Making adjustments to different photos with a common background
Hello,
I have nearly 100 photos that I need to adjust for a directory. All the photos were taken with the same camera with the same lighting. Is there an easy way I can select a color in the background to make adjustments so they all look the same? Doesn't have to be perfect just close.
I'm using CS6 on a MacBook Pro 10.8
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tom
If I am understanding you correctly, open a Hue/Saturation adjusment layer above the image layer; click on the hand icon, and then on the part of the image you want to change. Dragging the Hue slider will change that colour. If it also affects the portrait you are going to have to mask that part out in the layer mask.
The darkest of the three images above probably has no colour information in the chair back, so you'll need to take a different approach. Sample the colour you want from one of the other pictures. You need to set the eye dropper options to something like '11 by 11 average'. No go back to the dark image, and open a Hue/Saturaion layer, and make sure the left part of the layer icon has the white outline, and NOT the layer mask. You can tell if you have it right because the foreground and background colours will be black and white if you have it wrong. Now click on Colorize, and the jobs half done.
Now you need to mask the Hue'Sat layer to the chair back. Quick select and refine edge would be the way to do that, and fill the rest of the layer mask with black.

Different photos with the same file name!! How to change this?
While I was organizing my photos, I realized there are about 30 or so photos that have the same exact file name as another photo. Example: There are two IMG_1243.jpg, but they are different pictures. They were taken at different times, even different years. I have used more than one camera to import photos. I have changed the name of one of the photos in the Title area in the information section of iPhoto. When I try to put the newly named photo into a folder that has the other IMG_1243, I get a message that says" An older item named "IMG_1243" already exists. Do you want to replace it with the newer one you are moving?"
I want to have both IMG_1243.jpg photos in the same folder. How can I do this? Also, I have a few thousand pictures, so how can I tell exactly how many photos have the same file name as another photo?Celtic Mom

It sounds like you are using the finder inside the iPhoto library - do not do that - you will corrupt your library and lose the edits, keywords, etc that you have
iPhoto does not care about duplicate file names - it handles it fine
changing the title of a photo does not affect the file name - although when you export the photo you can use the title for the file name as an option
What are you doing and what do you want to accomplish?
Remember do not ever make any changes in the iPhoto library using the finder or any other program

Aperture 3 freezing up after making adjustments.
Endless(30-45 minutes)loading/processing after making adjustments to a photo. 'Quit Aperture' was not an available option so I 'Force Quit.' When I reopened the App, it was still doing the same thing. Next, I tried 'Force Quit' AND shut down my system. When I started it up again and reopened the App, still no change. That is about all I know to do; yep, sad but true. Any advice? I sure would appreciate it!
I think this sounds like a problem I had with a corrupted image. Corrupted images happened to me when my iMac was turned off inadvertly when importing pics.
You can read on my blog how I resolved my issue. Hope it helps.

Copying photos with categories
Hi
I have all my photos in Starter Edition 3.2 divided by categories. I now want to transfer my pictures onto another computer which also has Starter Edition 3.2 and maintain my categories. Is this possible and, if so, how?
ThanksSame Terrible Problem !
Different photos with "duplicate file names". My iphone is naming the pictues with random numering (not in sequence) when saving them to a folder, the result is
that if I say "YES" to replacing duplicate photos (same filenames), different pictures will be overwritten since they have the SAME file names.
The programmers of the iPhone should know better... I lost alot of pictures before I noticed the flaw.
Anybody know how to avoid this. The only fix is to save them to a different folder every time with the risk of pictures being overwritten if they are every moved. -
\What Causes Different Photo Sizes?
I have iphoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424).
My photos have vastly different file sizes. This is surprising since I am using the same camera. When I checked the info button, I noticed that the ones with more bytes have a bigger size. For example, a photo with 936 KBs shows a size of 1536 X 2048. Another one with 1.2 MBs shows the same size as the previous one - 1536 x 2048, even though it has more bytes. (Shouldn't these two fotos have different sizes since they have a much different number of bytes?)
But another photo which is 4.8 MBs, much more bytes than the previous two, shows a far bigger size of 4320 x 3240, about double the size of the previous two.
I'm not intentionally changing the size of photos. As a matter of fact, I don't even know how to do it. So what is causing different photos with the same camera to have different sizes? (I checked day photos versus night fotos but there was no pattern that would explain it).Two different things
Pixel dimensions do not relate to JPEG file size due to the JPEG compression. If you were working with uncompressed photos like TIFF it would
The differences in pixel dimensions is set by the camera. Your camera (what ever it is) has multiple user set photo dimensions

Can't get photo with transparent background to show up that way
I'm quite new to PSE (using ver. 6) so thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
I have a photo, and have made the background transparent, and saved it as a GIF file. When opened, it shows up with the checkered background. Good so far.
When I drag this photo from the Project Bin at the bottom (where I still see the checkerd background) into the image I'm working on, it shows up with a solid gray background once dropped into that image. So in essence, the background is no longer transparent.
How do I add this photo with the transparent background to the image I'm working on without a background / frame showing up? I've combed the internet and can't find an answer, and searching this forum, still coming up empty. I think the problem has to do with dragging it from the project bin. How else can I get it into the image I'm working on?
Thanks!
KevinIn PSE 6, dragging up from the project bin creates a special kind of passthrough layer. Copy/paste, or drag it down from the gif's image window into the other file in the project bin instead.

Is there any way to copy a photo with Lightroom adjustments without making a separate copy?
I do most of my printing from lightroom. I generally set up my image the way I want it for printing on photo paper, and then I make other copies and adjustments for printing on things like Canvas, coffee cups, tiles, etc.
The problem I have is I set up templates in photoshop, say for a coffee cup, which will have the correct dimensions, perhaps some text, etc. To get to the lightroom photo with the lightroom adjustments I have to "edit a copy with lightroom adjustments" in photoshop, then copy and paste the image to the template in photoshop. Now I have another copy of the image on my harddrive and in lightroom. So after I copy the image in photoshop, I close it go back to lightroom and delete the copy I just made. Besides the extra fragging on the harddrive this creates, I know I am setting myself to delete the wrong photo by accident through repetition, and it is extra work.
How can get a copy of a photo with Lightroom adjustments to the clipboard without making another physical copy of the photo?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Godspeed,
BruceI may not be the best resource for tiles and cups, I've just started printing to them. Basically I'm doing them using an epson printer with dye sublimation inks printing on transfer paper and then doing the transfer at 400 degrees with a press. I wanted to be able to do my own to get the cost down, and wanted to be able to make it actually usable, (dishwasher safe, etc) so this is the best route I've found. I had to get a new printer, 2 presses, a bulk ink system, and the supplies to print on so it is a pretty hefty up front expense. It can be done cheaper though using a mug wrap heated in an oven (not your cooking oven though). I worked with the folks at Conde to get set up, and they seem pretty good. But I'm still early in the learning curve, so I would be able to tell you a lot more in 6 months.

Equalizing photos with similar content but different exposures
PSE7
Greetings,
I asked this in the Elements forum with no resoultion. If it can be done I may have to go out and buy the full photoshop.
Background:
I have a group of photos that are very similar. They are posed graduation photos where the camera and background do not move. Only the subject , who wear very similar robes, changes. The exposure of my D-70 with a bounced flash wound up being eratic with some good subject expressions being captured under existing light conditions and dramatically underexposed because the flash didn't fire (took the pixs too fast and the flash didn't recharge fast enough).
The question:
Is there a way in photoshop to take a group of very similar photos that vary in exposure, color tone, etc.,
then select one master photo from the group that has the exposure, color tone, etc. that I want,
and then batch process all the photographs so that all of the photos are changed to match the exposure, color tone, etc. of the master photo I picked???
Another way of saying it, How do I make the common background of each photos above identical in one step (or as few as I can)???
Thanks..don't know about Elements but in Photoshop i suppose that you could maybe use Image->Adjustments->Match Color in an action but it's a fake so don't expect miracles from it. Another way would be to just open them all in Camera Raw and apply the Auto setting to them but that won't correct the images based on a base image

I wonder if another provider would really be much different? Read some of the other carrier forums - seems to be the same story everywhere.
I'm not disagreeing with you - I've found that I am usually more informed about Verizon policies and procedures than some of the reps in our local store. -
I have many photos with file extension of .PDD and that Photo Deluxe 4 no longer will operate in Win 7. How can I open? Next in Elements 11, how do I load and print different pictures and different sizes options on the same page?
Thanks,

How do I save photos that have been synced to my Ipad2, so that they do not get deleted when I sync with a different photo foder on my computer (Pc win7).
Place that first folder of photos that you synced to the iPad within the main folder of photos that you sync from and select them to sync again. You can place any number of subfolders within the main folder that you sync from and select those folders to sync. Just "tick"(select) the folders in the photos tab in iTunes.

I have photos with the same numer but they are different photos how can I fix that?
I have photos with same names but they are different photos. Can I rename these photos ? How can I do this?
you can save a file with the same name by dragging and dropping from iphoto to a Finder folder
but (and there are always buts) you can only do up to 4 photos at a time
any more and you are not given the option
This is the error message you get:
An item named “IMG_8770.JPG” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you’re moving?
4 or lesss your options are:
Keep Both Stop Replace
5 or more your options change
Skip Stop Replace
it will add a space and a 2 to the name
IMG_8816.JPG turns to IMG_8816 2.JPG
this is the solution I was looking for; let the computer do the name change

Working with different photo libraries
I have a work and home computer so therefore I have different libraries with different pictures (and music) I want to sync. Whenever I sync with one computer or the other it changes not only my music but also my photo libraries.
Is there a way to solve for this? If not is there a way to transfer current photos from the iphone to computer #2 (as opposed to #1) desktop or iphoto library (i.e. a one way transfer of files?)
Thank you.one thing that might help out.
The iphone will only sync music, video, podcasts, apps and photos from one computer at a time.
If you try to sync those items with another computer or library, itunes will want to replace what is already on the iphone.
You might want to use a thumb or flash drive to transfer your picture files.
Or, if you have both computers in the same location, you could transfer via a network.
If you wnat to transfer your music library, this article might help out.

Making adjustments with referenced images
my master files are located on an external HD . when it is offline, i can't make any adjustments. when it is connected, i can make adjustments and aperture creates a version out of the master file. i also use Nik Software (such as Silver Efex Pro) to make adjustments. when i save changes, the version is saved to aperture library ?? or should i click on the version and relocate it on the external HD? If I don't relocate it after making adjustments, then is it gone after i quit using aperture ??? please advise..

Yes, that's exactly how it works. You can't make adjustments unless the original file is online and available.

I'm not sure what you expect to happen but Aperture will never edit the Original file. The point of Aperture is that the original is always preserved.
Remember what you have on that external is simply file storage. If you want to acess a photo then you do so via Aperture.
