Making curves or waves

When I try to make waves or curves in Illustrator 2014, I am trying the pencil tool and the joining tool and nothing is happening on my art board, what am I doing wrong? Is there a certain tutorial I need to watch?

Can you show a screenshot?

  • Problems making audiotapes to .wav in SoundBlaster Live 5.1

    I have done it several times with vinyls, but after I have moved I cannot make the setup.
    I have put my taperecorder on the tape 2 on the amplifier (I have sound)
    I have the line out (light green) from the card to the aux (I have sound)
    I have the line in (light blue) from the tape 1 on the amplifier (I have no sound or signal nor using Audiograpper)
    Can Anyone help me please. Maybe I miss a spidery somewhere. Is it possible that I blew the line, missconnecting?
    Should I use wavestudio, recorder or what? Should I use the microphone line instead.

    Now the time has come to make it work with my recordplayer, so I can get my vinyl into the pc. A new problem has occured:
    The direct cable from the recordplayer to the soundcard gives a low signal, it's not equalized anywhere. What am I doing wrong now?
    When I have the .wav in the wavestudio it's pretty low. Is it possible to pump it up inside the pc, maybe in Cool Edit Pro or something?
    When you connect a record player directly into sound card --> you miss the RIAA "equalization fix" and preamplification! --> low recording level and wrong EQ.
    You connect your record palyer normally into your Hi-Fi system.
    If you connected your PC sound card through say "Tape 1" or "Tape 2" I/O (input/output) into your Hi-Fi system --> you can use your pc as a recorder directly (like it's just another cassette deck --> you can record vinyls with PC just the way you do when you record vinyls normally with your cassette deck).
    If the signal level is still week
    --> route your "line-out from casette deck" into "sound card line-in" and from "sound card line-out" to "amplifier tape 1 playback". You need now set the casette deck into recording state (set rec levels too) so the signal can go through the deck into the sound card.

  • How to save as AI file in same location with all text curves?

    Hi Guys,
    I am also looking for a script. Here are the details....
    I do have lot of AI files (from different paths), which are completly work  done. So I just need to make them (all files) a copy with all text  curves in the same path should create folder name called 'LC'.
    From  the given path all the files should save as to 'LC' folder. ('LC'  folder needs to create at the same location and original file should  stay as it was, so no changes in original/source file)
    While  making curves we must remember that layers contains lock. So have to  unlock all the layer and make curves and lock them back.
    While save as the all files in the file names should add '_LC' at last. For example: file name is 'xyzxyz.ai'. It should come 'xyzxyz_LC.ai'
    FYI: Using Adobe CS4...
    if you help me that would be really grateful...
    Thanks in advance..
    Kind Regards
    HARI

    Hello Hari,
    maybe this could be a startingpoint for you:
    var lb="\n";
    function writeNtimes(max){
         // read about namespace and visibility
         var string2 = "Read the F. Manual!";
         for(i=0;i<max;i++){
              //about loops
              alert(string2);

    var aString = "Hello HARI";
    alert(aString);
    var gotIt = false;

    var string2="RTFM!";
    while(gotIt==false){

  • Multiple channels displayed in curves

    Is it possible to simultaneously diplay multiple channels side-by-side with their respective curves and histograms when making curves adjustments?  --Not just simply overlaid upon each other in a single grid.

    No. I'm not even sure what that would be good for other than gobbling up tons of screen space, since it really doesn't tell you anything. It's one of the less endearing features in som color correction tools. Anyway, you have two redundant sets of keyboard shortcurts for switching channels inside such panels, and I'm sure that this allows switching fast enough to get whatever adjustments you need done just as quickly.

  • Build Fails for Alsaplayer in ABS

    Hi all,
    I couldn't get alsaplayer to run in GUI mode, but I found this thread that had the answer: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=42168.  So I followed the ABS wiki's directions for setting up ABS and I tried to run for alsaplayer (with the one line change in the PKGBUILD) , but the build fails after configuring.  Here's the full console output:
    aclocal.m4:14: error: this file was generated for autoconf 2.61.
    You have another version of autoconf. If you want to use that,
    you should regenerate the build system entirely.

    I figure it's those 2 errors in the middle of make that are holding it up, but I don't have a clue how to fix it.
    thanks,

    If you know how to write a patch or feel like learning, put one together, file a bug report, and submit the patch with it. If you don't feel like writing a patch, just submit a bug report that says that app/ContolSocket.cpp needs "include <climits>" to build. Either way is good.

  • Multi - cam editing

    When choosing camera angles in the multi-camera monitor you have to hit play first. Some instructions tell you to hit the record button instead. what is the difference?

    But does the play button fix this issue Instead of using the record button to make your camera angle changes?
    Yes, you don't want to get DMH79 started with this. However, he's not banned, but he did rant in a thread he created and that caused us to lock that post. Then he started a new post on the very same topic, so we locked that one too. He's very passionate about multicamera, and if you are too, I'd make the same suggestion: create a feature request: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
    Basically, you have to tap the 0 key (Record On/Off toggle) if you do not want Premiere Pro to create a new cut back to CAM 1 when pressing the Space Bar (Play/Stop). To me, it's not a huge deal. I'm already used to it (me, a former FCP instructor and on the FCP team at Apple).
    That's how our multicamera monitor works right now, and is just different than FCP. I'm fairly certain the workflow won't be changed between now and our next version, so make your request now.
    I can confirm that the toggle works in OS X 10.6, OS X 10.7, and OS X 10.8, so I find it a bit odd that some have reported that with certain versions of OS X, the Record On/Off toggle doesn't work. If the "0" key won't toggle for you, please make a bug report: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
    Hi Kevin!
    You are great as always. Sincerely. And thank you for your attention and help. And I promise not to get "started" on this again
    You said: "Basically, you have to tap the 0 key (Record On/Off toggle) if you do not want Premiere Pro to create a new cut back to CAM 1 when pressing the Space Bar (Play/Stop)."
    That is correct. However, toggling off the record actually is the culprit of the extra/unintended cut and angle change. If it wasn't, I would definitely adapt and work with that. But wherever you toggle off the record is where the infamous unintended cut/angle change is made. I thought maybe it was just me but I had someone test on a PC and it did it there too. I promise not to rant. This is just new information that I felt makes the answer to that thread inaccurate. Yes, technically that "answer" makes it so the stop and pause don't cause the cuts/angle change. BUT wherever you previously toggled off the record you'll have that cut/angle change so there's no way around the issue. With no way around, it can't be called a workaround.
    I guess you could call ExactImage's solution above the only "workaround" and just never use the live switching feature. Bummer.
    Knowing its not gonna be fixed anytime soon is good to know but sad to hear. Thanks Kevin for that info.
    Cosmosnarf, please fill out a "bug"...er, I mean "feature request" (cough, cough) as suggested to have the record toggle not make cuts when stopping.

  • 2 Effects I am having troble with doing

    If someone can please help me with that.

    If someone can please help me with that.
    What do you expect us to do?  Watch the tutorial for you, or something?  Use the Vulcan Mind Meld to identify where you went wrong?
    C'mon, dude, get a grip, willya?  Just watch the tutorial a few times and figure it out.
    I also need to know how to do this effect.
    Uh-huh.  First, a question: how long have you been using After Effects?  How do you count your time actually using the application?  Years?  Months?  Weeks?  Days?  Hours?  It'll tell us the direction in which we should point you for maximum benefit.

  • Wait or sleep?

    Hi,
    I am at University doing Java. My new assignment is multithreading in a Windows Application.
    So,
    I have created 2 threads (one with just a string and the other making a sound (wav file)).
    My problem now is ...
    I want the window to open first, then for the words to show up on the window, AND THEN the sound. Now I want the sound to be done in 3 consecutive times.
    In other words:
    1st: fT
    2nd: s1T
    3rd: s2T
    4th: s3T
    Basically here is what I did:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class WindowsAppli extends Frame {
        TextArea outArea = new TextArea("Incoming call ...\n");
         T1 firstT = new T1();
         T2 second1T = new T2();
        T2 second2T = new T2();
        T2 second3T = new T2();
            public WindowsAppli ()
           add(outArea);
           setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.CENTER, 10, 15));
           Thread fT = new Thread(firstT);
           fT.start();
           try
              Thread.currentThread().sleep(10000);
           catch (InterruptedException e)
          outArea.append(firstT.res);
          Thread s1T = new Thread(second1T);
          Thread s2T = new Thread(second2T);
          Thread s3T = new Thread(second3T);
          s1T.start();
          s2T.start();
          s3T.start();
        public static void main(String[] args)
            Frame f = new WindowsAppli();
             f.setTitle("Windows Application");
              f.setSize(600,400);
              f.setVisible(true);
             f.addWindowListener (new WindowAdapter ()
                public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e)
                     System.exit(0);
    }Any help please?

    If you want to wait for some even to occur, use wait, and a corresponding notifyAll(), or the higher level scheduling tools in java.util.concurrent.
    If you want to pause for a fixed amount of time, use sleep, although if you're doing that in a loop, you may want java.util.Timer and TimerTask.

  • Why is "color" not available as a key frame tween choice?

    There are choices for position, scale, skew, rotation and all. One of the most common things I do is tween alpha for fade ins and outs. Why is this choice greyed out?
    Of course I know I can just select all, but then what's the point in listing all the properties separately for tweens?

    I think you can simplify the new tween a bit.
    For (2) in new motion tween, you can set where you want the last keyframe to be, just like you do with classic tweens - it doesn't need to extend to the end of the entire animation. Create the static span of frames first, then apply the motion tween. This should shorten some steps for sure.
    For (3) you do not need to go to the motion editor and then go back to the Property inspector - you can apply Alpha just like you would with classic tweens using the Property inspector (and this can even be more efficient than classic tweens, depending on your animation and how you're creating keyframes, since you only need to apply it once). You don't need to flip between Motion Editor and PI as in your steps.
    Step (4) is unnecessary - just change the alpha in the PI (or Motion Editor if you happen to be there). It automatically inserts the keyframe for you.
    But it actually sounds like you might be doing a fade in and fade out. This would have fewer steps for new tweens, because you just create a single tween span, move the playhead and change Alpha in the PI (auto-creating keyframes), and you're done. And an added benefit if you need to retime it, because you can then stretch this span to modify the length without ruining any keyframes.
    Perhaps (7) I could help with a bit more so you can avoid splitting the motion so much. Sounds like you are easing between keyframes and splitting the span to do so? There are two options for easing the alpha: you can just change the curves in the Motion Editor, or you can use a custom ease. The easiest one would be making curves in the motion editor (and this is probably much quicker than using the Ease setting for classic tweens). Select your tween, and find the Alpha property in the Motion Editor. Now you just need to modify the curve in that property to control the animation, which essentally eases the animation (ie: if you have a beginning, middle and end keyframe to fade from 0 to 100 and back to 0, right click all three and choose "smooth point" - the default might be what you're after).
    Perhaps not the case here, but for what it's worth, when you are easing between keyframes for position (spatial properties) you probably want to use a custom ease. I have some steps here: http://flashthusiast.com/2008/11/20/flash-cs4-how-to-ease-between-keyframes-using-new-moti on-tweens/. (We are working at improving this workflow in general for easing between keyframes).
    Does that help?  I can elaborate wherever needed

  • Program stops working when making a wav file

    I've created a slide show and want to burn a DVD.  When I try to save a the slide show as a wav. file to export it to Premiere, Elements stops working about 80 percent into the transfer.  Any hints?  Anyone had this problem?  Thanks.
    Alternatively, any way around making a wav. file if I want to show the slideshow?  I've created it on my desktop computer, but could transfer it to a laptop.

    Well, when stuff stops working it means that something happened that made it go haywire so what did you install/configure/do before this happened? have you installed some photoshop plugins? updated some drivers? installed some new software?
    Another (far fetched) possibility would be that your anti-virus program is up to no good after an auto update so try temporarily deactivating it, maybe that will solve it.
    Or if it's as Chris says, a problem with the printer driver, try uninstalling the driver completely, not just disable it or maybe go to Control Panel->Printers, right click on Adobe PDF(or some other "printer" from the list) and select "Set As Default Printer"

  • Making Audio wave forms larger in FCP

    Hiya,
    I was just wondering if anyone knows a way of making audio wave forms in the timeline in larger or smaller? (without adjusting the size of the audio track itself).
    Like you can in Avid by hitting ctrl-L / ctrl-k
    I'm editing with some soft audio, where it would be helpful to be able to see the waveforms a bit more closely. I was told modify/audio/normalise might adjust the waveform inside the audio track, but it doesn't seem to...
    Cheers and thanks
    L

    AH....that must be a feature of the newer MC and Adrenaline software, which I have little experience with. All these new features and nothing to say "hey, this is a GREAT new feature." And fellow editors don't let you know unless you ask "hey, how did you get your timeline to look like that?"
    This is why I like the FCP community. As soon as we find something, we shout out "HEY, LOOK AT THIS COOL THING!"
    Even FCP goes "Hey, look at this cool thing!" Avid? New features, and they are quiet about it. Avid doesn't tell people about new stuff.

  • Audition 5.5 - Help with .wav files for phone system - making a hold message PC & Mcc

    Hello everyone,
         I am really frustrated trying to create a .wav file for our phone system and I was hoping someone might have some suggestions as I am new to using Adobe Audition. Our phone system will only accept .wav files for our hold messages but the tricky part is that is can only be a maxiimum streaming bit rate of 64 kbps. Everything we've created under 256 kbps becomes in-audible and I'm really not sure what to do as the current messages sound fantastic. Our current hold message is 35 seconds long and we have another one we are about to do which will be 2 minutes long (uuuugh).
    - I've tried first converting the .wav file to an .mp3, lowering the bit rate to 64 kbps, then converting back to .wav but the bit rate goes up to almost 1500 kbps after re-converting.
    - I've tried making the track mono, reducing the sample rate to 22k but the size ends up being somewhere between 512 and 768. If I lower the sample rate much further and convert to 8bit, the audio sounds terrible.
    - I've also tried using Adobe Media Encoder, Audacity, Hand Brake, OS X Automator and a few other programs all with the same results.
    - I've tried re-recording the audio on a handheld .mp3 recorder hoping the initial quality would be less (originally recorded on a PC through Audition with a external mic).
    Unfortuantely, the person who used to do these conversions is no longer with the company, never documented the process and all I know is that they used to do this on a Mac. Also, the software that uplaods the files is a Linux based which is out of my area of expertise so I'm not able to tinker with it to make any headway.
    ** Any sort of suggestion would be greatly aprpeciated as I really don't know much about audio. I've been working on this for 2 weeks now and this is really driving me crazy. **

    Eugh! Converting to MP3 is absolutely not the thing to do!

    Okay, in reverse order: I know it sounds daft, but actually you want to start with the best recording you can possibly have. You are going to have to reduce its bit rate, but if you reduce a crap signal's bit rate, it inevitably ends up worse than reducing a good signal's one; when you think about that for a moment, it's going to make sense (I hope...).
    As for what you need to do - well it's going to have to be a mono file anyway (you haven't got a stereo telephone system), and that will immediately halve the streaming rate, but the other thing you need to bear in mind is that telephones have a limitited bandwidth, and that your sample rate, even at 22k, is going to give you more bandwidth than the system has. If you can reduce it to 8k, it will work fine. This will still give you an upper frequency limit of 4kHz, and that's more than adequate for telephone speech, believe it or not...
    The other thing, and this is where I think you may be running into trouble, is that 8 bit streaming is pretty much the norm here. All it does is to increase the noise floor, so that the signal to noise ratio is about 48dB instead of the 96dB it would be with a 16-bit signal. But, to get this to work to your advantage, you have to optimise the audio you are using in the first place. Chances are that you need to compress your recording so that it has a relatively limited dynamic range before reducing it to 8-bit, and then you'll be fine. This is better anyway for telephone systems - there's far less chance of bits of the message being missed because they're too quiet. Also, you don't want massive great peaks in the recording - these just reduce the maximum overall level for the majority of the message sound. So, you need to apply a limiter to get rid of them, leaving the majority of the speech sounding just as good, only louder. All of this you can easily do in Audition - don't need any other software at all.
    So, my guess is that the previous maker of your messages knew exactly what he was doing. Yes, he could have documented the basic steps, but he couldn't have been absolutely specific about it because no two recordings are the same. I'll attempt to explain the basic steps in English, but how well you will be able to follow this, I'm not sure...
    The basic process I'd go through with the recordings is firstly to normalize them to 0dB, then look at how far down most of the 'green' parts are - this is the bulk of the signal, and where all of the meaning is. Then, you apply a limiter to this so that those green parts don't have peaks sticking out of them. Then, if you need to, normalize again so that the green part moves to the upper part of the waveform space (towards where 0dB is). Then, if you need to, apply compression to the signal so that the level of it sounds about the same all through the message.
    Now, when you reduce your signal to mono, 8k, and 8-bit, pretty much everything about the original signal will still be there. That should stream 8-bit words at 8k, making 64k streaming for a single mono channel. This will work fine, but only if you optimise the signal first - otherwise no chance!

  • Making a Bell Curve in Numbers or MS Office for MAC: I already have mean and standard deviation

    I hope my question is a simple one with a simple answer: I have the results of a mid-term and the professor gave us the mean and standard deviation of the results of the exam from which he based our grades. I am a visual person and (to be honest) without having to put forth a lot of effort, I would like to see visually where I fall on this, admittedly, artificial curve. I have both Numbers and MS Office on my MacBook Pro. Is there an easy way to create a bell curve using these numbers? It seems like there should be since those are usually the only numbers needed. I just, honestly, don't want to do the tedious work myself.

    Statistical functions including several which deal with normal distribution, are discussed in Chapter 10, Statistical Functions, of the iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide. This useful guide may be downloaded via the Help menu in Numbers '09. Go to chapter 10, or for a direct route, search 'normal distribution'
    For what it's worth, you can find the formula  for calculating the coordinates for the bell curve here: The-Normal-Distribution-Or-Bell-Curve
