Making PDF Files Viewable In Other Languages

I have a fairly large PDF file, about 150 pages written in English that I'l like to make available in Spanish, Italian, German, etc.  Is there an easy way to do this?
Thanks!

One would think this would be integrated within Acrobat?  Isn't that kind of "within the meaning of the application itself"?  It does install multiple languages.
No. Acrobat is mainly an aplication to create PDF files. Not do translations. I think you may have misunderstood the whole "install multiple languages" thing. That's so people can view PDF's in other languages. Not so they can translate them.

Even if the translation was not 100% perfect I would think there's an easy way to do this as I've seen so many miniscule software apps (which don't generate much revnue) available in a zillion languages.  I'm sure these people aren't hiring translators.
I am responcible for a lot of translations (sending them out to be done, not doing them myself). If you aren't looking for something that is 100% correct then, the applications "may" do an ok job. But they don't take regional dialects in to account at all.
Try one of those applications. Translate something from say English to Spanish. Then translate it back and see what you get. Usually it's a mess.
Again, if you aren't worried about accuracy and have no reason to worry about offending someone, go for it. We had someone try and use an app once (without our knowledge) to translate something to Spanish. One of the phrases that they came up with basically called anyone with HIV "dirty people".

  • Help - "Acrobat is being used by another application and cannot open PDF files until the other application is closed."

    Hello,
I searched this site and google for this error terminology and come up dry.  I support a user who has been for years using Acrobat 5 (yes, I know...) to read files in a client DB program, as well as other PDF files on their PC.  In the last week or so, they have started gatting this error "Acrobat is being used by another application and cannot open PDF files until the other application is closed." any time they attempt to open a PDF file attached to an email (via Outlook).
It is my understanding that they cannot upgrade to a newer version of Acrobat because of limitations of their client software, but had not previously had any issues viewing PDF notes from the DB, and PDF attachments in their email.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, as well as tried using Adobe Reader 7 & 9 in conjunction with Acrobat to try to get around this issue, but have not been successful.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jesse

I don't have an answer to your technical problem. The product I assume is Acrobat that you are talking about (based on the post title), Adobe is the company name. This is a good place to ask questions on Acrobat if folks can figure out what you are talking about. They will ask for the product version number (like AA9.3.3), operating system, and other applications if appropriate. Also, just what you are doing that generates the message.
As for Adobe, you are not likely to get an answer from them here in the user forum. You will be lucky if you can get an answer if you can contact them and not be on hold for more than an hour (sorry, this is why a lot of folks end up in the forum).
So, to help others try to answer your question, what are the products and versions involved? What OS? What are you doing when the message comes up.

  • How to find PDF files that have other documents bundeled within them?

    Hello guys
I need help with the following: we have a huge number of PDF files that have other documents imbedded (bundled, attached) in them. If such a document is open in Acrobat, bundled files show up as attachments on the left. Some of those attachements are .mdi files. This is Microsoft Document Images files. Is there a way to flag PDF's that have those .mdi files in them? I need to find them and convert to PDF. If I need to be more descriptive please ask, and thank you in advance for help.

Preflight is a complex plugin, it's hard to explain how to use it in one forum post. You need to read the documentation carefully.
There's no pre-built profile for what you want, so you would first create a new Custom Check that compares the MIME type string of embedded files to what you're searching for (not the file extension but the full MIME identifier, which for Office files is a very long string). You would then place that new Custom Check into a new Profile, identifying it as an error condition. Once you've saved the Profile you can run it against a number of files and specify actions to be taken for pass and fail conditions, such as changing the filename or moving to a subfolder.

  • Unable to convert PDF files to any other file format using Acrobat XI Pro

    Acrobat XI Pro ver11.0.2
    Office 2013 Pro Plus
    Windows 8 Pro
When I open a PDF file and try to export file to: Word, RTF, Excel, XML or PowerPoint, I woud receive the error below.
Save As failed to process this document. No file was created.
I recall in the past that I was able to export PDF to Excel & Word.  I simply tried the other file formats to see what happens.
Unfortunately for me, this is happening to both of my machines.  Same version software except the other machine is Windows 7 Pro. I have admin level rights to both PCs.
Not sure what to do at this point.
As another test, I did the following.
Created a document in Word, then saved as a PDF file.  Opened that PDF file to save as a Word doc and I received the error listed above.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thank you

    Thank you for the suggestions
"Created a document in Word, then saved as a PDF file.  Opened that PDF file to save as a Word doc and I received the error listed above".
I used another machine.  Created a Virtual Machine with Office 2013 and Acobat XI and I do not have issues with converting PDF to any of the available formats.  Its not the file I'm using, its the software itself that is the issue.
Unfortunately, I did uninstall Office 2013 & Acrobat XI then reinstalled but I still have the problem so I can only guess once its broken in the registry, I will continue to have an issue.
For now, I'm going to move Acrobat XI on the VM since I dont have time to reinstall Windows 8.

  • Why can I highlight some pdf files and not others

Why can I highlight some pdf files and not others

Highlighting only works on text documents; a scanned document (image) cannot be highlighted.

  • Preview will combine some pdf files, but not others, what gives?

After years of PC loyalty, I switched to a MacBook Pro four years ago and found heaven. Most of that time I've blissfully worked my arse off at my office on a powerful, simple, wonder of a machine/OS. However, the latest update to my Preview app seems intent on ruining one of my favorite programs. Often I take a pdf file (a cover sheet) and add technical data pages to the pdf by combining other pdf files (drag and drop). This used to work seamlessly without hitches. After the latest update however, I cannot add certain files without an act of congress! Some files stubbornly refuse to combine, in which case I must duplicate the host file, or the files being added (often several times), saving and removing versions before it magically works! Granted, I'm no wiz and I'm quite sure I'm overlooking a simple step that will clear this confusion. Can anyone help? The lovely cash vampires at Apple refuse without payment. Thanks in advance.

I'm in the process of transferring my iTunes from Windows 7 to my Mac to sync with my new iPhone 5s. I used an external harddrive to transfer iTunes, and almost everything worked smoothly.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
However, there is one album that's giving me trouble. About 2/3rds of the songs from the album refuse to be transferred into iTunes, and I have no idea why. All the songs in the album are the same format (.wma) and all of them could be read in iTunes on my Windows 7 system
They could be added to iTunes but iTunes converts them as iTunes cannot play WMA files (as Brett mentioned).
You can first add them to iTunes on your Windows computer, which will convert them to AAC & then copy the converted files to the new computer.

  • Pdf files viewable in ibooks but not in adobe reader?

I can open and view pdf files in ibooks but i downloaded adobe reader and they arent even showing up. The file is a text book and is too big to email myself. any suggestions?

Adobe recommends against have different versions of the same application installed at the same time. They also discourage having Reader and Acorbat installed at the same time. I would install version 6 and repair or reinstall version 9.

  • Making .pdf files downloadable

How do I make .pdf files downloadable in my iWeb page?
I have several .pdf files on my desktop that I'd like to make available to visitors to my iWebsite for download. Please forgive me if this is "intuitively obvious." I am new to the forum and am also navigationally clumsy until I use it a while.

You either need to Zip or Compress, as it is in 10.5 and then in iWeb click on Inspector and then Hyperlink and just create a hyperlink to a file. One someone clicks the link, it will then be downloaded as a Zip file containing the pdf.

  • Safari (Snow Leopard) will not link to website (pdf) files from within other pdf files

Meeting agendas (in pdf format) have 'web links' to other pdf files, but Safari says not enough info in the webaddress.  But it works O.K. in Windows Explorer.

    Open browser preferences
ex Safari>Preferences>Extentions   and un-enable any ext that mabe interferring , ex divX
or open Help> installed Plug-ins and remove Adobe Acrobat.
    if still a problem
    Quit Safari.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
A Finder window will open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open.
Launch Safari and test. Its settings will have reverted to what they were they first time you launched it. If it works as expected, recreate the settings and delete the item you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put the file you moved back where it was, overwriting the newer one created in its place.

  • Making PDF File Sizes Smaller

Is there a way to make the size of pdf files to be a smaller file size. The file sizes that you get from the print menu are too big. I know about altering the image size with the Automator script in PDF services, but this doesn't get them small enough. Is there another way without having to get a third party app like Acrobat, PDF Compress, or PDF Shrink? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Barry

It does work, but not all that well.
Sample file size (photo, lo rez) in Photoshop Elements 3: 124K
    OSX created pdf: 484 K
OSX with "reduce file size": 156K
    OS9 file from Acrobat: 40K
Anybody know how to cut more fat out of these files, or am I going to have to go back to OS9 every time I want a reasonable file size?

  • LSMW: error when import source file which contains other language character

When I use LSMW to import master data,
    on the step,"Specify Files",there are
two choice for code page,"ASCII" "IBM DOC",
but neither of them can work correctly,
    both cause chaotic code.
    for example "#ãb####բ##"

    Hi Colin!
I'm working with English and Cyrillic input files. As long as I don't use English file for the Russian application, all works well.
I figured out two important points:
    - Log-in in 'target' language. This has to set locale and language defaults -> LSMW will asume correct codepage (when your system has correct default settings).
    - Save your text file with correct codepage. With MS Word or MS Excel I haven't seen detailed options, but with OpenOffice  you can set codepage when saving files with '*.csv'-filter.

The jar file is created but it has 0 bytes in it. No data is written into it, despite all the files being there.
    Thank You

That is not the way to create jar files. Here is how you do it.
Under say c:\ create directory "utils".
Copy all of the *.java" files which will be part of this jar file "utils.jar". After moving files into c:\utils , make sure every single file has the first line of code as "package utils;" (without the quotes though)
Type in "javac *.java" to compile all of the files at once.
cd over to the parent directory and then type in
    jar cvf utils.jar c:\utils\*.class
This will create utils.jar file under c:\
