Making Projects/Photos avail. on-line: Best Practices?

Hi. I am ready to move some of my work on-line, and am looking for both general and specific suggestions on services to use and guidelines to follow. My photos are all in Aperture Libraries, fairly well organized.
I realize this is a big topic. The things I think are important to me are:
- good looking presentation (for me: simple, clean, puts the photos first and gets out of the way)
- works seamlessly with Aperture (publish as photos? as Albums? as Web Pages?)
- inexpensive
- v. easy to navigate
Thanks in advance.

For our studio we use a Photoshelter standard account, we also manage image libraries for a couple of clients and use the photoshelter site for them as well.

  • Responsive projects autosizing for multiple devices -- best practices?

While it's a nice idea to have the three different breakpoints on width that allow you to make some major layout changes, I'm having trouble making this work well across multiple devices.  With the high resolutions of current mobile devices, this model just doesn't seem to work well.  For example, the iPad 2 in landscape mode select the desktop layout, which isn't bad, but in portrait mode gets the tablet layout, which by default is set up to be landscape.  I changed the heights for both breakpoints to better fit the iPad, but then the iPhone in landscape gets the tablet layout, requiring a lot of scrolling.
Given the wide range of resolutions on mobile devices, it's not at all clear how this a simplistic mechanism like this could ever work.  For one thing, it sure seems like you need to provide for both portrait and landscape layouts on tablets and phones, with Captivate using both width and height to select the best one.  Also, is there any way to tell it to fill the screen without scrolling? How about automatically leaving the area clear where there's a status bar (or telling it to hide the status bar)?
I could just create a separate version of the project for each device, but then lose much of the value of creating a Responsive Project in the first place.  Have those of you with more experience found good ways to deal with these variables, or is the best option to just create separate versions of the project?

  • Keeping same Events and Projects on 2 external HD - Best Practice

I would like to receive your suggestions on this working flow. (I am also interested to get some confirmation that I am doing the right way).
I use FCPX since few weeks. Coming from iMovie and FCE.
I import videos from external drive "C" on 2 different external drive "A" and "B" with settings to copy the files there.
In this way I hope orignals remain on "C"
I edit using "A" or "B" and the resulting Projects remain on the same drive.
I copy Events and Projects between "A" and "C" to keep them uptodate after some work. I do all copy with FCPX with both drives connected.
Will this workflow let me to keep Events on both drives according the latest editing ? (If I reopen each project on the same drive of its events A with A and B with B).
Then I like to group projects under folders (move not copy) again working only inside FCPX.   This removes the project form the Project folder and let me to save a new version of the next editing workflow with the same project name. But if I try to save the same project again it will be renamed with extension (fcp1).
This way will bring me to a serie of projects instead of replace the previous with a new version. I would prefer to limit this to a few versions: any way ?
Last: I like to keep also a copy of projects on the main HD. Only Projects with its Render files without Events.
Will it be possible to use this Projects moving them to one of the 2 HD "A" or "B" and go on ?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello Zebber28.
I do exactly as you propose doing in terms of having a 500GB Western Digital elements portable external HD which I simply connect up every three months or so on a top up basis.   I don't disconnect the primary external HD while I do this as I don't need to.   I simply plug into the port in the keyboard.
Just make sure you properly eject the new HD each time you use it, otherwise it's all pretty basic.

  • Best practice for image inserts

I am planning to create new webhelp topics and edit existing
topics in my project. Is it the best practice to place graphics
files in the same folder as the HTML input files?

I personally have always avoided the use of folders, maybe
because most of my projects were large merged projects, which
already contain multiple project "folders." Also, renaming/deleting
these beasties later on can be a bear, as evidenced by many
    angst-ridden threads in this forum.
Let RH place them in its own "virtual" Images folder and
leave it at that. Unless...do you feel lucky?
By the way, best practice (at least mine) is to name
everything (projects, topics, graphics) with no spaces, very brief,
and possibly with 2- to 3-character prefixes to more easily
identify them (possibly application features, for example). Such
as: sa_user_cfg.gif for a screenshot of the User Configuration
    window for System Administration.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Best Practice - HCM service

    Hi,
The ESS latest package was uploaded initially into the portal. This package consists of mostly the Webdynpro iviews.
Later it was decided to use the Best practice, so it is uploaded. Now all the services provided in the Best practice is available in one common folder, except for the ESS. The iviews available in this Best practice are mostly the transaction iviews.
My query is that, why the HCM (ESS) services are not there under the best practice folder? Is it due to the already uploaded ESS package? What should i do to avail the HCM services of the best practice?
It's urgent. plz help. All useful answers will be rewarded.

Thanks Bharathwaj for the reply. Here is the link.

  • Large ADF Applications - Best Practice

    Hi
We have a single ADF project (one model, one view/controller) with the following model components:
    68 AMs
    387 VOs
    175 EOs
This project is ever expanding, and we are suffering some well-known performance problems when open JDeveloper or open the view/controller project.
Are there any best-practice guidelines on how to structure your ADF projects?
e.g. what is the maximum recommended number of AMs/VOs/EOs in a single project?
We have kept everything in a single project after some advice from Oracle to help us to re-use common modules easily.
We use JDeveloper v10.1.3 and use JHeadstart v10.1.3 SU 1 to generate our view/controller layer, using multiple faces-config files.
    Thanks
    Denis

    Hi Denis,
We have exactly the same problem in expanding our application but we have a single AM and less EOs, VOs than you right now. There are some threads discussing this issue but I haven't found a complete and standard solution yet. The only thing I know is that almost every thing can be segmented in ADF like projects, application module, faces-config.xml, ...
Another thing which is very important is that segmenting an application is a tradeoff, it has some advantaes but problems in SCM, security, ...

  • EFashion sample Universes and best practices?

    Hi experts,
Do you all think that the eFashion sample Universe was developed based on the best practices of Universe design? Below is one of my questions/problems:
Universe is designed to hide technical details and answer all valid business questions (queries/reports). For non-sense questions, it will show 'incompatible' etc. In the eFashion sample, I tried to compose a query to answer "for a period of time, e.g. from 2008.5 to 2008.9, in each week for each product (article), it's MSRP (sales price) and sold_price and margin and quantity_sold and promotion_flag". I grabed the Product.SKUnumber, week from Time period, Unit Price MSRP from Product, Sold at (unit price) from Product, Promotions.promotion, Margin and Quantity sold from Measures into the Query Panel. It gives me 'incompatible' error message when I try to run it. I think the whole sample (from database data model to Universe schema structure/joins...) is flawed. In the Product_promotion_facts table, it seems that if a promotion lasts for more than one week, the weekid will be the starting week and duration will indicate how long it lasts. In this design, to answer "what promotions run in what weeks" will not be easy because you need to join the Product_promotion_facts with Time dimention using "time.weekid between p_prom.weekid and p_prom.weekid+duration" assuming weekid is in sequence, instead of simple "time.weekid=p_prom.weekid".  The weekid joins between Shop_fact and product_promotion_facts and Calendar_year_lookup are very confusing because one is about "the week the sales happened" and the other "the week the promotion started". No tools can smart enough to resolve this ambitious automatically. Then the shortcut join between shop_facts and product_promotion_facts. it's based on the articleid alone. obviously the two have to be joined on both article and time (using between/and, not the simple weekid=weekid in this design), otherwise the join doesn't make sense (a sale of one article on one day joins to all the promotions to this article of all time?).
    What do you think?
    thanks.
    Edward

You seem to have the idea that finding out whether a project uses "best practices" is the same as finding out whether a car is blue. Or perhaps you think there is a standards board somewhere which reviews projects for the use of "best practices".
Well, it isn't like that. The most cynical viewpoint is that "best practices" is simply an advertising slogan used by IT consultants to make them appear competent to their prospective clients. But basically it's a value judgement. For example using Hibernate may be a good thing to do in many projects, but there are projects where it would not be a good thing to do. So you can't just say that using Hibernate is a "best practice".
However it's always a good idea to keep your source code in a repository (CVS, Subversion, git, etc.) so I think most people would call that a "best practice". And you could talk about software development techniques, but "best practice" for a team of three is very different from "best practice" for a team of 250.
So you aren't going to get a one-paragraph description of what features you should stick in your project to qualify as "best practices". And you aren't going to get a checklist off the web whereby you can rate yourself for "best practices" either. Or if you do, you'll find that the "best practice" involves buying something from the people who provided the checklist.

  • Services-config best practices for ADEP

I need to establish a services-config.xml to connect to LCDS from my ADEP project.  Are there any best practices I should be aware of with respect to ADEP / LCDS interaction in this regard?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi Mike. You can use the CRXDE Lite editor to modify the services-config.xml file for a Data Services application deployed to the Experience Server.
When you are in CRXDE Lite, navigate to:
    /etc/aep/config/dataservices/services-config.xml
Open the services-config.xml, make your changes, and click the Save All button.
After that, when you create a new "Flex for ADEP Experience Services" project in Flash Builder, the channelset-config information will be copied from the services-config.xml file into a channelset-config.xml file that gets added to the dataservices directory of your Flex project and is also added to the mxmlc compiler options for your project.

  • Collection caching - best practices

    Hi all
I have a list of rows in a db that are ultimately added to a html <select>
    field
This select field is on every page of my site
My client calls a method in a SLSB which
    - calls a finder method
    - is returned a collection of read only EJB local interfaces
    - copies the contents of the local interfaces into plain java beans
    - returns a collection of plain java beans to the client
Other than making my ejb read-only, what best practices should i consider so
that i can minimise the amount of work that is involved each time i want to
    build this <select> field?
Specifically, I was wondering what best practices people are implementing to
cache collections of information in an EJB environment. I would like to
minimize the amount of hand rolled caching code i have if possible.

  • Best Practice for Using Static Data in PDPs or Project Plan

    Hi There,
I want to make custom reports using PDPs & Project Plan data.
What is the Best Practice for using "Static/Random Data" (which is not available in MS Project 2013 columns) in PDPs & MS Project 2013?
Should I add that data in Custom Field (in MS Project 2013) or make PDPs?
    Thanks,
    EPM Consultant
    Noman Sohail

    Hi Dale,
I have a Project Level custom field "Supervisor Name" that is used for Project Information.
For the purpose of viewing that "Project Level custom field Data" in
Project views , I have made Task Level custom field
    "SupName" and used Formula:
    [SupName] = [Supervisor Name]
That shows Supervisor Name in Schedule.aspx
    ============
Question: I want that Project Level custom field "Supervisor Name" in
    My Work views (Tasks.aspx).
The field is enabled in Task.aspx BUT Data is not present / blank column.
How can I get the data in "My Work views" ?

  • What are project management best practices?

I created a test project in Premiere Elements 12, and saved it in a directory named "Michaels Posters".   Then I archived the project to this directory and it created a "Copied_My\ new\ video\ project1" directory with all of the media files.  Then I added a video clip to the project, archived it again, and it created the "Copied_My\ new\ video\ project1_001" folder below.
My first real project will be a video highlights video of my 4 years old for 2013.  This will involve editing the same project several nights a week, for maybe a couple of months.  This would result in numerous "Copied_My\ new\ video\ project1_NNN" directories being created, assuming I archive the project each night.
So what is the best practices for managing a larger project like this, and avoid using a lot of disk space for the same project?
    Michaels\ Posters/
    ├── Adobe\ Premiere\ Elements\ Preview\ Files
    │   └── My\ new\ video\ project1.PRV
    ├── Copied_My\ new\ video\ project1
    │   ├── Adobe\ Premiere\ Elements\ Preview\ Files
    │   ├── Encoded\ Files
    │   └── Layouts
    ├── Copied_My\ new\ video\ project1_001
    │   └── Adobe\ Premiere\ Elements\ Preview\ Files
    ├── Encoded\ Files
    │   └── My\ new\ video\ project1.prel
    ├── Layouts
    └── Media\ Cache\ Files

I do work with the LAST archived project file, which contains ALL necessary resources to edit the video.  But then if I add video clips to the project, these newly added clips are NOT in the archived project, so I archive it again.
The more I think about it, the more I like this workflow.  One disadvantage as you said is duplicate videos and resource files.  But a couple of advantages I like are:
    1. You can revert to a previous version if there are any issues with a newer version, e.g., project corruption.
    2. You can open the archived project ANYWHERE, and all video and resource files are available.
In terms of a larger project containing dozens of individual clips like my upcoming 2013 video highlights video of my 4  year old, I'll delete older archived projects as I go, and save maybe a couple of previous archived projects, in case I want to revert to these projects.
If you are familiar with the lack of project management iMovie, then you will know why I am elated to be using Premiere Elements 12, and being able to manage projects at all!
Thanks again for your help, I'm looking forward to starting my next video project.

  • Best practice for moving images between projects?

    Hey all,
I have a project that has an album inside of it. I want to move the album, containing all of the photographs to a new project. If I drag the photos individually to the new project it moves them successfully although they now don't belong to an album in their new project. If I drag the album itself it moves the album and photographs but leaves the photos in the original project as well.
Does anyone have some best practice ideas for this scenario?
Thanks in advance for any help!

As you have discovered if the drop target is the project the images move projects. If the drop target is an album the images show up in the album but do not actually move anywhere. Moving albums does nothing to move masters. So...
Select all of the images in the album. Drag them to the new project and then drag the album to the new project. Simple enough.
