Managing apps on 2 appleID accounts with 1 iTunes.

My gf and I both have an iphone 5.  I have a laptop.  She doesn't.  Can someone explain to me the logic of downloading/syncing apps on our devices?  I've noticed that I can download an app while logged into my account on itunes, and I can sync that app to her phone.  It will sync apps to her phone regardless of which appleID i'm signed into in itunes, but it seems that if I sync it while logged into my account that will cause issues on her phone where she can't download apps thru the iphone app store.  So i'm under the impression that we have to logout/login on itunes according to which phone we are syncing with.  Is that true?  If so, why I am even given the option to sync to her phone with apps that i downloaded under my appleID?
I also realize i could create a whole new user on my laptop, but that creates problems for syncing music and photos that we both want to have on our phones.  So I think one user is necessary.  Just trying to understand the logic of logging in and out in this situation.

This is because your siging into your account then your GF phone is then syning to that account. This will happen, yhou have the auto sync turned on. Just turn it off and it will then prevent her phone from syning to your account.
edit preference, click on the phone icon and then check do not allow auto syning of iphone ipad.
On your GF phone go to setting itunes, check the account it's signed into. If need sign out and sign in with the correct account.
So if we both synced all of those apps to all of our phones, are you saying that when it asks for an update, we will both end up having to enter her password and my password according to who was logged in in itunes when it downloaded.
Correct becasue they are in since linked, even thoug you have 2 different apple id's with the down loads. if you want to update the app that was downloaded with the different apple id you will then have to put in that password. For that account.
The best way to fix it, is to delet the app and download it from the itunes store from her phone, again make sure the account is sigined in on the phone under setting itunes.
This makes me think i should go back and delete all apps from her phone that I downloaded when logged in as me.
That is the best thing you can do as I stated.
These apps will always show up, you can try to delet them from the summary page in itunes, click on apps, but the most it will do is allow you to hide  them. Its been awhile since I have messed with that.
One thing to also do is make sure to name your phone, setting general about.
Then when you do have the phone plugged in you will see it over in the left side uder devices. Also make sure who's apple id is signed in on itunes, on the computer.

How do you pay for your icloud account with an itunes card ?

I don't have a credit card on file because I don't want my kids using it or accidentally using it.  I always buy itunes cards for this reason.  I refuse to put a credit card on file for this reason. I hope Apple thinks about this and puts this in consideration.  I don't understand why I can't put a itunes card on file just like a credit card?

  • HT2737 can i purchase app on my mac book with an itune card

I am trying to purchase an app on my mac book with an itunes card and having some trouble, is this possible?

You should be able to purchase content from iTunes, the iTunes app store, ibookstore and the Mac App Store with an iTunes card - I've purchased from all of them with cards.

  • We have one cloud account with 1 iTunes account but 2 phones. Can we keep out calendars and contacts separate

My wife and I both have iPhones and want to know if we can keep the same itunes account while keeping our contacts and calendars separate?

Yes.  Just set up separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs.  You can continue to share the same iTunes account ID; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for other services such as iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, etc.
You should also avoid using the same ID for FaceTime and iMessage or you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.  If you are, on one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID (such as the one you use for your iCloud account).  Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • Notes app not recognising mail account with notes (SL upgrade to ML)

I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion but all my notes disappeared. I researched this online and realised that now Notes is a separate app. I looked in it but the notes are not there.
I researched futher online and it appears that the email account setup in system preferences needs to have the notes box ticked. I checked this but there is not a note box against the email address. see screen capture below.
this is a POP mail account and presumably the account that all my notes are associated with.
I found the notes.mbox file in my SL backup and imported this into email so I have a copy of the notes but I can't edit any of them.
Any ideas - what I need to do to resolve this.
    thanks.

    I resolved this by
Deleting all copies of com.apple.notes apart from the help files.
    Repairing the disk permissions
switching on notes on my iphone and in mail accounts
    restarted macbook
    launched mail app
    launched notes app.
This brought in all my notes which are synced with my iphone.
This was a combination of several different solutions from different posts on this forum.

  • I can't update any of my apps because its having trouble with my iTunes account how do I fix this I have a valid credit card?

Someone please help me I got my IPad off of craigslist but brand new in the box.

Once you purchase or download an app it will always be associated with the Apple ID used to download it. When that app requires and update you must use the Apple ID and password used to download it in the first place. The only way around this is to delete the apps the require the old Apple ID and download or purchase them again with the new Apple ID.

  • HT1351 Is it possible to manage apps on a device from computer since iTunes was changed?

I am so lost since iTunes was redesigned! I like to manage my children's apps from the computer. We have multiple devices and I want different apps on each. I've lost this ability and I am floundering! We have too many apps to manage from individual devices. With my vision deficits, I find it easier to select and delete apps with the device connected and to move the apps to the page I want it on from a larger computer screen.
I used to be able to connect my device, sync it, and then go into a screen where I could manage the apps. No more! Why not? I get that the new design is all about the sale for Apple, but please don't take away functionality! Help!

After an hour of messing with this, I think I found my own answer.
The new iTunes automatically shrinks the left sidebar that has device information. It does not automatically tell us this. Control S returns the view to the familiar one.
For some reason,my device is not always appearing in the sidebar. This might be a problem with my USB port, again no idea why. I did see questions from other users experiencing the same problem. Once I did get the device to appear, I still did not have the ability to view the old screen that had a list of my loaded apps with a page by page view. The device info summary page was there, but the toolbar for the device was not visible.
I had to restore my iPod to its original settings and update before the old app screen and device toolbar returned.
I had been putting off the update because everytime I tried I got a message saying there were apps purchased on my iPod that needed to be uploaded or they would be lost with  the update. I would agree to upload them  but was never taken to a prompt to begin that process. Since I could not find a way to sync and the device specific settings were concealed I finally opted to update and lose the apps in order to solve the bigger problem. Hopefully, they are there somewhere.
Disappointed to see how many consumers are as lost as I am with the new iTunes appearance. Hope Apple is tracking these forum questions and thinking of us as clients and not just as wallets! Way too much emphasis on purchasing and not enough on user friendly accessibility in new iTunes. We're hooked, Apple. Try harder to keep us on the hook.

  • The newest version of iTunes is awful when it comes to Cloud syncing-file management. I'm constantly frustrated with what iTunes 'chooses to eliminate from my mobile device and settings aren't fine-grained enough to allow for real user control.

I'm endlessly frustrated with iTunes Cloud syncing, something that was supposed to make lenjoying my music easier. I routinely find that, though itunes and podcasts have been split, iTunes arbitrairily removes music files or in progress podcast in favor of 'new' podcasts. The settings are just not fine-grained enough to allow true user control and so we are instead subjected to 'Apple knows best' protocols. I understand and appreciate the level of exacting control Apple excercises over their ecosystem, however, more and more often I see them tightening control over things that should be user control while dropping the ball on aesthetic desisions made in producing their own software (see the hideous pull down tab for iTunes to access Podcast, TV shows, Music, etc.
I would like to see features like those in Mail and the Podcasting apps implemented in iTunes afor the management of content on mobile devices, for instance it would be great to swipe to delete files that you know longer want on your device, at both the album and song level. Another issues is the new pushiness of iRadio and iTunes Store, the app now seems to default to the iRadio page (versus the last page Albums, songs, etc. that the user was navigating, or in the instance of the iTunes Store push, if I doon't have all the tracks of an album i own on my mobile device 'complete my album' takes you to iTunes store rather than showing the 'cloud' download icon next to missing tracks. These are the tactics I expect from Google, not Apple (pushing commerce over quality user experience).
    Fix these things Apple, please.

  • Syncing student iPads (individual accounts) with home iTunes library

    Here's the situation:
Three (3) iPads, issued by our high school.
Synced (at school) via individual student accounts.
We want to sync music on all 3 iPads to the same iTunes library/account at home.  The school says this can be done, but provides no instructions on doing so.
I tested with one iPad, setting sync to "music only" (there is no music synced under the school account).  Even with "sync apps" unchecked, iTunes warned me that 50+ apps would be deleted if I synced under my Apple ID.
Everything I've read online says either "incredibly difficult" or "not really possible."  It seems to me that these "dual citizen" iPads are only going to be come more commonplace as schools adopt the iPad platform.  We REALLY need a clean solution for this environment.

    Jon,
You should be able to do what you want. However, keep in mind these caveats, by design, the iphone will sync itunes content with ONE computer at a time. Thus, if you start syncing such content to your wife's phone from your account if you decide to switch to her account, all itunes content on her phone will first be erased & then replaced with the content from her account. You can sync as many devices as you want to the same itunes account, there is no limit. So yes, you can sync itunes content from your account to your wife's phone.
First, disable auto sync, under preferences, in both your accounts.
What you would do is make sure that there are no checks in any boxes regarding itunes content under your wife's login...the only thing you'll be syncing under her login is contacts & calendars. When she connects her phone under your login, make sure there are no checks in any boxes regarding contacts or calendars, the only thing you'll be syncing is itunes content.
Since you can sync as many devices as you want to the same itunes account, itunes will keep everything straight by device. Thus, once you set things up, from that point on itunes will recognize what device is what & sync accordingly.

  • Is there another way to get a free iCloud account with an iTunes account

We are an educational institution and we have a 1-to-1 program with our 7th and 8th graders. This was started last year but recently we started to run into issues where the devices (that are recycled at the end of the year to go to the incomming 7th graders) will not allow us to create iTunes and iCloud accounts. I've discovered that I can create an iTunes account for free via appleid.apple.com but it does not create an iCloud account.
This is far from ideal for us as we need all of our students to have iCloud accounts as well and we do not have the money to keep buying new devices just so that we can have iCloud accounts for each student.
Does anyone know of a way to create free iCloud accounts? There must be a way and there must be other school districts with this problem that have solved this issue. This could taint our entire 1-to-1 program if not resolved. iCloud backups are how we handle replacements when the students break the device accidentally.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it's possible, but you might want to ask this question over in the iPad in Business and Education forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/ipad/ipad_in_business_and_education?view =discussions.  They may know the answer.

  • Best way to handle mobile accounts with large itunes/photo libraries

What is the best way to handle mobile accounts, but not syncing itunes/photos libraries?
I have a time capsule so I can move itunes and photos libraries for each user if need be.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I've done a great deal of work with mobile accounts in Snow Leopard and I'm now having a "play" with Lion. To be honest you have to sit down and think about why you need mobile accounts.
If your user only uses one computer then your safer having a local account backed up by a network Time Machine, this avoids the many many woes that the Servers FileSyncAgent brings to the table.
If your users are going to be accessing multiple computers on the network and leaving the network then a mobile account is good for providing a uniform user experience and access to files etc. However, your users will have to make a choice as to whether they want their iPhoto libraries on one Local machine (backed up by Time Machine) or whether they want their library to be hosted on the server and not part of the Mobile Home Sync schedule (adding ~/Pictures to the excluded items on the home sync settings).
With the latter, users will be able to access their iPhoto libraries on any computer when they are within the network (as it's accessed from the users server home folder).
With the first option the user would have their iPhoto library on one computer (say the laptop they used the most) but then would not be able to access it from other computers they log on to.
iPhoto libraries are a pain, and I'm working hard to come up with a workaround. If your users moved over to using Apeture then you could include the aperture library as part of the home sync thanks to Deeport (http://deepport.net/archives/os-x-portable-home-directories-and-syncing-flaw-wit h-bundles/)
He does suggest that the same would work with IPhoto libraries - but it doesn't for a number of mysterious reasons regarding how the OS recognizes thie iPhoto bundle (it does so differently compared to Apeture).
    Hope this helps...
