Managing PDF's in iTunes for iBooks is difficult.

Managing PDF's in iTunes for iBooks is difficult due to the names of the files I'm working with.  The PDF will have a burned-in name, yet I want to rename the files in Windows to make them easier to find (iBooks renames the files ON THE FLY when opening the PDF's from iBooks on the iPad2).  I also have several versions of the same PDF (First Edition (c) 2000, Second Edition (c) 2004, Third Edition (c) 2008, Fourth Edition (c) 2012, etc) and want to rename the files as such.  Is there a way to leverage iBooks in this scenario to better meet my needs?

I was originally using Stanza in IOS4 and it COMPLETELY met my needs, but it stopped working with the release of IOS5 which forced me to iBooks.  I believe that Stanza now works since they patched it.  The migration to iBooks consumed a whole day and I'm still VERY unhappy with how things turned out in iBooks.  I was hoping for an iBooks solution, so that I wouldn't have to redo everything all over again.  Ideally, I would like to get iBooks working, else will look into moving back to Stanza, Goodreader, Adobe Reader or an Android Tablet.

  • How to synch PDF books in iTunes with iBooks on iPhone

How to synch PDF books in iTunes with iBooks on iPhone?
I am running current apps on all (PC with windows 7)
When I sysnc my iphone the  PDF books in iTunes do not show up in the iBook library.
I see no place to configure the sync of books as some tutotials suggest.
    Thanks!

You've selected the iPhone on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 then you can enable the sidebar via control-S on a PC), and you've then selected the Books tab on the right-hand side of iTunes and selected those PDFs and clicked on sync/apply to try and copy them over to your phone ? And in the iBooks app on your phone you have 'PDF' selected on the button at the top middle of the bookshelf, not 'Books' ?

  • Itunes for ibook question

hey all im new to apple got a ibook g4 10.4.11 for free and use it to familarize myself comming from windows os and like it very much I have an Iphone 4s and that prompted the change just tring to hook itunes up to this setup and sync it is this doable or am i sol till i comit to mving forward! it will load pitures from phone but thats it !!
thanks in advance any help with this would be great !!!

An older Mac is not the best model to introduce yourself to Macs.  Like anything old it will need coddling and patience to use.  It will not work fast, you will have problems finding software and accessories for it.  It's like buying a 1960s car.  Great if you have the patience to work with it and you love hunting for parts and do not want to drive 75 mph on the freeway.  Not so great if you want efficient, relatively care-free transportation.  It's not so much a maintenance issue with the old computers but simply the world is moving beyond what they are capable of doing.
It also will not work well (if at all) with your iPhone.  Read very carefully the system requirements for the iPhone (printed in microscopic medium gray print on the side of a light gray box ).  If this is a brand new phone you may possibly absolutely need the newest iTunes version which will not run on the ibook.
Oh, I have a 10 year old computer with 10.4.11, a 32 year old car that does 65 mph maximum and I have to hunt acrosss the country for spare parts, a 103 year old house, and a 18 year old cat.  We have an iPhone4s which will not work with our computer but we don't use those features.  If that's you, go for it.

  • IOS 4 Pdf manual - too big for iBooks!!!

Thought the putting the manual in iBooks would be a good way to test drive new app. Well.... first you have to email the pdf (14 meg) and then it is too big to move into iBooks. Apple you can do better than this!!

OK. Now I see the details of your issue with iBooks.
Save the PDF file on your desktop or someplace where you can easily find it.
Open iTunes and connect the iPod Touch to it.
Now simply either drag it directly to the books on your iPod Touch or drag it to books on your iTunes and sync. This should put the document in on your iBooks app shelf. Be sure to click on the PDF tab in your app to display the PDF books.

  • Is it possible to read books downloaded for Ibook on my computer?

I am curious, is it possible to read books dowloaded via ITunes for IBooks in my MacBook Pro?
    Danny

Yes there is. Not by Apple yet but I have read the downloaded books (into iTunes library) using "caliber".
"calibre is a free and open source e-book library management application developed by users of e-books for users of e-books."
If necessary, you can also convert to another format (eg MOBI) so you can read on your Kindle or whatever...
    Cheers!

Well where is your library located now if not in the iTunes folder?  See the links below on what your iTunes folder should look like and put it back together:

  • PDF files for Ibooks

I received an email with a pdf file when I open the email on my ipad it is attached to the body of the email.  I want to save in ibooks but do not have the pdf file to forward to ibooks.  Can someone tell me how to get my email to save the pdf as an attachment?

    Hey Southernsmile,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you want to open a pdf in iBooks. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
iBooks: Viewing, syncing, saving, and printing PDFs on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    Opening PDFs with iBooks
You can open PDF documents, such as a PDF attached to an email, with iBooks:
When you view a PDF email attachment, tap the Share button in the upper-right corner.
Tap Open in iBooks to open the attachment. iBooks will open, and you can view your PDF.
When you use iBooks to open a PDF, iBooks will automatically save a copy of the PDF to your iBooks PDF shelf. These PDFs will sync to your iTunes Book library the next time you sync your device with iTunes.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a good one,
    Mario

  • Creating EPub for iBooks with PDF FIles

I have a pdf file of a magazine that I print every month and am looking at the best way of getting it into iBooks and ultimately the iTunes store for others to download and view on iPads.  I've tried a few things, but seem to be hitting a brick wall every time...
The pdf files are around 50 pages each, in A4 format.  I have tried using iBooks author but their format is different to this and I can't seem to get my A4 page size in there.  I realise now that IBA is more for digital publication and their layout differs from that of print.  But is there any way I can do this?
I have also been trying to use Pages to output my ePub file, which works to an extent.  I drag and drop my individual pdf pages into a new Pages word processing document, make sure thay are in-line and resize them to fit the page, which is A4.
I tried this with the first few pages, exported as ePub and imported via dropbox to my iPad 3.  It shows up in my iBooks library, opens up and I can see my pdf pages, but they are a lot smaller than the ipad screen, and I cannot navigate around the page by pinching and zooming.  When I try this, it selects the page "image" and highlights it in blue with the "copy, select, highlight" dialogue.
I have tried making the Pages document A3 size, resizing the pdfs in it to those dimensions and exporting the same, but in iBooks they are always a good third smaller than the size of the screen.
So is there any way I can get my A4 pdf files together as an iBook/ePub file that I can read in iBooks full screen?
    Thanks!

    hey pstretton
A program that may be of use to you is Calibre.  You can format your PDF document to pretty much any type of mobile reader output you like.  http://calibre-ebook.com/
When converting PDFs results can be mixed.
    I also recommend Sigil http://code.google.com/p/sigil/

Notes on Transferring OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks…
Most MP3 capable devices should play OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks.
If you intend to transfer OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks to an Apple® device, note the following…
iTunes® v9.0.2 (or newer) is required.
The Apple device must be formatted for use with Microsoft® Windows®.
The iTunes setting 'Manually manage music…' must be enabled for the device before you can complete the transfer. Adjust this setting in iTunes as follows…
Connect the iPod® to your computer.
If it does not launch automatically, open iTunes v9.0.2 (or newer).
In iTunes, locate the device in the left vertical navigation panel (under heading 'DEVICES'), and click the device.
    The 'Summary' screen is displayed.
Place a checkmark next to 'Manually manage music…'.
    Click the 'Apply' button.
The iTunes 'Summary' screen refreshes, and the changes are saved.
    If desired, close iTunes.
Note that if an Apple device is connected to your computer, you can choose to simultaneously transfer a title to the iTunes Library and the Apple device. If you wish to only transfer a title to the iTunes Library, you must first disconnect the Apple device

  • How to prevent iTunes for Windows from "Updating iTunes Library"? (Library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes for Mac. Now getting update wars between Mac and Windows versions of the player.

How to prevent iTunes for Windows from "Updating iTunes Library"?
My library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes on a Mac. I can connect from wife's Windows laptop using iTunes for Windows but every time I do, it Updates iTunes Library. Next time I log in from my Mac it Updates iTunes Library in return. It appears I'm experiencing "Update Wars" between the Mac and Windows versions of iTunes. I would like to allow my wife to stream iTunes songs to her new laptop but I don't want any updates from this source... prefer to manage the library from my Mac and not allow Windows to do any thing other than listen to existing playlists.
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Connect the PC to the library on the NAS. Wait while "updated".
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the media folder is correctly pointed at the media folder on the NAS. If not correct, close iTunes, wait a few moments, then open iTunes again.
Close iTunes on the PC. Do not open iTunes on the Mac.
Copy the library files, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork into an empty iTunes folder on the PC, for example C:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down SHIFT. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the copied .itl file, e.g. C:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
The library should now work properly on the PC, however check the setting for the media folder. If needs be correct, close iTunes and reopen.
Open iTunes on the Mac. It will update again, but that should be last time.

  • I recently purchased a book from itunes on my ipad 2 but when i open the book in ibooks i get (incorrectly formatted or not formatted for ibooks) somebody please help

I am currently deployed over seas.. I recently purchased a book that im pretty stoked about. but when i open it in ibooks i get ( incorrectly formatted or not formatted for ibooks to recognize) the file is an .epub so i dont see how it could be a format issue.. I tried emailing apple but because of the situation they want me to call. I have very limited telecomminications at my location .. somebody please help

The Report a Problem link can also be found in iTunes/Store/View Account/Purchase History.
Before asking for a refund, also try deleting the book and redownloading it.
If you find that the iBookstore is does not meet your needs, you can try one of the others like Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Googlebooks, or Sony.

I don't have a computer on which to convert a digital booklet in iTunes to a useable form for iBooks.  Why won't it download using the cloud like all the other media I purchase on my ipad?

LP content can only be downloaded on a computer's iTunes (or 1st gen Apple TV), you can't download them on an iOS device - and I haven't seen anything that say it will change in iOS 8. If you don't have a computer then at the moment you won't be able to download/view LP content
    About LP : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3823
After you buy an album with iTunes LP on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, the album's songs will download directly to the device. The iTunes LP will download to iTunes on your computer when you choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.

After digging and reading since I posted this question, I finally found the issue. My Cisco VPN client was set to stateful firewall (always on). When I turned off this setting, all machines worked for iTunes sharing. The Vista box was coincidentally working because the Cisco VPN client 4.6 didn't work on Vista.

  • HT201209 Can I use iTunes gift cards for iBooks?

Can I use iTunes gift cards for iBooks?  How?

Yes, I've used them to buy from the ibookstore, app store, iTunes and the Mac App Store. They can be used in the ibookstore in the iBooks app (or via your computer's iTunes) in the same way as you use your account's balance to buy music or apps - so you first need to redeem a gift card so that it gets added to your account, and you can then buy things from the stores with it.
