Mapi over HTTP issue

Hi all!
Hope somebody can help me out. In my test lab, where I`m experimenting with Exchange 2013 SP1 and Outlook 2013 SP1 I came across very annoying thing.
Let me explain a little bit more about config that worked.
Outlook 2013 connected to Exchange 2013 via RPC over HTTPS is working great actually really great. I have created my own certs and imported ROOT CA cert to all of my machines and things are working peachy. As part of my plans for 2014 I have to test and
deploy MAPI over HTTP sometime at the end of 2014 in our company (and migrate fromEX2007 but this is different story).
OK so I`ve enabled MAPI over HTTP on my test server and configured 5 virtual machines with different accounts to test things out. Started Outlooks, accepted "Your administrator has made change ....." prompts and here we go, I`m connected MAPI/HTTP
and all works really great.
Except for one thing. When it does connect, things are super fast and it works as it should. But sometimes it does not connect right away and it is sluggish in performance. Also Outlook is missing "Quick steps" menu, see attached image:
I restarted all servers, clients, clean Outlook install nothing helps.
When RPC/HTTPS I could quit and start Outlook 10 times and it worked 10/10 without problems.
When MAPI/HTTP I restart outlook and it works 6/10, so 4 times I get messed up Outlook and very poor performance.
Any idea where to start troubleshooting? Maybe Outlook has a bug or 2 with this mode?
Server is correctly sized and backed up by enough of memory and CPU, mailboxes have 100-3500 items in them.
Again, RPC/HTTPS works every time without any problem.
MAPI/HTTP works lets say 6 times without any prolem at all and really works great but 4 times out of 10 it makes me want to throw it away :)
If someone knows best way to troubleshoot this one, please let me know.

From your information, when Outlook hang on PC A, there was no problem to connect at the same time from computer B, so the client side related issue causing this problem is more likely. For
example, when Outlook was trying to connect to Exchange server, it fails due to the temporary Network issue, or it hang when loading something. As far as I know, it may also be caused by the local OST file. But it is difficult to do troubleshooting since there
could be many possible causes and more logs may be required to do troubleshooting.
Please try to run Outlook in safe mode by running "Outlook.exe /safe", see if we can reproduce this issue.

  • MAPI over HTTP not working correctly, Outlook 2013 clients prompting for credentials during profile creation or opening depending on security of virtual directory

    ENVIRONMENT
    -1 Exchange 2013 SP1 CU7 server with all roles that is also a hybrid server with Office 365 tenant, mailboxes are all on premise only LYNC online is being utilized right now.
    -Exchange 2013 public folders
    -Mix of Outlook 2013 SP1 and Outlook 2010 SP3 clients all fully update to day as of Feb 2015
    Outlook anywhere is working perfectly across all clients both internally and externally using autodiscover.  Both Outlook 2013 and 2010 clients can open the program and create a profile automatically via autodiscover and no additional logon prompts
    are seen.
    We set the internal and external mapi virtual directory URLs to a valid URL that also matches the Exchange 2013 SSL certificate.  We set the security to ntlm, negotiate on the mapi virtual directory.  We reset IIS and enabled mapi over http in
    the org config.  We run in to problems here.
    Outlook 2010 clients appear to be working fine.  We can create a new profile and open and close Outlook without any logon prompts and verify that MAPIHTTP and Negotiate are used to connect to Exchange.
    Outlook 2013 clients are having problems.  As soon as we try to create a profile it says your administrator has made a change that requires you to restart outlook and then a windows logon prompt appears. If we authenticate Outlook will open and connect.
      This logon prompt should not occur.    We can confirm that it is connecting via MAPI HTTP and Negotiate.
    If we set the mapi virtual directory to NTLM only then a logon prompt also appears during every open of Outlook 2013.  We can confirm that it is trying to connect with MAPIHTTP via NTLM in the outlook connection test screen.
    I do not understand this behavior by Outlook 2013 which was supposed to be designed with MAPI HTTP in mind.  I would think the same issues would occur with Outlook 2010 but they do not.  I am not sure how to resolve this and I am looking for help.

    I have the same problem. Exchange and Outlook are both up to date. After creating a new profile Outlook prompts for username/password. A lot of users also get this prompt while
    working - the profiles have been "migrated" from Exchange server 2010. <o:p></o:p>
    Niko, as i can see in your screenshot you do not have Mapi over HTTP enabled. Why? You can change settings in the security tab – if you have Mapi over
    HTTP enabled all options are grayed out (please correct me if I
    am wrong):
    This is a very annoying thing – does anybody else have the same problem?

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 - Unable to test Mapi-over-HTTP Outlook Connectivity

    I've configured MAPI over HTTP in my testing environment. It is working fine. But i'm unable to test this configuration using the Powershell Test-OutlookConnectivity CMDlet.
    Outlook is working fine and is using MAPI over HTTP, so i'm pretty sure there are no configuration problems. But the CMD-let gives me the following output:

    I got the same issue. The configuration is functional (Outlook connects over http). But the test-cmdlet raises this error. Is there any solution?

  • Troubleshooting for RPC over https (Outlook Anywhere) connection issue

    RPC over https (ROH), well known as Outlook Anywhere, is more frequently used. Even in Exchange 2013, Outlook no longer connects CAS server via MAPI.
    In this thread, we will discuss about the troubleshoot checklist about the RPC over https (Outlook Anywhere) connection issue. In order to make it more logical, I’d like to divide the whole troubleshooting to the following processes:
    1. Client side to CAS side
    2. CAS side to MBX side
    [Issues between Client side to CAS side]
    In Exchange 2013, Outlook Anywhere is enabled by default. Different from this, Outlook Anywhere in Exchange 2007 and 2010 need to be manually enabled. Thus, please firstly check if the RPC over HTTP component has been installed:
    Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    Double-click Programs and Features.
    In the left pane of Server Manager, click Features.
    In the right pane, click Add Features.
    Check if the RPC over HTTP component has been selected.
    If the ROH connectivity issue only happens on certain users, the property MAPIBlockOutlookRpcHTTP can be checked: 
    Get-CASMailbox  name | fl MAPIBlockOutlookRpcHttp
    2. Confirm if Exchange server is blocked. Ping the Exchange server FQDN on client machine and confirm if it can return the proper IP address.
    3. Check if the RPC Proxy server is responding correctly:
     rpcping -t ncacn_http -s ExchServer -o RpcProxy=RPCProxyServer -P "user,domain,*" -I "user,domain,*" -H 2 -u 10 -a connect -F 3 -v 3 -E -R none
    If 200 code returns, the test is successful.
    4. Check if Outlook Anywhere host names are added in the certificate:
    To get host names, the following command can be used: get-outlookanywhere |fl *hostname
    5. To use the Shell to test Outlook Anywhere connectivity, use the
    Test-OutlookConnectivity cmdlet.

    A. Check if it can connect to store’s port:

    C. Check the following registries:

    1).Open Regedit and navigate to:

    2).Set the PeriodicPollingMinutes value to 0.
    [Check the RpcProxy ValidPorts]
    1).On the RPC proxy server, start Registry Editor (Regedit).
    2). In the console tree, locate the following registry key:

    3). In the details pane, right-click the ValidPorts subkey, and then click Modify.
    4). In Edit String, in the Value data box, type the following information:

     Then it will return all active TCP connections and the process ID (PID) for each connection.
     After that, please check the application based on the PID on the Processes tab in Windows Task Manager and confirm if it’s Exchange server.
    Additionally, ExRCA is a perfect tool to test the whole connection between client side and Mailbox side:

    4. Accept the disclaimer, enter the verification code, and then select Verify.
    5. Select Perform Test.

    I've just restored the M11 to Windows XP with the disks provided and Outlook Anywhere connected without issue. As strange as it sounds, this looks to be isolated to this particular model of laptop and Windows 7.
    I've used the same Enterprise copy of Windows 7 and Office on a variety of laptops and pc's and none have come across this problem. The only commonality I can see is the hardware and OS.
    Aftery trying to troubleshoot this unsuccessfully with Microsoft tech support for a few hours, they eluded to the fact that this +could+ be a hardware related problem. (driver, adapter properties, etc)

  • HTTPS with Applet over Proxy Issue

    An applet using HttpURLConnection within a Java Applet. The Connection is formulated as follows:

    topologies, except one. The issue I am told occurs when we are trying to
    connect over https. For background, my understanding is this causes the Java Plug-in to :
    * invoke the http CONNECT command
    * wait for the 200 OK indicating that the secure tunnel is established
    * then send the request securely.
    Doing a packet trace shows that the headers set in the code are
    actually being included with the CONNECT. However the Java Plug
    (1.4.2_06) does not sent the body with the CONNECT. I am told this
    causes the proxy to wait for an entity that never arrives, because, on
    the other end, the plug-in is waiting for 200 OK. After 8 secs the
    plug-in resets the connection and fails.
    Packet traces on other proxies show the same content-length header being
    included, but they decide ignore it. From Googling I note some folks
    claim that this is expected, because CONNECT is non-entity enclosing.
    Doc's are scant on the CONNECT command. In some cases they seem to imply
    that no data should go with the CONNECT (making it non-entity
    enclosing), but later they state it supports data-pipelining, making the
    content-length relevant, as the CONNECT may well contain an entity.
    Moreover, is the intent of Applet Framework to insulate the programmer
    from having to worry about issues like this? For example this Applet can
    and does connect to a myriad of HTTP/1.1 or 1.0 server through a proxy
    or not; in the case of no proxy or non secure proxy, the content-length
    header is valid as the request goes out in one go with associated
    headers. So writing the code as above, does not seem to be inherently
    flawed, IMO. <-- And that is a question too :).
    I note there is an isProxy() method, but this can only be determined
    after connection (obviously) and parameters cannot be changed once the
    connection is made. So creating a dummy connection first is possible I
    suppose, but it seems a slippery slope to start coding for exceptions
    like this, unless absolutely necessary.
    On the face of it, it could be argued that this appears to be a bug in
    the plug-in but with very little hits in google I am doubtful. To that
    end, does anyone have any thoughts or experience with either working
    around the problem (it would seem to be a pity to have to have a setting
    per client), or whether in fact this proxy server is being too draconian
    in its interpretation.

    Pardon my ignorance about proxies, but how do you tell the plug-in that there is a proxy in between you and the destination?
    The reason I ask is because with the https protocol, the first thing that happens is that an SSL connection is set up between the endpoints, and only after, through this secure tunnel, is the GET request or whatever sent. The proxy never gets to see any of the HTTP headers.

  • Design Choices and is LiveCycle needed? best practices for using RTMP/AMF over HTTP/XML communicatio

    Hi,
    I am new to flex/RIA. I am exploring different design choices especially in client server communication. On client side we will be using Flash based RIA (using Actions scripts).
    There will be some simple forms (like for login, registration, payments etc) and some simple reports including with several graphs and charts. Each chart might have 1000 to 1500 data points etc. There are not video or audio content as such. On server side we have Servlets, java API and some EJBs to provide the business logic and real time prices/content (price update is usually every 10 seconds) /data. Some of the content will be static as well.
    I have following questions in my mind. Is it worth it to use RTMP/AMF channels for the followings?
    1. For simple forms processing (Mapping Actions scripts classes to Java classes). Like to display/retrieve/update data for/from registration forms.
    a. If yes, why? Am I going to be stuck with LCDS? Is it worth it? What could be the cons for heavy usage/traffic scenarios
    b. If not what are the alternates? Should I create the web services? Or only servlets are sufficient (ie. Only HTTP+Java based server side with no LCDS+RTMP+AMF)? All forms need to communicate on secure channel.
    2. For pushing the real time prices/content which we may need to update every 15 seconds on user interface using graphs and charts. Can I do it with some standard J2EE/JMS way with RIA (Flex) on front-end? i.e. Flash application will keep pulling data from some topic. Data can be updated after few secs or few minutes which cant be predicted.
    3. Are there any scalability issues for using RTMP? What happens if concurrent users increase 10 times within a year?
    4. What are the real advantages of using RTMP/AMF instead of simple HTTP/HTTPS probably using xml based objects
    5. Do I need to use LCDS if I am using AMF only on client side? Basically I mean if I am sending an object in form of xml from a servlet. Can some technology in Flash (probably AMF) in client side map it an Action script object?
    6. What are the primary advantages of using LCDS in a system? Is there any alternate solutions? Can I use some standard solutions for data push technologies?
    I would like that my server side implementation can be used by multiple types of clients e.g. RIA browser based, mobile based, third party software (any technology) etc.
    I appreciate if you can kindly refer me to some reading materials which can help me deciding the above. If this is not the right place to post this message then please do refer me to the place where I can post such questions.

    Let me see if I can help with some of your questions
    1. Yes, you can use LCDS for simple forms processing. Any time you want to
    move data between the Flex client and the server, LCDS (or its free Open
    source cousin BlazeDS) is going to help. I would expect you would use the
    mx:RemoteObject MXML tag to invoke server side code, passing it the form
    data input by the application user.
    2. If you need to push near real-time data, LCDS gives you the RTMP channel
    which can scale quite nicely. You can then use the mx:Consumer MXML tag to
    subscribe the clients to the messages, which can come from almost anywhere,
    include JMS topics or queues.
    3. RTMP (included in LCDS) is the best option for scaling to tens of
    thousands of users and the LCDS servers can be clustered to proved better
    scaling.
    4. The AMF3 protocol used over the RTMP channels performs much faster than
    simple XML over HTTP. See this blog posting for some tests:

    5. If you are sending a Flex application XML, then I would recommend using
    the E4X API to work with the XML. This is a pretty nice and powerful way to
    work with XML. If you want Actionscript objects (and probably better
    performance), then using AMF serialization to Actionscript objects is the
    way to go.
    6. Primary advantages? There are many, but mainly you can avoid thinking
    about the plumbing and concentrate on solving your application and business
    logic problems.

    MapViewer works over HTTPS with some minor configuration changes. First, you may need to tell MapViewer to return generated map image URLS in the form of "https://...", which is done in the config file mapViewerConfig.xml through the <save_images_at> element.
    From the error message it does seem to indicate maybe the JavaScript API (oraclemaps.js) is being loaded from "http://" while the web page itself is accessed via "https://" and browser thinks they are two different domains. Maybe you can change how the JS library is loaded in your page and see if that fixes the issue?

  • RPC over HTTP trouble Exchange 2013/2007 coexistence, 2013 RPCProxy cannot ping GC.

    I currently have an Exchange 2013/2007 coexistence scenario which gives me trouble with the RPC over HTTP part with users with a 2007 mailbox. the MS RCA website performs 2 tests with the MAPI address book endpoints, once against a 2007 mailbox server and
    once a against a GC/DC, the last one fails. The logs are from our test domain, but the exact same happens in the production domain. running CU8 (recently upgraded, but problem was exactly the same with CU7)

    the error suggests the name could not be resolved. but nslookup works fine. i can ping the tdc01421 correctly form texch31, it returns me the ipv4 address. i can telnet to port 6004 from texch31 server to tdc01421 giving me the correct 'ncacn_http' answer..
    i look at the 'ValidPorts' and ValidPorts_Autoconfig_Exchange reg keys and filled them with the same i have on the 2007cas servers (all ex servers, all dc/gc's, all of them with netbios & fqdn ports 6001,6002 & 6004..) but also no success.
    im out of ideas by now..

    content of these two folders, i.e. “V15\ClientAccess\Owa\prem\15.0.995.31” and “V15\ClientAccess\Owa\prem\15.0.995.29” should be identical, now if for any reason, they are not then it can break the OWA experience like described above. Take these steps if you
    run into related issues:
    -Backup the contents of “15.0.995.31” folder to a different folder/directory
    -Copy the files and folders from “15.0.995.29” to “15.0.995.31” folder – this should fix the issue …

    We are running a httplistner on localhost exposing http based end point. can we call this url from a website which is exposed over https when it opens from the same machine.
    Note: the site is being opened in browser is using HTTPS and is on SSL.

    I'm integrating some biometric solutions on Sun Access Manager. But the biometrics vendor only provides windows ocx's and DLL's. And Access Manager is running in a Solaris box.
    I want to know if I can do something by myself or just tell the biometrics vendor that they must provide a Java solution.
    I have been trying to find something on the web, but I asked this forum because maybe someone has tried to do something similar.The suggestion by jschell is probably your most promising option.

    What I made wrong:
    https://localhost leads to the apache page
    https://localhost/owncloud leads to the owncloud page.
    (Just as an information if there are other apache noobs like me...)

  • Ftp over http authentication

    Hi,
    we have problem opening FTP sites that require authentication.
    When I try to open a ftp site, example ftp://site.com, I get this message in the browser :
    Authentication is required by the FTP server ( ftpserver.com ). A valid user ID and password must be entered when prompted.
    In some cases, the FTP server may limit the number of anonymous connections. If you usually connect to this server as an anonymous user, please try again later.
    But I didn't receive authentication prompt at all
    I think we didn't have issues with the previous versions...

    Are you using IE by chance?  If yes, try accessing the FTP server using a different browser.  IE has a known issue that such that it doesn't prompt end users to enter FTP server credentials when the user goes through any proxy (not just the WSA).  We just decided to add this to the WSA release notes as a "known issue" with the different workarounds listed. You'll see it in the next version of the 7.5 release notes when that comes out someday.  Here's what the bug write-up will say:
    Defect ID 5463
    Users cannot access FTP servers that require server authentication using FTP over HTTP with Internet Explorer. This is a known issue with Internet Explorer when communicating with web proxies. This is due to Internet Explorer never prompting users to enter the server authentication credentials.
    Workaround: To access FTP servers that require server authentication, use one of the following workarounds:
    Use a different browser, such as FireFox or Chrome, to access the FTP server.
    Use an FTP client that uses native FTP to access the FTP server.
    If users must use Internet Explorer, they can prepend the username and password into the URL. For example: ftp://USERNAME:[email protected]@ftp.example.com

  • ACNS 5.5 / Troubleshooting bad quality VIDEO (MMS-over-http)

    For an unexplanable reason I have to deal with an ACNS problem which is not my domain at all ! ACNS 5.5.15 is on a WAE-512-K9 working with CDM.
    Please can someone advice me on how to start the basic troubleshooting steps on the following issue :
    ============================
    - Users in Sydney are complaining of bad quality when they watch a video from an Intranet server in Frankfurt.
    Video flow has bad quality (buffering ..) and/or stops before the end of the video.
    - Users browsers are configured to use the WAE as local proxy on ports 3129 (.pac file). Requested Video on the intranet is in the Windows Media format and flows are MMS-over-http.
    - No multicast distribution is used, neither content pre-positioning.

    We did a wireshark trace on the user PC watching a video which ends up unexpectidely with error code 500 => We follow the TCP stream, Time/Sequence graph is linear until ACNS sent [PSH,ACK] tcp flags to the user PC. Then PC answers with [FIN, ACK] etc...and the stream ends.
    I have checked the show-tech (i have attached some commands from the sh tech)  especially TCP statistics but I do not if the values are normal or not.
    I am thinkink to open a TAC case but before contacting Cisco I prefer to try some basic tests if they can help.
    Any recommendation on how to start a troubleshoot or any advice would be gretly appreciated.

    Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried changing and resetting the bandwidth limits at both ends last week at both ends but no joy!
    I am going to try the solution on the Gerry's link above later but have to wait for my brother to be free as he has an airport as well(had a baby yesterday (hence why we are setting this up)).

  • InitialContext lookup over HTTP using a full PROVIDER_URL (including path)

    Hi,
    We have a standalone Java JMS client application that is sending messages to a queue on a WebLogic (WLS 9.2 MP3) server. It uses the WLInitialContextFactory (WebLogic implementation of InitialContextFactory) class to look up the initial context over HTTP when making the connection to send messages to the queue.
    This all works fine when the client connects directly to the server - i.e. supplies the address of the server as the PROVIDER_URL. However, in our infrastructure, we cannot connect directly from this client to the server; we need to go via a HTTP proxy.
    In a basic configuration HTTP proxy we set the provider URL to be the address of the proxy server, with the proxy is configured to route all requests straight through to the WebLogic server. This configuration also works fine - the JMS client can send messages successfully.
    Unfortunately, this basic proxy configuration is still not sufficient for our Production environment. Our production proxy "fronts" multiple servers, each one identified by the first portion of the URL. So, the proxy is be configured such that requests to "http://proxy/server1/test_request" will be routed on to "http://server1/test_request", whereas a request to "http://proxy/server2/test_request" will be routed to "http://server2/test_request". This configuration works fine for basic HTTP requests, to webpages etc.
    However, when we try we use this mechanism with our JMS client over HTTP, it is not working. We set the provider URL on the client to "http://proxy/server1" in order to send a message to server1. However, we find that the WLInitialContextFactory class seems to be ignoring the final part of the URL ("server1") and still sending requests directly to the root proxy address of "http://proxy", so it doesn't work.
    I appreciate that this can be viewed as a WebLogic specific implementation issue for their WLInitialContextFactory, and I've raised a query with their support people on this. From my own research however, it seems the behaviour of their factory is not different to most other implementations - i.e. the major implementations would all have this issue.
    I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any implementations that would handle the situation I've described. If not (or otherwise!) is there something crazy about our approach that noone has catered for it?! It seems a reasonable situation to me, but maybe I'm missing something!
    Any comments, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    Thanks for the quick response. Would you mind providing a bit more detail on your suggestion, as am not 100% sure I understand it fully.
    If I see what you are getting at, are you talking about configuring proxy settings on my client side, similar to how I have to configure my internet browser with proxy settings when accessing the internet from within my companys LAN?
    If I'm interpreting that right, then I guess my use of the word proxy might be a bit inaccurate or lead to some confusion. What my orginal post described as a proxy should have been more accurately describes as a reverse proxy (acting primarily as a load balancer).
    Ideally, other than changing the URL slightly, the client should be 'unaware' that it is going through a proxy at all.
    Hope that clarifies somewhat, any further comments would be great! Thanks.

  • Flat file over HTTP or SOAP

    Hey Guys,
    I need to post a Flat file over HTTP (or SOAP), is this possible without developing my own Adapter module?
    I just need to get a Flat file from a FTP server and post to another server via HTTP,since there is no message mapping involved, i developed the scenario without any Integration Repository objects, it is just a pass-through scenario.
    Now i am stuck on the receiver side since i am unable to post Flat file over HTTP.
    Secondly i have Login URL, Logout URL and upload URL from the receiver system, i don't see any place in receiver HTTP adapter to put all these 3 URL's, can i use SOAP adapter to put all these URL anywhere?
    Any help would be appreciated.
