Masking with an object

Hi
I've been doing some masking with the clipping tool, but is there a way I can import 2 pngs and use the top one as a mask while the other animates underneath? I can't find anyway of doing this, so wondered if it was possible?
Thanks
Wayne

Hi kingmonkey,
I fear that the constraint is rectangular mask : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1285275?tstart=0
If you accept the pink area to be a rectangle : convert it to a symbol, setting its overflow property to hidden.
If you then move the wave animation inside that new symbol, you have the effect of the animation being clipped by the rectangle.
But sadly, this only works for a rectangle.

  • Mask with an objects (different behaviour)

Did you see that MASK is not work correctly when we will apply it to the OBJECT type of event?
We know how to work with masks. But when we try to add an mask to an type of "object" (circle, box etc) there is no mask, then we only got a second 'object'.
Did you realize that? Hot to work as usually when I want to add a mask to an object?

I think you are trying to draw a mask on a shape layer. If that is the case and you are using AE CS6 or later then look carefully at the tool bar. You will see a little pair of icons. One is a star the other is a little rectangle:
Click on the little rectangle to the right of the star and the tool will then create a mask on a shape layer. In earlier versions the icon's are differentlittle different. They are only visible when the shape tools are selected.

  • AS3 Masking with multiple objects bug

    Hi again.
I have simplified my script to tell more about the problem.
I'm creating Sprite which holds other Sprites with graphics. The whole Sprite is used to mask MovieClip.
When I don't apply it as a mask, it shows, that objects are rendered correctly. But when I add it as a mask, flash fails to draw a mask where those Sprite objects overlap each other. You can see an example here:
    With no masking applied: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/29/screenshot20110914at432.png/
    With masking applied: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/233/screenshot20110914at433.png/
As i've seen, this bug doesn't occur everytime mask overlaps.
    What could be the problem?

hey i was wondering if anyone knows whats with flash and
masking an item to multiple graphics within a graphic
IE i have a bunch of squares. they are each individual
graphic objects. there are about 40 of these squares in another
    graphic called squareContainer
im trying to mask a bitmap across squareContainer but when i
do it it will only mask against one of the 40 or so squares - how
do i get it to mask against all?

  • Mask with Shape

    Hi there.
I'm really excited to use the "mask with shape" feature in iWeb for some photos. Can anyone tell me if this is supported by all browsers on mac and windows platforms?
    thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You might try a method that Koeklin introduced to us for converting photos with reflections, drop shadows, etc. to a simple JPEG file that event the lowest IE can render correctly.
I created a tutorial on his method: #7 - Converting Photos w/Frames, Drop Shadows and/or Reflections into a Single JPG Image. It should also work for Mask with Shapes objects. It will also help "lighten" the page so it will load faster.

  • Opacity Masks in cs4 can't find layers with main objects on it.

I created image with flag and did clipping mask with some text. Now when I do a opacity mask my other layers disappear and i can't seem to bring them back. I use the transparency to mask and clip. After that my layers with the first original items I can't find them or get back to them. Can someone tell how I can resolve this problem.
    Thank you!

Once you start editing your opacity mask, you have to go back into normal editing mode by clicking on the object on the left side in the transparency panel.  Click on the right to edit the mask, click on the left to get back out of that to editing the rest of your document.  It's a bit confusing the way it's set up - there's no obvious indication that you're editing your mask and are isolated from the rest of your document...

  • Creating cut mask with live trace object?

Hi, I was wondering if it´s possible to creat a "cut mask" (in my spanish version -mascara de recorte) using an object created with live trace without expanding it. I need this because whenever I expand it, the object is so big and has so many paths that is impossible for my computer memory to work properly.
    Thank you!

No, that's not possible. You could only create an opacity Mask with that traced object. But you would get transparency then, this might make your workflow even more complicated depending on what exactly you're masking and what exactly the file will be used for afterwards.
Isn't it possible to simplify the path?

  • How can I align mask with object in Y axis?

    Hi
Can anybody help me? I want to put small band on the upper arm of man in the scene, he is walking from right to left, I put my image in upper layer and made rectangle band and animated it with his arm but the problem is that I cant align the band with arm in Y axis, because of that there are some small tremors in the band, how can I define exact point on the arm and align my mask with it?
    Appreciate any help in advance

^ Yep, Mylenium is right. There are two ways to do things - the easy way and the hard way. The easy way always involves thinking things through and establishing what you want before you shoot. Can you shoot with the band in place? If not, can you add tracking markers to the arm to facilitate adding the band later?
The hard way occurs when you have no choice and the work has to be done after the shoot. And Mylenium is dead right - before computers, EVERYTHING was done by hand, manually checking frame by frame until animations were correct. If your footage does not have the adequate preparation or detail for a computer to track, and you're unable to reshoot, the only option is to animate manually, check, fix, re-check, fix etc.
The Motion Tracking Workflow section of the manual is an excellent introduction:

  • Is possible to save a vector.pdf with smart object?

    Hi PS masters
I am finishing a poster, fully created in shapes in illustrator. Due to customers request I was forced to do some color corrections so I decided to use my PhotoShop CS6.
I imported vector files into my photoshop as smart objects, added some adjustments layer, few vector masks and I changed their layer style to get the finest result.
When I finished my work in PS I tryed to save this as .pdf
In my .psd there are shape layers, some groups and some adjustments layers with layer masks and changed Layer style to "color", one text layer and 3 smart objects imported from illustrator.
I want to keep my image scaleable for bigger resolutions.
... So I was trying to save this file as Adobe PDF but I found that whole graphic in exported .pdf was converted to raster, besides the border, cut marks and that one text layer.
I think that this is becuase of smart objects. (saving as .pdf without them works pretty good)
Now finaly my question.  Is somehow possible to save this document from photoshop as vector.pdf? or is possible to import group of shapes from illustrator to photoshop as shapes in photoshop? no as smart objects.
I am running out of time so I saved it as high res .Jpeg, but I want to know if this is somehow possible for future use or If I have to rather avoid that solution.
Thank you very much for your reactions
// I just thought if I can use InDesign for that. Will be included .pdf file as raster? or it will stay scaleable even with smart objects in it?

I am sorry but I don't have vector files right now (I'm on another PC), but I can show you "old" version of a poster, where you can see parts of their structure

  • Photoshop document with smart objects changed when I apply color profile. Why?

I work in Photoshop with smart objects. When I apply color profile smart object are changed. For example change filter or change size. I dont now why?
    See image

Yes, fortunately, I am a Windows user, but I don't want to start a religious war here And it is also possible to run multiple versions of Adobe products simultaneously under Windows - why shouldn't that be possible? Currently I have CS3 and CS4 and somtimes use CS3 when CS4 is just too buggy to get the job done. Before that I had CS and CS2 on the same machine.
But I wouldn't keep all versions back to PS 6.0 or CS, that would be a bit too chaotic and I'd had to spend days of installing if I get a new computer. I expect those programs to be a little bit backwards-compatible, so I don't have to use many different versions. And for Photoshop, this is mostly the case. It's just very tiny details like Smart Object resizing that seems to work differently.
Otherwise I'm really happy that in CS4 I can finally link Masks to smart objects and apply warp and perspective on them, that's a big plus!

  • How to Create a Clipping Mask with LIVE TEXT?

Please, please, pease...there's has to be a way to do this.
I'm currently working on a project in which I have a background that has a large text layer above it. What I want to do is create a sort of "dynamic" clipping mask that essentially subtracts the shape of the text from the background yet remains editable as text in case I need to change the word or font.
However every way I've tried so far as been met with the backgrouns instead being constrained inside of the shape of the text...which is NOT what I want.
How can I do this while still having the text able to be edited?

An Opacity mask will work, but it will also move artwork from various layers to one layer.
You can get the same effect with a Layer Clipping mask and keep objects on their layers.
In this example only one layer is clipped, but you can drag as may as you want below the clipping layer.

  • Best way to make a clipping mask with indesign drawn vector shapes?

What is the best way to create a clipping mask  with vector art that is drawn inside of indesign?
I have a group of vector shapes to paste into a rounded corner box. This art is grouped.
    What i tried:
-create the rounded corner box i want the art inside
    -cut art
    -edit > paste-into
This worked, but i could not figure out how to move the artwork once it was pasted into the shape. With the direct select tool i could move the individual objects, but not the group of objects. Any ideas?
Is this the best way to acomplish what i'm trying to do?
    Thanks!

Yopu don't mention the version of ID, which makes a difference here.
Paste Into is correct. In CS5 you can then use the content grabber donut to move the group inside the frame. In all versions you should be able to select the frame, tehn use Object > Select > Content to get the group, or use the button for that onthe Control Panel. Before CS5 you'll need to use the arrow keys or grab the center spot withthe mouse to move the group.

  • Mask or absorb object

how can I absorb or mask lines like in the picture:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/macvideofannr1/352779578/
it is like light hits a rotating obstical (rectangle) and so the shadow size on the other side changes according to the rotation
    G5 dual 2GHz / MacBook Pro Core Duo 2.16GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

AFAIK, you would have to do this the old fashioned way - by hand drawing a mask for a shadow... Not too hard - at least for your example... If the rotation is regular, you could use the Oscillate behavior to alter the size and time it with your object rotation...

  • Linking a Light with a object

How can I link the position of a light with a object?
I've draw a mask on a 2D solid (Light-Spill) that appears to be the light (Light-Spot) hitting the floor (another 2D object (still photo)) and I want to be able to move the Light in the X dimension and have the Light-Spill follow with it. Now, I can do this by hand but I thought there would be a way to link the position properties by a behavior but none seem to be the correct thing. Can you not just add a "script" to a property like postion.Light-Spill=positon.Light-Spot
    TonyTony

    Hey Case,
That did work. I had to make the Light-spill group a 3D group (then turned off lighting) and applied Match Move, dropped the Light-spot object in the source well. My Light-spill moved off the screen somewhere until I changed the transform pulldown from Attach to Mimic.
A behavior (expression) that you can change various things on would still be a nice addition. I could see one called Link (in the Basic Motion group), that you apply, then drop a source object in the well, then have some pulldowns the allow you to pull from a particular property and then modify that information and apply to a particular property. Something like take scale from object A and effect rotation of object B. Also would be nice to see the expression in a text field somewhere. This why you could make you own.
Probably throw this into the Motion user feedback.
    Thanks, your Special.

  • Move and/or Re-Size Opacity Mask with AppleScript

apologies if this is regarded as a dual post. I saw a thread about this but it only related to JavaScript.
Anyway, I cannot seem to re-scale or move the Opacity Mask of an object with Applescript. The vector item will behave just as it should, but the Opacity Mask will remain in place. As you can imagine, I have tried all manner of solutions, from trying to select raster items to move with transforming, etc. and nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I see...it seems to be a bug, the actual mask gets ignored. Probably to be consistent with the user interface, you can not select the mask with the mouse either.
maybe someone else has found a way to work with Opacity Masks, I haven't.
as a side note, there's no need to select the objects in order to size them or move them, you can just reference them. Also, there's no "Selected" object, change that to "selection".
