Master Data Material no change

Dear All,
In the book SAP BW "A Step by Step Guide"  by Biao Fu and Henry Fu, in the 12th chapter "Data Maintenance" , the topic deals with change of material name and short description of material no MAT003 master data. Material name is changed from cookie to snack and description is changed from fortune cookie to popcorn and then "activate master data" is done. What happens if I want to change the material number itself keeping others same. for e.g I want to change MAT003(name : cookie, description : fortune cookie ) to MAT999(name : cookie, description : fortune cookie ) i.e. changing materialno but keeping material name and description same. My materialno is master data and is used for sales,FI,QM etc cubes , ODS. So lot of data is mapped to material nos. If I change a material no  what is the impact on all these modules sales,FI ie the data mapped in these cubes?
Yours truly,
Ratish

Hi Ratish,
You want to change keys!
One way to do that is to copy the material from MAT003 to MAT999.
Then change all the SID-table in which MAT003 is referred to.
This is very tricky! I would not do that.
Better is to download the records from ODS's and Cubes that use MAT003 to Excel (only the first dataprovider in the dataflow).
Remove them with selective deletion (on tab "Contents"). And then upload the Excel-data with changed key.
Success,
Udo

  • Master Data - Material type

    Hi people!
Do you know with there is some way to change de Material type of the "master data material"  without create a new one?
    Thanks a lot,
    Rosana.

    Hi
    Use MMAM...
however, If stock exists - I think it will allow you only if the valuation class of the new and old material type is same
If val class is different, then issue stock to some cost center (MB1A - 201 movement type) - change the Mat Type and then again bring back the stock
If stock does not exist - Then No problem

  • Cost Center Master data field status change

    Hello Gurus,
I need to change the field status of 'User Responsible' field as required from optional in the cost center master data. I am not being able to get the exact answer from my searches. If anyone can help with an answer, it would be great.

    Dear,
You can use screen variant also...
    Transaction code: SHD0
and make that field as required.

  • Why change pointers for master data, why not change message?

    Hi Gurus,
I have one doubt about Idoc.
When changes to master data has to be sent Change pointers are configured and used. (CDPOS & CDHDR). In case of the transaction data change change idoc is used as is the case with orders (we use ORDCHG for ORDERS message type to send the chnage details to a order which was already sent to other system.
Why we can't use change idoc or message type whatever, instead of Chnage pointers in case of master data or vice versa in case of transaction data.
Your valuable input will be rewarded with suitable points!!
    -B S B.

Change pointers are getting stored in the tables BDCP and BDCPS. As SAP suggests these tables should be as small as possible. And Master data are not much frequently changed data.
As you compare with the transactional data, you need to change them many times in the real scenario. If we also process the transaction data via chnage pointer, these changes BDCP is getting more and more entries.
RBDCPCLR is the program used to process the change pointer. If you have much data in the BDCP table, this program will take much time to run.
So, we use the change pointers for the master data only.

  • Difference between Activating Master Data and Attribute Change Run

    Hi
Is there any difference between Atribute change run and Activating Master data functionaaly???
    if wha it is???
    can any one explain clearly?
    Thanks
    Chinna

When u load master data and its attribute to ur data target and if u change any data or attributes of ur master data,in order to update new data to ur data target attribute change run is performed.
When u create a characteristic and if u keep it as master data and activated..it is master data activation
    Activating Master Data
When you update master data from an SAP system the master data is imported in an inactive state. You must activate the new master data so that it can be accessed and used for reporting purposes.
For more information, see Versioning Master Data.
Choose the path InfoObject Tree Context Menu of Corresponding Characteristic Activate Master Data.
Upon Activation there are two scenarios to choose from:
The Corresponding Master Data Is Already Being Used in Aggregates in the InfoCube:
If you are already using the available master data in aggregates in InfoCubes, you cannot activate the master data individually. In this case, proceed as follows:
    1. In the main menu, choose the path Tools Hierarchy/Attribute Change.
    2. Proceed as described in System Response upon Changes to Data: Aggregate.
The system now automatically restructures and activates the master data and its aggregates.
Please note that this process can take several hours if the volume of data is relatively high. Therefore, you should simultaneously activate all of the characteristics that are affected by changes to their master data, at regular intervals.
The Corresponding Master Data Is Not Used in Aggregates:
Choose the path InfoObject Tree ® Context Menu of Corresponding Characteristic Activate.
The system now automatically activates the master data so that it can be used directly in reporting.
If there is any change r newly added records in master data..then that particular data will not b avialable for the reporting unless u do activate master data...
if u r using aggregates and then there is any change in master data ...then that particular master data change wil not b available for the reporting unless u do arrtibute change run for that info object.(T-code RSATTR)
Master data attributes and hierachies are used in cube aggregates also. So to do update the latest master data attributes values in the aggregtes attribute change run need to be performed. So Attribute change run also updates the master data attributes in aggregates which is not apart of master data activation.
Text loads do not need attribute change run. Attributes, hierarchies and aggregates need attribute/hierarchy change runs. If you do not have aggregates, just activating the master data is same as attribute change run.

  • How to change cost center in asset master data through mass changes

    Hi sap gurus,
Hi i have 20 assets i have to change the cost center through mass changes provide the solution.
    regards,
    ramanjaneyulu.

    Hi,
For 20 assets it won't be useful to write a CATT or LSMW. So, either enter it manually or you could correct directly in the tables (ANLZ), though it's generally not recommended.

  • XI IDOC Master Data Synch with Change Pointer (GLMAST)

    Hi,
I have scenario to create integration between 2 SAP system with XI 7.0 using IDOC - GLMAST. I already acitvate Change Pointer Globally (BD61) and Activate Change Pointer for GLMAST (BD50).
The problem is whenever changes have done in system 1, 2 IDOC generated, First IDOC  to Logical System PRODUCTION and second IDOC to Logical System SALES.
In order to seding the IDOC i have scheduled report RBDMIDOC. My question is how i can modify the IDOC target port in stead of send to PRODUCTION and SALES to others port (XI in this case).
    Thank you and Regards
    Fernand

    Hi Prateek
I already create partner profile and port for XI and add GLMAST. but then the IDOC generated alwasy sent to PRODUCTION and SALES partner profile.
How to disable that IDOC to send to PRODUCTION and SALES partner profile and only send to XI Profile ?
    Thank you and Regards

  • Read Master Data for Process order status change (REL to CRTD)

I am unable to read master data and thus change the status of process order from REL to CRTD. (COR2)
The reason it says, error in BOM reading, Transport Requirement (TR) already generated.
Even after deleting the TR (LB02), the issue still exists.
Is there another way of changing the status or some more steps are needed for the TR deletion?
    Thnx!
    Abhi.

    Order header Status-
    REL  Released
    MSPT Material shortage
    PRT  Printed
    PRC  Pre-costed
    BASC Batch assignment complete
BCRQ Order to be handled in batches
    SETC Settlement rule create.
In the error log it gives-
    Diagnosis
Transfer requirements have already been generated, so therefore the bill of material cannot be read.
    System Response
The system does not execute the action.
Then I deleted the TR (LB02), but still I cannot reread the master data.
The MSPT was for only 2 materials out of 6 and there is no GMPS status.
There is prod supply area and control cycle used.
and the TR generated at order release.

  • Create Material Master Data with BAPI

    Hi,
I don't know using of BAPI. I want using BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA bapi for creating material master data for Basic Data1, Basic Data2, Purchasing and MRP views. Does anybody can help me ?
    Thank you
    Good night

    Hi,
Please refer to the documentation below:
    BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA
    Short Text
Create and Change Article Master Data
    Functionality
You use this method to create new material master data or to change existing material master data. The data on a material can be transferred for each call.
When creating material master data, you must transfer the material number, the material type, and the industry sector to the method. You must also enter a material description and its language.
When changing material master data, you need enter only the material number.
In the header data, you must select at least one view for which data is to be created. Depending on the view selected, you must maintain other required parameters. If you do not enter values for all of the required parameters, the method is ended with an error message.
The corresponding fields in the tables (such as CLIENTDATA) must first be supplied with data by the calling program. An indicator must also be set for each of these fields so that the data is written to the database by the method. This requires the calling program to supply the corresponding field with the indicator in a checkbox table (for example, CLIENTDATAX). Checkbox tables exist for tables that do not contain any language-dependent texts (MAKT, MLTX), International Article Numbers (MEAN), or tax classifications (MLAN). Several data records for a material can be created in these tables.
If a structure contains fields for units of measurement (such as structure CLIENTDATA, field BASE_UOM), language indicators (such as structure MATERIALDESCRIPTION, field LANGU), or country indicators (such as structure TAXCLASSIFICATIONS, field DEPCOUNTRY), there is always a field of the same name with the ending _ISO. This makes it possible to transfer either the internally used SAP code or a standardized ISO code for the units of measurement, language indicators, or country indicators. ISO codes are converted to an SAP code internally for further processing. The ISO code is used only if the SAP code is not transferred. If you use ISO codes, there must be a unique assignment of the ISO code to the SAP code in the following activities in Customizing for Global Parameters:
    Check Units of Measurement
    Define Countries
If you want to maintain long texts (basic data texts, internal comments, purchase order texts, material memos, or sales texts) or customer-defined fields for a material, some special conditions have to be observed. They are described in the documentation for parameters MATERIALLONGTEXT and EXTENSIONIN.

  • Changing master data record while loading Transaction data

    Hello All,
We have a requirementt to change one of the master data field(FLAG) while loading on the transaction data.
we get the material info in the Master data. and in the sales order item data also we get the material.
While loading the Transaction data, I have to set a FLAG field has "s" in the Master data material based on the Key selection:
Master data -  MAterial = Tramsaction - Data Material.
I have written the code.. and implemented.. i get the correct records but i face huge performance issue. can any one guide me please
DATA: itab1 TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF /bi0/pmaterial,
               wa_itab1 TYPE /bi0/pmaterial,
               w_tabix TYPE sy-tabix.
         IF itab1 IS INITIAL.
           SELECT * FROM /bi0/pmaterialINTO TABLE itab1.
         ENDIF.
         LOOP AT result_package ASSIGNING <result_fields>.
READ TABLE itab1 INTO wa_itab1 WITH KEY
                              material =  <result_fields>-material.
           IF sy-subrc = 0.
             w_tabix = sy-tabix.
             IF <result_fields>-/bic/paa1c2033 IS NOT INITIAL.
               wa_itab1-FLAG = 'S'.
               MODIFY itab1 FROM wa_itab1 INDEX w_tabix TRANSPORTING FLAG .
             ENDIF.
           ENDIF.
         ENDLOOP.
         IF itab1 IS NOT INITIAL.
           MODIFY /bi0/pmaterial FROM TABLE itab1.
         ENDIF.

    Here are some performance tips:
Add FOR ALL ENTRIES IN result_package WHERE material = result_package-material to your select statement
After your select statement, add IF SY-SUBRC = 0.  SORT itab1 BY material. ENDIF.
In your read statement, add BINARY SEARCH to the end of it
At the end of your end routine, make sure to CLEAR itab1.
You can also increase the number of parallel processes for your DTP, and DSO activation (assuming your target is DSO).

  • Aggregates with Attribute Change Run and Master data

    Hi !
I created Aggregate which includes Master Data such as Customer , Customer Number , Material , Material Number.....
It also contains navigational attribute and hierarchy...
Now we all know that if Master data and Hierarchy changes frequently(or some new values are added or new attributes are added etc.) we want to see the respective change in Aggregates too
So just Rolling up aggregate will not help.
We need to apply Attribute Change run for this purpose, to aggregates..
Now the question is HOW TO  APPLY ATTRIBUTE CHANGE RUN to aggregates?
How to automate this process with Process chains..?
If i create Aggregate on Master Data CUSTOMER NO., DOES IT AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDE THAT AGGREGATE IN ATTRIBUTE CHANGE RUN FOR THAT CUSTOMER NO. PROCESS CHAINS ?   Yes or No..........
(What i mean to say is if there is Attribute Change Run for Customer No. and if this is in Process chains specially created for Customer Number , than as aggregates are created on  Customer No., does i t automatically applies and make changes to Aggregate too, or do we hvae to create special process chian for it ?)
Please reply asap ? its urgent

    hi,
check these links for attribute change run
What's the attribute change run? and the common sequence of a process chain

  • Maintain Change Pointer for Customer Master?(change in Master data)

    Hello everyone,
i want to capture change in master data .whenever a change happen to  required  field in  customer master an idoc should be create for that and the entry should e made in table CDHDR and CDPOS.
Please tell me the entire process how  can i achieve this .

    Hi,
    Tables / Functions:
The change pointers are stored in tables BDCP and BDCPS.
With release ECC 6.0 SAP delivered a new table BDCP2 for increased performance. Which table shall be used is defined in transaction BD50 (see below). There is a function to migrate “old” change pointers to the new table.
The function group BD01 contains function modules for reading and updating the new change pointers in table BDCP2.
    BDCP
    Change pointer
    BDCP2
    Aggregated Change Pointers (BDCP, BDCPS)
    BDCPS
    Change pointer: Status
    Prerequisites:
There has to exist a Change Document Object (CDO) for the SAP-object we change. For standard objects like material masters, vendors or customers these objects already exist. For own business objects we have to define a change document object with transaction SCDO .
In the corresponding data element for the database field the flag „Change document“ has to be active.  check the details in the transaction
The usage of change pointers has to be actived generally for the system
    Transaction BD61

  • How track changes in production order which is already Read PP master data

    Hi Gurus,
Due to some unavoidable reason my client has to do Read PP master data time and again, now my client having a requirement that want to see what has been changes in Production Order.
We already created 1 report for that which tracks whatever has been changed in Production Order but having a constraint in it.  That It could not be able to distinguish to which order READ PP MASTER DATA done.
So my query is how to map that in report. As sytem Status directly changed to CRTD phase.
Any table which can track the changes once the order been through with READ PP MASTER DATA?
As there are huge number of Production Order so we can go and open each order to see the Status changes in each and every order.
Hope to get a reply soon.
    Regards,
    Sap User

    Hi,
    A suggestion:
Change the specification as, log changes at each save instead of Read PP Master Data, as the changes would become effective only upon save. So if this is acceptable then 2 options, 1. Go with OCM feature or 2. Refer note - 390635
Revert if you face any issues.
    Regards,
    Vivek
