Master data transport steps

Hi expert,
What will be the steps to transport master data in BI 7? I have transported relevant R/3 data source and then replicated data source in BW. Then I start collecting BW info objects for the master data. When collecting BW info objects for transport, do I need include data source, transfer rule and info pacakges? If so, why do I need to collect data source again in BW system as it has already been replicated from the source system?
Thank in advance for any advise.
Sharon

Hi,
The procedure for loading master data in 7.0 is :
1. Create / Activate your data source for the info object you want load - for example data source for attributes, text ot hierarchy - SAP R/3
2. Replicate data source in SAP BW
3. Create Data Transformation ( similar to Update and Transfer rules) between Data Source and Info Object
4. Create DTP ( data transfer process) to maintain the data flow . Here you have to specify that data comes from Data Source and goes to the Info Object.
5. Create an Info Package on the Data Source and load data - !!! have in mind that this will load data only into PSA table
6. Final step - you have to start your DTP - this will load data from PSA to the Info Object.
For the majority of Master Data, there will be datasources in Business Content.  need to install Business Content . This will install all datasources that you require - Customer, Material etc. plus all standard config - DSO, Cubes etc.

  • Master Data Setup Steps & Execution for SNP Aggregated Planning

    Hi,
I need some URGENT Help on the Master Data Steps and Execution of SNP Aggregated Planning.  I've read the SCM 5.0 help with quite confusing understanding from it as regards to Master Data setup.
I want to run SNP for a Group of Products at a Group of Locations (say Customer Group or Group of Distribution Centers) at an Aggregate Level & then later Disaggregate the Generated Supplies from the Aggregate Level to the detailed Product-Locations level.
I have setup a Location Hierarchy with the Group of Distribution Centers and Product Hierarchy with a Group of Products  & since  SNP_LOCPROD aggregation is assigned to the 9ASNP02 Planning area ... I created a LOCPROD Hierarchy which use the Location & Product Hierarchy.
The Main intention is to Improve Performance of Planning Runs at a Rough Cut  / Aggregate Level by doing a Rough Cut Capacity Check & Split Distribution Center requirements to Multiple Plants producing the same product.  This would also help increase the Optimizer Performance.
I am finding there is no place to run SNP Heuristic by Specifiying a Hierarchy in the Selection screen of /sapapo/snp01.  So how is Aggregated Planning even run ?
(I know there are Aggregation & Disaggregation Functions available in SNP Interactive Planning ... but what do I put in the Selection as 'Hierarchies' are not available in the Selections in the 9ASNPAGGR  Aggregation Planning Book).
Can someone also Provide me Detailed Steps and point me to a Detailed Training document on this  ?  I could not find anything on the SDN Form as well as BPX Forum as well as on Wiki site from within SDN.
Please if anybody can Guide me Urgently  ?  I am needing to test this quickly to Demo to someone to demonstrate the APO Capabilities  (else the Customer may lose interest in APO as he is comparing functionality with another tool).  I don't want this to happen.

    Harish,
Read your Blog with great interest. I think you have very nicely captured the Features over there.  It was very helpfull.
I still have some very very basic questions (sorry if I was not clear earlier) and I will try state with an Example.
    Are you saying ...
    1.  If I have 2 Products FG1 & FG2 .. then I need to FIRST
create another Product Master called FG1_2_GP (say)
         via Trnx.  /sapapo/mat1  ?
    2. Similarly for the 5 DCs say DC1, DC2 .... DC5 ... I need
to First Create a Location of type 1002 DC1_5_GP (say)
        via Trnx. /sapapo/loc3 first  ?
I think I have not done these at all.
    3.  Finally are you saying that I need to now Create the
         Hierarchies ... ZCPGPROD  (using FG1 & FG2)
         and ZCPGLOC (using DC1, DC2 ... DC5)  and
then create a generated Hierarchy ZCPGLOCPROD
with Structure SNP_LOCPROD and using the ZCPGPROD
and ZCPGLOD as Component Hierarchies ?
    4. I am still not clear how would you Link  Product Group
    FG1_2_GP  with  ZCPGPROD  ??  Where do we setup that FG1_2_GP is a Header of FG1 & FG2 ?
    5. Similarly where do you Link Location Group DC1_5_GP with the Location Hierarchy  ZCPGLOC  ?
    6. Finally in SNP Interactive Planning with Planning Book 9ASNPAGGR using the Location-Product (Header) as Selection what will I enter in this field ?
I read your Blog. More details on the Example would help ... I saw in your Blog the PH_POWDER product Group (containing PH_FG1,2,3 Products) example which I was not clear whether it was a New Product you created via /sapapo/mat1 or a New Hierarchy Code created via /sapapo/relhshow.  Similarly you did create Location Groups PH_DC_AGG but do not seem to have used it.  I think you have assigned PH_POWDER group and assigned to Locations 3000, 3100 & 3400 individually via /sapapo/mat1 ... but was not clear on how you linked it to the Location Product Hierarchies.  You have also not created a Location Produc Hierarchy at all using PH_POWDER and PH_DC_AGG at all ... or have you  ?
    7. Is the Untold Trick that the Product Hierarchy Name and the Product Group created in Trnx. MAT1 must be same  and the Location Hierarchy Name and the Location Group code created in LOC3 Trnx. should be same ?
    8. I had created a Generated Hierarchy at ZCPGLOCPROD ... is this what I enter in 9ASNPAGGR as Selection of Location-Product (Header)  ?
    9. I want to first understand Standard SNP before I go into the diretion of creating my own Planning areas and Planning Books. Is this really needed for me to Plan 2 Products in these 5 DCs at an Aggregate level.  I will be doing Aggregation of all kinds of Demand (STOs, POs, Forecast, SalesOrders, TLB Order Demand) and want the Supply generated at Aggregated Level to Disaggregate to the 2 FGs at the 5 DC Locations based on Proportion of Demand.
I think my question is far more basic wrt the Master Data Setup ... would help if you can clarify each of my questions separately in your reply.  The Confusion is due to lack of clarity on the Master Data Setup in linking the Product Group PRODUCT Code & Location Group LOC Code to the respective Hierarchies and also SNP Interactive Planning not having a Place to enter these created Hierarchies.
I do want to praise and appreciate your contribution to the Blog ,,, well done.  Full 10 Points Guaranteed on reply to above questions.

  • Best practise in SAP BW master data management and transport

    Hi sap bw gurus,
I like to know what is the best practise in sap bw master data transport. For example, if I updated my attributes in development, what are the 'required only' bw objects should I transport?
    Appreciate advice.
    Thank you,

    Hi Vishnu,
Thanks for the reply but that answer may be suitable if I'm implementing a new BW system. What I'm looking for is more on daily operational maintenance and transport (a BW systems that has gone live awhile).

  • Process Chain - Master data Reorganizing and Realignment

    Hello Experts,
    1) Could you provide me the best practice on using the Re-organizing the master data for Time independant and time dependant attributes/texts.
    2) In addition to attribute change run for Master data attr/hier/texts, how significantly it would help by adding Re-organizing the master data process step to the master data load process chains ?  Is it mandatory to have this step at all ?
    3) Is it sufficient to run the realignment for attributes alone or you have to run it again after loading the hierarchies ?
    4) Advice whether to add Re-organize master data step for every single attribute and texts since it cant be grouped like other process types such as attribute realignment run!
    Look forward for your updates!

  • Update Master Data Attributes yellow in DTP

    Hi All,
After  loading the master data DTP, the request becomes greeen but the "Update Master Data Attributes" step is still yellow. Let me know how to overocome this error
    Thanks,
    Sathya

    Hi,
This is a master data full load and it updates more than 1 lakh records. Technically the Overall and technical status of my  DTP request becomes Green but when i go to the details tab and drill down the data package the "Update Master Data Attributes" still remains yellow so i dont think my load will update the attributes for my info object successfully.
Is there a  solution to overcome or did anyone face this similar issue?
    Thanks

  • Master Data Configuration

I am looking for Master Data Configuration Step by Step guide.

    Ashar, (and Abhishek)
Please do not use e-mail addresses in this forum.  It means that the info will go only to you.  This deprives all of the other users the benefit of any answers.
Master data does not have it's own configuration guide.  The way that your master data will be configured is totally dependent on the business scenario you are creating.  Most of the critical steps are contained in the configuration docs for the scenarios.
Review the basic Materials Management configuration guide below.  It should get you started for a basic purchasing environment.  This version localized for Pakistan for the benefit of Ashar.
    http://help.sap.com/bp_bl603/BBLibrary/Documentation/104_BB_ConfigGuide_EN_PK.doc
There are other documents for you to review that may also assist you in the BP guides.  http://help.sap.com/bp_bl603/BBLibrary/Content_Library_BL_EN_PK.HTM
The important configuration for a vendor is the relationships between the vendor and the various organizational structures in your company(s).  For these relationships to be configured, you first need to know how your company(s) will be structured, as mentioned in the earlier posting.  For some hints, look in the above link under Enterprise structure and Enterprise structure extensions.

    hi,
    Dont transport master data differently.
If you are transporting standard cubes...Pls see the following steps....
    1.Source system assignment.
    2.Conversion(Source system ....Target system)
    3.Grouping data flow BEFORE
    4.Collection mode AUTOMATICALLY
    5.display LIST
6.Drag and drop your Infoprovider.(Check infocube objects are selected properly or not...by default it will check
    all the related objects)
    7.Click on package...
Note:Check all infoobjects.....by default it will check some objects only....
hope it will solve your problem.

  • Steps to prepare and upload legacy master data excel files into SAP?

    Hi abap experts,
We have brand new installed ECC system somehow configured but with no master or transaction data loaded .It is new empty system....We also have some legacy data in excel files...We want to start loading some data into the SAP sandbox step by step and to see how they work...test some transactions see if the loaded data are good etc initial tests.
    Few questions here are raised:
-Can someone tell me what is the process of loading this data into SAP system?
-Should this excel file must me reworked prepared somehow(fields, columns etc) in order to be ready for upload to SAP??
-Users asked me how to prepared their legacy excel files so they can be ready in SAP format for upload.?Is this an abaper job or it is a functional guy job?
-Or should the excel files be converted to .txt files and then imported to SAP?Does it really make some difference if files are in excel or .txt format?
-Should the Abaper determine the structure of those excel file(to be ready for upload ) and if yes, what are the technical rules here ?
-What tools should be used for this initial data loads? CATT , Lsmw , batch input or something else?
-At which point we should test the data?I guess after the initial load?
-What tools are used in all steps before...
-If someone can provide me with step by step scenario or guide of loading some kind of initial master data - from .xls file alignment to the real upload - this will be great..
You can email me some upload guide or some excel/txt file examples and screenshots documents to excersize....
    Your help is appreciated it.!

  • Long DDIC Activation for Master Data Change During Transport

    Good Morning Folks,
During transport of a change to a custom master data object to production, the data dictionary activation is taking a very long time and using a very large amount of space.
The change to the master data object was adding three additional navigational attributes. This master data is not time-dependant.  The master data contains about 1.2 million records and has 49 active navigational attributes u2013 including the three new ones.  The Data Dictionary activation is executing report SAPLRSDU for more than 8 hours and is using upwards of 52GB of temp filespace (of 92GB allocated) during this time.  To the best of our knowledge, it looks as if it is trying to recreate or repopulate the /BIC/Pxxxx table of the master data.   It looks like it's reading billions of records (probably the same 1.2 m records over and over.)
There are no errors in any logs that we can see.
Previous changes to this master data object have been successful, and reasonably fast.  And the transport of this change from Dev to our QA environment was very fast.
We still need to get this change in, as well as additional changes that are dependant.  Why would this take so long, and is there anything we can do to get this to run faster?
BTW:  We are on 3.5 (but looking forward to NW7.)
    Thanks, Brian

    Brian,
Usually adding nav attributes would mean that the X and y tables get regenerated...
Also do you notice reads only on the P-Table or other tables which have this object as well..?
If it is only the P Table - try refreshing the stats for the same...

  • Steps to create customized Master  data infoobjects in BI 7

    Hi all,
Can anyone please send the detailed steps to create customized master data infoobject in BI7,and also the data is to be extracted from two different datasources from two different source systems.
    Regards,
    G.Monica Roja Flora.

Some data modelling tips while creating master data infoobject and extracting data from different source systems -
If there are identical characteristic values describing different objects for the same characteristic in various source systems, you have to convert the values in such a way in SAP BW so as to make them unique.
For example, the same customer number may describe different customers in different source systems.
You can carry out conversion in the transfer rules for this source system or in the transfer routine for the characteristic.
If work involved in conversion is too great, you can compound the characteristic to the InfoObject Source System ID (0SOURSYSTEM). This means it is automatically filled with master data. The Source System ID is a 2-character identifier for a source system or a group of source systems in BW. The source system ID is updated with the ID of the source systems that provides the data. Assigning the same ID to more than one source system creates a group of source systems. The master data is unique within each group of source systems.

  • Transport PC and CC master data

    Hi,
Can we transport profit and cost center master data? I didn't see that option on menu when I created one.
Also, I tried transporting std hierarchy, which is allowed and in there I checked Profit center master data to be transport along. But my questions are:
    1. Whether complete list is transported or are only the Profit center under the highlighted node get transported?
    2. Do they get copied into other clients in active/inactive state?
    3. Does the transport carry only the changes or the complete hierarchy?
    Please advise!
    Thanks!
    N.

    1. If the hierarchy was already created and transported and now I make some more changes to it, will the transport carry the whole of hierarchy or only the changes.
    Entire Hierarchy
    2. Though there is a check box for only std hierarchy, still does that mean both std and alternative hierarchy will be tranported.
I think just the std hierarchy
    3. There seems to be no way I could select the cost/profit centers specifically in these transactions. Does that mean all the profit and cost centers in the client will get transported.
    Yes
    4. I am assuming they will be transported in active state if activated in originating client. Is that correct?
    Yes
Using above transaction, it is always suggested to transport hierarchy, profit centers and groups together; as groups are just sets and if not transported could cause inconsistencies in the target system.
Here is SAP's recommendation on transporting PC master data.
    Recommendation
    1. Always transport the following objects together to avoid inconsistencies in the target system:
The standard hierarchy and the profit center groups represent logical sets of profit centers. Transporting these sets separately could lead to inconsistencies if the corresponding profit centers (master data) do not exist or are incorrect in the target system.
    2. If you have transported profit centers, restart the matchcode data in the target system so that the transported master data can be displayed using the "Possible entries" function.

  • Transporting Master data & Attribute Order

    Hi there,
is there an easy way to also transport all master data from Development (D) to Production (P)?
I only found a how-to paper for importing master data from the BW where BPC is running into BPC itself.
For small projects, opening the dimension sheet for a dimension on D in the admin client, copying all  masterdata to an Excel file, opening the dimension sheet for the corresponding dimension on P (which is initially empty) and copying all the data there from the Excel file was the workaround. Is there a more sophisticated way to do this automatically?
One more thing: is it normal that the order of attributes in the dimension sheet for a dimension on D and the corresponding created dimension on P is not the same (the columns' order is not mantained)? Is there a way to have the same order on both systems?
    Thanks for your help!

Okay, I understand and I think I ran into this once before.   What I did was choose one and test it out .... if it works, it works .... move on and forget.  If it doesn't work, try the other one.
It should work with either because you are merely looking up 0MAINTPLANT from 0CS_DOC.  You are choosing 1 of two options that are exactly the same, so they should give you exactly the same result.
