Master-Detail Linking and column selectors

Does anyone know if it's possible (in 11.1.1.7) to create a master-detail link on a column that's part of a column selector?
There's a master "roll-up" table using a column that's part of a column selector group. For one of the columns in the group, I've set the interaction to "Send Master-Detail Event".
There's a detail table that uses that same column, and listens on the correct channel.
However, when clicking on the column output in the master roll-up table, the detail doesn't change.
I should mention I'm using the latest Firefox on PC, if that matters.

Implementing master-detail link

Hi experts,
I am trying to set up a master-detail link between 2 pivot tables. I have defined a master column and a detail view and a channel. However, the link does not work.
When I right-click on the cell that should link to the detail view, I get 'Send master detail event', but nothing happens, and the cell is not clickable with a hyperlink.
What did I do wrong?

Master-Details Link

Hi,
I have done master details in obiee 11g,since when i am trying with dimension column its working fine,where my requirement is how to achieve master details link in hirerchial column,in 1st report i have kept product hirerchial cloumn with 1 measure and 2nd report same product hirerchial colum nand 1 measure when i given link master -details link its not working.can anyone suggest how to achieve that.

the problem is not in fetching of detaisl VO - when I using table region to show rows of detaisl VO it fetches and dispays data normally, but if I use messagecomponentLayout with 3 messagestyledtext items on it - those items display data when I select different rows in master table, but display nothing when there is singe row in the master table....Should I somehow refresh the messagecomponentLayout region?

Can we use a view selector and column selector inside a report in one section of the dashboard?Here view selector is nothing but having multiple views and selecting depends on what end user want to see.You are saying in a single report in once section only.
If it is a single report you can go with using a column selector.
Note:-View selector and column selector combination can be used.....but it looks wierd as you need to select view at the same time the corresponding column.

Yes you can have it by creating different compound layouts with pivots in it.

[Help] Gauge as master table in master-detail links

I am working on master-detail links POC these days. Found most of views work as a master view or a detail view. But found Gauge only works for a detail view. Never succeed to make it work as a master view.
Checked the Oracle documents. They do say Gauge can be. So anybody has the success experience and could share how to make that?
I built one Bar char, one Pivot Table and one Gauge as the master views and one normal table as the detail view in one analysis. All work well but Gauge. It's a bug?

I can't reach the file at the link you gave (bcvrf.yahoo.com not found) so I can't tell quite what you're trying to do. Can you provide a bit more detail? Are you using the ER modeler or the schema diagram? If you're modeling tables in the schema diagram then the answer is you can't - there must be a foreign key at one end and that is always represented as a 'many'. To enforce a 1:1 relationship you must add code (probably in the server), for example, db triggers.

I have checked that Master Detail linking works between an Analysis and a Graph etc. But is it possible to have a Master Detail Linking between a Gauge and a Graph such that when I drill down on a Gauge my Graph should reflect the same results.

Project Site Quick Links has 2 Project Details Links and no Recent Links

Project Sites when created has 2 Project Details Links and the Recent Links with the it's sublinks does not appear. I have this problem on two PWA Instances and not on a 3rd. Project Server 2013 with SP1 installed. Does
anyone know what cause this?
Of the 3 PWA instances the 2 that it occurs on are on different SP farms. I have created a Mastersite template saved as a solution and added to the EPT. The Master site has the correct links before I save it as a template

Hi Andrew,
How did you create the site that you used as the template? Did it start out as a site already attached to a project? If so you should create a blank project site not attached to a project / create during the project create process. Part of the project create
/ site creation process adds properties associated to that project in the site's property bag etc. you don't want these properties causing issues for other project sites. See the steps below on creating an example custom project site template:

Master Detail Wizard and User Interface Defaults

Trying to create a master/detail form (on one page, no report).
1. Wizard is giving the option to use User Interface Defaults for the master table, but not for the detail (I don't want to for either) - is this the expected behaviour? If so, why the inconsistency? Will/can this be changed in the future?
2. Despite selecting NOT to use UI defaults, and entering new region titles, wizard is creating default region titles using the UI defaults. Is this a bug?
3. Supplementary: Is it possible to get rid of UI defaults?

OBIEE UI Interface is missing prompt functionality and Column Selector in Answers when creating a report. This problem occurs on all the reports. Also the problem occurs in firefox too. Could you please suggest me any suggestion to overcome this issue.

May sound stupid, but do you have the Privileges to add these things to a report? These features can be turned on/off from the Privilege Administration Screen, for a group or user. Have a look.

Master Detail Link Between Hierarchy column and graph

Hi all,
I have created report using hierarchy columns of project dimension.
Project total -> Project Group -> Project subgroup ->Project Name
When I click Project Group of hierarchy column , Graph has to change with respect to that column.
Help me as soon as possible.

Hi,
Check if you are using the following types of views for the detail views:
-Graph
-Funnel graph
-Gauge
-Table
-Pivot table
A detail view:
-Can listen for master-detail events from multiple master views
-Can be in the same analysis as the master view or in a different analysis
-Cannot act as a master to another view
NOTE: Please mention if this resolved your problem/still facing and close the thread to assist others with similar problems.

How to retrieve DB links and column names details used in code

Hi All,
I am looking for code that will retrieve database links name, referenced object and column names used in source code within the schema.
It’s easy enough to find the link names using xxx_db_links / user_source, the trick part it to list the column names used within the code.
Any expert advice is much appreciate

OBIEE 11g: Inconsistencies with Master-Detail events and Navigate to BI

Hi everyone,
I'm getting some pretty annoying inconsistencies with the Navigate to BI Content action as well as the Master-Detail events. Basically the main issue I get is that 90% of the time, the click does nothing.
It's a pretty simple setup, I am setting up bulb gauges to act like a fancy column selector. The bulb gauges are setup to pivot based on a Metric Type column. The goal is that if you click on "Metric 1" bulb a trend report should refresh to show Metric 1. If you click on the "Metric 2" bulb, the same trend report will show that metric.
Here's how I implemented it:
Dashboard Tab A -- Uses Navigate to BI Content
1) I have a prompt on Fiscal month in dashboard tab A.
2) I created the bulb gauge and put it in dashboard tab A
3) Setup the interaction on the bulb measure to navigate back to Dashboard Tab A.
3) Prompted the trend on Metric Type column and put it in dashboard tab A.
4) In theory, clicking on the bulb, should navigate back to the same tab and update the trend report appropriately
5) In reality, nothing happens.
6) The only way I can get the navigate to work is if I first change the value in the fiscal month prompt and click Go. Then I click on the bulb and the navigation will work ONCE. After that it's broken again.
Dashboard Tab B -- Use Master Detail -Events
1) Pretty much same situation as dashboard A, but instead of navigate to BI Content, I use the master-detail events.
2) Pretty much the same results. I cannot get it to consistently work, in fact the trick with the filter didn't do anything.
3) One thing I tried was cleared my browser history completely (Mozilla Firefox) and then launched the page. It work for about 5 clicks and then stopped.
Either way, neither of these are working properly for me.
Has anyone else had these issues?

So someone explained to me that master-detail events only occur within a single report. They cannot be used to communicate across two different reports.
That is significantly less useful than I originally thought. I honestly that it was a method of communication for one report to update other target reports that are all listening on the same channel. That would have been a powerful feature. A single report refreshing other views in the same report is still useful, but not as much.
That being said, I still don't understand what the heck is going on with the navigate to BI content feature. I've been testing it out. It works with pivot tables and regular tables. But the moment I add a graph, gauge or even a "Filter" view into the dashboard page, the click stops working. Really really strange stuff.

ADF Master Detail Insertion and updation

I am developing a web application with the ADF using ADF BC4J as a buisness service and JSP as th view.
I am creating a Master detail page that makes the user add the ,master and the detail(s) information in the same page.
Example:
you may insert the department and the employess in that department in the same transaction (post) also the update

Two questions...
1. Will a future version of Jdeveloper support a drag and drop update-able multirow table?
2. The existing example of doing this (Without Jheadstart) behaves different than a single row input form, as Duncan Mills points out, in that it loses the values that are input if validation errors occur. This same thing happends in the JHeadstart workspace.
a) after running the code and just showing the bindings and form values, it appears a standard input form has the new values immediately after processUpdateModel(). Even if they are in error, and it later fails to make it through validateModelUpdates the values are retained.
b) in the Multi-row example, you can examine the form bean values (for the multiple rows), and examine the values from the rowset obtained through the DCUtil.findSpelObject() and JUCtrlValueBindingRef calls, and the bindings don't change. The validateModelUpdates still manages to produce the error though.
So, with a multi-row update form...
a) How do you get the ROW specific error msg generated from a declarative or method-based validator? - that is, put a msg in for the row like: You can't put XXX into this field.
Right now, we modified the BEAN to include an ErrMsg column and added that as a transient attribute to entity and view, and can display the messages via that by putting them in during the processUpdateModel(). Of course, most of the validation ended up in the processUpdateModel(), with none in the Entity.
b) Where are those values going if they are placed into the bindings as they can't be examined later after processUpdateModel?
Here's a method stub that we used to show values...
