Mauled by leopard - serious problems - can anyone solev this?
I installed leopard on my powerbook G4 - encountered no problems whatsoever. So I decided to install on the G5 Quad as well. All seemed to go well. Then I tried to begin working in Final Cut Pro with the raid array and kept getting the multilingual shut down instruction. After a lot of investigation it appears that the sonnet card is not compatible with leopard on non-intel macs. So - no problem I thought (HA!) I can work with tiger for now. Afterall, I have been working with it for all this time....
I tried to install from my Tiger installation disc - no way! As soon as the disc begins to be read I get a kernel crash. I have all my data backed up so I decided to erase the G5 disc and then install from the tiger disc - now this i do not understand - I STILL get the kernel crash. I tested the tiger installation disc in the G4 - it appeared to allow installation (explain that one!) onto an external firewire disc. So then I tried starting the G5 in target mode and installing from the G4. An hour goes by, the installation seems to be working.... eventually I restart the G5 STILL there is a kernel crash.
I can't remember exactly how I managed to set the start up disc to be another external firewire with 10.4.10 on it but I did and guess what the G5 starts from it, but I do not have any of my applications on there - a bit of a problem!
Anyway to cut a very long story short I got most of my applications back on there and came to restart.... the chime sounds then a black screen with what I assume is unix stuff saying there is no master password. While I am trying to work out just what to do the fan goes into overdrive and I feel compelled to shut down.
Currenty I am trying to restore the external firewire disc to the G5 internal hoping I can at least start the computer again.
So does anyone really know what happens when leopard is installed? it seems to have affected my logic board or something - I'm not a computer technician -
Is there any way to get a really really clean disc that will allow me to reinstall tiger on the G5 from the installation DVD?
It seems to me that Apple really ought to be able to provide a way to get back to tiger after people have been mauled by leopard. There are so many peole having really serious probems with leopard having messed their machines up because it alters things so deeply.
There have been some posts suggesting a bad batch of DVDs. I noted that the leopard install DVD appears to be dual layer. (it has more than 6Gb on it) Now my G4 dvd drive does not support dual layer DVDs but the install disc worked fine - does this mean some fancy tricks with the DVD itself that somehow make it work in drives that 'should' not support it?
Anyway... ANYONE with ANY suggestions as to how to resolve my (admittedly) complex problem will be much appreciated.

Some things to try...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
I think we can get Screen Sharing working also.

I have reinstalled the software, all the CS4 programs work fine and Premiere Pro does too apart from the problem that when I export, it gives me the menu to choose the output format, the location to save to etc etc. I then click export and the media encoder doesnt open.

I didn't say anything about installing web browsers. I said to be sure not to have anything open when you run the CS4 installer--particularly web browsers--as they frequently result in failed installations. Adobe has acknowledged this but done nothing to fix the situation presently. It does not sound like this is the problem, however.
Is it possible that cleaning the scripts has effected the copy of CS4 MC I had on my hard drive? If I delete the copy and try putting it onto my PC again it will remedy those problems? It doesnt seem to like anything about the copy of CS4 I have now, and before this incident I reinstalled it maybe 4 times for various reasons without any problems?
I think you're getting confused. We're not talking about "cleaning the scripts"... we're talking about a script provided by Adobe that is supposed to wipe all traces of a previous installation of the CS4 suite, that were not removed during a standard uninstallation routine. If you tried running the Clean Script while you still had CS4 installed, chances are fairly high that you've created more problems for yourself. The Clean Script should only be run after a complete uninstallation, and from the sounds of it, you did not do this. I'm assuming you're running Windows; you need to go to your Control Panel, and use Add/Remove Programs or Uninstall a Program (depending on your Windows version) and uninstall the CS4 suite. If it doesn't show up in the list of installed programs, you've got bigger problems, because now parts of the suite are still present on your system, but there is no way for the uninstaller to remove them. The Clean Script--run properly--might help, but I can't say for sure. At this point, your only recourse might be a complete wipe of the computer, operating system and everything, and start over from scratch. Not good news, I realize, but the CS4 suite is a massive set of programs that sends out tendrils deep into many parts of your hard drive, and it can't simply be deleted like a file. -
Hi all, I upgraded my MBP to Lion , but on the screen where i need to type my password, click on my photo and it does not appear the place for me to type my password and it stay stuck there. Can anyone solve this problem for me?
Reboot the machine holding Command and r keys down, you'll boot into Lion Recovery Partition
In there will be Disk Utility, use that to select your Lion OS X Partition and Repair Permissions.
After that is done reboot the machine and see if you can log in.
If not repeat the above steps to get into Lion Recovery, get online and reinstall Lion again, it will overwrite the installed version and hopefully after that it wil work.
Reboot and try again.
If not follow my steps to create a Snow Leopard Data Recovery drive, then option boot from it and grab a copy of your files off the machine.
Then reinstall all your programs onto the external drive like setting up a new machine, then use Disk Utility to erase the entire internal boot drive (select the drive media on the far left, not the partiton slightly indented) format Option: GUID , 1 partition OS X Extended and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external to the newly formatted internal drive. Once that is finished reboot and disconnect the external drive.
Once you go that, boot into Snow Leopard and update to 10.6.8, use the AppStore and option click on Purchases and download Lion again and install.
Lots of work, but there is no Lion disks.

ONLY the carrier an iPhone is locked to can legitimately unlock it.
IF your receipt says that it was supposed to be unlocked, and it is not, call AppleCare. They should be able to straighten it out. -
The trashcan is not showing up in the right hand corner of my photos on my iPad. So I can't delete pictures. Can anyone solve this problem?
Where did the photos come from ? Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - photos that were synced from your computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing.

deggie gave you that link so you'd know that airprint is a reduced-options print system, designed for mobile devices (not Macs), and you need to use the specific airprint driver on the Mac when adding the printer if you want Airprint, no-options printing. Otherwise, select the "non-airprint" driver when you add the printer.
It may be helpful to Reset the Printing System to get OS X to find the right driver.

Have an iphone 5c 8g. The home button has stopped working. Did the same a few months ago and recovered 24hrs later. Can anyone explain this problem. Phone still in warranty. Had steam issue recently but this was after last home button episode and no evidence of damage.
If you are playing in hockey arenas a lot or if you are bringing it into bathroom same time as shower it may not seem like much but overtime the steam can acquire and build up in the phones usb dock flex cable swell as the home button flex cable. Bring again into apple store and should be covered under warranty again. could also be a delay in a 8gb 5c software may just be very lag.

I have a JSF application with a page that has a tab set.
On one of the tabs I have a panel with company information.
One of the components on the page is an InputText field with the value bound to a session bean variable.
The tab also has an Add button.
Here is what the JSP looks like for the input text and button components

This is all plain vanilla stuff and I would expect that when the Add button is pushed, the session bean property would be filled with
the value entered in the input text field.
In the java code for the page, I have a method to process the Add button push.
Originally, it just called a method in the session bean to check that a value was entered in the input text field by checking the bound
session bean property.
For some reason, that was not getting filled and I was getting either a null or empty string rather than the value in the text field.
I added some checking in the method that processes the Add button push so I could check the values in the debugger.
Here is a sample of that code:

Can anyone expain this behavior, and, most important, how can I force the values to be present when the Add button is pushed.
I have never experienced this problem before, and have no clue what is causing it.
Thanks.Basically, the component bindings are just being used in plain vanilla get/set modes.
I set them to "" when I do a clear for the fields and they are set to a value via the text field.
No other action other than to read the values via get to insert them into the database.
And, I always use the get/set methods rather than just setting the value directly.
This is what is so strange about this behavior - I have created dozens of database add/update/delete pages using this same model and have not had a problem with them - even in a tab context.
Not a clue why this one is different.
I did notice that I had an error on the page (in IE7, you get a small triangle warning sign when something is not right).
I figured that might be the problem - maybe buggering up the rendering process.
I tracked that down and do not get that anymore (it had to do with the PDF display I was trying to get working a while back), but that did not resolve the problem.
I don't think there are any tab conflicts - none of the components are shared between tabs, but I will see what happens when I move a couple of the components out of the tab context.
I noticed that it seems to skip a cycle. Here is what I can do.
1) Fill in text fields and add a record - works fine the first time.
2) Clear the text fields
3) Enter new data in the text fields and push Add
4) I get an error saying fields are blank from my data check process.
5) Enter new data and push Add - the record is added with the new data.
My work around is to not enter data in step 3 and just accept the error message in step 4, then go ahead and enter the real data in step 5.
Very ugly, but it works every time. -

My iMac's been absolutely fine since I bought it. The Lion upgrade was smooth. I upgraded on the first day Lion became available.
In the past week, I keep getting every other day a progressive gray screen and a warning that the computer needs to restart. I've no idea what's causing the crash... it happens when I have the standard suite of apps running (Mail, iTunes, Safari, etc) so no exotic application.

Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to time capsule - The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/Alyson’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use.The explanation is a long standing bug in Lion and Mountain Lion, but what you might really be asking is how to fix the problem.
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a few minutes
Plug the power cord back in
If that does not fix the problem you will need to dig deeper. See #C12 in Pondini's excellent Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
