Maverick and Mail

I just installed Maverick and I can't get Mail to open a viewer window. cmd opt N doesn't work, neither does the pull down menu option. (Terrible start Apple!)

I don't suppose it's already running? Try force quit just to see if it's running.

Aha. You mean "an email message won't open", not "the Mail app won't open"?
Do you have "Use classic layout" checked or unchecked in Mail > Preferences > General?
Is it possible you have minimized the preview pane to a tiny sliver at the bottom or right and just don't see the messages there?

  • I upgraded my MacBook Pro to OS Maverick, and mail will get stuck trying to upgrade...

    Hello,
I just recently became a Mac user, everything has been great so far with the exception of upgrading to OS Maverick. My mail client will no longer function. It appears to attempt to open, or update, but it doesn't fully open. I restart and the same thing happens.
    Thanks in advance!

  • HT6065 Mavericks and Mail Contact Groups

Fixes an issue that prevented contact groups from working properly in Mail?
No it doesn't - unless you ask Apple Care how.
I had to have a lengthy session with a Senior Advisor to sort out this and for the record this is what was subsequently sent to me, which resolved the issue, but not everyone may be aware of the solution as stipulated below.
'Upon checking the issue with the engineering team, it seems the issue should be resolved but the feature of emailing a group of contacts has changed.
There are several ways to send a email to one your groups. I have put them in the preferred order.
    1) Type the name of the contact group into the "To field" of the email. i,e Group Name "NHW" - Type this into the "To" field. This should allow you to send a email to everyone in this group.
    2) Right click on the group name inside "contacts" then choose the option "Send Email to Group Name".
    3) Copy and paste the list of contacts from the group and paste them into the 'To" field in Mail.'
    Hope this helps

Hi - I saw this reply from someone else wiht the same question ... its not perfect, but its a BIG step forward.
I had the same problem this morning.  Here's what APPLE help said:
Open Address Book from the Dock
Hold down CTRL key and then click on your group.
The option to "send email"  or "export...." should be there and click on it.  A new email will appear with your group names.
If you have "right click" enabled, open Address Book, and right click on your Group.  The same window "export or send email" should appear.  Click on send email.
Hope that works for you.  It helped me.

  • Maverick and mail - it doesn't work.

All my e-mail accounts (gmail) won't sync any more. Can somebody help me with this?

    Welcome to the discussions, guidow.
You're absolutely right, IE IS a total waste of time due to it's poor handling of graphics. Unfortunately, if a site is meant to be viewed by the largest audience, that's going to include a LOT of IE users.
First, what version of IE are you using? Is it version 6 or much older? Also, do you have Java turned off? Either of these can affect how you (and, by extension, your viewers) are able to see the site. Essentially, IE is very bad at displaying PNG images with a transparent layer so a workaround was devised to force IE to display them properly. This requires a script to run as soon as all the images are loaded and, if Java is off, the script won't run. This should, however, leave your images looking like each one is behind a grey window, so perhaps there's something more here.
The solution is to convert your images to .jpg's before placing them on your site and then ensuring that they are placed with no resizing.
BTW, like the layout of the site. I'll take another look at it with IE when I get to work.

Problem with replies in Maverick's mail.  Originating emails send fine.  When replying to an email (various addresses) the reply is hung up and can not be sent.  Option becomes put in draft, delete, etc.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  Mid 2013 iMac.

I don't know how rare this is.  I went a week or so without a problem, and now it's starting to recur.  Also, in some instances, an email will look unsent (remain in the outbox on the Treo), but it has been sent, and recipients are replying while I'm trying to figure out what is going on.  Further, it will send the same email over and over during this madness.
This is a show stopper.  If there isn't a software fix soon, I may chuck this phone in the garbage.
Post relates to: Treo 800w (Sprint)
UPDATE:  The problem comes and goes.  The next day, no changes to the treo, everything workeds.  Now i'm suspecting the sprint server, and how it/the phone responds from failing to send while roaming.  I've since turned off roaming, and haven't had a problem for several days.

Apple doesn't create installation disks for OSX 10.7 and later. You can create your own disk/USB bootable installer, but this requires downloading the installation package from the app store first.
    1) Make sure you have a stable internet connection. Try directly connecting via ethernet port, versus Wifi, if you are experiencing a weak Wifi Signal or intermediate loss of connectivity
    2) From the App Store, go to the Menu Bar, Store > Sign out.
    3) Navigate to the /Applications folder and drag the partially completed download of the installer to the trash.
    4) Open the App store, sign back in, and redownload Mavericks.

  • Preferences pane and Mail crash when I access accounts in Mavericks

Mail won't work on my iMac all of a sudden. Initially it just failed to launch and had to be force quit. I managed to reset Mail and it launches but doesn't do anything - no accounts showing up. (Before this happened, smart mailboxes stopped working).
If I try to delete my iCloud accounts the preferences pane freezes when I click on iCloud (and, bizarrely, my bluetooth keyboard stops working - has to be disconnected and reconnected)
Messages also needs to be force quit - so it seems like an iCloud issue.
I'm trying to delete my iCloud account from the iMac to start again, after reading somewhere that this might be the solution, or it was something to do with iCloud keychain.
I restarted my Mac in safe mode, but the problem still occurs: spinning beach ball when I go to the preference pane.
I can access email on my Macbook Air (also running Mavericks) and on iOS devices.
Resetting Mail did not work. Removing extensions did not work.
    Any suggestions gratefully received!

I have a similar problem. Although, for me, Mail doesn't crash. I have two email accounts; Yahoo and Gmail. My experience is that Mail will pick up my new emails from Gmail, but not Yahoo.

Sounds like your phone has the jitters.
This is sometimes caused when a DLL fle is missing when you restore, so the ipsw pacakge wasn't installed corectly.
You could back up and restore, but if it doesn't help go to http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ and then download the same firmware your on.
Open up iTunes and hold Shift+Restore and select that firmware, you can't use anoy ther firmwares though.
    Hope this helped
