Mavericks 10.9.1 Issues!

Hello,
I installed the update to OS X 10.9.1 and ran into problems: opening the Mail app took me more than ten attempts, where the app would crash due to some proble with "Open CL". Same with Messages.
After restarting, the desktop started flashing between my desktop image and plain gray. The computer became unresponsive.
Finally, the fans began turning at high speed and drained my battery.
Similar annoyances anyone?

This update resets all accounts so you get prompted to log in to iCloud (or skip it as I do).  When I would change to an account for the first time after the update, I got black and grey bars on the screen, but nothing else.  If I hit Cmd-Q, the iCloud prompt would popup, but the beach ball would be displayed and I eventually had to reboot the machine.  The next login for that particular account went okay as it didn't prompt again.  Four reboots later...all the accounts are working again.
Shutdown/restart takes two minutes here...even if I just booted up the machine.
Lot of weirdness with 10.9.1.
Cheers, Patrick

If restarting did not resolve the issue, open Mail Preferences and make sure the box next to "Play sounds for other mail actions" is checked.

  • Mavericks 10.9.4 Issues

I have a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro with a 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo processor, 4 GB of memory, and a 250 GB hard drive.  Although my computer is getting older I was not having any problems with it until I downloaded the Mavericks 10.9.4 software package recently because the constant update requests were getting annoying (stupid reason for an update I know).  Anyways, I almost immediately noticed my computer running slower, especially with either streaming or playing a movie from the disk drive.  Being a novice computer person, I have done some preliminary searching and self-diagnostics and see that even when I am not using Safari or playing a movie I am running at just below 3 GB of my 4 GB RAM total.  Again, I only started having problems after the update.  I guess I have multiple questions:
    1.  What is an ideal amount of RAM memory I should be using for casual computer usage like internet browsing or movies? (is 3 out of the 4 GB too much stress on the computer for constant use?)
    2.  What are ways I can cut down on the amount of RAM I am using at a given time?
    3.  I have seen a lot on the message boards about this being a Mavericks issue, does anyone think this is a temporary issue (until a further update) or is there something wrong with my current memory set up?
    4.  Is there a way to un-update my software back to Mountain Lion if I did not have a time capsule update saved before the software update? (Yes I know, that would have been a smart thing to do)
    5.  For future reference does anyone know if there is a way to push off the computer constantly asking to install new updates and let me set that schedule myself?
Also I have included the results from my EtreCheck if that helps anyone, I cannot make much of the results right now but I am going to continue looking to see if I can decipher what is happening:

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Macbook Pro running Mavericks. Multiple display issue

I didn't have this problem running OS X Mountain Lion but now that I have upgraded to Mavericks the display on my second monitor (an HD TV) is too large for the screen and no resolution changes from the display menu have any effect
To be clear, the issue seems to be that the detected screen is larger than the actual monitor causing the edges of the display to be cut off. This is most evident in full screen mode as it cuts off things such as video action bars from view and the tabs from the top of browser search windows (especially annoying with browser windows as it also hides from view the minimize button).
Is there any way to adjust the screen size in OS X Mavericks as changing the resolution does nothing. Any help much appreciated.

I should also add that it has the problem where when it goes to sleep it's 50/50 as to whether it will wake up or not. If I click 'put hard disks to sleep when possible', it wakes up fine, but I don't like doing this.

  • Mavericks custom page sizes issue when printing

Does anybody have a solution to why my custom page sizes are scaling my print jobs even though it is set not too?
This issue has only occurred since i updated to mavericks 10.9.3. The page setups were the same ones i previously used without problem.
    Default page setups work correctly.
I have tried recreating each custom page size but still have the same problem.
I print mostly using adobe acrobat or adobe indesign. using indd files or pdf's
I have installed all latest drivers and updates for my peripherals in case that was an issue. But no solution.
If i cant sort a solution for this issue im gonna have to revert back and i dont want to do that.

  • SINCE UPDATING TO OSX MAVERICKS I HAVE SOME ISSUES..PLS ADVISE

First thing i noticed,is that swiping between pages in LAUNCHPAD is unresponsive, sometimes i just CAN'T swipe to other page...THIS IS KIND of a HUGE DEAL...WHY????? I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH TRACKPAD?(scrolling in safari, swiping in other apps, going to mission control is without any problem, that's why its so weird...It just wont work in LAUNCHPAD)
Second problem,in my launchpad appeared an icon called READ ME UPDATE right after updating to OSX MAVERICKS....Thing is,i cant open it,i cant delete it,i cant do anything with it...WHATS HAPPENING??
And my LAST issue is also very ironic, because MAVERICKS promised better power management, but so far, whatever app i open and use,my FAN goes like crazy, from my totally silent MACBOOK became a HOWLING MONSTER...(this issue also came up right after updating to MAVERICKS,i didnt download anything after this update, just to be clear that no viruses could have gotten into my Mac by my fault)
    Apple PLEASE DO SOMETHING..
So far updating to OSX MAVERICKS only brought issues to my,MacBook Air i NEVER HAD...
    PLEASE ADVISE SOMEONE

To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following.
EtreCheck will not fix anything, but it will provide additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will be in your Downloads folder. Open it from there. You may see the following dialog box:
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or "failed".
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.

  • Mavericks Dell Monitor Sleep Issue

Has anyone seen this issue; I use my Dell monitor as my main monitor and the laptop is my second screen. When the MacBook Pro goes to sleep and then wakes up that the app windows get shuffled. For example, I have a browser window maximized on the laptop and I have a couple windows open on the Dell. I put the mac to sleep and I see that my Dell monitor goes to a sleep mode. Then I wake the mac up after a few minutes. Now I see all my app windows shuffled and showing on the top left corner of my Dell monitor. This started when I upgraded to Mavericks (I have done a fresh install and tried it on another MacBook Pro). Never had this issue before with other versions. Any help would be appreciated.

    Update to my post above.
I looked in other forums and found this instructions below. It worked on my work laptop, but not on my home laptop.
Let's begin with what's called an SMC reset.
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time. If we do this correctly, literally nothing should happen, the computer should NOT turn on.
    5. Wait 5 seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Test out the system to see if issue is resolved. If not working, proceed to the next steps for resetting our PRAM.
    1. Locate: Command, Option, P and R.
    2. Turn off the computer.
    3. Turn on computer.
    4. Press and hold the above buttons before the gray screen.
    5. Hold these keys until the second start up chime.
    6. Release keys. (If you hear a third chime, that's okay!) Then let the computer reboot.

  • MACBOOK PRO 2010-Mavericks - Fusion 6 Performance Issue

I recently upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks and Fusion3.0 to Fusion 6.0.2. I had Performance no issues with Lion or Fusion 3.
NOW with MAVERICKS and Fusion 6 WIDOWS XP  has been rendered useless . Once Windowsa boots up the CPU is pegged @ 100% and if I attempt to launch any program the MAC MEMORY drops below 1GB and keeps falling . I have Fusion 6 set to HW VER 10 ; 1 core processor and 1024 Memory. The APPNAP box that appears in GETINFO is Checked..
I have an appointment at the GENIUS Bar on Saturday and of course Fusion wants 29.95 for TECH Support which may or not solve the issue . Any thoughts we be appreciated

The issue that was identified :  Macafee provided by FUSION 6 Tools  was in continual loop on XP and eating CPU and pulling memory beyond the allocated VM setting (1024MB) . Thus it was draining the MAC memory below 1 GB

  • Pre-Mavericks to Post-Mavericks iPhoto backup Restoring Issues

A few months ago, I wiped my hard drive on my 2009 Macbook and installed Mavericks.  Now I cannot restore my iPhoto library from the pre-mavericks time machine backup.  Is there a workaround or have i just lost several years of photos?

Why can't you restore the old backup? (remember we only know what you tell us - we can not see you or your computer)
Basically you need to install iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x and restore the iPhoto library and then convert it to the new iPhoto format - if the old library is from iPhoto '08 (version 7.x.x) or earlier you must first download and run the iPhoto library upgraded and then launch iPhoto to finish the conversion - if the old library is from iPhoto '09 or '11 simply put it in the pictures folder an launch iphoto

  • Is there any work-around in Mavericks for DVD burning issue's

Ever since I installed the updated OX I get errors and problems burning disc's ( with my external Sony and OWC DVD burner's. Sometime's it freezes in the middle of burning and other times it hangs by the verification process. Even using Apple's own internal burner give's me these issue's. Even aborting the burn after it hangs is problematic. I usually have to turn off the burner and then on again and eject the disc . I use the latest version of Toast but have tried with Mac's own burning option. It makes no difference, both ways aren't working for me. In Bootcamp while trying to burn (on PC) side. The computer keeps crashing. I have had this experiance on my iMac and Mac Book Pro both early 2011.

    Hi Pavan,
I am assuming you want to persist some intermediate values from a process XSLT invocation to another process XSLT invocation in BPEL.
An approach to persist variables in XSLT could be to persist them the target variable itself (in an optional section):
<li>This can be achieved by having an additional root element and mandatory element (say, data), having the actual schema and an optional complex type element (say, parameters, which would in turn consist of 2 elements name and value and maybe, if needed, type) attached to both the source and target schemas.
<li>whatever variable you would want to persist, you can append it in the XSLT to the target variable,as children of parameters node.
<li>Whenever, you want to invoke a partner link, you can have an assignment before invoking, which would assign the actual schema data (from element data) to the input variable of the invoke.
As there is no inbuilt solution for this, things could get messy.
    Regards,
    Shanmu.

That Mavericks has been nothing but troubles and headaches for me.

  • Mavericks Calendar Exchange sync issue

I'm running OS X Mavericks and I'm having trouble syncing my calendar via Exchange. I keep getting an error message "Calendar can't connect to the account "my email account"". What is strange is that my emails are working fine. I have tried numerous times to re-enter my password but it's not working.
    Appreciate your help.

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock all your user files, reset their ownership, and remove their access-control lists. If you've set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Back up all data.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Updated latest update for maverick and am having issues

i updated this past weekend to the latest update for Mavericks. and cannot get past the system setting up screen. what can i do to get past this?

apologizes, the mac is intel, and the update was downloaded from apple. as I recall it asked me if I wanted to setup icloud, and I clicked later. then it started saying "setting your mac up.....".I let it go for a while, two times, thinking it needed more time. it did not take me to the desktop at all.
I just read  a discussion about reinstalling mavericks to repair what might have a snag. i also have a call into apple later when i get home.
can you elaborate on reinstalling the mavericks, for repair, without erasing the drive?

I updated to Mavericks a few days ago on my iMac after having Snow Leopard. When I opened up my calendar, as it went to sync with the iCloud it came up with 'Moving Calendars to Server Account and that's been on for the past couple of days.
I tried force closing it and restarting the computer and that didn't work so I'm out of ideas. Any support would be really appreciated!!
    Thanks!!

    Thanks oliverleonidas,
I did actually find this out late last night. The problem now is that I have lost all my iCal entries, as was warned by the iCloud god.
So next step is to get that info back if I can.
I have all entries still on my iPhone and am a little worried about conecting it to the MacBook.
Let me know if you have any ideas on that little saga.
Thanks for getting back to me. Much appreciated.
