Mavericks: Can I stop these heavy handed tactics?

Can I stop Apple's/Mavericks' heavy handed tactics when it comes to sofware updates? I am annoyed. Here is what I am talking about.
I think I have the right to decide if, and when, I install an update without being harrassed. I am not concerned abou the Time Machine nag partially depicted because I can simply dismiss it.

The only way to avoid these updates is to actually perform the requested update.
However, you can work around the problem. Make sure to archive the software you currently have. That is always a good idea, by the way, even with the Mac App Store. Then, perform the update. Next, copy the new version of the software that you don't want (let's call it "Pages") to some obscure place on your hard drive or permanently connected volume. Now, use LauncPad to officially delete the software. Finally, copy the old version into /Applications.
Since the old version has the correct receipt, it will work normally. Since the new version is on the hard drive, you will no longer be nagged about updating. The old version is in LaunchPad so that is the one you will launch. If necessary, you can set your document types to only open with the old version.

One of my ex-colleagues has installed a NI-DAQ 6.5 in our system. [And I do not see any other naitional instruments card in the CPU of the computer, may be he removed it] I deleted the account and all his files in the system. When I am trying to install version8.0, its not getting installed and giving me a message that I should uninstall the previous version by going to Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
I tried doing that, but the "Change/Remove" button does not seem to work...[There is no response and so unable to install the new version...]
Any idea how can this problem be solved?
It is a windowsXP operating system with SP2 installed on a machine with P4 processor.

We will need more information to be able to assist you.
These message yoy are receiving are probably just a particular type of spam. However it is also possible (unlikely) that your email account is being used to send spam, and that these are the bounce messages.
To tell the difference, you need to look at the email headers. Open the message, then go to the View menu and select Message -> All Headers.
Select the text and post it back here (remembering to obscure your own email address first).

How can I stop these weird inert file images from appearing on my desktop?

Inert file images keep appearing and cluttering up my desktop with names such as: 3FV2JEQy.JPG.part; 9wA_fwAk.JPG.part; MpxSEQgY.jpg.part etc.
It seems to me that they are related to viewing photos from emails with "Preview". (They could be photos from iPhoto also. I cannot be certain).
My desktop fills up with these weird inert file images and I have to go thru and delete them to clear the mess on my desktop. How can I stop this from occurring??

Strange Files Appear on Desktop and I Have No Idea Why or What They Do

Several times a month, when I go to open Firefox, it says "wait installing new updates". After they are installed, Firefox won't open, it says "page not found." I have to then reload Firefox. How can I stop these updates?

Before Firefox open the little window opens saying"wait installing new updates." Then after when opening Firefox, my home page says "can't find this page. I have plugged in the address: http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official and it Firefox still won't open. I have to run the Firefox setup 3.6.3 on my desktop, to get Firefox to open on my home page. I would like to stop these automatic Updates from running; how?

Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

How can I stop these update notices?

I keep getting told that there are software updates, but when I go there, it is something I don't need. For example, I keep getting told that there is a digital camera RAW compatibility update. I don't need this, as I don't even have a digital camera. However, if I don't update, it just keeps telling me, so I just update and it goes away, for a while.
I used to be able to stop this by setting the system to ignore these updates, but it seems I can no longer do that. Is there anything I can do about it?

The OP may have his Software Update setting in System Preferences set to automatically check for updates.
Advice to OP, accept the software updates if you want your system to continue running well.

2008 R2 Printer Event ID 372 - Print Job Still Prints I Can't Stop These Errors From Occuring

I keep getting the following error 372 on one of my DC's that runs the network printers. As it says on the bottom of the error the page prints just fine but I can't get it to stop and I can't find a reason for this to happen. I have 5 identical
servers in a site based forest and this is the only server I have getting these errors. I can not find any difference in software versions, configs or security. Everything is setup using x86/64 drivers and is deployed via GPO.
The document Untitled1, owned by wa-material, failed to print on printer wa-rec1-053. Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.
Data type: IMF.
Size of the spool file in bytes: 34080.
Number of bytes printed: 34080.
Total number of pages in the document: 1.
Number of pages printed: 0.
Client computer: WA-DOCK. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 0. The operation completed successfully.
This same server also had an odd problem with access denied issues to our 2008 terminal servers. I had to use this article to give extra permissions to Domain\Users on the printer spool directory in order for it work.

Regarding the error you received, it can be caused by one of the following factors.
The printer is not reachable on the network
Windows cannot allocate sufficient memory
There was invalid or incomplete data received by the print spooler
A driver upgrade failed
There is a bad printer device driver

I've started getting pop-under ads every time I launch Firefox, and the uninstall instructions don't make sense, how can I stop these?

In the past couple of weeks, every time I launch Firefox, a full-size pop-under ad is also launched, regardless of what site I'm browsing.
The original ad was for a You Tube survey, and contains a link to coupondropdown.com, where there's a menu option for uninstalling. The uninstall instructions don't make sense, they don't mention what ad-on is controlling the ads, and I can't work out what's responsible for the ads from my very basic range of ad-ons.
The reason I'm writing is that the ads have progressed from annoying but harmless, to dangerous. The ad today was designed as a warning pop-up, text reads, "Threat Detected: Immediate Action Required. Fatal Registry Error ... click "Repair All" to eliminate all possible threats and clean your PC". I have screenshots of all the above.
I'm worried that another user, my son or mother, might take this warning seriously and install malware by accident. What can I do to prevent these ads? I expect this type of malware advertising on dodgy websites, but I'm getting them when I try to access hotmail, the news, etc, so it's not the website that's causing them.

Found the source using Microsoft Safety Scanner on a full scan. The culprit was a Trojan:Win32/Sirefef!cfg

Can I Stop These Timeouts?

Hi, I'm new to Automater. Actually I've just created my first successful workflow. Well, kinda successful. Here it is:
1) Get Selected Finder Items
2) Remane Finder Items
3) Open (PSCS2)
4) Change Resolution
5) Render (Simple Save)
Well, I'm executing this workflow on some 70ish meg files and it often craps out somewhere in the "Render" phase. Its like somethings not going fast enough and it times out. Here's the message I get:
Adobe Photoshop CS2 got an error: General Photoshop error occurred.
- Could not save “lores-DISCOVER_bk/silver.TIF” because the file is already in use or was left open. (8800)
My sized image is just left open in Photoshop and the workflow stops.
Is there anyway I can get it to just wait a second during this "Render" phase?

You need to remove the / from the filename. It's a reserved character in some apps. Try replacing it with a : character, that way it might even get displayed as / in Finder (if you're lucky).
However a : character might also give the same error, if it doesn't work you'll just need to use something else.
If you're wondering what's going on, basically in Mac OS 9 : was reserved for internal use, and in Mac OS X / is the character used for the same thing (windows uses \ by the way). In order to assist porting classic apps to OS X, apple decided to have the OS auto-convert : to / and / to : depending on what app is running and a few other things, it's all rather confusing but basically you usually can't use one of them (and sometimes you can't use any of the two).

I'm seeing lot of these errors on my 4006s, I know it is multicast mac address being the source address. CCO doesn't give enough information to troubleshoot this. Can anyone help?

Enabling multicast or an RP won't help because, ultimately, the switch is complaining because it sees a frame with a src multicast MAC address as invalid.
I have seen cases where certain types of applications that communicate with other nodes (load balancers, firewalls, server clustering, etc.) will send heartbeats or hellos using a multicast source address.
If you have such devices in your network, you may want to check there. I did a search on the MAC address you referenced, but could not find anything that points to a specific application or vendor.

I am so frustrated and can't get Apple to help. I have charges on my bank statement for Apple ITunes and they occur every day or so. I've removed my credit card number but they continue. How can I stop these? My bank says I have to contact apple.

Go to the Apple menu (top left), and then system preferences. Go to users and groups. Find your user down the left and then go to the 'Login items' tab. Click messages in that list, and then click the little minus icon below the text that says...
"To hide an application when you log in, etc etc..."
