Mavericks Mail-cannot scroll down to select a group by holding mouse button.

I do not like the new Mavericks mail. When I attempt to hold the left mouse button and scroll down to select a group, the program automatically locks onto the first message I touch and moves it. Prior to Mavericks scrolling was an easy process. This new mail is very clumsy and I have to select one message, then hold shift key, then selelct the last message in the group. ....Clumsy and slow.
Does anyone know a workaround for this? The tutorials don't address it and the "What's new in Mail?" file doesn't either. If there is not a workaround, is there a way to disable the Mavericks configuration in Mail and go back to regular mail? I'd appreciate any tips or help on this.

Okay, I tried deleting the Finder preferences first (along with a handful of other preference files that I knew were no longer needed), and it seemed to help--at first. But eventually, all the same problems started happening again, so I concluded that it was necessary to just start with a fresh (empty) preferences folder. As you know, this is a pain to deal with, but I limited my pain by moving all the old preferences files into a folder on the Desktop rather than simply deleting them. That way, I could just put back any missing preferences that were too hard to recreate. Restoring all of my preferences with new (uncorrupted) prefs files will be an ongoing process, but the good news is that this effort (so far) seems to have solved the problem. Mail is responding to all my clicks, even when I switch between different apps and different spaces. :-)
Now that things are working correctly, I notice that when I switch between apps and/or spaces, the selected app (or the frontmost app in the new space) will show an active state for its window, whereas before, the selected app didn't update to show that it was active--it kept the inactive state for its window. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that this might have something to do with the windowserver process, so it might make sense for the next person who stumbles on this thread to start by deleting any preferences files that begin with com.apple.windowserver. Just a hunch, but it's worth starting there before you do a complete flush of all your preferences.

Bookmarks menu will not scroll down or select sub-folder

When I select <Bookmark this page>, the Bookmark menu pop-up appears and I can see the see the many sub-folders of bookmarks that I have but I cannot scroll down the list nor select a specific sub-folder.
I am running FF v 8.x on Windows 7. The bookmarks were restored from a .json file generated on an earlier FF version running under XP. On the Bookmarks "sidebar" I can select any sub-folder or bookmark.
To re-iterate, I cannot select bookmark menu sub-folders when attempting to add a new bookmark.

After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

First off, try triple clicking the home button.
To scroll use three fingers and I think you have to double tap to get into something.
Go to Settings>General>Accessability>Voiceover and then turn that off.

Hmm. The problem still may be the RAM - Apple buys the RAM it puts in its machines from third-party vendors (usually Hynix) so it could be a RAM problem.
There are a couple of things that you can do yourself before taking your machine into an Apple Store or an AASP... download and run an application named Rember that will run a RAM test for you - let it run for a couple of hours or even overnight. If it turns out that your RAM is faulty, Rember will let you know. If it is faulty, then you have a couple of options - replace the RAM yourself or (particularly if you're under warranty still) take the machine to an Apple Store or AASP and have them replace the RAM.
If Rember finds no fault with the RAM, then you'll need to take it into an Apple Store/AASP and get a free diagnosis on the machine. Three beeps do usually indicate faulty RAM, but if it tests good with Rember you likely have another problem - it could be something as simple as the RAM, somehow, not seated correctly or signs of another hardware problem.
Run Rember first... call back with results.

Previously, I was able to type part of a word and all of my prior searches would be listed, such that I was able to scroll down and select it. Now I cannot. Why

It's quite simple. A very useful feature in Firefox had been typing a search item into the white box on Mozilla's start page, where it would remain for a long while. I then would be able to just type in a few letters of the prior search to see it listed below, where I could tab down and select it. Very useful when you search a topic multiple times, or over several days (or longer). A great time saver, and memory assistant.
Two weeks ago, my desktop computer suddenly stopped doing that, and instead began listing suggested searches, and stopped displaying any of my prior searches, regardless of topic. The look of the font also changed in the bargain.
Then today, my laptop did the same thing for no apparent reason. All of those earlier search topics are just Gone. I am forced to recall them from memory, or go through the initial canvasing I did to find them in the first place: a great time waster.
Both computers have Windows-7. The laptop 32-bit home and the desktop 64-bit professional.
What happened to my search topics, and how can I reset it back the way it was? Also, why am I getting Google-like prompts for topics instead of what I want? Previously, I did not get anything until I pressed enter to start the search.

In current Firefox releases the search bar on the about:home page and the about:newtab page have an autocomplete=off attribute that prevents Firefox from saving form data and now show search suggestions just like you get on the regular Google search page.

Since installing the latest version I cannot scroll down my pages using the button on the pad on my laptop

I had the old version of Firefox and was invited to install this version when it had finished i went back on line only to find the button on the laptop mouse pad no longer scrolls down the page. I now have to drag it down with the bar at the side.

Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

Wired Mighty Mouse cannot scroll down.

I have had my wired mighty mouse since 2007. Every once in a while the scroll would stop working for a second but once i rolled it around, it would start scrolling again. Now my mouse has not been able to scroll down all day. I have read online that if you roll the scroller around on paper, it will clean the roller and it should start working again. I tried this many times and my mouse is still not functioning. Is there a way to fix this or should i just purchase a new one?

In some websites, the caracters are not clear and impossible to read when I scroll down. I have to pass my mouse over it to clear the caracters.

It started to do that about a year of 2 ago. So I started to use Chrome instead. This morning I'm using Firefox because I saw they upgraded and I thought it would not do that again, but the problem is the same.
I open a website la my Hotmail account. The caracters are clear at this moment. Then, I scroll down, and I cannot read some lines of caracters. And it seems like the problem is sporadic. I added NoSquint, and the problem is the same.

Trouble selecting emails when holding mouse button a fraction too long

I'm setting up a mac mini with Lion installed for an aging friend. When she clicks on a message in Mail she seems to hold the mouse button down a fraction longer than usual and a small image of an envelope appears. The messages does not get selected and therefore does not show up in the preview pane. I'd like to turn off whatever this is or increase the delay time on it. Could you tell me what this is and how to change it?

Take a look at System Preferences > Universal Access > Keyboard tab > Slow Keys
You can also adjust the Acceptance Delay.

HT4061 Ios7.04 update to ipad2. Will not let me continue the set up after trying to join a wifi network. Cannot cancel or start again. Cannot even switch off iPad. If you hold home button it says setup not complete continue? But it will not let me continu

Update to iOS 7.04 on ipad2. The set up screen appears but it will not let me continue the set up. It will not let me get to the next screen after choose wifi network. It is if I am stuck on the choose wifi network page. Cannot cancel or continue. Cannot switch it off. Holding home button brings set up is not complete message. But it won't let me continue. Please help. What else an I try to get through the set up?

Mavericks Mail: Cannot exclude meeting.ics attachments from Smart Mailbox

I'm trying to set up a smart mailbox in Mail (Mavericks 10.9.2) that searches for all email containing attachments, but excludes all meeting invitations (attachments with name = meeting.ics). Sounds simple, but I cannot figure out how to do it.
I've got two filters in the smart mailbox:
Contains Attachments
Any attachment name > does not contain > meeting.ics
Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this?

Tried all the fixes described.
Mac User for >23 years.
More than 30 Macs all types purchased
Never had such a problem as with mail in mavericks.
What a disaster!
First time I have complained about an apple product.
Fix this ASAP.
