Max memory size of timesten database

Hi all
I wanna create a database of 2G-size in timesten. The permanent size is set 1536MB and Temporary Data Size is 512MB.
Following errors occur when connecting.
+837:Cannot attach data store shared-memory segment, error 8+
+703:Subdaemon connect to data store failed with error TT837+
The command failed.
Then I find that the max permanent size is up to 944MB when connecting susscefully.
In addition,the environment is win2003 sever enterprise sp2 32bit, timesten 11.2.1 32bit and 4G memory.
Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately, 32-bit Windows is one of the most limited environments for TimesTen due to the way that Windows manages the process memory map for attached DLLs leading to a very fragmented process memory map.
Note that TimesTen needs to be able to allocate a shared mapping from the paging file of size (PermSize + TempSize + LogBufMB + ~20 MB) and this needs to be able to mapped as a contiguous segment into the address space of all processes connecting in direct mode (such as the sub-daemon).
With PermSize = 944 MB, TempSize = 512 MB and assuming you are using the default of 64 MB for LogBufMB then the total memory requirements for this datastore are ~1540 MB which is pretty much the largest that is likely to be possible on 32-bit Windows. If you need more permSize you should consider reducing te,pSize to compensate. Do not reduce LogBufMB. The default of 64 MB is only suitable for read-mostly applications; if your workload will include a significant percentage of insert/update/delete then you may even need to increase it to get optimal performance.
Note also that even if you mange to load a datastroe that is close to the limit, applications may have problems connecting in direct mode if the application uses a lot of DLLs, or i it is Java with a large heap etc.
Unfortunately, 32-bit Windows is not a great platform in this respect. 64-bit Windows is far superior (when coupled with 64-bit TimesTen) and you do not face these issues due to the mush larger process address space.

Will a server's memory automatically increase from Memory Size to Maximum Memory Size as the VM requires it? Or is this only valid for adding memory to the Memory Size value manually?

The max memory size just specifies the maximum amount to which you can manually adjust the memory of a running VM. I've now taken to setting the max memory size to the total available memory on my Oracle VM Servers, with memory size set to something reasonable. This way, I can adjust right up to the limit of physical memory without rebooting.

  • [Athlon64] K8MM-V - Memory Size

    Hi,
I have a K8MM-V with a AMD Samperon 64bit (3000+) CPU and am wondering  about the max memory size for it.
The website says that it handles 2GB of DDR400.  I have 2x1GB DDR400 chips and the BIOS only sees 1.5GB as does Windows.
The memory have Samsung chips and are of the same time.  What is wrong? Or did I not set something correctly?
Bios is at ver1.3.  The memory is set to AUTO.  So I am not sure what is going on

Memory banks, You know you can get double sided memory modules.
So if you installed a double sided module you could not use dimm slot 2.
Each dimm slot has 2 memory address lines so you can access both sides at the same time and use double sided modules.
    So
    dimm slot 1 = bank 0 and Bank 1
    dimm slot 2 = bank 2 and Bank 3
    dimm slot 3 = bank 4 and Bank 5
Since there are over hundreds types of memory modules and they are using different type of DRAMs to build them, it is very possible that you have purchased a (cheap) memory module which is not compatible with your computer.
For example, there might be 3-4 different types of 128MB memory modules and some computers are very picky and can only support 1 type or 2 types of 128MB memory modules.  If  it is incompatible, then usually you will not be able to boot up your system or you will see frozen screen or system might only recognize half of the memory size. This issue adresses to very low compatibility, because memory maker use several configuration.
Maybe you can try setting memory to "SPD"
Edit here: try using only one stick at a time, if they are reconized alone as 1 GB the problem will remain in the very low compatibility issue, and maybe you want to buy some others ram stick from another chip maker, maybe Geil, or Corsair.

  • TimesTen Memory Size

    Hi
    I have some question.
The following is information on the server using.
    1. Physical memory size : 10GB
    2. Used memory capacity
    OS : 1GB
    Application : 2GB
Currently, 7GB of available capacity, Memory Size Up to TimesTen How far would have to allocate?
What is the recommended value? What is the document(doc number) with recommended value?
    Thank you very much.
    GooGyum

It's not possible to answer this question without a great deal more information. it depends on many factors, the most critical one being 'how much data do you need to store in TiemsTen'? Sicne TimesTen is an in-memory database, all data to be managed by TimesTen must fit into memory at all times. iIf you want to store 4 GB of data in TimesTen then you will typically need to allocate at least 5 GB of memory to TimesTen whereas if you want to store 500 MB of data in TimesTen then you would of course need much less memory. if you are using TimesTen to cache data from Oracle DB then the question is how much data do you need to cache (and what is that data) in order to achieve a good performance improvement, how does that data need to be managed (dyanicm versus static caching, aging, etc.).
So, really you need to approach this from the other direction. Understand what TimesTen does and how it works, see how (if) this fits with what you are trying to achieve. If it does, look at what data you want to hold in memory and use the capacity planning tools to calculate how much memory will be needed. Then choose a machine that has the right hardware resources (CPU, memory and disk) to handle that.

  • MS 6147 max memory and disk sizes

For the MS 6147 can anybody confirm the max Hard disk size and max memory.
It will not recognise the 40Gb HD I am trying to fit, and only recognises half of the 256Mb memeory simm I have fitted.
The BIOS version is 1.9 but I think that is a 'special' by Packard Bell.  The MSI BIOS download site makes no mention of disk problems rectified right up to V1.8 which is the latest, with the exception of one for the ZX chipset only which addresses EDMA 66 problem.
Anybody got a definitive answer on this?

    Supports a maximum memory size of 256MB (8M x 8) or
       512MB (16M x 4) registered DIMM only
how many chips on dimm is what counts with older boards

So it's trying to find or create a TimesTen checkpoint file with the prefix "my_ttdb" in the directory path c:\timesten\database. Does this directory path exist? Or alternatively have you unticked AutoCreate under the First Connection tab in the TimesTen ODBC Setup for this database? If you have unticked this, then TimesTen won't try to automatically create the database if it does not find any already existing checkpoint files, and will return an 833 error.

  • "max-pool-size"   what is it good for?

    SCreator simple CRUD use:
    After a while I get:
" Error in allocating a connection. Cause: In-use connections equal max-pool-size and expired max-wait-time. Cannot allocate more connection"
Which is odd, because its just me using the server/database. It looks like every tiime I run a test, another conection is lost.
Do I have to restart the server? Is there a way to say "its only me, reuse a single connection"
why does "connection pooling" make life harder?
    Can I turn it of?
    cheers

I got the same error in my JSC project. I search for few days and i found the solution. I do a mistake in my page Navigation. I forgot a slash in <to-view-id>.
    A bad example:
    <navigation-rule>
    <from-view-id>/*</from-view-id>
    <navigation-case>
    <from-outcome>page13</from-outcome>
    <to-view-id>page13.jsp</to-view-id>
    </navigation-case>
    A good example:
    <from-view-id>/*</from-view-id>
    <navigation-case>
    <from-outcome>page13</from-outcome>
    <to-view-id>/page13.jsp</to-view-id>
    </navigation-case>
with this mistake, the afterRenderedResponse() was never called, and the ResultRowSet was never closed.

    Hi,
    I am Shanmugavel, SharePoint developer,
I am facing the below SharePoint 2013 deployment issue while deploying using VS2012.
If i will deploy the same wsp or existing wsp
(last build) using direct powershell deployment, the solution adding properly, but the same timeout exception coming while activation the features.  Please find the below error.
    I tried the below activists:
    1. Restarted my dev server, DB server.
    2. tried the same solution id different server
    3. tried existing wsp file (last build version)
    4. Deactivated all the features, including project Active deployment configuration.... but still i am facing the same issue.
I hope this is not coding level issue, because still my code is not start running, before that some problem coming.
Please help me any one.....  Last two days i am struck because of this...

What you need to understand is the installation of a WSP does not do much. It just makes sure that you relevant solution files are deployed to the SharePoint farm.
Next comes the point when you activate the features. It is when the code which you have written to "Activate" certain features for your custom solution.
Regarding the error you are getting, it typically means that you have more connections (default is I guess 100) open for a SQL database then you are allowed to.
If you have a custom database and you are opening a connection, make sure you close it as well.
Look at the similar discussion here:
The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool
    size was reached[^]
I would suggest further to look at the
ULS logs[^] to get better insight.

  • Jdbc sender channel memory size issue

    Hi Experts,
We are facing the below error in connect to jdbc sender channel from XI . Could anyone of you suggest me the right action to be taken in this regard.
Database-level error reported by JDBC driver while executing statement 'select * from*********where posted = '0''. The JDBC driver returned the following error message: 'com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The system is out of memory. Use server side cursors for large result sets:Java heap space. Result set size:614,143,127. JVM total memory size:1,031,798,784.'. For details, contact your database server vendor.
    Appreciate your quick help.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ranganath.

Regulate the number of records returned by Select statement for permanent fix.
    Few more things....
a)If you want to select only some fields, then dont use Select * from table.  Rather specify select a,b,c from tablename
    b) specify some flag in the table so that read some records each time and in the update statement update the flag for those records already read. So that you will not reread the same records in the next message.
    Hope you understand.
    c) Increasing java heap size is temporary fix.

  • The reporting service web service connection pool reached the max pool size

I got a problem that it throw an exception "The timeout peroid elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connection was in use and max pool size was reached."
The satuation is our service use 15 thread to render report, but sometimes we met such exception I list above. I didn't change any configuration in rsreportserver.config, and it seems the connection to reportserver database from reporting service web

Is there any configuration I can modify to fix this issue?

    Hi Dexter,
In your case, we can try to increasing the size of the connection pool to resolve the issue. By default, the Max Pool Size is 100. You can refer to the similar issue below:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c57c0432-c27b-45ab-81ca-b2df76c911ef/timeout-expired-the-timeout-period-elapsed-prior-to-obtaining-a-connection-from-the-pool?forum=adodotnetdataproviders
Since the issue is related with ADO.NET. I suggestion you post the question in the following forum:

It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.

  • How do define the limit of the max heap size?

    Hi All,
I would like to know what should be the limit of the JVM max heap size.
What will happen if we will not define it?
What is the purpose of defining it from the technical point of view?
    Thanks
    Edited by: Anna78 on Jul 31, 2008 12:36 PM

Defining a max heap space too large can have the following effect:
If you create new objects, the VM may decide it is not worth getting rid of garbage-collectable ones, as there
is still plenty of space between the current heap size and the max allowed. The result will be that the
application will run faster and will consume more memory than it really needs.
If the heap size is too small, but still sufficient, the application will do a lot of garbage-collection and therefore
run slower. On the other hand, it will stay inside the tight space it has been allowed to use.
The speed difference may or may not be noticeable, while the difference between 256M and 512M may
or may not matter on today's computers.
