Max song list in Itunes?

I have 115GB of music loaded into Itunes. Now it takes a bit to load the song data. But now I am convinced it is the main reason why 2 Ipods (mine and my girlfriend's) have died recently. I just bought her a new Ipod Video 30gb. and I open Itunes, and blam! It starts causing errors!. First Itunes crashes, then on restart it says it needs to rebuild the Ipod.
Now this happened all the time with my others. What is the deal? Any suggestions?

Open iTunes - then hold down the 'option' + 'Apple  (CMD)' key when plugging in the iPod. This will prevent the iPod from updating and allow you to change your update preferences.
Which version of iTunes are you using?
I doubt that iTunes is causing the iPods to fail. Have you tried to do the '5 R's on the affected iPods? http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
Is there a problem with letting iTunes rebuild the iPod?

I'm going through the same thing, I've tried de-authorizing and re-authorizing my computer and that seems to help. I haven't gotten all my songs back yet, but I've got about 75% of it back.

Song list in iTunes "out of bounds"?

Hey.
I have had this issue the last couple days, the song list in iTunes is out of its bounds. It goes all the way to the top, hiding the search field and making life a real pain.
I have tried restarting my PC and repairing iTunes, with no luck. Might have something to do with my dual monitors?
I'm not sure whether the installation's repair option just looks for damaged files or reinstalls the whole program. If I had removed iTunes and reinstalled it, would it erase my library?

Help! I can't see the songs listed in ITUNES!

I am not that computer literate, but since last night I have not been able to see the song list in ITUNES. How can I buy a song if I dont see it listed? I have have been downloading songs without difficulty for months. What gives?

Welcome to the forums. You need to be running iTunes 4.9 or later to use the iTunes Music Store. This is a very recent change. Go HERE and download the latest version.

Navigating the song list in iTunes - sleeting songs with keyboard

Hi,
i try to manually organize my itunes library and therefore want to select multiple songs in list view.
I know i can command+click in the list to select multiple songs (list entries) but i try to do it with the keyboard.
I can navigate the list using up and down cursor keys and it is possible to select some songs using the shift key (some songs in a row).
But how can i go through the list and just select some songs out of the list i am scrolling through?
I am searching for something like ctrl+space on windows when navigating trough lists using the cursor keys ...

Songs gray & unplayable in song list in iTunes...

I recently bought an iPod nano 4GB 3rd Gen. (I also have a shuffle) From the first time I connceted and installed the iPod, the song list under the iPod installed in iTunes is gray-scaled and is not clickable. I can't delete or add unless actually re-syncing songs. I do not have this problem with my iPod shuffle.
Why is this happened?
(i have all the available updates for iTunes; i tried installing it on another account on my computer; i trouble-shot, restored setting, deleted and then re-added songs to the library and it still is gray-scaled)

Resetting the song list in Itunes without re-installing itunes

I have a number of dead ends and "phantom" dublicates in the Itunes song list now 17,000 strong. I would like to wipe the list our WITHOUT erasing the files and do "Add a new folder" to start with a clean list of songs. Can that be done or do I need to re-install Itunes, please?

Is there going to be a fix made so that you can read the song list in iTunes 11, dark grey on black is not conducive to easy reading?

I have recently upgraded to iTunes 11. Overall there have been some ok improvements, however, one area that went completely backwards is the look of the songs list. The Artist/Album list looks good, but the song list is illegible.

How do I update artist and song list in iTunes match

I recently deleted a bunch of music from my iTunes library and the song titles and artists names still show up in my iTunes match on my iPhone. When listening to the music it constantly goes to play a song that is not there and there are frequently long pauses between songs. How do I erase these song titles from my iPhone?

I had turned off iTM several times without having the list refresh itself. Finally I deleted all of the music from my iPhone, turned off iTM, and shut the phone off. When I restarted the phone and turned on iTM, the list refreshed itself. Thanks for the help.

Solved it. I just needed to clear the font cache in my font manager. Done.

It sounds like the ID3 tags were messed up during the import, either you can remove them and re-add them, rename them to their correct tags, if they were imported from a CD you can get track names, or you can use 3rd party software like Tune-Up Utiitlies ($40) to scan your music and automatically fix the tags. If you don't feel like doing this a suggestion but I don't know if it will work is to restart iTunes.

New user - songs listed thru ITunes but do not display on iPod

Hi all, looking for some assistance. I got a green 4GB nano for Christmas, and I downloaded the latest iTunes software. I've hooked up the the USB and put in a new CD to add to my music library. All uploaded and it indicated that the songs were being loaded into my iPod. When I look in iTunes under my device, I see the songs but NOTHING shows up on my iPod at all??? I click music - songs (nothing there) nothing under any heading at all? What the heck am I doing wrong. Thanks!!!!!!! - Sam
P.S. when docked is it normal to have the read out say "do not disconnect" constantly? I can't access any menus when it's docked as well.

The same thing happend to me on my 2GB nano I got for Christmas at first the songs went on perfectly and then they just dissapeared! It said I had them still on my nano but it didnt show it. And everytime I plug my ipod in it says ''Do not disconnect'' for like ever.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

thanks for taking the time to look!
Basically this prob stems from moving my music from one laptop to another. I now have hundreds of songs listed in iTunes that wont play because the file it wants to play isnt in the right file path.
If I click on an individual song with an exclamation mark in the left hand column, it gives me an option to "locate orignal file". Obviously if I do this, iTunes can then play the song.
Is there a way of associating a number of songs in one go?
Alternatively, whats the least labour intensive way of getting all these songs to play in iTunes again?!

It was for Windows, but I didn't specify exactly what to do as I thought you were using a Mac.
In Windows, did any of your drive letters change and if so can you change them back? iTunes is very fussy about exact paths to files.

Otherwise inspect iTunes Muisc library.xml using wordPad.
Lines starting <key>Location</key> contain paths, use search to find some problem file names. Is there a simple correction that could be made with search/replace/
If so with iTunes closed, drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml to the desktop and do the edit on the xml file, then use this method to rebuild the library file:

If you can't get it to work, you cjust do my original suggestion.
Or if you prefere you can put iTunes Library.itl back, open aiTunes and add you music folders with File Add folder to library. This will add your files, but leave you with many dead tracks. Thes can be removed with one of Robert jacobson's scripts - itunesremovenotfound:
