Maximize on second monitor

I wanted to maximize Safari on an external projector but I couldn't maximize on the second screen. So, I have the same problem with OSX Mail, Sparrow, etc.
I've looked in teh options but couldn't find how to do that, anybody knows?
Thanks in advance!

I'm having the exact same issue... However, I do have the "Displays have separate spaces" option activated.
I can maximize a PDF on my larger primary monitor... But when I drag a PDF over to my smaller secondary screen and hit the maximize "+" button, it shoots the window back over to my other monitor.
Can someone help? This is driving me crazy. I also tried deactivating the "Displays have separate spaces" option to see if that worked... but that didn't.
Other apps work just fine. Chrome behaves exactly as I expect when hitting the maximize button.

  • Why won't Adobe Acrobat or Reader for Mac maximize on second monitor?

Just what the question says. Running Mavericks, of course, and when I drag a Adobe Acrobat or Reader window to my second monitor and press the maximize button, it moves to the first monitor and maximizes there instead. No combination of modifier keys and maximize clicks will work either. The rest of my Adobe Creative Suite maximizes correctly on either monitor. What's with Acrobat?

  • PSE 12.0 Organizer window stuck when on second monitor.

On a mutiple monitor machine aranged to side by side, and the second monitor is larger than the primary monitor,  I cant drag the browser window to second monitor up above where the window was on the primary monitor. I can rezize the window to fit and maximize it as a work around, but must be a bug on my 2.6 Ghz i7 Mac Book Pro with second monitor and OS 10.8.5. I dont have this problem with Bridge CC.

Ok for the « normal » trial message, allthough …
    A couple of thoughts :
    - I waited 12 to 18 hours to finish generating the thumbnails.
    - All the auto-analyzer and automatic people recognition are disabled
    - I’ve discovered in “pse-conversion-log_Photos.txt” 4 messages : “logic_error, unable to reorder version set” with versions stacks. So, I’ve suppressed the 4 photos concerned (poison files ?) in the versions stacks of PSE 4.0 and I will convert my catalog another time.
    - With every crash, a file log is generated, that I send to Adobe, as asked. I attach to this message file "Adobe8 crash1.doc" which contains a copy of the message display Adobe and content of the file generated after 6 hours 30 of thumbnails generation.
Thank you again for your interest in my problem.

  • Premiere 5.5 taking over Second Monitor when minimized

I am using a second monitor as an HD Fullscreen preview for Premiere 5.5. It has this annoying habit of taking over the second monitor (whatever frame I happened to be parked on) while the program is minimized. The only way to get back cotnrol of the monitor is to maximize then send to the background again. This is very annoying when you are operating back and forth between Pr and Ae or trying to do anything else on the second monitor.
It seems to happen when it auto saves (which I have set at 5 minutes.. Yeah, I'm paranoid). I have the "Disable video output when in background" button selected, so what gives? This is the second Premiere 5.5 set-up I've had with this issue.
    Thanks for any feedback!
And yes, the fullscreen video preview popped up THREE times while I was composing this message.

Then download this Intel driver and install first. Then run the Nvidia driver after restart.
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3319&DwnldID=23377&ProductF amily=Graphics&ProductLine=Laptop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=2nd+Generation+Intel%c2% ae+Core%e2%84%a2+Processors+with+Intel%c2%ae+HD+Graphics+3000%2f2000&DownloadType=Drivers& OSFullname=Windows+7+(64-bit)*&lang=eng
Once you have that done open the Nvidia control panel on Restart. Select manage 3D settings. See if you see a Preferred GPU or Graphics card drop down on the right. If so select the Nvidia or performance option. I forget what is exactly said there. That is the Optimus control and will make sure the Nvidia GPU is used most often. That keeps the anomalies you are getting now when the video is switching to the Intel Adapter when you minimize Adobe. If that doesnt work then there may not be a fix for this beyond disabling the Intel adapter.

  • ITunes 8 behaves badly on second monitor

Strange problem that I have noticed on my MacPro 2.66. I have two 22" LCDs running on my MacPro with 4GB of RAM and 10.5.5. If I try move the iTunes window on right LCD by grabbing the header bar and dragging the screen will freeze for about 30 seconds. The window will eventually move but the screen will not redraw. If I move the iTunes window to the other LCD it works fine. This only affects iTunes not any other panels on the right LCD. Quitting iTunes and restarting doesn't solve the problem. I did rebuild permissions after I upgraded to 10.5.5.
Can I just restore iTunes 7 from my Time Machine back-up?

kinu wrote:No way with Twinview (or I don't know how to do it). I will try with xrandr.
Yeah, seems to be a limitation of the Nvidia GUI, but it seems that it's possible [and necessary] to configure it with Xorg's configuration files if you want more freedom to position your monitors.
Since some extra configuration is needed with the Nvidia driver, xrandr alone might not be ideal in your situation. [I mentioned it before since I never needed to mess with my Xorg configuration, and an .xprofile script based around xrandr works better with my Intel-based laptop. ]
Xorg's config files seem like a better choice for you, and if you need to change monitor layouts on the fly, xrandr should still work once you have a good Xorg configuration. If you choose to go this route, you'll probably find this section of the Xorg wiki page very useful: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#Nvidia_2
Since you'd need to specify a position for your second monitor to workaround this, you'd need to use a line like this, instead of the "RightOf" one in the example configuration: ' Screen       1 "Screen1" x y ' where x,y is the location of the upper left corner of that display.
[If a configuration file already exists, make sure you create a backup of it first. Worst-case scenario, a bad config file will prevent X from starting, and you could just restore the backup from the command-line.]
I also discovered that offsetting it by the exact height of your panel seems to cause problems on your primary monitor [at least with the latest version of the XFCE panel]. Upon rebooting, windows would not respect my panels, and instead would go underneath them when maximized. Although, by offsetting my second monitor by a little more [1920x280 instead of 1920x284], both monitors allow windows to maximize correctly, so if you run into the same problem, something like that should fix it.

  • [Solved] XFCE 4.8 Ghost panel on Second Monitor

I've found that when maximizing a window on my second monitor, there is a 28 pixel "gap" where my panel would be on that screen [If I used a panel on that one] upon maximizing a window. If I set my panel to autohide, this goes away, but I find auto-hiding panels rather annoying, and am wondering if there's any way to fix/workaround this. If it helps, I'm using the command "xrandr --output LVDS1 --right-of HDMI1" to extend my desktop onto the second monitor.
    Here's a screenshot of what happens http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/3470 … 103502.png
Edit: Latest version of xfce4-panel fixes the issue.

  • Switch to Second Monitor

    Hi,
I have a MacBook and a second 22" monitor. I can switch between the 2 monitors but any applications (safari, mail, etc.) will not adjust to the larger display. They appear in the same size as on the MacBook display. The resolution for the second monitor is set correctly. If I do the same from my Windows PC it works correctly.

    Hi Gary,
    If your question is:
"How do I enlarge app windows to fullscreen and keep it fullscreen on a second screen?
    Then the answer is:
    "That's not possible..."
Mac-OS X stores the size of any window in pixel.
Therefore the window size will stay the same if you move it from one display to another (measured in pixel) but the window may LOOK smaller or larger depending on the resolution (= number of pixels in both dimensions) of the secondary screen.
You can try clicking on the green button in the top left corner of a window and see whether this "maximize" function does something you were expecting...
    Cheers (or "Gruezi"),
    Walter

  • Second monitor glitch

I use a second (Dell Ultrascan)monitor with my Toshiba laptop to work with Elements 5. I use the Windows (XP) Display Properties dialog box to set the resolution of the monitor, etc.. This works fine for everything except for Elements. When I maximize Elements on the second monitor, it extends off the screen. The scroll bars are even off the screen, so I can't scroll to see the entire picture that I'm working on.
Probably related--When I "restore" the window, thinking I can just size that to fit my monitor, I find that I can't resize it. No double-headed arrows appear to click & drag.
    Any clues? Thanks.
    Tom

Can anyone help??? I am having the same problem.
When I click Maximize, instead of filling the screen of my external display, it shifts the window to the top corner of the display with a portion of the window off the display.
I have a windows xp laptop with external display (1680x1050) running PSe7
BTW, Tom, Try clicking the "restore" button again. Sometimes it won't change the size of the window, but will give you the "double headed" arrow to resize the window. That is what I have been doing... manually resizing the screen and dragging it into place.

  • How to connect my Cinema Display as a second monitor

I just purchased a new 27-inch iMac, and I explained to the Apple folks that I had a 17-inch cinema display (silver clad model) that I wanted to connect, for a dual monitor set up. They told me just to get the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter, but I was surprised to realize that's not going to work.
Can anyone tell me how to do this, and what connector is actually needed? I have the big old white power brick that I bought to daisy chain my old 17 and 23 inch displays with my old configuration (Mac Pro).
Or can you not have a second monitor with an iMac?

  • Lightroom 5.4 jumps to second monitor when attempting to edit an image in Photoshop CS 6.

    Hello,
I have a brand-new HP z620 with an Nvidia Quadro K 4000 display adapter and apparently a software and/or hardware conflict.
I am experiencing an issue with Lightroom 5.4 window not working correctly with my second, not primary, monitor. When Lightroom is working on the second monitor and I need to edit an image in Photoshop cs6, I want Lightroom stay where it is and Photoshop to open on my primary monitor. And this has worked well for me on my previous system which was also a Windows 7 64-bit machine with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 570.
When I click the Lightroom option to "edit in Photoshop CS 6” The Lightroom window will move itself to the primary monitor for no apparent reason. This is the problem I am seeking to remedy.
No other external editing programs opened through LR behaves this way, such as NIK or OnOne Perfect Photo Suite, and I really need LR to stay on the second monitor on the extended desktop.
I’ve tried every monitor cabling setup I could think of to try and even unplugging the primary to make windows identify it as the 2 monitor in the screen resolution settings, but that does nothing for me. My new workstation is running the same OS version and a K4000. Monitors are currently connected to the display ports via dp to dvi adapters. I’ve already tried moving the connections around and plugging one into dvi, there doesn’t seem to be a setting I can change within windows or adobe to change this behavior.”
On a related note, I have similar instability in software made by X-rite that supports the use of a colorimeter allowing me to build profiles for monitors and evaluate colors precisely. During the profiling process I place the colorimeter in the designated place on the secondary monitor and direct the application to begin showing the colorimeter different colors on that monitor. At this point the colors jump to the primary monitor while the rest of the interface along with the colorimeter is a secondary monitor. I have a workaround that I'm using for this particular problem but I am fairly sure that the issue that causes the problem with Lightroom is also the source of my trouble here and I need to eliminate it.
    thanks for your time,
    Larry Garvey

  • How can I use my Samsung 193p as a second monitor?

I am trying to use my Samsung 193P Monitor as my second monitor. It usually has great contrast and good color when attached to my PC. I plugged it into my imac using a DVI to mini DVI adaptor I bought at the apple store. Now it has awful color and the whites are a muddy grey. There do not seem to be any drivers to download. I've called Samsung and Apple and they have no ideas. It is at 1280x1024. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Is there a way to get the monitor communicating with my imac?? Thanks.

Thank you for the suggestions. I tried again. The thing about the Samsung 193P is that it doesn't have any external "buttons" to push for contrast and brightness. You are supposed to use MagicTune to do this, but of course, that is not compatible with mac. Without any adjustments, it usually looks great on a PC. Do you think I could use my Spyder to calibrate it with the mac? Could I only calibrate the 2nd monitor? I don't want to adjust the new mac monitor in any way. Would that be an option?

The Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:
The times when the query is sent are:
    • at Startup
    • at wake from sleep
    • when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
    • when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences
