MB Pro and Gaming

Hi,
i`m using a MacBook Pro (2008) for Photoshop and other Adobe apps. In the last time i played a liitle bit World of Warcraft with the Notebook and I habe real worrys about the temperature. Today my MB Pro crashed at playing. Should I buy a gaming notebook and only work with the MB or can i play with such high temps?

Not if you are a serious gamer! Serious gamers do not play on a puny computer screen. Hook up the Playstations Xbobx and those other systems to a big screen TV & you're in game heaven
Gaming consoles have a larger GPU also.

  • Mac Pro and Gaming

Just wondering if the MAC PRO is a very good gaming computer? I have one game installed, Tiger Woods and have issues. The latest, the game tries to start every time I log on to the computer.
Perhaps a setting isn't correct. The game doesn't have any options to set like that.
In addition, wonder if I would be better off with an Apple Display instead of the NEC?
    Any comments are welcome>>

The game is not somehow one of the login items is it?
As for the display I have an Apple display, might not be any better than the NEC I don't know, but it sure as **** has the feel good factor. (and the look good factor).

  • I want to get an iMac to learn Logic Pro primarily and gaming secondly

I am new to all this (computers, Logic Pro and video games) but I want to learn. Is an iMac a good computer to run Logic Pro (I am also considering Mac mini)? I am also wondering about the nvidia geforce gtx 780m with 4 gb dedicated ram. How many years down the road will this graphics card be good for. From what I hear pc gamers have to periodically be upgrading things like graphics cards on their computers to be able to play newer games in the future, but I don't have that option with say this graphics card on the 27 inch imac, so I guess my question is, for how long will this nvidia geforce gtx 780m with 4 gb dedicated ram be good for before it becomes obsolete, 3 years, 5 years ,maybe more or less I do not know. I was thinking about getting a Mac mini for the Logic Pro and getting a play station 4 for gaming or just getting thr iMac and use it for both Logic Pro and gaming and forget about the play station 4. I need some real help over here, so if anyone could please help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. P.S. I have also heard that the Mac mini is a good option for Logic Pro being that it has the integrated graphics card and Logic Pro is not a really graphic intensive app, so maybe I would be straight going the Mac mini and play station 4 route.

You are better off getting a dedicated gaming box for gaming than using a Mac for heavy gaming.
Unless you go with a top of the line iMac with just about all of the optional components, Macs do not make great heavy gaming machines. Plus, a gaming box is sooo much cheaper than a Mac for gaming.
For using Logic, I would just go for the 21 inch screen iMac and get it with the optional  full 16 GBs of RAM and optional i7 CPU and, if you can afford all of the options, get this iMac with the optional Fusion drive, too!
The combination SSD and hard drive in the fusion drive will help make up for the slower 5400 RPM drives that they are putting into only the 21 inch screen models.
With this configuration, this iMac would last you, at least, 5 years.

"At least 16 GB of free space on the disk onto which you’re installing for 32-bit, or 20 GB for 64-bit (for Microsoft Windows and Windows-based applications)."
That's what Apple proposes in here Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows
Personally I would double these amounts and add to that the diskspace needed for your Windows games.

  • I just ordered a macbook air today and need to know if the 128gb SSD is enough space. I presently have a macbook pro and am using only 30gb hard drive space so, the apple rep said 128 is enough as I do not load much pictures or gaming etc. Also is i5 ok.

Id choose the I5 yes, depends on what your usage is going to be,
....your question about "128 gig being enough" begs the question for IDEALIZED USE of your macbook AIr
In the case of a Macbook Air with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.  You should never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’.
*Generally, unless you NEED the data at least once every few weeks or once a month,...it really does'nt NEED to be on the SSD of your Macbook Air.
Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their computers internal HD because they are constantly archiving data to arrays of external or networked HD.
Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your macbook has a HD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your computer to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.
Ive got more APPS than any human should have on my 128gig AIR,..(50 or so),....and 10gig of working data, important files etc etc.
Still have 82gig available....... the entire point is that someone shouldnt consider the Air a "storage device" for tons of pics, music, vids, etc.
*Never consider any computer a data storage device at any time under any circumstance, rather a data creation, sending, and manipulation device. Anyone who thinks data is safe on any computer, even copied upon multiple partitions is making a mistake that will, without fail, strike.
For needs of packing around a LOT of "big data" with your Air in its case..., get a nice 1TB HD for $70, or even a 2TB drive not much bigger.
Perfect 2TB HD, very slim, the "little giant"   made by Toshiba (have several of these) $119

  • Does macbook pro of early 2011, macbook 17'' possess 3D vision and gaming ability?

Does macbook pro of early 2011, macbook 17'' possess 3D vision and gaming ability?

No 3D vision, but the top end 2.2+ 15" & 17" supports a pretty decent video card for 3D gaming, for a laptop, scores 30 on Cinebench. WOW will play on highest settings 50fps and better.
But still a Windows tower smokes anything Apple has and you can replace the video cards, so if your serious, you should go there or get a Playstation, better bang for the buck.

  • Intel Iris Pro and Boot Camp Gaming?

So I'm just wondering how the Intel Iris Pro, and Boot Camp Gaming go together? I just got a 15inch Mac Book Pro with:
    2.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    256GB PCIe-based flash storage
    Intel Iris Pro Graphics
My question is, can this Macbook run games, (or just Star Wars the Old Republic), in max settings in Boot Camp?

I am assuming this is a custom-built dust prevention solution, yes?
Anyways, I received my replacement SuperDrive and just realized that due to Windows and Mac's limitations in regards to hard drives larger than 2.2 TB, I can't have any of my 3TB drives with both OS X and Windows without having at least two separate HFS partitions on them since the Windows partition must be in the fourth partition, requiring OS X to be in partition 2, Recovery in partition 3, and the combined size of these first four partitions must be under 2.2 TB.
At least that's my understanding.  I currently have three 3 TB drives and one 1 TB drive (which contains Windows XP and 7 only).
I'm not really not sure if Windows has to be in the fourth partition because as I mentioned, my 1 TB drive has EFI in partition 1, Windows XP in partition 2, and Windows 7 in partition 3.  I have OS 10.9 on one 3 TB drive, OS 10.7 on the second 3 TB drive, and no OS on the third 3 TB drive.  I would prefer to install Windows 8 on that third 3 TB drive and yet have only one HFS partition because my desktop is already seemingly over-crowded with all the internal drives and partitions it has (I also have a 500GB SSD drive which is my 10.10 boot volume, plugged into one of the two unused SATA motherboard ports).
My plan is to first determine if I can now break the 1 TB drive barrier I ran into before and install two Windows OSs on a 2 TB drive (technically, I am going to clone my 1 TB Windows partitions onto the 2 TB drive).  Next, I will attempt to partition a 3 TB drive with Windows 8 in partition 2 and HFS in partition 3.

  • Mac Pro and Video Card. Which???

Hey Guys, Im planning on buying a Mac Pro and if I was not sparing any expense to get the latest & greatest, then would buying the "NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 512MB, Stereo 3D (2 x dual-link DVI)" ensure the best high end card I can buy for my mac? Is there a big difference between that and the "ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB" or the "NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB" ?? Not sure which to choose. Thanks

The Quadro is the fastest card you can buy.
Between the Quadro and the X1900, there isn't much of a difference performance wise, but the Quadro is very slightly faster then the X1900 in certain tasks (gaming, in particular).
Between the X1900 and the 7300, there's no real comparison. The 7300 is a baseline card. It will do everything the X1900 does- but not as fast and your frames per second (FPS) will suffer significantly in things where that matters (gaming, again).
If you aren't tied to the Quadro and you want something with any reasonable amount of speed to go with the capabilities of the rest of the machine (Quad Xeon cores), then go with the X1900. It's cheaper, and about the same speed as the Quadro.
The 7300 is, well, going to be slow compared to the X1900/Quadro.

  • Macbook Pro being used as XP Pro Bootcamp gaming laptop - OK?

I am looking to buy a Macbook pro 2.4 with 2gb ram. I want to split the drive into 2, making the other side bootcamp, xp pro, for mainly purposes of gaming. Games like COD4, COD5, GRID, etc. etc., but wanted to know before I buy can the Macbook Pro be a good or great as an xp or windows 7 gaming laptop, or should I buy a xp gaming laptop? I can upgrade the ram to 4gb, no problem, if that helps.
    Thanks!!!

Whoa, did that go the wrong way. I didn't mean that Luke "thought" I might be foolish, but, here's my question...
I want one laptop, preferring an Apple, if I get the Macbook Pro and convert it into 1/2 xp pro gaming machine, will it be worth my cash (can it perfome very well in gaming) or just buy a desktop gaming pc and then just a macbook (refurb)? I can't decide. Thanks for your help!!!!

It will run. If you really want to game, off course you should but a 15 inch MBP and get you're Steam on, or buy a *couch* PC, or gaming console.
You could get all next-gen consoles for the price of a new MBP (well maybe all of them)
And eveyone of these options can play the games you want!

  • MacBook Pro and Guild Wars 2?

I want to purchase a MacBook Pro for my son to use at college next year. He'll be pursuing and engineering degree, but is also a big PC gamer.
    1. Are the 13" MacBook Pros capable of playing PC games like Guild Wars 2 and WOW?
    2. What's the best way to run PC games on a Mac–Bootcamp, Parallels, or Fusion?
    3. What's the best/most affordable MacBook Pro configuration I can get away with?
    Thanks!

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with wjosten on this one. Macs can be great gaming machines. For example, the iMacs always have the 2nd best mobile graphics chipset available. The same can't be said for the MacBooks Pros, but if you take wjosten's advice, you won't have the luxury of the Mac OS either. I have a mid-2012 13" MacBook Pro, and I play Guild Wars 2 under Boot Camp. I can play it on medium-low graphics settings with no lag, and it still looks great. I have also installed it on the Mac side using Winskin, but that's much more complex, and the results aren't as good. If you opt for the cheapest 15" MBP, you'll get a dedicated graphics chipset that will be able to play the game on high graphics settings no problem. Do the kid a favor and get him a Mac, and not a PC...

  • Question about Mac Pro and Adding GPU's

I am a recent convert from PC and I had a Dell system that had two Nvidia Cards in it, but I could not use each one to run one monitor because it was SLI and it could only clone my screen and not extend it. So I had to plug both monitors into one card, and I basically paid for one card that I never really used since I wanted two monitors.
I have two monitors hooked to my new Mac Pro, and my question is if I put in another Nvidia GT120 will each GPU run one monitor, and will they run as one big desktop just they way I have it set up now. Plus is there any benefit to having the dual GPU? I work on documentary videos and I use Adobe Creative Suite a lot. Will having the dual GPU speed up things like After Effects and Premiere. I know snow Leopard will help some, but in the mean time will an extra GPU help any?

As Hatter said, you can drive 2 monitors from 1 video card on the Mac. SLI/Crossfire doesn't work under OSX, so unless you need to run more than 2 monitors, there's no need to have more than 1 video card...
And I wouldn't say you got no use out of the 2nd video card in your dell. If you were gaming at all, you were probably getting better performance using the SLI than you would have gotten with just 1 card.
So, yes, under OSX, you can drive 2 monitors with the 1 card and it will let you either clone the desktop on to both displays (both show the same thing) OR stretch the display so the desktop stretches across both displays...
I'll be doing this with my mac pro to drive 3 monitors (using a 2nd video card)... Which should give me a HUGE desktop (I can't describe how much nicer it is to have tons of desktop space when programming or doing video editing...)

  • Need help getting Fatal1ty Pro Series Gaming Headset Mic to work

    greetings.
i am using a Fatal1ty Pro Series Gaming Headset Mic along with an Audigy 2 ZS Notebook card, and i cannot for the life of me get my laptop to recognize audio coming from the mic. the mic switch on the cord is on, and the status light is lit up, and i can even hear my voice from the mic in the headphones, but the audio is not being inputted into the computer. i'm using winxp pro and have played around with all the audio settings in control panel with no luck. any suggestions? i thank you in advance for your time and consideration. take care.
    regards,
    jps

Headsets or microphones with a USB connection cannot be connected to the input connections on a sound card directly. Instead, they must be connected to a USB port on a PC.
They are treated as a separate audio device by Windows. They will be listed as a separate audio device in Device Manager as well as in Windows Multimedia panel. To adjust the volume of the headset or the microphone, use Windows Volume Control.

  • These ATI cards 9500 Pro and 9700 Pro ok for MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and winchester cpu? Compatible?

Looking at grabbing a used ATI 9500 Pro or used 9700 Pro AGP card for my MSI Neo2 Plat since I can't use my Matrox G400.
Any problems using either of the above cards? I don't play a huge amount of 3D games so I'm not going to grab a 9800 Pro or XT or 6600GT. A 9500 or 9700 Pro would allow me to play the newer games at reasonable resolutions. Just want to make sure they are compatible.
    thanx

Ok guys, thanx for the feedback. I missed the 9500 Pro sale, so maybe its for the better. If I'm going to try a bit of 3D gaming, I may aswell get a little bit better card. So here is my question for you folks:
For my MSI K8N Neo2 and AMD64 3000+ system, I want a card that will have good 2D output and good DVD playback. I want to try some 3D games, but don't want to have the minimum. I was looking at used 9500 Pro's and the 9600 XT but I've come across a used 9700 Pro and a 9800 Pro and 9800 Pro with r360 core (almost a 9800XT). So if I get a 9700 Pro, what will I be able to play smoothly at what settings and what will I be unable to play. Ultimately, I may play mostly on my projector at 858 x 484, so maybe the cards don't matter too much. If I don't play 3D games much after a while, I'll probably downgrade, but I want to give it a try. I can't afford a new 9800 Pro/XT or 6600GT.
Used cards I'm deciding between. Have to act fast.
9700 Pro $170 CAD or 9800Pro $210 CAD or 9800 with r360 core $230. Price differences between the cards is as you see there.
thanx in advance for any feedback,
