[MBP 15"] Mini-DisplayPort to Eizo S2431

Hi all !
I've a MBP Unibody 15" with an adaptator MDP to VGA and a Eizo S2431 in native resolution 1920x1200.
When I connect my external screen (eizo) I can't have the native resolution, I can only have a 1680x1200 resolution...
Is it due to VGA cable ? If I buy a MDP to DVI, is it going to work ?
My screen work very well with my desktop linux in vga or dvi.

Is the MacBook Pro recognizing the TV at all?

If the MacBook Pro is recognizing the display but nothing is showing, try different display resolutions (System Preferences->Displays).

Apple 20" CD connects fine to MacBook Pro 2009 via DVI to Mini displayport (adapter) but not to Radeon 5770 (either MDP ports) on MacPro 2008?! Have Eizo CG223 on DVI to 5770. Any ideas?

Here's the setup:
Eizo Coloredge CG223 DVI to DVI on MacPro 5770 interface (ACD works fine on this too, naturally).
Apple Cinema Display 20" have the DVI connector. I have a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter on this, into one of the 5770's MDPs, neither of which seem to work.
Plug the same ACD via DVI (with DVI to MDP adpater) into my MacBook Pro 2009 MDP and it works fine as a second screen.
So what's up with the 5770 MDPs? I've seen online that the card should at least support two displays, either MDPs x2 or MDP and DVI. I've seen there may be an issue with three, not two.
Any ideas please?

Striped down to bare inputs - monitors and keyboard/mouse. Works! Dimerising must have interfered with it. Phew!

MBP + Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter + 30" = blue flickering

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has found a solution to this problem? I use an Apple 30" Cinema Display and it worked fine with my Late 2007 MBP. Now I got a new Core i7 MBP and the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter. At first all works fine, but after a while of use I get blue (and sometimes also green) flickering pixels in areas that are supposed to be black. This does usually not matter while working, but watching movies for example is completely unbearable.
I’ve read a few threads, but most seem to have different problems like 1/3 of the screen flickering or the external display going completely off for a second. That is no issue over here. It is just that the longer I use my setup the more flickering gets added. At first I thought I don’t suffer from this, because it goes from practically flicker-free to totally weird flickering when everything is in use for more than a few minutes.
I’ve set up the Computer Name screensaver. If I run it right after turning on my MBP all is fine. Running it again after 2-3 minutes of use shows the first blue pixels flickering. It does not need 30 minutes to arrive at what seems like more flickering isn’t possible anymore...
Any recommendations or solutions are really welcome!
Things I already tried:
- different USB ports for both the adapter and the Cinema Display
- other power outlets
- powering the adapter from a USB hub or via an iPod wall charger

At last! I’m quoting myself, because I finally found an alternative adapter which works! I have no more flickering pixels/lines. Black looks and stays completely black as it should! I can finally use dark backgrounds again and watching movies with black borders or dark areas is no longer a pain.
The adapter was very hard to get. It currently is not sold here in Germany and I got it off eBay where there was only 1 available. I’m happy, because I got it for less than 90€ which is even a little cheaper than Apple’s flicker-creator.
The adapter I now use is the Sapphire Active DisplayPort-to-(Dual-Link-)DVI adapter. It has a USB connector for power like Apple’s adapter. The only thing that’s added is the DisplayPort-to-Mini-DisplayPort cable since it is not available with Mini-DisplayPort. Here’s a picture of it:

PS: This adapter seems to be normally meant for ATI’s GPUs in order to connect 3 displays which they call Eyefinity.

MBP to HDTV won't work - mini displayport to dvi - belkin dvi to hdmi

Hey, I'm trying to get my laptop hooked up to my tv, using the apple mini displayport to DVI -> belkin DVI to HDMI cable setup (as recommended by the dude int eh apple store - which i knew and planned on doing anyway :P).
anyway, when i first plugged it in to the tv in my hotel room it worked, 1080p, then stopped .. then randomly worked again after a few ties. Once I got home i hooked it up to my sharp aquos 42 and worked fine, then after it was unplugged and tried to get it working again, it basically just.. wouldn't - i don't get a picture/signal on the tv, no options in the display cp , nor does the screen go blue when it normally finds a monitor/tv. i've tried plugging it in both ends, restarting, turning tv off/on, everything to no avail. I know the dvi-hdmi cable works, used it from a windows desktop to make sure. the mini displayport to DVI works for DVI 100% of the time into one of my monitors.
as mentioned it had worked at first on and off..., and now i cant get it working on my 1080p tv, nor the 720p one that's in my room, neither of them get a picture/signal; no options in display control panel either, or the quick display flash to blue. Furthermore, sometimes when unplugging the dvi cable from the tv i get the laptop screen flash, as when it picks the device up initially.
I never got my emailed invoice from apple when I bought the cables in in SF during macworld so I cant just return it to apple I'm sure.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated, please help this is making me go crazy... worked and now nothing no matter what i try. Oh, also tried on another, new user to see if it was a weird setting that got saved.

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

MBP Unibody and Mini DisplayPort to S-video adapter

Why is the Mini DisplayPort-to-s-Video Adapter the only adapter that Apple can't seem to make? My late model PowerBook G4 came with its own S-Video out, which was perfect for running video to the dual overhead projectors in my Sunday School class. But alas, the PowerBook couldn't keep up with the multimedia video requirements I made for it, so I upgraded to the MacBook Pro (mid 2009). But I can't find a friggin' adapter to save my life! I've tried an external VGA unit, only to have the video rolls all over the screen with no way to stop it. All I need is one simple adapter: a Mini DisplayPort to S-Video /Composite adapter. Apple makes almost the exact same adapter, but it's for the mini-DVI out. At least the PowerBook had a full-size DVI out- all the MBP has is the single, stupid Mini DisplayPort. Why can't the fine folks at Apple make up their stupid minds which ports they're going to use?

Once you head on over to VGA from the Mini DisplayPort, you are then talking about an ANALOG signal. This analog signal must be changed BACK to digital in order to work with S video. So, what you need is a VGA to S video converter box. They are a lil too pricey for me, around $100 I think.
What I was thinking was this. Since Mini DisplayPort and S video are both digital signals, you need to have digital all the way. I wonder if the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter shown here:

would work when connected to the DVI to Video Adapter shown here:

At that point you would need an S video cable connected to the second adapter...but if the first adapter is in fact transmitting a digital signal, the second adapter should then just pass through that digital signal to the S video cable.

Mini-DisplayPort Video Capture on MBP 15" 2010?

Hi, since there are adapters to use HDMI with Mini-DisplayPort, is it possible to capture from a video camera over this? I know HDMI capture is possible for any computer with HDMI built in, but I was wondering if I'd be able to do so even using the standard adapted. I'd like to know if this is at all possible first, and then how would I go about setting it up if it is. Thank you!

So, all one really needs is an optical cable (along with an adapter) and a controller (which may or may not come as standard with the speakers).

Mini DisplayPort - VGA and MBP 2011 not working

Hi,
I can't get my 13" mbp 2011 to connect to VGA screens. I've bought a mini DisplayPort to VGA converter (an Apple one, not a no name) and if I connect a display over VGA the screen stays black. My mbp recognizes the display, I can see the display's model, resolution etc but no signal. I've tried multiple screens, none work.
I don't have other converters so I can't test if HDMI screens for example do work.
Anyone else having this problem?

I have a 2011 13" i7 and am having the same issue when connecting it to my LG TV through the HDMI adapter. However when I connect it to my HP external monitor it works but it's VERY blurry... so blurry that it hurts the eyes to look at it for more than a few mins.
My previous MBP (2010 13") works fine however with both the TV and monitor. I even reconnected it just to make sure and they both work flawlessly.
I only have 14 days total to return this new MBP and 5 of those days are used up so if I can't get this fixed by then I have no choice but to return it and go back to my old MBP.

MBP 2009: Audio over Mini DisplayPort

It's been working great with my 2009 model MacBook Pro, however I have to use a separate cable for audio.
When in the Apple Store recently to fix a battery problem on that laptop, I got into a discussion about audio through HDMI on this model. According to the Mac Genius audio through Mini DisplayPort was enabled on older devices through a firmware update (and he said his Mac Mini now uses one cable to do audio and video).
Audio is not working with the cable above - but was I incorrectly informed by Mac Genius, or do I need a different cable that does support audio?

All we know about your MacBook Pro model is that you've identified it as a "2009 model MacBook Pro." Apple introduced audio-out via mini-displayport in the April 2010 MBP models, so if yours was bought before then, it didn't have that capability when it was new. To the best of my knowledge and belief, nothing that has happened or been released since then has changed that.
[This article|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241], updated in June 2010 (after the release of the latest mac Mini), lists the Mac models that supported audio via mini-Displayport at that time:
"iMac (Late 2009), MacBook Pro (Mid 2010), MacBook (Mid 2010), and Mac mini (Mid 2010) supply multichannel audio (up to 8 channels) and video signals over Mini DisplayPort."
I haven't heard of any update that has changed that list since then. If it were possible to enable audio output by means of a firmware update, I think Apple would have made that update available to all owners of mini-Displayport-equipped Macs, not just some of them.

A 2009 MBP does not support audio via the minidisplay port. For audio you will have to tap the audio output port and use RCA connectors to the audio inputs on the TV.

MBP Mini Displayport question

The applies to Vista (bootcamp) and attempting to connect an external display. To be clear, under OSX I seem to have no issues, so I was kinda hoping this was a known issue, as I don't expect this to be the place to do any extensive Vista troubleshooting.
My employer got me a MBP as a replacement for my desktop. It was delivered to me with OSX installed, a retail copy of Vista Business NOT installed, a mini displayport to DVI adapter, and an Acer 22" widescreen display. Upon unpacking the notebook, I setup Vista under bootcamp - a surprisingly painless process. Immediately after booting into Vista, I installed the driver for the monitor and then connected the monitor, and here's where my trouble starts.
When you plug in an external devices (input devices, scanners, cameras, monitors, etc) under Vista, it will make a chime to indicate the device was detected. Similarly, when you disconnect the device, you get another chime to indicate it was disconnected.
In my case, when I plugged in the monitor via the mini displayport to DVI adapter, it made the detect chime, immediately followed by the disconnect chime, and then the connect chime, disconnect chime, etc. It will endlessly cycle back and forth between connected and disconnected. I checked to see if the monitor would work under OSX, and it was fine. No matter what I do, I can't get it to stay "on" in Vista.
Anyone run into that problem?

Well, I went ahead and updated the video drivers to see if I'd have any luck with that. I had been intentionally avoiding changing the video drivers (getting the Detonator package, taking the offered upgrade from Windows Update) because I didn't want to alter the driver that was installed with Bootcamp.
After installing driver package 186.81, I rebooted, connected the mini displayport adapter, the computer did the on/off/on/off thing for about thirty seconds, and was I was trying to decide in which direction to fling all the crap on my desk, it finally stopped. Went into the display properties, enable the monitor, and all was well (so far).

MBP Audio over Mini-Displayport

How do I tell if my MBP can support audio over mini-displayport?
I have purchased a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter but when I connect it to my TV I don't have the option in audio to choose the output over mini-displayport.
I don't know if it is the adapter I have purchased preventing it from working or if it is the laptop.

MBP's like your late-2008 model don't output audio through the mini-displayport — the first models to do so were introduced in April 2010.
You need an adapter like this:

The former carries 5.1-channel digital surround sound from the headphone port; the latter carries ordinary stereo from a USB port.

USB Hub in Dell U3011 not working over Mini-DisplayPort(Thunderbolt) when it did with previous MBP

My previous MBP, a few years ago - the first generation with Thunderbolt - was able to generate a USB connection over Mini-DisplayPort with my Dell U3011. My late 2013 MBP is able to send display and audio, but seems unable to detect the USB hub in the monitor. I am on 10.9.4. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I turns out that the logic board of my MacBook Pro was faulty (despite being brand new).
I took it to the Apple Store, presented the problem, and one of the Tech's came to the same conclusion that I had -- hardware failure. Phone support was no help in the matter (and even told me that what I was trying to do wasn't a supported option, which is rediculous). However, the Genius Bar did take care of the problem, and my MacBook Pro was back to me with a replaced logic board within a few days.

Mini displayport not recognized in Windows 7 on MBP mid 2012

I have a MBPro mid 2012 with windows 7 pro installed. While i'm in windows my mini displayport is not recognized when i connect it to my smart tv. The connector i use is a Logilink Mini Displayport to HDMI. In Mavericks it works fine though. Anyone can point me in the direction of the right driver to install in windows?

I think that the Thunderbolt port offers the same function as the Display port.
This a working solution that I have, which uses the Thunderbolt port for both Thunderbolt and Display port use:
Macbook Air (mid 2011) - connect to Seagate GoFlex Desk Thunderbolt Hard Drive (Using Thunderbolt cable)
Seagate Goflex Thunderbolt passthrough (it has 2 thunderbolt ports) to a Dell 24 Inch monitor (using Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter cable).
Both the Seagate GoFlex and the Dell 24 inch monitor work :-)
