MBP 17" mid 2010 Snow Leopard Native: why not possible to install Snow Leopard in some new Hard disk?It appears "impossibile 'cause you have Mac OS X" 23.1.1."
Guys, I want to install SL in some hard disk. It's the native OS, the one came with the MBP. But after having installed Lion, my MBP doesn't allow me to install from the original dvd of Snow Leopard, telling me "impossible because you have Mac OS X” 23.1.1. istaller".
Someone can help me?
hey thank you for your answers. I've written that I want to install snow leopard in a new hard disk, not over the lion. In other words, I want a hard disk with the faster snow leopard, that was the native OSX of my MBP mid 2010. But using the last procedure you suggested me, the dvd doesn't appear. I repeat, there's something changed in the firmware that blocks snow leopard.
the comunication that appears when I insert the original dvd of SL is something like "impossible to install snow leopard because you have Mac OS X” 23.1.1. istaller".

I have apple macbook pro mid 2009 ... my hard disk stopped working and i had mac os 10.6.8 in it ... i bought a new hard disk drive but i didn't have my CD so i installed my friend's mac os 10.5.8 in the new hard disk ... i want to get my previous 10.6.8 back ... hope there is a way to do so
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
Snow Leopard General Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
2. 1GB of memory
3. 5GB of available disk space
4. DVD drive for installation
5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
fees may apply.
6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
terms apply. -

Crashs of MBP 13 mid-2010 (MC375LL/A)
Hi,
I am using a a MBP 13 mid-2010 (MC375LL/A) with the following characteristics
MacBookPro 7,1
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz
RAM: 8Gb (2x4Gb in replacement of the 2x2Gb)
HDD: WD Blue 500Go 5400trs/min (in replacement of 320Go)
GPU: Nvidia 320M 256Mo
OSX: Maverick 10.9.1
Use: office software applications + Multimedia + scientific computing and development (one raeson for changing the RAM)
Since the middle of december 2013, the MBP crashes many times a day. It stops by many differents ways:
- black, white, blue, orange or green screen and freezes (I need to hold power button to shutdown);
- come back to logon screen;
- reboot (black text on gray brackground screen);
- screen with many multicolor lines;
- just freeze (I need to hold power button to shutdown);
These problems happen with battery (i need to change it (670 cycles)) but also with magsafe. When the MBP crashs, I am not doing special thing (sometimes just on website, sometimes on youtube watching video...) but it is very randomly.
Sometimes I can obtain a Kernel Panic but sometimes not.
You can find at the following link the last kernel panic I obtained http://goo.gl/mPR29q
So I am looking for one solution to deal with this problem.
Thank you in advanceSounds like you have the mid-2010 problem. There's an issue with the graphics module on that machine. There was a program in place to replace the motherboard within 3 years of purchase, but you're probably outside of that. Some folks have supposedly gotten theirs changed outside of that period, so you can try.

What you can do to use it is download gfxstatus from http:gfx.io and force the graphics to Intel. -
Is it possible to install Snow Leopard on a PC and to run it with two Nvidia Quadro Cards and 8 Screens?
Furthermore, all new Macs since 2006 have been able to have Windows or Linux installed on them natively with virtualization engines*:

You may even want to consider a used Mac Pro*:

I have a 15" MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion installed. I have partitioned the hard drive into two partitions. Is it possible to install Snow Leopard on the second partition? If so how do I do it?
If your MacBook Pro had Snow Leopard on it at one time then sure. (Early 2011 or earlier)
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Obviously choose the second partition to install into. It has to be OS X Extended journaled formatted in Disk Utility (BootCamp software makes it a MSDOS/FAT32 formatted partition if you used that to partition with)
If it's a Early 2011 or Late 2011 that came with 10.7, it's possible, but it's not easy.

If you can't install Snow Leopard, there is a thread over at MacRumors how to run Snow Leopard in a virtual machine program under 10.7 or 10.8 -
Can I upgrade to Lion from OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard)? Do I need to install Snow Leopard first? If so, Which version?
There are only two versions of Snow Leopard, the ordinary one and the server edition. Most people have no need of the server edition. Any Snow Leopard retail disc, no matter how old, even 10.6.0, can be updated to 10.6.8, so the version is pretty much irrelevant. You need to make sure your hardware is up to scratch for Lion though - you have to have an Intel processor, Core 2 Duo or better - NOT Core Duo.

Is it possible to install Snow Leopard on an external hard disk?
I was wondering if it is possible to install Snow Leopard on an external drive that I use as a backup start up disk. Can I then boot up off of either disk? I would like to test Snow Leopard with my applications before I install it on my internal drive.
ThanksYou can install from your install disk and migrate from your internal during Setup Assistant.
If all is well you can then use SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner both free for cloning to clone the system on your external to your internal.
This is what I do when testing upgrades/updates.

Hi there ricalimo,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps in the article below. If the issue is location specific, than you may want to save the article so you can perform troubleshooting when you are experiencing trouble.

Why it is not possible to install apps on an SD card on a Win 8.1 tablet? If it is possible to install apps on SD card in Windows phone 8.1, why is it not possible on Windows 8.1? What sort of design philosophy you follow that gives better features on

Why I can't do a search in my external hard disk using Adobe Bridge CS6?
When I open Adobe Bridge CS6 and try to do a search within my external hard disk, it will give results from my internal hardisk only?! this is the 1st time I encounterd such strange issue. Because of this I do my search with windows and then browse each result with Bridge! which really annoying.
I solved the problem by going to the search field and clicking on the search icon where it will give a drop list of 3 options, then selecting Bridge Search: Current Folder and that solved my problem. thanks for everyone help

You can do a search of an external drive if the OS permissions are OK. Bridge will not search across different drives however.

New hard disk, problems installing Leopard
Hi,
I bought a new hard disk (500GB SATA, 2.5-inch, 5400RPM) and fitted it into my 2008 unibody MacBook. I have a retail copy of Leopard. After inserting the DVD, holding down C and powering up, I get a chime, a grey screen, and then a blank screen. Then I get another chime and a grey screen. This keeps repeating with no option to install leopard.
I have tried resetting PRAM but this didn't help.
Any ideas?Hi louse101,
There is additional Info HERE.
If you call Apple Customer Supoort 0845 600 1683 and provide the serial number of the MacBook you may be able to purchase replacement original system discs.
They will be for the version of OS that was pre-installed when manufactured and will contain the bundled software that is not included in a Full Retail Version of a newer OS X. The Apple Hardware Test specific to the Mac model will also be included.

Seems something is changed in the firmware that doesn't allow more to install snow leopard. Someone can help me?
In general, a 2010 model Mac should be able to re-install Snow Leopard. It would require a complete backup, a complete wipe, then install of Snow Leopard. Then be careful not to restore OS X Mt. Lion files over SL, when restoring your data files and applications.
What is the Mac Model Identifier in About This Mac/More Info/Hardware Overview?
Are you using the Restore disc that came with that model Mac? If not, you may need to purchase a retail Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD 10.6.3 from Apple for $19.95. -
I recently bought a Mid 2010 MacBook from eBay that has Lion on it. I'm trying to do a reinstall of Mac OS in order to remove an account that came on it but the restore process says that I'm not the "owner" when I type in my Apple ID.
I don't have the original restore discs. I called Apple about this and they said that I could buy the retail version of Snow Leopard or buy Lion "again" in the app store but with my Apple ID.
I would think that if this computer originally shipped with Lion that I shouldn't have to buy it again, which suggests that maybe it really shipped with Snow Leopard. However, in user manual on support.apple.com for this model it talks about Lion.
I'm going to call Apple back about this but shouldn't they know based on my serial number which OS shipped with the computer?
Thanks!
DavidThanks. So as a followup, is the restore disc(s) for the MacBook essentially the same as the retail Snow Leopard disc, or should I request the actual disc that came with the computer?
I have no problems buying Lion again, but I'm really after the original restore disc in the event that I want to sell this computer and not leave the buyer in the same boat I'm in now.
David
