  • How do I rent SD movies on my 3rd Gen Apple TV?  I have changed the output resolution in Apple TV's setup to 720, but it didn't make any difference.

I returned my 14 month old 3rd Gen Apple TV to the Apple store today because it would no longer see my wireless network.  Apple said that because of this problem, it was still covered under warranty, and gave me a new one.  Took it home and went through all the setup screens.  Even downloaded the latest software update.  Everything else appears to be working fine, but I can't rent a movie in SD like I used to be able to.  Everything I've read says that the settings is where I change that, but the one setting that I did find and change, under audio and visual, made no difference.  What am I missing?
    Thanks!

This problem has been solved by me.  The settings under the Apple TV menu for audio/visual do adjust for the output to your screen either 1080 or 720, but don't have any effect on the iTunes purchases.
The solution is under the Apple TV menu option "iTunes Store".  There you can choose from 1080 HD, 720 HD or 720 SD.  Now my movie selections in iTunes do offer the SD option.

  • I want to restore my 3rd gen apple tv using itunes

    Please help me folks!
I'm trying to restore my 3rd gen apple tv through itunes as I can't do it through the apple tv itself. I have followed the instructions to the letter; 1) open itunes 2) plug micro USB cable in to back of apple tv box and connect to laptop using USB port 3) connect apple tv box to power source.
Did that! However, my apple tv device DID NOT SHOW UP in my itunes at all. So now I am stuck with a 3rd gen apple tv device that won't let me restart it using the remote OR using itunes.
Suggestions please. Don't fancy spending over £100 on another one.
    Kind regards

Sometimes if iTunes doesn't see a device for me, whether my iPhone or iPad, a simple restart of my Mac is usually enough to get it working. I wonder some of the same tips that Apple lists for iOS devices not being recognized by iTunes would work for Apple TV as well.
Mac: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X
WIndows: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • How do I get a movie purchased on my 3rd gen Apple TV to play on my 1st gen Apple TV?

I purchased and watched a move on my 3rd gen Apple TV a few weeks ago.  Now I want to watch it in another room where I have an older HD based Apple TV (1st gen I think).  When I look in iTunes on my computer, I can see that it's listed as being available in my account in the cloud.  I can't see it from my older Apple TV.  I don't want to have to keep this on my computer given it's size (5GB), so the solution of downloading to my PC and syncing isn't too attractive.

AppleTV 1 is not aware of movies in the cloud so your only option to get the movie onto there is to download the HD version to iTunes and sync or buy it again direct on AppleTV.
You may be able to do a manual sync, then delete from iTunes but next time you sync if the item is not in itunes it will likely go from ATV1.
Remember ATV1 will not play the 1080p HD version as it maxes out for video decoding with teh 720p ones even thouigh it can be set up for 1080p upscaled output.
Have you considered keeping larger items on an external drive ?  You can mix and match locations for media in various ways eg with smaller music files on the main hard drive (eg laptop) and larger video files on an external only available for playback or syncing when plugged in.

  • The user acct my apple was connected to no longer works (corrupt).  My Apple TV is still synced to that account and all of my recent purchases are going to that username.  Does anyone know how to get all of the purchased items back and to the new user?

The user profile my appleTV was synced on my computer to no longer works (corrupt).  My Apple TV is still synced to that profile and all of my recent purchases are going to that username.  Does anyone know how to get all of the purchased items back and to the new user (same computer)?  I created a new user on my computer and moved the itunes folder to the desktop but never changed the path to which the apple synced to.  Now I can only see old items I purchased before the user profile went bad.  PLease help!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Changing the library the Apple TV is synced with will delete all synced content from the Apple TV, but it won't delete purchased content.
You should be able to change the library, resync any content you want and transfer your purchases back to the new library.

  • Unable to reset 3rd gen Apple TV via iTunes

3rd Gen Apple TV started flashing.  Screen is completely black, so plugged in to computer at present as Apple suggests, but there is nothing on iTunes as shown to allow me to reset the Apple TV.  Any suggestions?

Did you follow the steps? Unplug all cables, connect micro usb, then power.

Make sure you are connecting directly to computer, not a keyboard or USB hub. Try a different cable

Do you clean your iPad screen?  Do not use standard window cleaners, with ammonia or alcohol, like Windex, but a damp towel, followed by a micro-fibre cloth is recommended.  There are also cleaners you can buy which are specifically designed for iPad/iPhone devices, such as iClean from Monster.

  • 3rd gen atv drop wifi Internet connection?

Why does my new 3rd gen atv drop wifi Internet connection? 2nd gen in bedroom works fine

    Hi Gvegastiger,
The problem might be just with your iMac, so I will suggest you to check your firewall on your iMac, and if it is on make sure you are allowing incoming traffic in the area you need to work with...
Second I would check the Proxy settings on your iMac as well under Network profile. Also for troubleshooting purposes leave the IP address DHCP if you have it set static. And Under Network/Ethernet make sure you have it set "Automatically"
Third make sure you use ether Wireless or just Wired connection, not both. I don't know your network layout but if you have to separate networks that will be a problem when you have both of them enabled on separate networks.
Let me know if this helps,
    Goran

  • Why is the Beats Music app only available on the 3rd Gen Apple TV? This is very irritating.

Why is the Beats Music app only available on the 3rd Gen Apple TV? This is very irritating.

Apple TV 2 has reached the end of it's iOS updates. there really won't be any more and the focus will be mainly on the Apple TV 3.
You can sell the ATV2  for a few hundred dollars on eBay because the ATV2 is special in a way that I can't mention here. Use the money to buy an ATV3.
I am in no hurry to do so myself and will continue using my ATV2 for some time.

  • I have iTunes 11 on a Windows 8.1 PC. It is streaming to a 3rd Gen Apple TV. Movies and TV Shows seem to play fine. Music will stream for about 10 - 16 songs, then just stop. I have to reset everything, then it will repeat the cycle. Wire or wireless.

I have to reset everything, then it will repeat the cycle. This happens regardless of wire or wireless connection. I would suspect that there is something wrong with the network, or Apple TV, except that movies and TV Shows seem to be fine. My music library is about 3700 songs, all legit, either imported from source or puchased through iTunes. This one has me stumped and frustrated!

I thought that may have been the case too. I set the power settings to compensate but still the same. I also done things like reset the router and Apple TV to factory. Starting to think it may actually be the Apple TV, but it just doesn't make sense ?!?

  • TS1702 Can't mirror AT&T uverse app from any device using the 3rd gen Apple TV.

Can't mirror AT&T uverse app from any device using the 3rd gen Apple TV. It keeps saying "external device detected". Is their any way around this?

I also was able to complete the download after removing the Ethernet cable and connecting via wireless to my router.  This also fixed my problem of not being able to view my Photo Stream

Hold down the on/off button and the home button for 20 to 30 sec, when the iPod starts and the Apple logo is on the screen release the on/off button but continue to hold the home button until you see the plug into iTunes screen.  Connect the iPod to iTunes and you should be good to go.

    Hi,
    Beacon Interval - 400
    Threshold - 2346
    RTS - 2347
    DTIM interval - 1
    CTS protection mode - Disabled
    Basic rate - Default
    Transmittion rate - Auto(Negotiating)
So the other client must have that settings on network adapter Control Panel->Network Connections->configure->Link Speed Duplex - Auto(Default settings).
I hope that to be helpfull for you,if not please let me know.

  • Black screen on 3rd Gen Apple TV 5.0.1?

Yesterday I installed the 3rd Gen Apple TV (1080p) in place of the 2nd Gen (720p) in my home set-up.
I used the same kit and connections as for the 2nd Gen: ethernet, HDMI to Denon AVR-1909, the Denon outputs to a Sony 1080p TV.
I get a totally black screen, and indeed the Denon fails to register the incoming HDMI feed from the Apple TV.
I have had a good root around in the Denon menus using the manual and it is set up to auto process an incoming HDMI feed on HDMI 1.3a up to 1080p and up to 60hz.
Connecting directly to the Sony TV (bypassing the Denon) I am able to get video and audio out of the Apple TV unit (and thus updated the software to 5.0.1).
Having done some reading it sounds like an "HDMI handshake issue" between the 3rd Gen Apple TV and the Denon.
This issue is not replicated with the 2nd Gen device, even having updatied it to 5.0.1.
So, my question is: has anyone encountered and solved this issue?
I am now considering connecting the Apple TV to the Sony directly by HDMI and using a digital optical audio to output to the Denon for the sound.
Many thanks for your thoughts and tips!

I got almost the same problem.
I'm streaming video from an IPhone 4S using AirPlay to my AppleTV3 with SW 5.1(5201).  After a few minutes the screen saver kicks in but the audio from the video is still playing. By pressing the directional buttons on the Apple remote the screen saver disappear and the video is back.
This is an annoying bug that's been around for a few years.
