MBP Late 2009 Trackpad Problem

Hi,
I recently updated to Mountain Lion.  During that process, I realised that the mechanical click on the trackpad is not working.  At the end of the instalation, where it asks you to accept the terms and condiotns, I was trying to click on accept ,but with no avail.  Just to be clear, it is pysically clicking (you can hear the ticks) but its not regestring the click.  I dont know if the problem existed before the ML update or not, since I ve always been using the tap to click feature.  I know it was working about a month ago as I had to boot into dignostic mode to do a disk repair, where tap to click is not operative.  But wether the click broke down after that incident, or after the ML upgrade, I really dont know.
I am okay with the tap to click for, but the problem I know I will face is when I try to log in to diagonsitic mode, or even at the user switch screen, where tap to click is non operative.
I  read about a similar problem with the battery bulging, but that prevented the clicking all together. But I think its not my case since the clicking is working, but its just not registering.
I currently reside outside the US, and there is no Apple technicians in my area.  I was wondering if there is anything that I can do myself to take care of this issue.  Your thoughts are highly appreciated..
Thanks
Kadi

So I deleted cache files for various apps (incl. finder) and ran several tools (ie. mycleanmac) and still the same behaviour:
Whenever the finder has to update some settings, ie. disks, networks, screens, outputs... it hangs for a full minute and then goes on.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance

  • MBP(Late 2009) Heating up

Hello, I currently have Late 2009 MBP 2.53 Core 2 Duo, 4 GB DDR3, NVidia 9600M GT (activated).
I wanted to know if it is normal to have the CPU temperature at around 70 C and fan at 3300rpm with only FireFox running taking 15% of the CPU?
Also when i run a game the temperature peaks at 91 C fan at 6300rpm and starts to run slow, while it goes smooth at the beginning when CPU is at 80 C. (Game is L4D2 with Source engine)
Readings taken from SMC Fan Control app.
Is there something to be concerned about?
    Thanks.

  • MBP Late 2009 won't wake up from deep hybernation

I have a MBP late 2009 with a battery at the end of its live.  I use this MBP mainly as a desktop computer with a Henge Dock to run some virtual machines.  A month ago I had this power failure, the MBP battery got depleted and the MBP went to hybernate.  When the power came back, I tried to turn on the MBP without luck. It made no sound or any sign of activity.  After reading some advices here, I let the MBP unplugged for about 3 days, then made a PRAM and SMC reset, connected it again to the power cord and turned on. This time the MBP did turned on and resumed  from the hybernation state, therefore there were no mainboard failure or anything.
A couple of weeks ago I unplugged the MBP for a short travel and when I arrived and tried to turn it on, it again didn't.  I left it unplugged for 4 days, did the same PRAM and SMC reset but this time I had no luck and, until today, the MBP still refuses to turn on. I reconected the MBP to the power cord to let the battery to fully charge and still won't power up, so I am now short of options.
Any ideas or suggestions, other than "take it to the apple service center"?

  • MBP late 2009 getting delays/timeouts while mount/dismount or plug/unplug

    sigh
    Running a MBP late 2009 with 3GHz, 8GB RAM and 500GB HDD (300GB free).
When I mount/dismount a drive it takes up to 1 min for the finder to respond again (getting the whirling ball).
When I plug/unplug headphones it takes up to 1 min for the finder to respond again
    (getting the whirling ball).
Shutting down means it gets to to final screen and stays there for 2 min, then it powers down.
After any restart, it would mount/dismount plug/unplug fast (within 1 or 2 sec's). Then after a few min's, above behaviour starts.
So I do not get any crashes. I get delays where the finder is blocked for up to 1 min.
I updated to 10.6.4 some weeks ago and it started around that time.
    What can I do?

  • MBP Late 2009 Freezing when switching from app to app (i.e. Safari to iTunes)

For the first time yesterday, my MBP Late 2009 started giving me the spinning color wheel for about 1-2 minutes when I would switch from application to application (Safari, to iTunes) So I held the power button to shut it down, and when I turned it back on it just stayed at the blue screen.  THen when I finally got it back on, my desktop background was gone and now I can't open my Microsoft Word, it automatically shuts down saying there was an error.  Please, any help would be GREAT!

Tried it, and it wont work. Now my computer won't even shut down....any other solutions?
Have you tried force quitting the Finder?  Doing this will force your computer to restart.  If this works try -
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
If the above does not work and you have Apple Care, call them.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Problems with MBP late 2009 + Dell U2711 + DVI Dual-Link

    Hi!
I'm new to Apple Communities. I've been using for quite a long time my MBP with my Dell U2711 monitor. Sometimes it works perfect. But other times, just after bootup or reasume the display doesn't work properly.
Some times it doesn't detect the signal of the MBP and doesn't start.
Other times it displays the right image but with something like "noise" in every color.
The only solution I found is to turn off and on the display or if it doesn't start, forcing it touching the menu button to start up. If it appears noise and I just change the source and put it back again it works fine.
It has only happened me with this computer. I have also used it with a custom made computer with a GTX280 and never had a problem with it.
I tried to boot up with the 2 different graphics cards my MBP has, and with both I have the problem. I even had the problem using the "normal" DVI adapter. I suppose it must be something of the computer firmware. Some times, if I restart the computer using only the U2711 display. The bootup logo and loading is displayed fine. But when it displays the login window the noise starts.
I've always had this problem. It isn't something that started happening one day. I even reinstalled Mac OS X.
I'ts really strange and I found nobody who has the same problem. I hope someone has a solution.
If someone doesn't understand what I call "noise", please, tell me and I will post a photo of it.
Thanks in advance (and sorry for my English)

Double posting. Everyone, ignore this here and follow that one instead.

  • New Hard drive doesn't show up (MBP late 2009)

I have a 2009 Macbook Pro that was running Lion. The HDD failed so I installed a new one. This blank HD had no OS on it so I get the blinking question mark (the problem that started it all). I found my old snow leopard disk and tried booting from the disk. Each time I tried this I got hung up on the screen that just shows an apple and a little swirly time thing. I also tried booting holding option so that I could select exactly what I wanted to do. When I tried this, I noticed that there is no HDD showing up next to the picture of the disk. I know this is not normal because on my (working) iMac, it shows both my hard drives and the snow leopard disk. I recently went to the "Genius" bar where they performed a diagnostic. The test showed that the SATA cable, logic board, and HDD were all in place and properly functioning. I have already reformatetd the new hard drive through target disk mode on my iMac. I have no idea what else to try. I've let it run for several hours and all I get is an apple with the swirly time thing and a very hot laptop.

Hold down Option while you start up. Only the DVD will be shown, because the new drive is not yet bootable.
Choose the DVD and click the proceed arrow. It should proceed within one minute.
"A Mac that cannot boot from an appropriate System/Utilities DVD has a Hardware problem."
You should soon get the "What Language ?" screen and be able to proceed to Install.
If you cannot Install because of the Drive, answer only the What language question, and WAIT a quarter minute for the MenuBar to be drawn, then choose Disk Utility from the Utilities Menu.
Make sure the new drive is present, and has GUID Partition Map and a Mac OS X Volume in Mac OS X Extended, Journaled.

  • ...Another Spill. MBP Keyboard Backlight/trackpad problem

    Hello,
A friend (yes he remains a friend) recently spilled red wine all over my new Macbook Pro. I was very upset at first, but have calmed down... after several weeks. I've dried it out and I'm taking it to Apple to get it cleaned.
The only clear problems that exist at the moment: the keyboard is not illuminating fully, it is only bright in the middle; the tap-to-click feature on the trackpad has a one-second delay before any command is registered.
The problem with the keyboard backlight, i think, is due to wine staining the sheet of plastic separating the keyboard from the LEDs behind it. Could anyone suggest a means of cleaning this or any other method of reviving the backlight, IF they have not short-circuited.
Any suggestions other than getting Apple to help with the unresponsive trackpad?
    Thanks
    Jamie

What I was trying to communicate when I added "which will also include the trackpad" to a previous post was that the top case, the keyboard, the trackpad and various other internal parts that are attached to the inside of the top case will ALL be replaced when Apple repairs the machine, because Apple considers the whole assembly to be one part. Cleaning the keyboard effectively is impossible, but it would be pointless even if it were possible, because Apple is just going to discard or recycle it. When Apple repairs a machine, it comes back in virtual like-new condition — there are no partial repairs. You may prefer not to spring for a complete overhaul, but that's what you're going to get — and pay for — regardless.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 13" late 2013 Trackpad Problem

    Hallo zusammen...
Alleine heute ganze 4 mal.
Vielleicht kann mir ja hier jemand weiterhelfen, weil beim Support weiß auch keiner weiter!
    Danke im voraus

  • MBP late 2007 startup problem - Help!

I have an MBP from Nov. 07 that only displays the magnifying glass search icon upon startup. When I restarted in safe mode, I download the latest firmware update and installed it carefully following the instructions. When my computer automatically restarted, it still only displayed the magnifying glass search icon. So here I am in safe mode, without a clue what to do to fix my poor MBP. Help!

If it starts up fine in "safe" mode, amandamuses, it is very unlikely to be a hardware issue (though there are a couple of situations where airport card or bluetooth problems can cause such things) .
If it isn't directory corruption, (follow the process with Disk Utility suggested by PBookie but "Repair Disk" as well as "repairing permissions"), then my next step, before checking things like RAM, would be an "Archive and Install" of the OS. THis will usually resolve situations where a computer will start in "Safe" mode , but not in the normal fashion.
If you have any peripherals attached (especially third party keyboards or mice, USB hubs, external hard drives etc) you should also disconnect them while you are "troubleshooting".
    Cheers
    Rod

  • IMac Late 2009 Internet Problem!

I have been experiencing something odd since I upgraded to Lion. I was not losing wifi signal, but I am connected to my
router full on and some pages choose to open and others do not.
So I downgraded back to 10.6.8 and it carried over with it.
I then did a fresh install and everything was good till again for the last 3 months I will be cruising the net
and BAM! I cannot open certain pages. So I either have to hit empty Cache on Safari or Turn Airport Off and
then back On. I even deleted Safari and reinstalled it. But this issue happens to all browsers as well...Firefox,Chrome, ETC.....
I have checked all Firewall settings, I have deleted my airport card and then +'ed it on again.
I am really at a lose here.
The thing I do not get is it Software or Hardware? I am connected to my router and it just will not pull up random pages.
Then I go to another page and its working. I use CLEAN MY MAC and make sure everything is clean once a week.
My father owns a new 27" iMac and never has this isssue at all. So I do know its not my router.
My iMac is a December 2009 3.06 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo and 8 gigs of 1067 in it.
Please let me know if I should ask this in another thread or any information in general.
    THANKS
    JOSHUA

    Hi Gvegastiger,
The problem might be just with your iMac, so I will suggest you to check your firewall on your iMac, and if it is on make sure you are allowing incoming traffic in the area you need to work with...
Second I would check the Proxy settings on your iMac as well under Network profile. Also for troubleshooting purposes leave the IP address DHCP if you have it set static. And Under Network/Ethernet make sure you have it set "Automatically"
Third make sure you use ether Wireless or just Wired connection, not both. I don't know your network layout but if you have to separate networks that will be a problem when you have both of them enabled on separate networks.
Let me know if this helps,
    Goran

  • Avoid overclock after ram upgrade on MBP late 2009

Hi guys, I'm from italy so please accept my poor english.
    The problem is the following:
I installed a couple of 4gb ram 1066 (together with a 256 SSD) and all works fine but after the upgrade the computer heats very easly.
It reaches temperatures of 70-80° (celsius) if cpu usage goes over 50-60%.
I managed it with smc-fan-control, even if it is not namely correct.
Today I was editing a video in iMovie and I recognised that in activity monitor the cpu usage wass telling 170% with respect to iMoive process.
    Is it possible???
iStat pro always tells me max 100%, but probably it's wrong because if really an overclock occured it explains my problems of temperatures after the upgrade.
Moreover, I never see a RAM usage more than a couple of Gb, so it seems that the ram is recognised, but not used properly!!
Running iBench the ram seemed to be used a lot, well above 6Gb.
    Please help me

No overclocking going on. You have a dual core cpu which can have 200% cpu activity, 100% for each core. 100 + 100 % equals 200%.
Yes doing video editing put a stain on the system and it will heat up. Since your mac is a few years old it might have some dust build up in the fans or heatsink cooling fins. Use some compressed air to blow them out.

  • Mbp late 2009- switching from 9600/9400

Is it not possible to set the graphics card to use the 9600 when connected to a power source
and the 9400 when its on battery power
I see the setting to allow me to change this- but whenever I switch one setting (the other one changes as well)
cant figure out how to do this

No, it isn't, because a log-out and back in again is always necessary when making the switch.

  • MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 Problems with iMac 27" Late 2009 TDM

    Hi,
I just got problems with my iMac 27" Late 2009 (Mini-DisplayPort) and my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 (Thunderbolt).
When I try to use my iMac as external monitor for my MacBook, there are massive glitches and graphical bugs on my second screen.
I bought a MDP-to-MDP wire from Belkin which works perfect on other computers.
    I tried these things:
    - Disconnected MagSafe from MacBook + unplugged all USB devices + switched graphics to discrete.
    - Shut down all computers ... then booted MBP, iMac and triggered CMD+F2
    - SMC, PRAM reset on both devices
    The cable works, because:
17" MacBook Pro Late 2011 works perfectly on my iMac screen with my Belkin wire!
I connected my MacBook Pro 15" to a 27" Cinema Display and it works flawless.
After that I plugged it out and tested it again with my iMac screen -> suddenly it works.
Retriggering CMD+F2 or replugging breaks it again with massive bugs.
The MacBook Pro 17" is on 10.7.2, 15" is on 10.7.3, but I also tried to trigger dual screen in 10.7.0 setup with the same issue.
Maybe its a problem with the internal 6750M of my MacBook Pro 15"?
The 6770M of the 17" is working well.
    Sample Video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_pgc52syes
All updates/firmware updates of iMac and MacBook Pro are installed.
    Any solutions?
    Greets,
