MBP3.1 can't run 30-inch cinema display

I used my 30-inch Cinema Display on a G5 for quite awhile, but had to switch to my MacBook Pro when key apps like FC Pro required an Intel Mac. Since running it on my MBP 2.2 (Model A1226, introduced in 2007)/4 GB Ram/upgraded to 500GB drive I've had on-going problems with screen flickering, freezes and automatic rebooting.
I've had  Apple replace the graphic display and the mother board twice, and the problem continues. Apple claims that the MBP can drive the display, but it doesn't look as if they're right. My laptop has none of the problems when disconnected from the display.
Has anyone else had this problem?

You don't say what connection adaptor you are using. See this Apple support post to see if it applies to you. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3571

  • Can I run my 23" Cinema Display from a Windows PC? What adapters would I need and graphics card if any?

I need to buy a Windows PC Notebook and want to make sure there are adapters or if necessary video cards for it to run my 23" Apple Cinema Display.
(I'd prefer not having to get a separate monitor for the pc windows only jobs).
If anyone else does this, how does it work out for you? Any tips?

OOPs all. I looked at the other posts and see my answer.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Can my G5 support upgrade to the 30-inch Cinema Display?

I'm a book designer working in Adobe's Creative Suite and would LOVE to purchase a 30-inch Cinema Display, especially now that Apple has dropped the price. My G5 is 3 years old and currently connected to a 5-year-old 22-inch Apple cinema display. If I were able to upgrade to the 30-inch display what would I need in addition, other than the NVIDIA GForce 6800 Ultra Graphics Card (which I'm having difficulty finding online)?

I recently went through this, and ended up having to return the 30" for 2 23".
You have to determine whether you have a PCI bay for graphics and other cards( there are many PCI graphics cards that will run the 30") or the older ADP configuration (for which there is one Radeon card, which is currently unavailable, and according to ATI's own customer service, not certain if they are actually in production!).
If you've got PCI bays, you're in business. But I have ADP and my 30 inch was running at 1024x768 resolution and it was a nightmare. Fortunately, the store swapped out for two smaller ones, which run fine with my current card.
It took me over a month to find this out, so I hope you can save some aggravation! Bob Krist

  • Can i use Apple 2005 20-inche cinema display on Mac pro ?

can i use Apple 2005 20-inche cinema display on Mac pro ?

If the display has a DVI connector it will plug into the Mac Pro directly.  If it uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
you will need a DVI to ADC adapter

  • Best performance dual 30 inch cinema displays   dual x1900 card(s) ?

I am trying to get the maximum performance out of my system. I have a Mac Pro with two 30 inch cinema displays. I have them both connected to one X1900 card.
I use LightRoom as my photo work flow manager. I spread the library across both monitors as I sort thru photos.
Performance is good but sorting thru several thousand RAW files I need every bit of speed I can get.
Would I get better performance if I used two x1900 cards, one for each monitor? how about the 7300 or the FX4500? would those improve speed or better just for gaming?
thanks in advance for any help.

Two Quad-core with 8-16GB RAM, and your media fles on RAID.
I'd configure with 4 x 750GB WD RE2s. Can't easily swap or upgrade cpu so that is a given until you know and Apple has something that would make sense to buy/swap to newer faster systems (maybe in a year or next summer).
There is no support for two 16x lane slots. Maybe in the future but not now.
I doubt your performance is limited or factor of the twin 30s on the Radeon. It might. Try running with just one monitor for a few hours.

  • What are the video card requirements for running a 23" cinema display

    Hi Lionel,
As a general rule of thumb, the ATI Rage 128 Pro will not support a 20" LCD. That being said, there are reports of it doing just that (possibly the edition that went into the cube).
I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of the Cube, so I can't give you authoritative information on it.

  • 32 inch Cinema Display turns off repeatedly?

32 inch Cinema Display has taken to turning itself off afer 30 minutes operation.
Can this fault be repaired or should I be looking at buying a new display?

I have a 20" Cinema Display connected to an early 2008 MacPro. After years of service the monitor suddenly started going black, quite randomly. It would even happen part way through playing an edit from FCP. Strangely audio would be maintained though picture was lost. If I switched monitor power off and on again I would usually restore video image. Sometimes I had to do this power cycling repeatedly.
Looking through other posts it seemed a failure of the internal power unit was the most likely cause of the problem. But replacement seemed risky and not guaranteed. I considered buying a new monitor (probably a Dell UltraSharp since the Apple monitors are now so expensive).
Then I tried something else. In System Preferences and then Energy Saver I set the Computer Sleep slider to 25 minutes (I had always previously kept it on 15 minutes). Bingo! Problem solved.
Maybe this won't work for everyone but it certainly saved me some cash outlay. For now.

  • MacBook Pro W/30-inch Cinema Display

Is there a working solution for this yet? is it possible to use the 30 inch or even a 23 inch?
    If so how?

Let me better word the question.
Can Windows XP Support the 30 inch cinema display at full resolution like in can in leopard via boot camp? Or a 23 Inch?
    Thanks

  • Older 20-inch Cinema Display powering on and off repeatedly

I recently inherited an older (clear) 20-inch Cinema Display that I'm trying to use with my G5 dual 2.3 running 10.4.8. After purchasing the expensive DVI to ADC adapter and hooking it up, everything worked fine for about maybe 20 minutes or so until the display started to cycle on and off every two or three seconds (off for a couple seconds, then on for a couple seconds, repeat endlessly). This is accompanied by the power button glowing on and then off so it seems as if the power is cycling on and off by itself.
Any ideas? At first I suspected the ADC/DVI adapter which got really hot when in use, but letting it cool down had no effect on the monitor's behavior. My clunky old 19" CRT display works with no problems, so it's not the video card. The Cinema Display is my old monitor from work, and never had any performance issues, although it's been in storage for almost a year.
    PowerMac G5 Dual 2.3 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Same thing is happening to me. I have the 20" Cinema Display (clear with ADC).
Last night I was in another room and all of a sudden I heard my G4 (Digital Audio) restart. I thought I was hearing things. Then about 3 minutes later I heard it again. I thought my daughter was up working on the computer or something. So I went up and there was no one around, but the computer kept restarting every 1 or two minutes. It was very strange – sometimes it it would go to sleep in the middle of the boot process.
I was able to stop this process eventually by disabling the display power button in the Energy Saver and Displays prefs panels. But I would like this feature to be functional since it makes my setup easier to use for my kids.

  • 20 Inch Cinema Display Went Black

i just rebooted my mac mini that is connected to a 20 inch Cinema Display and the monitor never came back to life. The screen is totally black and the firewire, USB and video cables are plugged into the computer fine. When I look at the computer on Remote Desktop from my laptop i can see that the mac mini is fine. i can also see that when i hit the on/off button on the display that it prompts the shutdown/restart popup on the mac mini so it is communicating with the mac mini. i have also plugged the display into my PB and again I get the shutdown popup when i hit the display's on/off button. is there anything to do to bring it back to life or is it dead? its not even a year old.

    Hey,
Same problem happening here, You described it exactly. Even the magenta box. Mine also happens most in the open windows, not when the desktop. I am trying to figure out when exactly it is happening. The third item I have issues with is that blocks of data are 'stuck' in a genie expansion like motion so it is blurred and dot displaying in that 3x3 inch square section. Could have something to do with refreshing? Sometimes I notice the window will fix if I manually resize the window.
Hope this helps any one who is trying to help us out.

  • Black band on my 30 inch cinema display. Any known causes?

    Hey everyone,
My 30 inch cinema display is doing some wierd things which I havent encountered before.
If you can see the image, towards the LEFT SIDE CENTRE, there are these BLACK BANDS.
these start to appear after about 5-15 mins after the display is turned on. although they dont show up on bright backgrounds.
If I let to monitor cool down for 10 mins and start it up again they are gone and they start appearing again in about a min or two,
Has anyone seen any such issues before or is this a known issue with the 30 inch.
Any ideas on what I should do about this.
I will be taking it to Apple for sure as its still under warranty but would like to know
what is causing this and whats apples take on it.
    Cheers,
    Ani

I bought a 30inch as well a couple of months ago but have very little use except for watching movies. But when I use grey colour as the background the banding mark became very noticeable. It seems to be some kind of design issue i suppose and I dont know how Apple is going to address this. It's not a cheap monitor after all and i am very disappointed with this.

  • Help I need a "power brick" for my 30-inch cinema display!!!!!

I recently moved and lost my "power suppy brick" for my 30-inch cinema display..How do I get another one?? The Applestore wanted my old one to do a even exchange?? But I can't do that...And they don't sell the product as a replacement. I'm stuck with a 2 month old display I can't even use! Any ideas???
    Sony Vaio   Windows XP

If the display is covered by AppleCare call 1(800)275-2273 and ask for a replacement power adapter. They will send the new unit first, and you are supposed to return the bad unit. You give them a credit card number when you order the part, so they can charge you, if for some reason they don't receive the old part.
