MBR fix for Windows 7 thinkpads?

I really need to resolve this issue. My MBR is "broken" (restored to a non-lenovo stock Windows 7 MBR)  and now all my lenovo software and a lot of my hardware's software won't work. e.g. Intel graphics control panel, lenovo system update, lenovo power manager, etc... While loading any of these, I get "<application name> has stopped working....".
Background:
I previously removed a dual boot of Fedora I installed. However, the grub boot loader remained and I wanted to get rid of it. Normally Lenovo's Rescue and Recovery can be used to restore the boot loader (and remove grub), but I couldn't load R&R nor install a newer version. From what I could understand from reading online, R&R required the lenovo boot loader installed to work properly so I couldn't use it to restore my boot loader - a classic Catch 22.
I decided to borrow a windows 7 CD to use the repair feature. It worked by restoring windows 7's boot loader. However, ever since I did this, a lot of the preinstalled applications I listed above do not work anymore. None of the lenovo software work for sure. I have tried to reinstall some with no luck.
My best guess is that I can't use Window's MBR, but instead need to restore Lenovo's MBR / bootloader. However, after a search online I found Lenovo only provides the MBR fix for windows XP and 2000, not 7.
Any suggestions?

Fixing the MBR shouldn't alter the functionality of programs, unless you've changed the drive letter somehow.
Reinstalling R&R within Windows should get it to work again, though.

I am unable to uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Support from my PC which is necessary in the fix for iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows.  Can anyone help?

If the "Repair first, then try an uninstall" trick didn't work for you, try using the fixit from the following Microsoft document to remove Apple Mobile Device Support:

  • Need to find a fix for Windows XP 64bit

I just don't understand how apple has negeleted to make a download version of Itunes to work with Windows XP 64-bit OS. It seems to me that I'm not the only one here that feels the same and has had issues installing Itunes on there machine. I just purchased a new machine over the weekend to find out that Itunes doesn't work. No where in the specifications of the IPOD touch does it say it doesn't operate with Windows XP 64bit. It just says Windows XP. Is there going to be a fix for this? Let me know if any one has found a solution to this matter.

Apple has never supported the 64-bit version of Windows XP, and at this point probably never will since Microsoft themselves are dropping support for it. If you search the iTunes for Windows forums for "XP 64", you'll find threads discussing how people have managed to "crowbar" the version of iTunes for 64-bit Vista and WIndows 7 to XP 64, but the level of success has been less than 100%.
There are third-party utilities such as MediaMonkey, Anapod, Ephpod, or Xplay for handling transfer of content to your iPod . I haven't used any of these, so I can't make any recommendations. These applications cannot connect to the iTunes Store, so you will not be able to purchase content from the Store. The applications may also may not work with the most recent iPods, so confirm compatbility with your iPod model.
Upgrading to Vista or Windows 7 will probably be your best option for the long term, though.
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck.

  • Proper Fix for Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets not Displaying Correctly

This is not a question, this is an answer to a common problem with an easy solution.
DO NOT delete the registry subkey "Zones" the proper method to restore your gadgets is much simpler.
    Here is the proper fix:
    Right-Click Taskbar > Task Manager
    Right-Click sidebar.exe > End Process
    Start > Run (Windows Key + R)
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\
Delete the Settings.ini file in this folder.
(If you do not have extensions showing it will just read "Settings" in the [Name] column with "Configuration settings" in the [Type] column)
    Right-Click Desktop > Gadgets
Place your gadgets on your desktop.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your sharing.
You may refer to the following KB to check the issue:
Windows 7 gadgets may not work or be displayed correctly
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2515657
    Thanks again.
There is some great information, however it doesn't include the fix I mentioned. That's the whole reason I mentioned it. Referring to the KB does nothing, instead of providing autonomous replies try reading the title and content.

  • Found a fix for windows not recognizing vision M, possible for oth

I went through the same frustration as so many people about windows not recognizing my vision M. Here's how I solved it. Go to device manager (right click on My Computer, choose manage then device manager) go to the unrecognized usb device, right click and choose update driver. choose no fior connecting to windiows update, then install software from a specific location, now choose don't search, I will choose the driver to install, find and install the driver for portable devices called MTP device. this should solve the issue. this is only for players not recognized by windows. I'm not sure if some versions of wondows can't figure out where to find the driver or what.

Yes that is one way to get it working

  • Bug 3935860 - Any fix for Windows ?

    Hi,
I have found that the Bug 3935860 was the root of our problem as mentioning in the Note:300232.1. I have upgrade to 9.0.4.2 but the error still happens.
    Any patch so far ?
    Pls advice.

You can see for yourself at metalink that the status is "Code Bug (Response/Resolution)". This means the fix is still under development. However the severity is set at "Minimal Loss of Service". A workaround is given (increase timeout). If this is not acceptable I would advise contacting Support to explain why you really need a fix.
You can ask them to raise the severity and if it really a showstopper you can ask to escalate the bug. Anyhow, this sort of detailed questions about bugs and fixes can better be asked at Oracle support (http://metalink.oracle.com) than in a public forum like this one on OTN.

  • Charging: Fix for Windows 2000 yet?

I have read in a few different places on this forum that there is a bug in Windows 2000 which is making it extremely difficult to charge my iPod video. Does anyone have more information on this?
    Thanks
    Andy

I have several USB ports on the laptop, including one that plugs
into the keyboard. When I plug it into the keyboard it sais insufficent
power to use this device. Any of the regular USB ports on the laptop
    do not do this
No one is out to get you but if you included this information in your original post, no additional questions would be required and your question would have been answered.
You are having problems charging your iPod when connected to the USB port on the keyboard only and this means you are using an external keyboard connected to the laptop - correct?
Although you have USB 2.0, connecting an iPod or any device to an external keyboard with a USB port for charging purposes is not supported since the keyboard does not generate enough power to do so.
Any of the regular USB ports on the laptop do not do this
    Problem solved.

  • Is there a fix for windows 7/adobe conflict

I cannot get PDF files to open with adobe is there a solution?
    Eric

I have been using Windows since version 3.1, and I have never seen that lock on a desktop icon - I don't know what it means.
But it seems that it opens Adobe Reader, which then crashes.
What is your Reader XI version?  If less than 11.0.09, update it to that version.
If it still crashes, try disabling Protected Mode via Windows registry: download, unzip, then run the registry script from https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/176a3701-a688-4d99-a676-bcaada56ab01

This is regarding the failure of iTunes 10.5 to install.  Windows gives message stating Package is Missing some components, or something like that.  I found that my Apple Updater product was not installed, only downloaded.  I installed the Updater (by looking under Programs, All Programs, Apple Product Updater, and installed it.  It then immediately went out, found iTunes 10.5 and Im good to go.

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:

After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

I've tried the RegEdit method posted, but the instructions are somewhat different that my registry keys. Under Adobe Acrobat I have "8.0" and when I enter I have four more folders.  Under Registration I have a default key with "2" and a serial key with my serial number.  I've deleted Acrobat once and reloaded and have the same error.  I can X out and the app works until I open it again.  Then the same registration issue.
