MDM clarifications

Hi All,
Can anybody help me in understading the below issues.
1.When to go for qualified table and when to go for normal lookup table? What is the exact difference?.
2.The MDM XI content only has the employee object interface. What about the other objects like material, customer?. Why is it not delivered as part of the XI content?
  3. Which is the preferred place for mapping i.e. in MDM syndicator or XI mapping step?. For example material, vendor .....object mappings are delivered as part of MDM where as the employee object has XI content. Which solution we have to advice the customers?

see blog at /people/sap.user72/blog/2005/06/14/worlds-fastest-and-shortest-introduction-to-netweaver-mdm-55
it talks exactly about difference between lookup and qualified tables

in SP2 XI content should be provided for all repository schemas going along with the build. I think there are four of them (but not sure for 100%)

mapping actually occurs in two places - in XI and ImportManager. XI mappping serves for mapping external sources (non necessarilly from SAP) to XML files (in the current release, later it can use other mechanisms). Then to pick up those files and import them to the repository the ImportManager uses its mapping. So there is no question which of the mappings to use. You have to use both.

  • Installation of SRM MDM Catalog

    Hi SAP Mentors,
We are installing SRM MDM Catalog. I needed some clarification regarding the same. The version for SRM MDM Catalog is 7.02. Do I need a SRM 7.02 server with MDM 7.1 installed on it , on which I will be putting SRM MDM Catalog?
Please let me know as we need to start installation Monday. The docs are not very clear.
    Thanks,
    Asad

    Zafar,
Yes. You need to have same release including the patch level. We experienced similar scenario and resolved all issues only after syncing the release and SP level.
    hope it helps.

  • How to map lookup main table field in another main table using MDM 7.1?

We created a new SAP MDM 7.1 repository with multiple main tables.  The first main table is called ProductMaster table which contains Products information.  The ProductCode is the primary key and the only display field for the table during data loading process. The second main table is ProductByRegion table which has a main table lookup field ProductCode and a RegionId field.  These two fields (ProductCode and RegionId) combine as the PK for this main table.  Both main tables have key mapping enabled.
I was able to load ProductMaster table using Import Manager.  But Iu2019m having trouble to load data into ProductByRegion table using MDM Import Manager.  Although I have met all the 5 requirements below (excerpted from MDM Import Manager Reference Guide P.222), the ProductCode wonu2019t show up on the destination value pane.  If I mapped all productCode to NULL field, ProductCode wonu2019t load.  If I u2018Addu2019 all ProductCode to Destination Value pane, the Import Manager added duplicated rows to Product Master table while only loading 1 record to ProductByRegion table.  I canu2019t get ProductCode show up in Matching Destination Field list.  When I checked ProductMaster records in MDM Data Manager, I right-clicked on one of records, chose Edit Key Mappings, it didnu2019t show anything.  However, if I right-clicked on one of those duplicated rows, Edit Key Mapping shows remote system and key correctly.
Where did I do wrong?  How can I fix the problem?
Thank you for help in advance.
From: SAP MDM Import Manager Reference Guide:
Mapping to Main Table Lookup Destination Fields
Import Manager handles main table lookup fields (Lookup [Main])
differently than other MDM lookup fields. Specifically, Import Manager
does not display the complete set of display field values of the records
of the underlying lookup table. Instead, the values it displays for a main
table lookup field are limited by both the key mappings for the lookup
table and the values in the source file.
Also, Import Manager does not automatically display the values of a
Lookup [Main] destination field in the Destination Values grid when you
select the field in the Destination Fields grid. Instead, for a main table
lookup field value to appear in the Destination Values grid, all of the
    following conditions must be met:
u2022 The lookup table must have key mapping enabled
u2022 The lookup field must be mapped to a source field
u2022 The source field must contain key values for the lookup table
u2022 The destination value must have a key on the current remote system
u2022 The destination valueu2019s key must match a source field value
NOTE ►► The current remote system is the remote system that was
selected in Import Manageru2019s Connect to Source dialog (see
u201CConnecting to a Remote Systemu201D on page 416 for more information).

    Hi Michael,
Thank you very much for your response.  I'm new to SAP MDM, I need some clarification and help regarding your solution.
I did use two maps to load ProductMaster and ProductByRegion separately.  Here were my steps:
    1. create main table ProductMaster with key mapping enabled at the table level and set ProductCode as unique and writable once (primary key).
    2. create a map to load ProductMaster record from a staging table located an oracle database.  But Key mapping didn't show anything when I looked at them using Data Manager.
    3. create main table ProductByRegion with a lookup field looking at ProductMaster table.  This field and RegionId combines as a unique field for ProductByRegion table.
    4. create a map to load ProductByRegion table.  But ProductCode records only shows on the source pane not destination pane and can't be mapped properly.
    My questions:
    1. How can I "Ensure that you add key mapping info for all ProductMaster records" besides enabling Key Mapping on the table level?
    2. How can I define a concatenation of ProductCode and RegionId as a REMOTE KEY"?
Thanks a lot for your help!

  • Vendor Master Fields to be considered for Centralization in SAP MDM

    Hello Experts,
In my present assignment, we have 3 different ECC systems each for three different businesses. Now the objective is to consolidate, Harmonize and centralize the Vendor Master for all these standalone ECC systems in SAP MDM.
So multiple discussions are going on the which Vendor Master fields to be kept as Global fields and which ones as local in Central Vendor Repository in SAP MDM. The debate is whether should we keep "Vendor Account group" as Global field or as Local field in MDM.
The debate is each inidividual business unit has defined different account groups for the same vendor in their respective systems.
The question is : What is the best practice-- Should we keep Vendor account group as main table field and define Vendors with one unique account groups OR we maintain the account group in qualified table each pointing to different business unit.
    Your inputs are highly appreciated
    BR
    PTM

    Hi Manoj
The debate is each inidividual business unit has defined different account groups for the same vendor in their respective systems.
The question is : What is the best practice-- Should we keep Vendor account group as main table field and define Vendors with one unique account groups OR we maintain the account group in qualified table each pointing to different business unit.
In my opinion this is going to be very complex solution. Ideally we need to define all the Harmonization rules before syndicating data to different target systems.
Is this possibel that the same vendor record which is existing as vendor of different account groups in different systems have same set of attributes. If yes then enabling the remote key for Account group Lookup field is one option and defining a unique Account group 'AG" (which is mapped to say AG1 from remote system1, AG2 from remote system2 and so on..)..
Managing this via Qualified table will be very complex and not advisabel. As Rajesh also mentioned Account Group in MDM should be considered as Global attribute and all such harmonization rules should be defined in your project. AG1=AG2=AG in above exmaple.
    Hope this clarifies.
    Thanks-Ravi

  • Adding Record in a MDM table using Java APIs

While inserting records in a table, we have to make sure that if there is any field of type lookup, particular value entered is either present in the lookuptable or we insert in the lookup table.
    two questions/clarifications
    1.     if there are more than one lookup tables, we have to do the same thing for all the tables????
    2.    to insert in the lookup tables, i have to find the record ID of the particular entry in the lookup table and then use the recordid to enter value in the main table. Is it correct??

    Hi Nitin,
You will need to have the value present in the lookup table and then take the record id of that entry from the lookup table to make an entry in the main table record (for all the fields in the main table which are of type lookup).
Sample code: This code is from MDM 5.5 sp4.
    A2iFields Fields = new A2iFields();
    Fields = addField(<recordid from the lookup table>, <Field code in main table>, Fields);
    int RID = catalog.AddRecord(<repository>,Fields, 0, 0);
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,
    Avinash.

  • ABAP API  MDM  vs Standard MDM !!!

Maybe the expression that I am using is not the best one and hope that someone can give me any clarifications.
What I am intending is to know:
    1)     If using ABAP API is the best way to implement MDM purposes or if he’s an alternative to implement MDM using ABAP API?
    2)     In the proof of concept that I am implementing, I only use the principal components of MDM (Import, Data Manager, Syndicator and Console) in order to find the solution of our enterprise business.
    3)     Using ABAP API, I have to use programming method, implement by myself some functionalities in ABAP to connect and resolve my MDM purposes.
    4)     If am not using ABAP API (The way that I am proceeding right now) , I have to use the standard software component (enterprises services ) of the  R3 Systems in order to connect MDM with client systems.
Thanks guy for your assistance. We just want to know the best way to proceed with MDM .

The best method for implementing MDM depends on the requirements of each scenario.  For example, if you have a program in R/3 that needs to pull some data from MDM for analysis then perhaps using the ABAP API would be the best route to take.  If you need to transfer materials or vendors from MDM to various R/3 systems, perhaps using XI would be the best route to take.  I would recommend looking at the <a href="https://websmp106.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700004656452006E">IT Scenario Configuration Guide</a> to get a better understanding of SAP's recommended practices given different scenarios

  • ISE integration with Mobile Device Management ( MDM ) help required

    Dear Techies,
Am here bring to your notice an different issue and no much resources to support even in PEC or Cisco Document.
We are conduction a Proof Of Concept (PoC) on  Secure Bring Your Own Device ( BYOD ) using Cisco ISE and gonna test all the scenarios like Wired, Wireless and VPN user access.
    Setup Brief :
    =========
Our Setup has  ISE VM acting as Admin, Monitor and Profiling Device, we have NAC 3315 physical Appliance as Inline posture Device, Wireless LAN controller, Access point and the Identity source as Microsof Active Directory
Having Plans to Integrate Mobile Device Management ( MDM ) and Citrix VDI setup also.
    Activity Brief:
    =========
As of now we have tested the Wired Scenario Authentication and authorization for guest users and gonna carry out the profiling and posture.
    Clarifications Required
    ================
Wired Scenario - Require some configuration / steps on how to carryout posture for the guest wired users i.e. LAPTOP.
    Wireless Scenario
MDM can be integrated to ISE ?
How the MDM can be integrated to Cisco ISE configuration or Guide to show the same?
What is the demarcation between MDM and ISE ( i.e. What is the role of ISE and MDM on Mobile Devices ) ?
If MDM is available so then when the control of ISE ends, does MDM do management or ISE will do management of the devices ?
Is MDM will do client provisioning or ISE should do ?
Is MDM send or update patches of Mobile Devices ?
As of now these are the scenarios, kindly revert if any good documents to show this or share your expertise on the Integration Part.
    Thanks for Reading...
    Arun

I would like to avail your valuable inputs to understand on the  Client provisioning part for the Mobile Devices/ Laptop. I understand  from your reply that MDM integration is not available in the current  release ISE 1.1 - That is correct.
Kindly let me know your views or any documents on the following scenarios with the current release in mind
    1. User  with Mobile devices connecting to Wireless  ( both Employee  and Guest ) , How the Flow differs for the Employee and Guest.  How the  client provisioning is done ( i.e. Like Posturing  or Compliance Check  ).
The posturing and compliance check is done based on the user authentication information (i.e. AD memberOf vs Guest user) combined with the users endpoint (windows, mac osx, or a mobile device), ISE then has a few decisions to make based on the authorization policies. For example, if a Domain User coming from a Windows 7 machine joins the network, then can either use the nac agent, or the web agent. Then you can scan for registry settings, file settings, program requirements, hotfix compliance...and the list goes on. If the user fails a check then you can either assign an acl for the user so they only have guest access, or you can place them into a remediation vlan the options are entirely up to the requirements and however the solution is implemented.
    2. User  with Laptop  connecting to Wireless  ( both Employee  and Guest ). How the client provisioning is done ( i.e. Like Posturing   or Compliance Check ).
Guests are usually redirected to the guest portal which they authenticate and their user group falls within the Guest container that is on the ISE internal database, that is usually coupled with an authorization profile that grants them internet access. For the client provisioning, that is usually done based on the operating system, via profiling (dhcp, and user agent string., netmap...etc) and can be fine tuned for all laptops or to a specific set of users based on their group membership.
    3. What are advantages of having ISE also in  place for Mobile devices, since most of the Mobile related tasks ( like  Authentication, Authorization, Profiling and  Posture ) are carried out  by MDM. I am checking for the significant advantage of having ISE for  Client network having only Mobile devices. Kindly clarify.
Currently the advantage of Cisco ISE is that it supports profiling within wireless and really fits well within a network that has mostly Cisco products since they are all part of of the Borderless security initiative being driven on the backend. The product teams for wireless, wired, security (vpn..etc) and ISE are pretty close in building their solutions so that you can get connected with any device any where (sorry for the sales pitch). The latests wireless code is improving and is going to have support similar to the ios sensor for wired devices where dhcp, cdp, and other attributes can be sent in the radius packet for better profiling decisions. With integration for an MDM platform coming soon, and also support for TACACS rumored (have to verify with your account rep) you have options that really stand out from a unit that only supports MDM. Cisco ISE also comes with a wireless product ID so that makes the budget work when it comes to deploying ISE if you arent looking for enforcement on your wired devices.
    4. Do you recommend 802.1X Authentication to use for the Employee and Contractor? The Guest user  authentication as Open ?
For internal users and vendors the best option by far is dot1x, almost all operating systems are capable of performing dot1x and the 1.1.1 MR has a piece now that can provision the supplicant for the users, by using scep to enroll certificates or configure peap settings.
There is a feature within the guest portal that allows you to statically assign guests into endpoint group, that feature is called device registration web authentication. It seems like an open network but uses mac filtering to assign these devices to an endpoint without requiring users to enter any credentials. They are presented with an AUP page, once they accept their mac address is mapped to the endpoint group
    5. How can we ensure the Encryption of traffic from the Guest user to the NAD ( Network Access devices ) ?
This may be a wireless question but I am sure the encryption is done using AES and using dot1x as the key management here is a brief background for this - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a00807f42e9.shtml#L2
You can also use the anyconnect client which can provide macsec which is layer 2 encryption for wired - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps6032/ps6094/ps6120/qa_c67-622477_ns1049_Networking_Solutions_Q_and_A.html
    6. We are also looking for VDI  ( Citrix, VMware ) solution for the  client  ( both Employee and Guest ) , how ISE can play a role in  securing the VDI environment.
For most thin clients you can perform dot1x authentication on the device itself, however that is something the manufacturer will have to support. This is a little gray for me.
    7. Is that any integration required  with Citrix or VMware. How the  VDI can be offered based on the User  role ( i.e. Employee, Contractor or Guest ), since Guest database is  available only with ISE, how the checks are made from the VDI  environment.
IN ISE there is an identity sequence which can authenticate users in AD first, if the user is not found then it can look in the internal database.
Our solution demands  MDM in the integrated  solution, As on today ISE cant be integrated with MDM. so what kind of  solution we can propose to have MDM and Cisco ISE .Do the clients now  enter the network should have already installed the MDM agent (or) any  other way of pushing the same to the Client.
Today there is no integration between the devices, the last release time I heard was December for this feature. However it would be best to confirm with your Cisco Account rep on this issue.
    Thanks,
    Tarik Admani

  • Migrating from SRM 7.0 Classic to ECS - Seeking some clarifications

    Hello Friends,
We are now planning to upgrade from SRM 5.0 to SRM 7.0 and then migrated to Classic to ECS. We have the below challenging points which I need clarification,
    1) How do we go about the Taxation and Pricing Part, If we migrate from Classic to ECS
    2) Presently we have R/3 contracts in place and the same is linked to MDM catalogue and now the client wants the contracts to
be in SRM. In that case how do we go about the strategy.
    3) Asset Procurement: Now all WBS element are converting into assets by running the Z-Program in between PR and PO in R/3
system. But when we migrate to ECS PO gets created in SRM, so how do we go about the asset procurement in ECS scenario.
    4) Confirmation and Invoice transferring to R/3 through Idoc distribution Model. Going forward in SRM 7.0 the same will continue or
do we go with SOA. Please confirm.
Further to this can you please let me know, what are all the major challenges for upgrading the system to SRM 7.0 and migration from Classic to ECS.
I would appreciate for you quick response. Points will be awarded for appropriate answers.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ram.

    Ramesh,
    Few inputs for this project
    1. You need to clearly seperate out the upgrate (5.0 to 7.0) and Migration (Classic to ECS) in your project planning to derisk the project i.e. you should have seperate testing cycle time/ efforts for  upgrade and then on migration so that functional/ teachnical team working out in the project can clearly identifies issues between upgrade and migration seperately and work on them.
    2. You have to work with business to make a decision on conversion of old classic PO's (incomplete GR/IR still required) and PO in process (SC created under approval in SRM). I strongly suggest you should not involve into conversion and keep it out of this project.
    3. SRM do have option to take care of your tax configuration. BTW most of the company use external software to calculate tax amount.
    4. You need to build workflow for PO in SRM since now PO will be created in SRM.
    5. You need to create smartform / output determination in SRM for the PO. Please note SAP has provided some consulting notes if you continue to handle document transmission in backend with ECS.
    6. Yes a distribution model needs to be setup for confirmation and Invoice if you are not doing it now in classic scenario.
Asset procurement solution you mentioned looks specific to your Org business needs, you need to explore to fit into new environment.
    All the best
    Thanks, Sachin

  • SRM - MDM Catalog: Price Variation by Plant

    Dear Experts,
My client is seeking to implement SRM 5.0 with MDM-Catalog to interface with their existing R/3 4.7 backend.
Due the nature of their business, the price paid for an item can vary according to plant (as can rebate entitlement, etc).
Can MDM-Catalog store such price variations, and display the appropriate price to the end user in SRM based on their plant?
Thanks in advance for the help - points will be awarded.

    Hi Cherry,
I would like to do something similar. I would like to call the MDM catalog from SRM and hope that MDM can determine the price based on the plant.
I clicked on the link you provided but it contained a lot of other links and does not seem to relate to this issue.
Conceptually, I understand what needs to be done but because I am using MDM specifically for SRM, there is already an existing pricing table in the system. It is currently using non-qualified fields such as Lower Bound unit, purchasing info record id and purchasing organisation. Should I add plant to this table or create a different pricing table?
Also, I feel that I am missing a link here. How does MDM knows where to get the plant data since this field can be anything (plant, division, etc)? Isn't there a need for SRM to pass this plant information over and then how is it mapped to the plant field for the item to ensure that the correct price is being picked up? Or have I totally misunderstood the functionality in that I have to create a mask/named search down to that level so that the user can only see the plant specific data?
Appreciate any clarification to the above.
    Cheers!

  • SAP MDM-BOBJ Integration architecture

    Dear folks,
in one of the solution providing scenarios i need clarification on the architecture of BOBJ and MDM. i have been seeing in the documents that BOBJ server is falling in between source and MDM. However i feel it is more relevent to send a file from MDM to BOBJ and get the data enriched(Data quality) and send back to MDM. That means MDM is falling between source and BOBJ.
please provide some help on this.
    Regards

To start with, the [MDM homepage on SDN |Enterprise Master Data Management]currently features a Webcast showing an MDM-BOBJ data quality services integration case, and a How-to Guide dealing with integrating the BOBJ ETL capabilities with MDM.

  • How to generate multiple records in MDM

    Hi,
    My scenario is-
    I have vendor master.
I have company code table .
In company code table i have 30 different company codes.
Whenever i create a vendor record ,it should create 30 vendor records in Data Manager.
    Is it possible?
    Kindly suggest me ...
    Best Regards
    Devaraj PK

    Hi Devraj,
It is very much possible to create a single records for multiple values.
Like one vendor master should be maintained for more than oner company code. All data except Company code will be same .It will be seen as multiple line items in data manager.
This should be done with help of some external source only. MDM does'nt ahve such funtionality to do it own. FOr this u have to use
    (1) Create in  Portal and then extending records for various company code.
    (2) If you are creating in R/3 and then pulling to MDM then you can create it for one company code and then extend it for rest of teh company code and then pullit to MDM via XI.
For any clarification please do ask me .
    Thanks,
    Rohit

  • MDM Maximum Size

    Hi All!
I am a bit of an MDM newbie having only overview knowledge. As far as I know, MDM keeps all data in main memory while in operation (correct me if wrong).
Now, is there any reference projects or guides regarding the "maximum" DB size of an MDM. Please don't jump on me. I know better hardware -> bigger MDM possible.
But where to find some real-world reference about that topic?

  • SAP MDM Work Flows Status

    Hi Tim,
I am using SP5 not SP4, and workflow also enters in received mode after launched. But after that it goes to TRASH, and this behaviour only comes when i add some new fields to main table. is this the only reason for trash status or something more behind it. and also is it an actual status for workflows or its an uncommon behaviour.
Thanks Tim your suggession really works for me.

In General Console talks about repository structures we cant do any record manipulation. Basically it can be done at MDM DATA Manager level (in recent SPs), earlier its called CLIENT. Launch MDM Client along with the same repository, change workflow as your current table and there you can add records, assign records and launch the same.
    MDM WorkFlow
You can find MDM workflow under Record mode.
MDM there are no Tcodes as we use in SAP R/3.
Basis related stuff is to maintain console which has repoaitories and Role and authorization (user and assignment of Roles to user)
    MDM has four main component
Console, Import Manager, Data Manager, Syndicator.
Please feel free to revert to me for further clarifications.

  • Clarifications on ISE Hardware (SNS-3415)

    Hi Experts,
    Good Day!
I just want to have some clarifications if what I did in my installation it correct.
Basically, my I connected 3 cables in my SNS3415 for my ISE and below is the arrangement of the cables
1 cable is connected to the port dedicated for the CIMC
1 cable is connected to the port dedicated for the ISE MGMT
1 cable is connected to the port for the DATA traffic
My question is, is it correct that I allocated 1 dedicated port for my DATA where the RADIUS traffic from user to the server passes through? Could it work if I configure WEB authentication in ISE?
    Thank you.
    niks

Yes.  In the configuration of the portal for Web Authentication, you can choose the interface that is allowed to respond to the requests.  You can also disallow interfaces from responding.
Go to Administration > Device Portal Management > Client Provisioning
Choose your portal or create a new one.  Allow or disallow interfaces from this page and Save.
Of course, you can do this for any portal that is used (BYOD, MDM, etc).

  • How to access MDM?

Q1. What are the settings require to carryout in MDM and xi to pull the data from MDM to xi?
Q2.What are the settings require to carryout in  XI and MDM to send the data from XI to MDM?

    Hi Suresh,
Q1. What are the settings require to carryout in MDM and xi to pull the data from MDM to xi?
    MDM:
1] Define you remote system in console (Admin Section).
2] Decide the file format to send across to XI. As of now MDM deals with only two fromats  (Text(delimited) and XML) during syndication.

Now Ports plays an important role in connecting MDM with external world.Whenever you want to pull the data from MDM . use Syndicator. In this process "Outbound" Ports are used to wirte MDM data (in the from XML / Text file).
    XI:
1] Once you have the connectivity between MDM and XI (Ports) , XI receives files from MDM.
2] XI then process this data so that target system should be able to understand.
e.g. If you consider target system as SAP system , it receives data from external world in the form of IDOCS. XI does this job of processing XML files from MDM into IDOCS.
Q2.What are the settings require to carryout in XI and MDM to send the data from XI to MDM?
Its exactly the reverse process. The only difference over here is this time data flows from XI to MDM. So again its XI's responsibility to processs data from target system into MDM understandable form (which is again file). This time MDM "Inbound Port" comes into picture.
Refer to same link for more clarification.
You can even automize the complete process using "MDIS (MDM Import Service)" and "MDSS(MDM Syndicator Service)".
