The mdnsresponder will not quit. Consumes above 100% CPU and kills my battery. Also causes my fan to run constantly and my computer to get extremely hot. Force quitting doesn't work. It just comes back. I posted about this earlier and never got an answer. Somebody, please help.
Thanks.
mDNSResponder is a background process that runs all the time. If you kill it, it's relaunched automatically.
Please launch the Console application and select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "mDNSResponder" (without the quotes) in the search field. Post a sample of the log messages in the Console window -- only one example of each repeated message, please.

Ichat consumes over 100% CPU in video chat mode.
Hi,
I just updated my MBP (mid 2009) with new Snow Leopard. Ever since then, some of applications hangs, especially ichat, Mail, iphoto, safari.
Is it normal that iChat consumes over 100% CPU in video chat mode? Does everyone have the same problem?Hello all. Ralph, I really appreciate all of your help on these iChat threads. I too am having the same issues with CPU overload on both of my Macbook Pro 2.16 GHz machines. I believe I may have traced the problem to older, non-Core 2 Duo chip computers such as mine. I have an iChat crazy family - lots of us spread across the country. The ones who have newer machines with a Core 2 Duo do not have this problem. They have super crisp, normal CPU usage (never exceeding 80%) chats. Sadly, this is not the case when I try with either of my Macbook Pro's running the older chips.
To clarify, I have also taken all of the steps mentioned here and in other threads to try to address the problem. I have reinstalled Snow Leopard, adjusted the maximum bandwith to as low as 200 kbps, tested my download, upload speeds, etc. Nothing seems to work. Ichat it essentially useless. I wish I had an answer for this issue. I assume Apple will address this in the next OS update. -

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Quit Safari, find the com.apple.Safari.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder, drag it to the Desktop, log out/in or restart and let us know what happens.

A process by the name of avgcmgr is loading the CPUs by up to 100 percent. At least 5 of them have appeared on the activity monitor. I've removed them with forced quit but they return! How do I permanently get rid of them? Three of these processes has now driven the CPUA temp to 194F.
RayHi Ray-
I'm having the exact same problem and have searched the web for hours looking for a solution (multiple spawned avgcmgr processes that consume cpu).
Did you find any solution?
Thanks so much!

Bought Garageband for iPad1 and it worked like a dream. Then I upgraded my system to 4.3.5 and now Garageband doesn't work. How come? When I try to start it just flickers and then goes back to show the symbol for the app.
I understood what you were saying. You did type 4.3.5 in your post. Several other things to try.
Close all open apps like I described above. Just tap the home button first so that you will be able to access all of your apps. Close every single one and then restart again.
You can also delete the app and download it again. As long as you use the same Apple ID and password there is no charge to download it again. Tap and hold down on the GarageBand app icon until it wiggles. Then tap the X to delete it. Download it again.
Reset the iPad. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen. It takes about 10-15 seconds. Ignore the red slider shut off bar. When the Apple logo appears you can let go of the buttons and the iPad will reboot.
The final thing to try is to download another app - any free app. Sometimes that seems to reset something on the iPad. You can always delete the free app if you don't want it. -

I'm not a "Cloud" member. I just upgraded to Lightroom 6 from Lightroom 5. All was working well yesterday. Today Lightroom will not open (Windows 7). I see the logo photo over my Lightroom platform but nothing loads and I see "Lightroom not responding." I checked the catalogs and see that lrcat-Journal and lrcat-Lock have been created every time I try to open. I have a backup from the first day I upgraded, but Lightroom doesn't want to access it. Should I reinstall?
Well, is the catalogue (and the folder it is in) writable? Have you actually checked the permissions? Lightroom won't be spitting out the error just to tick you off, and - computer wizard or not - this sounds very much like something you'll have to fix at the OS level: it's probably nothing to do with Lightroom or those funny lads at Adobe.
Some light reading for you, courtesy of the site search: https://forums.adobe.com/search.jspa?q=%22+not+writable+and+cannot+be+opened%22&place=%2Fp laces%2F1383621&depth=ALL
It would help to know your OS. -
I have just come back from holiday and started my mac up and I have a white spot next to my Finder, Safari and Mail? why?
Are you talking about the indicator for open applications?
If you're on Lion, it just reopened apps that where open when you shut it down.

Lightroom will not import my photos. It did up to a week ago. I have changed cards and cameras (both worked two weeks ago). I can import the photos to Picasa and iPhoto. I get the following error message:
Some import operations were not performed.
The following files were not imported because they could not be read [followed by a list of the files I wanted to import]
Thumbnails show up. LR just will not import them.
Any idea what is going wrong? If the Import button is not clickable, that means that Lightroom thinks you have no new photos to import (one possible reason is that they are duplicates)
So, you need to figure out why Lightroom thinks that. The way I would do this is to search your Library module for at least one of the photos, by file name. To do this, you would follow all 4 of these steps in sequence:
Click on All Photographs in the Catalog Panel on the left of the Library Module
Turn off all Filters (Ctrl-L or Cmd-L once or twice)
Expand all stacks: Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks
Search for one or more of the photos using the Filter Bar (press backslash), search by File Name -
It will not open for me. I go to the "itunes" tab once i'm in my library, and it says "accessing itunes store" but nothing happens.

I have a photo on iPhoto that will not transfer to my iPhone when it is synced???? Is there something wrong with the photo? the rest of the pictures in the albumn transfer just fine.
We have no way of telling from the information you give.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
