  • Cannot connect to PPPoE?  fibre optic Internet in Japan

    Hi I live in Japan
All the manuals and helplines are in tricky Japanese and I can't find out why I can't connect to the Internet! Help!
I get a message saying "cannot connect to the PPPoE server". It was working fine for a few months but now suddenly I can't connect to Internet . Strange thing is the "hikari Tv" tuner (fibre optic) set top box is working fine and all the channels come via the Internet connected with a cable to the same router box. This makes me suspect it is a problem with the MacBook.
I would appreciate any help although I guess it is an unusual circumstance.

Thanks for your responses people. I have since figured out how to get to the Linksys web admin site, and I also have the wireless connection to my MB up and running.
The remaining problem is that my flatmates lovely old Windows XP laptop (wired only) cannot now connect. I am pretty sure it is not an issue with the router, but her Windows machine is all in German, and my German is ok, but dealing with techie stuff is another matter.
    Any ideas?

  • Vodafone Sure Signal and SKY Fibre Optic Broadband

Please help, I have had no Mobile Phone signal for over 6 weeks on four mobile phones at home (which we pay over £150 a month for!) including my two teenage daughters phones who are beside themselves!!My Vodafone sure signal box was working fine (for past two years or more)but stopped working when we switched to SKY Fibre optic broadband from regular SKY broadband I have spoken to Vodafone and SKY for many many hours but still no signal. I'm tempted to ditch both SKY and Vodafone and start fresh with BT!!, this would be such a shame as been with both companies for over 15 years now I have no idea what I need to do to fix this, we have tried Port Forwarding but still no signal. Please help, I am in a mobile blackspot and its driving me cand the family mad.

Although not specifically about Sky Fibre, this (although a bit technical) is an interesting read (in particular the post at 21-Oct-14 10:41:23 advising to de-register the SS via the VF website, wait 30 mins then re-register the SS using a different postcode and if no luck contact VF and ask them to reset the SS from their end). For what it's worth, the Three Home Signal Box works fine over Sky Fibre without any port forwarding or any nonsense - just plug and go - worth knowing if you should decide to switch mobile providers!

What do you think you could see if you managed to snake an endoscope into the device? There are almost no moving parts and the ones that do move are mostly switches that are visible from the outside. The vibrator is kinda obvious when it fails.
The gyroscope technically moves, but that is encased inside a chip.

  • Massive drop in fibre-optic broadband speed

    Hello,
We had our fibre-optic set up on 31/8/12, everything went swimmingly and we recieved download speeds averaging around 70MBPS for about a week, however, over the last few days I've realised through a series of speed tests that our download speed has taken a massive dip and now hovers around 20MBPS.
One thing I do find strange is that despite the DL speed drop, our upload speed has remained more-or-less constant. Are there any simple explanations/fixes for this?
    Thanks for your time.

It looks as if DLM has decided to lower your profile, possibly because of some noise on the line.  Try http://speedtester.bt.com/ and choose the ‘ADSL and Fibre diagnostics’ option, and post the profile it gives as a result.  It is fairly common for upload speed not to suffer when there are issues.  It is not controlled by DLM in quite the same way as download.
One thing to check is your internal wiring.  I had an extension that had been wired off a junction box before the master socket, and it cause similar issues.  That was standard GPO practice when it was installed 15 years ago.  The FTTC installer should have rewired things, but he incorrectly said it wouln't matter. My download speed went right down to 12Mbps and for a time even 3.5Mbps.  Upload remained at 17Mbps all that time.  I disconnected the extension and everything came ok again after a few weeks ~ DLM is quick to lower your profile but slow to raise it again.
edit ... I've just been reminded reading a thread on Thinkbroadband that having a Sky box wired in can have a similar effect.

  • Do NI have a PXIe Fibre Optic Power Meter to measure loss (attenuation) and output power from a Fibre Optic cable

Hi, I want to be able to measure the loss in a Fibre Optic cable at a wavelength of 650nm, is there any PXIe cards that can perform this function
    Thanks

    Hi Paul_byrne,
There is no specific NI PXIe card which measures the power output of optical fibres. However the task can be accomplished using an Optical Sensor and a DAQ Board. Here is a white paper which provides an example of the hardware components and setup:

Rang Ericom they cannot sort it out and suggested I contact Apple for an update
Update is not possible without internet connection
    What do I do ???
    Thanks

You sure your mac ethernet port works.
Give them a call.  Verify that they only support windows for coniguration of router.  Ask them about future support. If  they have heard of the ipad.  Ask if they plan on supporting a web browser interface. Ask about their sanity. My $5 router supports a web browser interface.
You could get a cheap wifi router with ethernet ports and with a web browser interface.  Connect you mac to you el cheap router.  Connect your el cheapo router to the eircom router.  Note: Apple routers have a propriety interface too and unless you have a new Mac best to avoid.
Could they switch you to a router that supports a web browser interface?
Get a friend with a windows laptop and ask to come over to get things working.
Internet support is standardized.  You mac should be able to access the internet through the router.
What is not standardized is how you configure your router.
Unbelievably, eircom_799  referenced by Neville Hillyer only supports windows for configuration.

  • Gmail faults after change to fibre optic modem

    Hello there,
Hope someone can help me out with this. Since modem change from ADSL to Fibre Optic i get constant error for my gmail account that says "Too many simultaneous connections. (Failure)". I understand that this is because i probably have too many devices logged into the google account, but the weird thing is i did not have this problem before.
My modem is a Alcatel-Lucent I-240W-A connected to the 2TB Time Capsule. I tried various mail clients, as OSX Mail became unusable. I now use Postbox which did its best in the beginning but after a month it started to drop again and again. Besides reporting "too many simultanious connections" it sometimes says my password is not correct and it cant login. My phone will do the same once in a while ("Wrong password for Gmail, cannot login") and give me options to change settings or retry. Both being on the same Wifi network (TC 5Ghz).
I have access to the actual modem, for if someone has a way to perk settings.
    Many thanks.

The always helpful Mr. Pastenague, thank you.
    Ok, here goes.
Gmail on any browser works perfect. No drops, no "yellow alert bars", ..nothing. All client connections are IMAP, indeed, and no special settings other than general port settings (465), SSL is on, password is active and where it says User Name the macbook settings have the actual username where phone keeps it blank ("optional"). Funny thing is, the iOS mail client has almost no issues. Maybe once a day it cant login to gmail where the osx has trouble over 50 times a day.
The ISP modem configuration does not have any IPv6 setting available. Copying what i do see:
1: The spy friendly TR69 protocol:
    2. Internet is through PPPoE:
    Internal:
    The issue:
    3. The TC is in bridge mode - but i did find:
    Network options:
TCP/IP per client (this being the macbook) is link-local:
    4. On ISP pop account, will check if they have that available. Did not came with the actual intro though.
Many thanks for your efforts, standing by for if you need any additional info.

  • Crazy ping! Is it because Fibre Optic is being ins...

Hi once again i find myself on the forums complaining about my latency! I've been getting really bad ping for ages now going an around a month and its really stopping me from being able to use the internet if im honest.
My question is not how to stop it because im pretty sure the problem is with the BT network itself because the area i live in has not long anounced that Fibre Optic is being installed and should be ready for the spring. I'm assuming that while this is happening they have to route traffic through some other loction which can slow down the internet for everyone in the area. Can someone confirm this for me through this trace route to the bbc.co.uk website.

I think the quick answer is no.  The FTTC rollout will not change the routing on your ADSL connection.  BT's network is being particulary **bleep** in the core at the moment.  I assume it's everyone doing speedtests every 5 minutes to check they are getting the speeds they want.
Although the latency seems to come in before you hit the core network.  A point to note is that ICMP is a low prioirty protocol and will get dropped / ignored if the router / device is busy.
Might be worth checking over in the ADSL forums see if anyone else having similar problems.
Just for info I did a trace route from work, (some information has been removed).

  • Connecting printer to new fibre optic router

Hi. We have recently upgraded to fibre optic broadband and have a new router. Our HP 3055A printer will not now work. We have followed just about every procedure in the manual and on line, still getting nowhere. We cannot find a 'set up wizard' on the printer, getting nowhere fast!! Need clear and simple instructions, preferably from a user of the same printer who knows the menu headings. Thank you.

  • Mac OS X- 10.6.8 -fibre optics / TC problem

Not computer savvy enough for this one.  Just switch from an ethernet connection for internet to wireless (fibre optics).  Now internet does not function when time capsule is plugged & working wirelessly as in the past.
Solution to date has been to disconnect Time Capsule to have Internet work.   How do we get both to work simutaneously?
Have direct wired Time Capsule to computer but internet still does not function.
    Advanced thanks for any help.

I am not at all sure how your internet works.. fibre is normally delivered over ethernet.
Anyway I am going to need some more explaination of how the TC is connected.
And what mode you have it running in. Do you get internet direct to the computer by wifi from some other router then?? And the TC is not connected at all?
You should still plug the TC into the fibre router by ethernet if that is possible. If not you can setup dual connection.. internet via wifi and TC via ethernet direct to the computer but that means only that one computer has access to it.
See the information in this thread.. I gave a whole series of screenshots on how to do the setup.

  • WLC HA Failover on L2 Fibre Optic WAN

    Hi there,
I am just wondering if the below scenario works, if the L2 Fibre Optic Wan link is down between the two DCs. Please refer to attached diagram.
    ======================================================================
The Fibre link is L2 link, meaning that the VLANs are spanning between the 2 DCs.  HSRP is being used on all VLANs and DC1 being the primary active interface for all VLANs. In the event of the L2 Fibre Link failure, the VLAN interfaces on the respective core will become active, providing gateway access for all VLANs.
The WLC HA pair is between the DCs via the L2 Fibre link and  the redundant port communication happens via the Fibre link.  WLC in DC1 is the Active box and the WLC in DC2 would be in “Standby hot” mode.
When the L2 Fibre  fails, the HA Primary box in DC 1 will detect that its lost communication to the standby box(via both redundant port and network) and will still continue to function in active state. The HA Secondary box in DC2 will detect that the Primary failure(via both redundant port and network) and transition itself to Active state. In this scenario when the L2 link is down, both WLC would be in active – active state.
Upon the link coming back online, the wlc WOULD BE SYNCED and goes into active-standby state.
    ===========================================================================
Would the above scenario work, as I am unable to find any documentation describing about WLC HA setup which can run in “ACTIVE-ACTIVE” state.

The redundant ports are to be connected via the core switch(on same VLAN )at the respective DCs.
I doubt if this will work.
    Redundancy Port
This interface has a very important role in the new HA architecture. Bulk configuration during boot up and incremental configuration are synched from the Active WLC to the Standby WLC using the Redundant Port. WLCs in a HA setup will use this port to perform HA role negotiation. The Redundancy Port is also used in order to check peer reachability sending UDP keep-alive messages every 100 msec (default timer) from the Standby WLC to the Active WLC. Also, in the event of a box failure, the Active WLC will send notification to the Standby WLC via the Redundant Port. If the NTP server is not configured, a manual time synch is performed from the Active WLC to the Standby WLC on the Redundant Port. This port in case of standalone controller and redundancy VLAN in case of WISM-2 will be assigned an auto generated IP Address where last 2 octets are picked from the last 2 octets of Redundancy Management Interface (the first 2 octets are always 169.254).
What you are proposing to do defeats the true purpose of HA SSO.  So you depend entirely on a switch and if your fibre cuts, you are gone.  Both WLC goes into Active-Active.  What you are proposing to do is NOT what is intended for HA SSO.  You might as well turn HA SSO off.
Besides, with your setup, you don't need a Layer 1 issue.  All you need is something as simple as a STP loop and *BOOM*, WLC will go into Active-Active.
You might be able to get away with this if, you might say, you connect Redundant Ports (RPs) to fibre optic media converter.  As long as there is nothing in between both converters then this might even work (as long as either one of the media converters don't loose power).
Can you also specify what kind of WLC/WiSM are you planning to use?  This design of yours doesn't call of a WiSM-2, does it?
