MEDIA CENTER PC m7250n GETS "RESTRICTED CONTENT" MESSAGE ON SOME TV STATIONS

On some channels, not porn or adult stations, I get the message "Restricted Content  Restrictions set by the broadcaster and/or originator of the content prohibit playback of the program on this computer", when I just try to play regular TV through my PC.  The screen goes blue blank with just this message showing.  Sometimes the sound is let through on some stations, but no picture.  There appears to be no rhyme or reason as to what station or content: some are news channels, sometimes it kicks in during a commercial.  Some days it hits a channel, 2 days later that channel plays.  I spent 2 1/2 hrs. on the line with India the other day, and the result was worse than the original issue, so we just went to system restore.  I'm by far not a computer genius, but I'm not exactly an idiot either.  But I sure would appreciate someone's help.  Many thanks.

Hi pkak5,
My  first thought is that this sounds like a signal strength issue. I get weird errors like this on my Media Center that has the weakest antenna in my house. When I hook up a better antenna or even adjust the antenna, it can improve the TV signal and keep these errors from occuring.
Have you tried adjusting your TV antenna, or a different antenna?

  • Media Center PC m7250n hangs on Windows 7 final install phase.

When I try to install Windows 7 (32bit) on my m7250n, the process comes to the final “Completing Installation” phase and hangs.
The hang apparently occurs immediately after the boot-up into Win7 that commences this final phase. The progress bar just stops and holds still even after about 7 hours.
Before doing this install, I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser. The resulting report claimed the computer could handle Windows 7. The report did, however, point out that my C: drive had insufficient room left for Windows 7. No big deal for me. I planned on putting Windows 7 on a different 82GB hard drive.
So this just meant that I had to pick the Custom Install option in the install process.
However, the 82GB hard drive in question is connected to the computer through a PCI adapter card. Therefore, the installer requests that I give it a path to a driver for that PCI card. So I do this. It is a Vista driver. The installer accepts this and allows me to continue the install process.
Everything works fine until the hang at the final phase.
OK, here's the info on the computer:
HP Media Center m7250n; Asus P5LP-LE/HP Lithium-UL8E; Phoenix AwardBIOS v3.17
    Intel Pentium D 2.8Ghz MPU
    3GB RAM
First Channel Device 0 = None [SATA connection I can't use]
First Channel Device 1 = None [SATA connection I can't use]
Second Channel Device 0 = None [SATA connection I can't use]
Second Channel Device 1 = None [SATA connection I can't use]
    Third Channel Device 0 = IDE; Quantum Fireball lct15 30; 30GB; NTFS; Windows XP SP3; Drive C:/sda
    Third Channel Device 1 = IDE; WDC WD800BB-75DKA0; 80GB; Linux Ubuntu 14.04.1;sdb
PCI IDE Adapter Card = Promise Technology Ultra133 TX2; BIOS 2.20.0.15; installed at PCI2 slot
PCI IDE Adapter Card Device 0 = IDE; Maxtor 6 Y080P0; 82GB; NTFS; Drive I:/sdc (where I tried to put Windows 7)
PCI IDE Adapter Card Device 1 = None
PCI IDE Adapter Card Device 2 = IDE; Hewlett-Packard DVDRW 1035r; Drive D:/sr0
PCI IDE Adapter Card Device 3 = None
Since the optical drive is also attached through this PCI IDE adapter card, I cannot boot from optical drives. This means I am running the Windows 7 installation disc from within a Windows XP session, with the AutoRun option.
    The cards:
PCIEX16 = Video Card, ATI Radeon x300se, enabled & connected to 2 monitors
PCI1 = TV Tuner & Video Capture Card, Hauppauge WinTV PVR 26xxx, proposed future use
PCI2 = PCI IDE Adapter Card, Promise Technology Ultra133 TX2
PCI3 = 56K Modem, Lucent Win Modem, enabled & connected to phone line
On board NIC enabled and connected to LAN & internet
On board sound circuit enabled and connected to audio equipment
So anyway, does anyone have any clues what the problem is and how to fix it?

    Thanks for the suggestions, erico.
I made and installed from a USB thing as you suggested. While it was not the solution to my problem, it did help things go faster, I suspect.
The real solution was to install a hard drive to a native motherboard connector, and install Windows 7 to that hard drive. Apparently, Windows 7 cannot install to a hard drive connected through a PCI adapter card, in spite of accepting a link to a driver for that adapter card and being able to copy files to it and execute most of the install process to such a hard drive.
So yes, I did manage to install Windows 7 successfully.
But there was a bit of a glitch. The installer did not enter Windows 7 into the windows MBR on the hard drive containing Windows XP. This meant for for several of the final Windows 7 re-boots in the install process, I had to direct my computer to the correct disc to boot from, from the booting BIOS. And when installation was complete, I still had to use the boot BIOS to boot into Windows 7.
How to fix this I know not. It must take some special expertise about MBR's and stuff.
Fortunately for me, I didn't need to mess with it because I just so happen to have Ubuntu installed on the computer already, which uses the GRUB2 boot menu thing. All I needed to do was boot into Ubuntu and use the GRUB Customizer utility to add the WIndows 7 to the GRUB2 boot menu. All is well.

  • Media center problem with Qosmio G35-650 - error message

    hello all
I have a problem with media center on qosmio g35-650.
When starting live tv , an error message appears and writes "application failure please restart your computer again. if problem persists again please contact with your hardware assistance"
It was working yesterday and today something happened.
Also it cant find any tv signal available. Is it a hardware problem?
    regards
    cem mete

    Hello
Please dont be mad on me but in most cases is the user the problem and not the machine. I really dont know what is problem in your case but if the unit has well TV signal there should not be any problem.
Your unit must be an US model. Those notebooks are not known to me but I presume that Qosmio player is preinstalled too. I have G20 and TV works perfect (WMCE and Qosmio player). What is with Qosmio player in your case? Does it work well?
Be sure that TV tuner is listed properly in device manager and also TV antenna is connected properly.

  • Media Center s/w may be corrupted

I keep getting the error message: Media Center has stopped capturing data due to low data rate in the TV signal...
This cannot be so, as the TV signal is driving three televisions.  It the Media Center s/w is the problem, how can I reload it?  It came on the computer (HP Media Center PC m1160n).  I have the recovery disks.  Can they be used to write over or fix any errors in the Media Center s/w?
I need to get a signal in order to record (using Media Center), but keep getting the above error message.  Any ideas?

    Hi:
Did you try using the system restore utility to restore your PC to an earlier date when it was running correctly?
If not, you may want to try that option.
I have searched around the internet and it appears you need to reinstall the whole OS to get WMC to load as well. I thought there was a way to just load that part of the program, but I can't find it.
Also you did not list what version of WMC you have...XP 2005, Vista or W7?

  • TV@nywhere and Media Center

Does the original TV@nywhere (Not Master) work with MSI Media Center?  I get nothing but a blue screen on the TV while MSIPVS works fine.
If anyone has it working, what MC version?  What settings?

    Hi Bas,
    thanks for your answer.
DVB-dream is a software to view tv on your PC. I want to watch blueray, radio, tv, watch pictures,... -> HTPC.
For this MCE is a nice standard software. I thing the problem is not MCE but MSI! After the message "... no signal.." the MSI software have to be start under admin rights to work. For me this is a hint to a bug in the msi driver.

  • Using the Apple Remote with Windows Media Center

    Hello guys
First of all, I am Swiss, so excuse me for my bad English (grammar and stuff...)
So, my problem: I bought the Apple Remote and I think it is very awsome! But since Apple has removed Front Row in Lion, I don't really can use it anymore. So I'd tried to use it with Windows 7 Media Center. But it doesn't work correctly. Does anyone know, how to fix that?
    Thank you

I had a Green Button remote provided with HP PC XP, Vista for Windows Media Center prior to getting Mac Pro.
Now in Lion, I have Hauppauge WinTV HVR-980 USB adapter (less than $100) including a remote that works in Lion for the Hauppauge TV app.
In Windows, the same remote works with all "Media Center" processes Music, Pictures, TV... instead of mouse/keyboard. If your TV service requires set top box, then you have to use its remote to change channels.
If ISP's internet Co-Ax also carries TV signal, you can get Cable Splitter (smple picture):
    http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2-Way-TV-RF-Coaxial-Cable-Splitter-CATV-Signal-/320868649 227?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab543090b
and feed 1 co-ax to USB TV adapter, the other to your Modem/Router.
The Hauppage USB was a good choice because it serves Mac & Windows.
Also, In Windows, if you have an XBox, it can be used as "Extender" for your A/V output.

Although this may not answer your question, it describes other options.

  • Noob/PC Convert/MS Media Center

I just bought my first Mac last night to replace my PC that I've been having problems with. I also bought it with the understanding that it could pretty much do whatever my PC could do. I primarily used the PC for internet and watching/recording live tv shows. On my PC, I had my HD cable box connected to the PC, the Microsoft Media Center would communicate to the media extender, which is my XBOX 360, and I could watch live or recorded shows on my TV. Very easy.
Before I bought the iMac, I told the Apple rep my configuration and she said, although Apple doesnt have an equivalent to the MS Media Center, I could get the Pinnacle Mac HD Stick (eyeTV lite), download XMBC, and I'd be good to go. Unfortunately, that is not the case and I'm considering returning the Mac for a PC.
Has anyone set up their Mac to do what I'm looking to do and how did you do it. The Pinnacle support is no help and neither is the Apple rep.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated. I like the Mac but I NEED my TV.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
http://www.elgato.com/ has a much friendlier Mac support staff for this kind of configuration and a better guide as to what devices work.

  • Media Center Deluxe III no fullscreen

The software refuses to go fullscreen when in the screens: Video Clips or Recorded TV (which are basicaly the same)
The little fullscreen button is disabled (for both mouse or remote)
The home and back button (top left) are also disabled and I'm locked in this screen. I can only exit by pressing power button on remote or taskmanager.

The software disccussed here is NOT the Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition, but MSI-bundled application which according to some folks is based on certain Intervideo product. This app does NOT contain OS "kernel".
I think that is a "By the way" question, so Asmund is asking whether Win MC2K5 can be installed over a standard WinXP O.S. or not; That question is unrelated with Intervideo's MC3.
I wonder if that is possible, too.
    Anybody knows?

  • Windows Media Center - wont launch...due to Software Restriction Policy???

    Current system:
Windows Vista x64 Ultimate RETAIL installed onto clean system.
    UAC disabled
Using full administrator account w/ no restrictions
    Problem:
Anytime I attempt to launch Windows Media Center or Media Center Extender I receive the following popup error and the program does not attempt to to even start:
    Error:
    [Windows Media Center
"Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy.  For more information contact your system administrator."
    Summary:
When I initialy installed the OS, this problem did not exist.  I was able to launch WMC just fine.  Only after a couple month of reinstalling necessary base applications do I now get this error.  My family cannot even use it as an extender for the XBOX360 anymore.
From what i can tell there are a lot of people with this issue and NO SOLUTION from MS as yet.  I did see in one post that someone else had this error and was able to correct it by setting WMC as the default application in "Default Programs --> Set Program Access and Computer Defaults"  This did not work for me at all.  At this point I am at a complete loss.  Any insight would be appreciated.

For Windows 8 here was the solution that FIXED it for us:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/set-program-access-computer-defaults
To start, open the Set Program access and computer defaults page:
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then clickSearch.)
Enter control panel in the search box, and then tap or click Control
    Panel.
    Under View by:, select Large
Icons, and then tap or click Default Programs.
Tap or click Set program access and computer defaults.
    Set program access
If you want to make a program inaccessible without uninstalling it, you can set it so it doesn't appear where programs are typically listed.
On the Set Program access and computer defaults page, under Choose
a configuration, tap or click Custom.
Clear the Enable access to this program check box next to the programs you want to make inaccessible,
and then tap or click OK.

  • Envy 23 Protected Content Error in Window Media Center

I have a brand new HP Envy 23 with Windows 8 and Intel HD Graphics.  I run Windows Media Center and have an HD Homerun Cable Card TV Tuner attached on my network so Media Center can redord HD Cable programs.
Recorded programs play back fine to my XBOX360 Media Center Extender, however, if I try to watch a recorded show on the HP Envy (which is the machine doing the actual recording) I get an error message that the Display Device Does Not Support the Playback of Protected Content.
I was hoping a display driver update might fix this, but I don't see any available.  Since HP offers this machine with a TV tuner, and with Blu-Ray, I would think the Intel HD Grapics Hardware and the display would support HD playback.
Has anyone else encountered this, and found a solution?
    Thanks!

    Hi jfmcgowan,

The closest thing that I could find to a solution was the link below. It is regarding Contect Protection Messages Interrupt View of High Definition Movies. Try that out and let me know.

Based on what you've posted, your computer does not have the right tuner.   You need a QAM tuner to record locals from FiOS, or a CableCard tuner to record all local and cable channels from FiOS.
QAM tuners to record local channels only
This requires Windows Vista or Windows 7
    Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
SiliconDust HDHomeRun (info on a sale)
CableCard tuner to record local and cable channels
This requires Windows 7 + one CableCard from Verizon for $3.99/mo
ATI TV Wonder Digital PC CableCard Tuner (records one channel at a time) -- $200-$250 on ebay
Ceton MOCUR tuner (records four channels at a time) -- coming in early 2010 for $400-$600
Make sure your computer has Windows 7 Home Premium (or better) installed.   That's necessary to support CableCard tuners.

As you know, your iPhone 5 is not compatible with our iBook G4. To get your music in iTunes from your iBook to your iPhone you would need to migrate the music files to a newer intel based Mac. A Mac which has Mac OS X 10.6 or higher installed. Then sync your iPhone 5.
