Media control button isn't ON - Satellite P305D-S8828

I reformat my laptop and didn't save the drivers (boohoo!).
I can't use the touchpad and tried installing both Alps and Synaptic but neither works.
Another problem is that the Media Control Buttons (located beside the Power Button) are not lit.
I use the Media Buttons yesterday but when I turn the laptop on today, it wasn't lit.
Please help! I don' know what to do anymore...

Hi
You could try to setup the multimedia button using the TOSHIBA Button Support.
The application in +Program Files\Toshiba\TBS\Backlight.exe+ controls the illumination

  • Re: Satellite A305-S6872 media control buttons driver?

Ok, so I just got this laptop on Sunday.
It has the media control buttons on it, but they won't work.
I've read a few posts about it, saying that I need to download the Control driver..
Well, I spent hours last night looking for it. :\
Anyone have the direct link to it?

    Hallo Kitsune
Try to reinstall Value added Package. You can download it from Toshiba support page. If you have US notebook model please visit http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp
    Hallo Glead
In users manuals is described that this button is not for 2 functions but just for one. Either for MUTE or for enabling/disabling the LEDs. I have Satellite A300 too and this button is for disabling LEDs only.
Have a look into this symbol and you will see it is not speaker but symbol for light.
Compare it with symbol on ESC button and you will see it is not the same.

  • Changing media control button sounds

Good morning!  I just picked up a P505-S8980, and it is fantastic.  The sound made when a media control button is pressed, however, is awful, and I would like to change it.  I can't find it listed under the general sound controls - anyone know how I can do this?
    Much thanks!

The sound for the media pad can be turned off in the system bios

  • Media Control Button Problem

I can't turn on my wifi because the Media Control button for that function now starts my Windows Media Player instead.  This was not  problem until today.  The only change made yesterday was to download and install TouchPad drivers.  Any suggestions?

  • Dell Vostro and iTunes [+media control buttons]

    Hi everybody!
Well, I have a Dell Vostro 1310 laptop.
It has media control buttons, as you can see in these images:
    http://img134.imageshack.us/my.php?image=moto0388ha4.jpg
    http://img98.imageshack.us/my.php?image=moto0389iu3.jpg
    http://img91.imageshack.us/my.php?image=moto0390ep2.jpg
The fact is: the control buttons work properly IF, and only IF, iTunes is the active window.
If it is not, they simply don't work.
Is there anything I can do to solve it?

    Hi espectral,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I'm fairly sure you'd need dedicated software to interface with the keyboard and iTunes, most often 'media' keys only work by coicidence. Therefore, you'd need software from Dell (or other 3rd party software to link iTunes to the keyboard.)
I don't think Dell specifically support Apple Software, but I know some other brands like Logitech do.
    Hope that helps.
    Regards,
    Peter.

  • Microsoft Security Essentials Slow to Boot Satellite P305D-S8828 Vista

Hi, Hope someone knows how to get WSE to boot before the security center says my computer is unprotected?
I've uninstalled Norton using their uninstall tool. And it still boots really slow and locks up the computer
until it's finished doing it's boot up thing.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Paul, that's consistent with AV programs conflicting. I suggest you start from scratch. Uninstall MSE and then use Norton's removal program again to root out any leftovers.
It's easy to have others present. The Adobe Flash Player installation package, for example, automatically installs McAfee's Security Scanner unless you notice a tiny box to uncheck.

  • Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q870 power button unresponsive but laptop powers up using media control button

Well this is perplexing, I could really use some help.
My power button on my Qosmio X505-Q870 is completely unresponsive. I've tried holding it for 30 seconds, but to no avail. I removed the battery & replaced the battery, testing the power button by pressing it for 30 seconds or rapidly pressing it - makes no difference whatsoever.  But then, I noticed if I touch the media touch button, the computer powers up! (And opens up Windows Media Player) Very stealthy...
Now when the laptop is already powered up, pressing the media button does not turn it off. It only opens Windows Media Player.
Here is some background info that may or may not be helpful:
    1 1/2 years ago:
RAM was upgraded to 8 MB
I replaced the HDD with a SSD, and then installed the HDD into the 2nd bay.
Computer has been running fine since these changes, aside from running hot when gaming.
    2 days ago:
I upgraded the SSD to a larger drive.
Then, I disassembled the laptop with the intent to apply some thermal compound and clean the fans to address the temperature issues.  I could not complete this task because 2 screws were stripped and I couldn't get the cover off, afterall.
I did not swap any connections, but did notice one seemed a bit loose after carefully lifting up the keyboard so I gently eased it back in to place.
I put the laptop back together, and that is when the power button and media center button issue began. So it must be a result of either opening the case or upgrading the SSD.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this to happen?
And if anyone has a trick to remove stripped screws without taking a drill to my laptop - I'd love to hear your ideas. Thanks!!

Thanks for your reply! Actually, yesterday I upgraded to the new kernel (version 3.4.3-1) and my laptop has not freezed since then. So, maybe I will wait for a couple of days and hopefully mark this as solved.

  • Satellite P305D-S8828 Keyboard missing my typing and FN+F9 doesn't work

    Hello Everyone.
I am just new to this forum. Im so sorry for my bad english from now. I hope i can explain my problems.
I just bought a laptop from United States with a bargain price. It is an awesome laptop but there are 2 problems and they r big problems for me.
It is Toshiba Satalite P305D-S8828 which is not available in europe, only is sell for USA.
    Thats the link :
    http://explore.toshiba.com/laptops/satellite/P300/P305D-S8828
Laptops keyboard looks nice, soft and good at typing, but especially on a msn messenger box or forum reply page, when i am typing, it miss some of my typings??? I mean i normally use my keyboard fast, but it is like it doesnt press all the buttons but i really press the letters. So the things i write are mixed, not understandable cos of missing letters.
This is not my first laptop. I used a few more before but nothing like this happened before.
It doesnt happen always but generally happens.
I dont know what to do and this really do my head in.
I am using Vista Ultimate Turkish. Do you think this is an OS problem? Or maybe the bios? Its the latest one (v1.90) I heard the same problem happened to some Fujitsu Siemens laptops but with a bios upgrade it was solved. I hope you understand my problem and someone help me.
My second problem is my FN+F9(function key) doesnt work. But some of them working, like FN+F1, FN+F2, FN+F3... work but FN+F9 DOESNT? :(
I want to turn the touchpad off when i plug my usb mouse but i cant do it by using FN+F9. My touchpad driver is installed and my OS is Vista Ultimate. Could you help me for this too?
I hope you answer my questions.
    Thanks from now
    all loves from Turkey

Go to the Toshiba US site and download the latest BIOS. Having the latest BIOS is important on new models.
For the Touchpad issue, download and install the latest Value Added Package for the P305D, and reinstall the Touchpad driver.
If you installed drivers for your USB Mouse (for example Logitech or Microsoft drivers), remove them. They may be conflicting with the Touchpad

  • Satellite P305D S8828 Won't Boot.

I have this issue with my laptop and I've seen plenty of others with the same exact issue except I've found no solution so I'm finally going to ask. I have a Satellite P305D that will no longer boot at all. Hitting the power button enables all lights and they stay on until I hit the power button again, that's it. The machine instantly goes off when regularly you know you'd have to hold the power button for a few seconds until that happens. There is no welcome screen as the screen backlight does not come on (I don't think it even powers up), the CPU fan momentarily spins then stops, such is the same with the hard drive and optical drive.
Before I go any further, I'll first help you guys to help me (thus helping anyone else with this issue) by stating the things that I have done and have checked:
    1. The battery works and is in pristine condition, it still holds charges.
    2. The power adapter works and can charge the battery, I've checked the adapter connections for the motherboard and didn't see anything amiss.
    3. I've tried the [in]famous static discharge trick countless times(hold power for 20 seconds etc.)
    4. Tried new ram sticks. Then alternated, then tried just 1 stick.
    5. Dismantled the entire thing upwards of 15 times and put it back together.
    6. Reflowed the motherboard!!
    7. Checked the processor, it still works.
    8. Removed old thermal paste on processor and GPU and applied Arctic Silver.
    9. It could probably go without saying but I'll say it anyway, yes the hard drive works.
Now here's where things get interesting, prior to replacing the old thermal paste I put the machine back together after dismantling it and somehow it miraculously came on after pressing down in an area somewhere near the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard.
I was ecstatic except the amount of heat the thing kicked out of the side was insane and I was afraid of damage. So I turned it off and dismantled it once again, applied new thermal paste and put it back together now I'm back to square one. I've tried to replicate whatever in the world it was I did to get it to come back on prior but it didn't work as I wasn't completely sure what I did.
I'd really like to fix it especially over buying a new motherboard because then I'll just be better off buying a new laptop. So I'm coming to you guys hoping that someone out there has the real solution to this surprisingly common problem that I've found no fix for. I greatly appreciate any help you can give me and I'm sure others who stumble upon this will as well.

I have a P305 that is doing the same thing. I have done everything you have done except reseat the CPU (out of thermal paste).
Would love to know what part died. When mine quit, the LCD was working and the PC just quit responding. I got the "spinner" (not responding) on every application. I eventually did a hard reboot and that was the end of it. What surprised me was that the LCD no longer works at all. It WAS working when I did the hard reboot. I took it apart and removed the cmos battery and let it sit for an hour. I swear it acted a little different when I reinstalled the cmos battery -- but still no LCD. The cmos battery is good at 3.2 volts.
I additionally tried hooking up the laptop to an external VGA monitor. Still nothing.

  • Where can I find WinXP Drivers for my Satellite P305D-S8828?

    Hello every1 from Turkey.
I want to downgrade my Vista to WinXP Pro because of some reasons.
But on Toshiba driver page, I cannot find my laptop and of course Win XP drivers I bought my laptop from USA with a bargain price. Its P305D-S8828
    http://explore.toshiba.com/laptops/satellite/P300/P305D-S8828
My question is simple. How can I find XP drivers for my Laptop? Toshiba USA only has a few drivers that I dont really need.
    I need your help.
    Thanks from now
    EMRAH

    Hi
As you said this is a Toshiba US notebook and if you need some drivers, you should take a look on the Toshiba US driver page.
Unfortunately, it seems that the US page does not provide the XP drivers at this time.
But dont give up buddy from my own experience many different notebooks are equipped with the same devices. So usually the drivers from other series could be compatible too.
Therefore you could try to collect some XP drivers which were released for other series like P300/P305.
    Check it out!

  • Satellite P300-19P: Media Control buttons need to be pressed many times

Hi all, I'm a newbie to this forum, but I do love my Toshiba products!
I recently got a P300 19P and the touch sensitive media buttons at the top (mute, open media player, play/pause, stop, previous, next) buttons DO work, but only when i tap them something like 20 to 30 times repeatedly. Sometimes they work in just 5 or 6 taps, sometimes, it takes more like 50. What is going on here?
I would have thought it was something to do with windows media player having a lot of songs (only about a thousand to be honest), but that wouldn't explain the mute buttong being irresponsive.
(Windows Vista 32 bit home premium)
The LEDs all work fine though.... :-(

I will do that just now. Although at first, the first button on the far left was for muting the sound.
When the buttons were fully functional when I first bought it, it was a mute button. It has suddenly changed its function now. Is there any way of configuring the function of those buttons?
And I do touch them gently.
I just went into C:\Toshiba\Drivers\ValueAddedPackage and opened a file called ButtonSetting. I found this. (Note, I have not edited the text at all, and will not do so either unless advised otherwise).

Can anyone help me with this problem?....
Please, i've tried googling it...., my lappy is Toshiba Satellite U405D S2850.
    THX in advance

    >I have this multimedia button error; it does not do anything after i press it. But the light did go off and on.
If you get an error then a software issue might be possible.
In such case its mostly advisable to reinstall the responsible software part.
It seems that this U405 is a US notebook model and therefore I recommend visiting the US page to get the right tool/driver.
Reinstall it and check if the buttons would work again!

Hi! I have a little problem with the buttons next to the power button (the buttons with "play, pause,.."), they don't work.
Does anyone know how to solve it?
    Thanks!

    Hello
As far as I know you need divers for this buttons. You should try to install the
TOSHIBA Common Modules V6.02 and TOSHIBA Controls V3.03.0601
You can find it on the Tools & Utilities CD or on the Toshiba website.
