Media Sniffer: updating file pathnames in CMS

I created some playlists in Creative MediaSource Organizer (versions 3 and 5). At the time, the mp3s were all in a temp folder called "temp" (on my C drive). Now they are scattered about in other folders (on my external F drive).
So when I now try to drag the playlists into my new 60 GB Xtra (that I just upgraded to), it can't locate the files that have moved and won't add those entries into the playlist I'm transfering into the player. Strangely, some entries on the CMS playlists seem to have been updated themselves (without my doing it) because they now have their proper new locations. Other entries have old, wrong locations, so I guess CMS did some updating on its own.
Anyway, I'd like CMS to seek out and find the new locations of those mp3s (the folders where I moved them to) and update the playlists accordingly. Any way to accomplish this?
UPDATE: I was just looking in tools in CMS and found "Media Sniffer". It says it monitors the changes (movements, deletions, additions) of media files in my computer and automatically updates the PC Music Library database to resolve or prevent broken links. This seems like it could do the trick, but I'm not clear of exactly what to do. Basically, I want all the wrong, broken links in the playlists to be updated to their present location (i.e. this would be MOVEMENTS). But when I check off the Media Sniffer box, it asks:
Upon detection of new files:
*Always ask whether to add files into the library
*Add files into library without asking
*Ask when file does not contain artist, album or genre info
I don't necessarily want it to add ANY files it discovers into the library (I'm a songwriter and have all sorts of work-in-progress mp3s that I don't want to be added to my Music Library). I just want MOVEMENTS of existing entries in the library to be noticed and fixed.
Secondly, it then asks for folders to monitor. Do I add every old wrong folder, or every new correct folder (or both)? There are a lot of folders in question -- and it says "Your computer performance may be affected if too many folders are being monitored" so I only want to add the ones I must.

When I updated to Final Cut 10.1 it created a folder on my external hard drive (where I keep my media) called 'Final Cut External Media' and inside that folder is another called "Macintosh HD's projects and Events"  where 10.1 put all of my media files from all of my Final Cut projects.
I've been saving my new media into the 'Macintosh HD proejcts and events folder' with my other media files, but as I said, the files don't update in the projects, even if I update them with the same name in the folder.
I think that each project keeps it's own version of external media files, but I'm not sure, as everything has been packed into these library folders which I can't view.
I will do some experimentation with other file locations to see if I have any luck. Or if you have any ideas, let me know.
thanks again,
Eric

  • ITunes says updating files on my iPod, but podcasts do not show up.

I have an iPod Classic 80g. It is set to manually manage files and disk use is enabled. Recently I had to reformat my PC and reinstall the OS and other programs. Prior to this I was able to click and drag the video podcast I subscribe to directly to my iPod. Now, after the reformat, when I drag the new podcasts to my iPod, iTunes says its updating files my files, but when its finished there are no files added to my iPod. When I try to add it again, it no longer says it's updating, but still nothing happens. I have checked in all available folders incase it was adding to the wrong place, but it is nowhere to be found except fot being temporarily in the recently added folded. All other media types like movies and music import without a problem to my iPod.
    Please help.

I found this answer on http://forums.ilounge.com/archive/index.php/t-197870.html
I tried it and it worked. I am not tech savy, but I am in the process of downloading all of the other shows this way. Once I entered in the url in the "sync podcasts", it then allowed me to place all of the newly downloaded podcasts under podcasts. I played around for a while, so not sure I can walk you through it, but it will work.
Once I had synced the podcast, I went into podcast, dbl clicked on the original subscribed podcast show, that brought up the other shows and I downloaded them, one by one. Am trying a mass download, but cannot seem to do that.
    Hope this helps.

Yeah, you have to subscribe to a podcast and select "Sync podcasts" for it to show up under "Podcasts" on the iPod. Even podcasts downloaded through iTunes won't show up here if you don't subscribe/sync but just put them in a playlist.

  • Export causes "Media Encoder update is available", though already updated

Summary: Export from within Premiere Pro CS5 ver 5.0.2 produces the dialog "Media Encoder update is available", even though the updater has already been run without error and reports "no updates available". Media Encoder version is 5.0.1. The export itself runs OK after dismissing the dialog.
Details: I updated Premiere Pro CS5 Production Premium from 5.0.1 to 5.0.2, using Adobe Updater. Running updater again (from either Premiere Pro or Media Encoder) produces a dialog:
Adobe Applications Manager: "Your applications are all up-to-date."
However each time I try to export a video (AVCHD 1080i/30 from Canon HF100), Premiere Pro gives this dialog:
    Dialog: Adobe Premiere Pro
"An Adobe Media Encoder update is available for this version of Pemiere Pro. To download the latest update, please run the Adobe Updater from the Help menu or visit http://www.adobe.com/go/updates"

Thank you for your patience and feedback as well as installation info.
We are still looking into this issue, but we do have a solution for you.
To solve this issue, you can put a shortcut of AME application in PPro folder and then PPro can find AME and launch it without errors reported in this thread.  Follow these steps:
    1.       Using Explorer, go to the folder
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CS5\
    2.       In that folder, you should find the AME application called
“Adobe Media Encoder” or “Adobe Media Encoder.exe”
    3.       Right click on that file and select “Create Shortcut”.
A shortcut of that file will be placed in the same folder.
The shortcut file will be called “Shortcut to Adobe Media Encoder.exe”
    4.       Copy the shortcut to your PPro folder.
Most users who have this issue have installed PPro to a different folder rather than the default installation location.  Example: copy the above shortcut you created to E:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\
    5.       Rename the shortcut from “Shortcut to Adobe Media Encoder.exe” to “Adobe Media Encoder”.  If you have elected to show the file extension, it may have .lnk at the end of the file which should remain.
    6.       If PPro is open, close it and re-launch it.  You should now be able to launch AME from within PPro without an update reminder or other errors.
    That should do it.
Please do let us know if this solution does or does not work for you.

  • How can I get rid of this message that keeps popping up: Widevine Media Optimizer Update Available? Don't know what it is but don't want it.

How can I get rid of this message that keeps popping up:
Widevine Media Optimizer Update Available? Don’t know what it is but don’t want it.

Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
You may have to log out or reboot in order to complete an uninstallation.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

  • Media Encoder Update Not Helping

I just installed the latest media encoder update to see if it would resolve the Quicktime Animation codec problem, but it did not. When encoding a still image sequence to this format with all quality options set to high, it drops half of the frames, and the result is pretty crappy. I have verifed with another program that the codec is working properly, so it is obviously a fault of adobe media encoder or Premiere Pro CS4.

Im having the same problem. Any hints on whats the next best codec to use? I need to render out a full res lossless file so i can encode it in squeeze. pro res looks ok but it falls apart in the encoder.

  • Microsoft Media Player Update Desynchronized most songs on Zen Sleek, gutted playli

A recent Microsoft Media Player update really messed up my Zen Sleek. It has coexisted politely for some time, but with this upgrade, I first noticed that my playlists had been mostly emptied, then that I could not add songs back to them because even though they were on my computer, they were no longer available for selection in Manage Playlists. I solved the problem of the Zen Sleek not being able to see songs in my computer by using?the Microsoft Media Player to ?resynchronize my song collection to the Zen, but this did not restore the playlists, which represent untold hours of work to assemble and arrange. All that appears in the playlists?currently are the songs (the minority, to be sure) that were not taken out of sync by the Microsoft Media Player update. How do I restore my playlists to their former condition, now that I can access all my music again??

    thekid wrote:
can you create playlists on the fly?
You can certainly add files to the queue, and then save the queue as a playlist.
how is the zen media software?
The Sleek has a couple of bits of software (MediaSource and the Sleek Explorer), and you can use other 3rd party software also such as Real Player and Notmad Explorer (aside from WMP0).
There's nothing identical to the Karma's software, although I guess MediaSource is the closest.

  • I was transferring music from my (windows) laptop to my iPod 4. Some transferred, then all of the music(except for what I had bought from iTunes)was gone. Then, it started saying "updating files at the top of the computer, but nothing happened. HELP!

Ok, so I transferred some songs using my USB cable. Then, I checked my iPod, and it had spaces where there would be songs (ones that I had transferred from my laptop when I first got my iPod, so not bought from iTunes) but they were blank, so I completely turned off my iPod and turned it back on, that's when all of those songs disappeared, but they were still on my computer. Only the ones I had purchased iTunes on my iPod remained. I got some other songs to transfer after that, then it started saying "preparing to update files on iPod" "finishing updates" then it doesn't say anything and the songs still aren't on my iPod. Please explain and tell me if there is a way to fix it!

  • Itunes updated files and now I'm locked out - help

So I just plugged my Ipod classic into the PC to charge it and Itunes opens up and says 'updating files'.
The old files (over 20gb of music and movies) are still on it, but it looks in the usage bar to have compartmentalized them off.
It then copied the whole lot over again... so now all the same files are on it twice.
And when I turn it on it has no files. No music, movies or the games i've downloaded. Nothing.
2 days ago I logged into my apple account on Itunes and downloaded a game for the Ipod. It didn't try to update it then, and didn't earlier today when I plugged it in. But this time it did what I mentioned above.
So now I can't access any of my music or movies on it. Help.
Will I have to restore it and start again?
EDIT: I've just plugged it in again, and it has added the 2nd lot to the compartmentalized files and tried to copy it all over again. So I forced it to stop syncing and ejected it.
    Message was edited by: fooffstarr

    Nevermind.
I called the number on my warranty we ended up having to restore it and start over.
Still don't know what caused the issue in the first place, so ill leave this marked as unanswered for now.
If anyone knows why it would do it please let me know

  • ITunes 10.5 won't update files properly on my iPod Touch 4G running iOS 5, how can I fix this?

I recently updated iTunes to 10.5 and my iPod Touch 4G to iOS 5, but now when I try to edit the ID3 tags or artwork of songs on my
iPod using iTunes, iTunes just says "Preparing to update files" but it never actually updates them. When I try to add songs
manually to iPod (my iPod is not set up to sync music with iTunes [see note below]), the same thing happens, with the newly added
songs appearing on the iPod library but are grayed out with a still loading icon next to them. Also, in some instances when I try
to change the artwork of all the songs on an album, it grays out the songs I tried to change, puts an exclamation mark by them,
and applies those changes to other songs on my iPod! And if I delete the songs I attempted to change it deletes the songs that
were received the artwork change. The songs that were unintentionally changed somehow got overwritten by the songs I was trying to
change while retaining the original tags of the songs that were changed. Not sure if I'm explaining this clearly so let me give an
example: song A is a song on an album on my iPod, song B is on song on a completely different album on the iPod. When I change the
artwork on song A, it somehow messes up my library and song A overwrites song B, but it keeps all of song B's ID3 tags. So I don't
know song B is song A until I play song B, at which point the ID3 tags are changed to the tags of the song A, and song B is just
disappears. This only started happening after updating to iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5. Not sure if the problem is caused by iTunes 10.5
or iOS 5, but I did search online and found someone with the exact same problem effecting their iTunes 9.1 (no iPod involved).
Can someone please tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it?
    Note:
I add songs manually to iPod because I don't keep my music on my PC and sync my music with iTunes because it would take up too
much space and I want to be able to add songs on my iPod from other computers. Once you set it up to sync music I believe it
disables making any changes to your iPod with iTunes on other computers.

okay, I don't know about the rest, but about the songs never actually loading onto your iPod, I found in another discussion how to fix that. I'm using Windows 7, so I don't know if the steps are the same, but the end result is the same. So go into your Start menu, then into accessories, right click 'Command Prompt' and click 'Run as administrator'. Then type in the following: netsh winsock reset then press Enter. After a few seconds it should tell you to to restart your computer for changes to take effect. Restart your computer, then restart iTunes, then everything should be working fine. It still takes forever sometimes to update the iPod, but eventually it will work. I've had to do this multiple times, so I'd suggest copying & pasting this solution into a notepad or Word document and saving it on your computer, so you don't have to go through the discussions again to find it. This tends to happen to me nearly every day unfortunately Hope this fixes that problem, but I'm not having any of the other problems fortunately, except for removing the artwork of the songs it updates without me asking it too. PS I think my problem may be with iOS 5, because iTunes 10.5 came out before iOS 5, and I think everything was fine before I updated my iPod, but I really don't know where the problem lies

  • On the fly modification of an updated file

    Good Day,
I have a SharePoint library which keeps word documents (docx) in document sets. These word documents can be co-authored which means that more than one user can use Word application and work with the file at the same time. Each time user saves the file (i.e.
using Ctrl-S shortcut) the document is updated on the SharePoint.
    1)
Is there any way of "on the fly" modification of updated file on server side and save such an altered version of the document?
(FYI - the file modification I'm talking about should remove all edition rights inside docx file)
I have tried with ItemUpdating but I cant figure out how to access new version of the file (the content which actually is going to be put on the server) alter and make sure it going to be stored on the server. I can easily access current version of the file
(which of doesn't have any modifications) - but it is not the case here - I need access to version which is going to be put on the server and alter it.
Is it possible to do something like that?
    2)
I also went for other possibilities (although much less convenient) and experimented with ItemUpdated event. This time I was able to access the file and the content was updated but any alterations of the content failed with the exception saying:
    {"The file "XXX" is locked for shared use by YYY."}
Why am I getting this exception? Of course the file is locked because is it still open by user in the Word app (who actually manually triggered document save operation) and this is a normal use case here. I can get more users to open that document and let
them edit it simultaneously and that is fine. Then, why I cannot modify the file in event receiver because of this exception?
I hope you'll come up with some ideas.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
We can use SystemUpdate() instead of Update()
to update the file in Event Receiver.

  • Windows XP won't install drivers - "UPDATE" file missing

I have installed Windows XP SP2 successfully ( it was a bumpy road ) and have reached the step where I'm supposed to use a Leopard disc to install the necessary drivers for using Windows with the MacBook hardware (video, speakers, etc). When I insert the Leopard disc a window appears saying that the setup.exe file on the disc is newer than something or other, so I click OKAY ( the Boot Camp instructions say to agree to any windows at this point ). The window goes away, and another one immediately opens saying " the necessary UPDATE file is missing". I click OKAY and the window closes. The End. No driver installation. I can use XP, but there is no sound. Windows Movie Maker won't even launch because it says the audio components are not available. This is probably because the drivers weren't installed. I imagine there will be many other problems.... Anyone have this solution???

Here is a correction to my post. The window says: "This package requires a newer version of Windows Installer. Do you want to update the version of the Windows Installer on your system?" ( I click yes and the window goes away). The second window says: "The required resource 'Update' is missing". ( I click yes and the window goes away ).
I think maybe XP is trying to download something from the internet and maybe it can't since I probably need the drivers to do that....?
