Memory Cover Screw Stuck

I'm trying to pugrade my RAM to 6 GB from 4GB on a mid 2007 24" iMac 7,1.  However, I can't get the memory slot cover off because the service tech who last opened it tightened it up with an electric screwdriver and stripped the screwdriver cross.  I've been trying to use a "grabit damaged-screw remover" but have not had any success.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks. So far it won't even budge.  I'll try again tomorrow.  Taking it back will likely be  most successful, but I won't get a change to do so for about 3 weeks due to my schedule and their hours of operation.
Then I'd make sure you call them and let them know, of course have your receipt info handy from when they had it last. Make sure you speak to a manager or someone responsible and let them know when you plan in bringing it in.

Warranty should cover screen defects but not accidental damage. Only way to know is to visit an Apple store and ask.

  • T430s, unable to open bottom cover screw

    Hi,
I wanted to check if I can add a mSATA drive to my t430s
but I am unable to open one of the bottom cover screws
It is so hard closed, it simply does not move (spin).
When I trial to open it I scratched a bit over the surface of the screw.
And for sure not because I am stupid, so far I opened all of my Thinkpads without any problem.
so I think there is something strange with this screw.
This means that my T430s is not expendable and repairable.
What now? What shall I do

finally I was able to open the screw,
this was really a quality issue, dam soft screw and to hard in.
    not happy about this.
and I need a replacement for this screw
and unfortunately I found a Ericsson modem in the mSATA slot.
so it seems there is no mSATA available :-(

  • While updating to 8.1, not enough memory: phone is stuck in update, PC/iTunes doesn't recognize phone.  Help!

I tried downloading 8.1 wirelessly(!).  No warning about not enough memory.  Software downloaded by would not load in phone (4S) - cell antenna went into permanent "search" mode(?).  Took phone to PC to download videos to make room for IOS 8.1.  iTunes does not recognize the phone.  Was able to delete most videos using PC "my computer" and browsing to those files.  Phone then allowed me to load 8.1, but now it is stuck on a black screen with the iTunes logo telling me to connect to iTunes:  only iTunes still won't recognize the phone!  Phone is frozen on this screen.  Global reset (power + home button) only turns phone off briefly, then returns to this eternal screen of death.
    Help?

I have the exact same problem with my iPhone 4S.  HELP!!!
Also I tried Reiboot... and nothing...

  • Memory cover won't unscrew

I just bought some new memory and a #00 phillips screwdriver (the size recommended by Apple to use in unscrewing the memory latch on the bottom of the laptop), but none of the screws will budge. I've used the tried and true "righty tighty lefty loosey" formula, but the screws won't budge when I turn them to the left. I tried turning them to the right, and still nothing. Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a way to fix it without going to an Apple store? I'm assuming that I'm going to have to take it in to a store, so I don't strip the screws, but it seems like it should be so simple to get these scrws out so I thought I'd give this a try first! Thank you!

Sometimes the space between the internal threads and the screw threads capture moisture and oxidation occurs. If this is the case attempting to remove the screws will possibly strip the head. If this happens, you will have to replace the screws. Personally I would bring the laptop to Apple and let them insert the memory card. They have more experience and if the screws are ruined they will be replace them.

  • Problem with removing Magic Mouse battery cover (Its Stuck)

Well i just got a new Magic mouse for 1st time, cause i needed a mouse that doesn't have a usb lead which gets caught on edges or wrapped around other cables all the time for my Macbook Pro.
The problem with this mouse is tho, rest of it is great, but the battery cover latch, won't release the actual cover off, as i was checking what kind of batteries it had. Which from what i've seen on the forums here is completely opposite to the problem that everyone else has here of it NOT staying on, or being to loose.
Mine however is seemingly too TIGHT, or stuck on itself, and therefore won't come free.
Being that its a brand new mouse (Got it only just today in post 15 Jan 2013), i may not be pulling the latch right or it is actually stuck.
So i was womdering if anyone else had this problem, and has a solution? Cause even tho i won't be worried about the battery failing straight away. I will need to replace it at some point with new ones.
    Pls help, thx.

First turn the mouse off, using the tiny slide button below the green light.
Then sharply flick the small rectangular black button at the bottom of the plate downwards with your finger nail.   The plate should loosen and pop off.
To replace.   Line up the black button in its rectangular hole and press the plate at point of the circular hole where the sensor shows.
Turn on the mouse, check the green light is steady, then click the mouse twice to activate it.

The battery leaked and now I'm unable to open the battery cover. I took it to an Apple store but they are charging me $69.00 to replace it because it's already out of warranty.  They tried to open it as well but was unsuccessful. Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

    hi macpt88,
I just realised that i've this problem with my keyboard too! my online research has suggested the use of penetrating oils (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penetrating_oil).
i got the suggestion from a camera forum (this is the link: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-43079.html), where people suggested many different ways of getting it open. i'm going back to try WD-40 on the stuck cover. hope it works.
best of luck to you too! if you find a way to get it open, please post it here! i'll do likewise.

  • Has the duff memory module screwed my MB

    I have a Neo2 Platimum AMD64 3200+ (standard heatsink)
    Memory is Corsair CMX512-3200XLPT (2.2.2.5)
    2x 512Mb twinX
Everything has been working fine for the last 2 weeks, but this morning the PC died
I was getting memory initialisation errors on the LED's
So I've now tested each memory module in turn in each of the dimm sockets.
                Skt1(P)      Skt2(G)     Skt3(P)    Skt4(G)
Dim 1      FAIL         WORK        FAIL        WORK
Dim 2      FAIL         FAIL           FAIL        FAIL
So It look's like the MB is broken and the memory too.
Could the memory module have stuffed up the Motherboard ?
The memory controller is on the CPU, could that have been affected ?
Has anyone else had this sort of problem ?
    Andy Cooper

Not having any spare DDR memory I purchaced 128Mb dimm (PC2700) and proceeded to test the slots.
It worked in skt 2 and 4 (same as the working corsair memory module).
So I definitly have a fault on the motherboard and it also looks like I have a fault on one of the corsair dimms.
So either the MB killed the dimm or visa versa.
Looks like 2 RMA's in the offing

  • I am trying to find the tap size for the A1342 m4.3 Case Cover screws

I seem to be having a hard time finding out what the thread size is for the 922-9903 screws used in the A1342 Macbook. I know it list's them as 4.3mm but I would like a bottoming tap to chase the back threads. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks too all for your input. BP

Sounds as though you need to contact an actual service technician or other person with technical knowledge of the product; so maybe someone with that background may be able to get back to you on this...
Or you could try email or phone to a company that does that for a living to see how good their customer service and public relations are. Short of the call center at Apple Support, where you may get an answer, or not. http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
I'd check a smaller venue and ask if someone there can help.
From Alaska, I've called a few and emailed others on occasion.
A few are superior, some are good, a few never replied at all.
    {So you'd get an idea, where I'd consider doing business later.}
If no one replies here, instead you could try the above concept to see if a trades specialist at a business that does this for a living can give you an answer. Here's a place I've talked to http://wegenermedia.com/
There is this little place in South Carolina that does fix things, and may be looking into a processor overheat sensor issue in my early macbook 13" 1.83GHz coreduo, & also replace a switch or cable to a flickering backlit display. I figure the thermo-couple to heatsink needs a cleanup and arctic paste applied, while its there for the display issue.
Hopefully this helps, since these kind of questions seldom get a rise here.
A bit too technical, if you don't catch the right person who may be visiting.
And I've had to repair mechanical film cameras with tiny tap/die sets before.
But not in the 200+ Macs I've owned, repaired, upgraded, donated. Yet.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Satellite Pro 4600 Wireless card does not work with WIN2K ?

I have a Satellite Pro 4600 with UK dealer installed PA3070U-1MPC wireless card running with Windows 2000
The wireless client manager finds the network of my wireless router and reports the signal is excellent and I see all green bars swhowing.
However I can't mske a connection, in 'connections' the wireless one says 'network cable is disconnected'
the router works ok with other laptops in my house.
I have latest version of Win2K also have downloaded and installed latest versions of client manager and WLAN card driver for win2k from toshiba website.
The 'toshiba support in Turkey' told me 'I need a different driver for Win2K for my wireless card cause the win2K driver on the toshiba website is not for 'this' wireless card'. I have waited for this for 3 weeks now and have been unable to reach the elusive UK Level 3 support who supposedly have this driver. I have seen on the internet the same wireless card is has been sold as a 'made by toshiba' accessory and it says it is compatible with Wim2K
What do I do next please ? Does this run at all with Win2K , is there 'another driver' and so on ?
    Thanks

    hello
please be more scpecific - what do you mean by 'disconnect the LAN' - I have nothing conneced there anyway ? do you mean 'disable' the LAN even though there is nothing plugged in ? can you please post the exact sequence of this so I can try ir too.
In the meantime my laptop has been to Toshiba for them to sort out at their highest level UK support base. I was hoping my troubles would be over - but no, read below what happened. They are basically saying my win2k is not in order but I had just installed and updated it so right now I haven't a clue what to do next.
START QUOTE of Toshiba Support response:
    Sat Pro 4600
    Serial No: 31474181G
Windows 2000 SP4 (customers build not recovery CD)
BIOS V1.80 not current therefore updated to V2.60
The notebooks wireless card is functional and has the correct driver installed, it also has the correct and latest version of the Wireless Client Manager. The wireless function appears to see the router but will not connect and obtain an IP address. Irrespective of the settings applied within Internet Explorer or the Wireless client manager you cannot obtain a connection. The customer did not have any Toshiba utilities installed such as, Power Saver, Common Modules, Chipset drivers, network device switch, I therefore installed these missing components and updated the BIOS to the most current revision. However despite this the unit will still not connect to the wireless.
I therefore removed the customers HDD and replaced his HDD with a Toshiba loan HDD with a fresh build that I had created. When using the machine with this build the wireless connected without issue and I was able to browse the internet etc. I placed the customers HDD into our machine and the problem with the wireless was replicated on our machine here, therefore the problem is not with the wireless card or any hardware aspect of the machine, the problem lies with the customer's build of Win 2000. I examined for anything obvious but could not find anything, therefore I'm sending this machine back to customer with the advice that his build needs addressing or he needs to reload Win 2000 his machine.
As you can see from the above comments, the machine performs as per specification with loan HDD and fresh build of Win 2000 installed, the problem is only present with you HDD and build in the machine. In addition to this I have replaced the missing screws on the base of the machine ensuring the machine is structure is maintained.

    1 x B6 Screw
    1 x Memory Cover Screw

  • RAM memory dissapearing

hi. I my PB has 2GB RAM, but after I installed the 10.5.5 update, my PB started reporting only 1 GB of RAM. After I tried the Apple Hardware Test, I got:
    ERROR: post/0/2048 SODIMMO/J25LOWER
i am assuming that this means that my lower RAM stick conked out. weird thing is, I never even opened the RAM compartment before, and this is the original Apple RAM. I think I might be a victim of this-http://www.engadget.com/2005/12/28/mac-os-x-updates-disable-and-or-damage-powerb ook-memory-hardware/2
This isn't my first problem with 10.5.5, I'm getting really ****** at apple for releasing a crappy update...in fact, I didnt ever have any mac problems before 10.5.5
oh, and you should know, I am not able to open my RAM compartment anyway, one of the screws is stuck. and the warranty is long gone...
Now, how do I go about fixing this? Any suggestions and help appreciated greatly.

Lower RAM slot failures are unfortunately fairly common in Aluminum Powerbooks. They have nothing to do with any software update — they just happen. Apple had a repair extension program for this problem which has now expired, and which covered only two of the affected models anyway. Still, it would be worth taking your PB to an Apple Store Genius Bar, showing the Genius your problem, and asking politely whether Apple will replace your logic board at no cost. If the answer is no, ask about the Flat Rate Repair Program, which for less than the cost of a new logic board will fix anything and everything that's wrong with a Powerbook, as long as it shows no signs of rough handling or other abuse. If you've stripped the head of the RAM cover screw you mentioned, that may be a problem as far as eligibility for the FRRP is concerned, or it may not — the eligibility criteria are not published.
If free LB replacement and the FRRP are not available to you, your options are: pay Apple or a third-party repair service full rate for replacing your LB; pay a third-party service such as Wegener Media to repair your existing LB; or run the Powerbook with the maximum of 1GB in the upper slot and leave the lower slot empty.
Again, the failure has nothing to do with the 10.5.5 update. Its timing is coincidental. People have wrongly blamed every Mac OS update for unrelated hardware failures for as long as there have been Macs. This isn't to say that none of the updaters has had bugs, but software updates don't cause hardware failures.

  • Re: Memory upgrade on Satellite U200

Where is the memory located on this model as can not see it with any removableable panel?
    Ta

Do you mean the Satellite U200?
The RAM slots are placed under the keyboard. So you must remove the keyboard holder (between keyboard and LCD), remove the screws securing the keyboard and then remove the keyboard.
On the right side are the memory cover and the RAM slots.
I have no experience with notebook disassembling, to go an local ASP and ask an technician for help.
