Mess up contacts.

mess up contacts since I moved my accoutn to iCloud. They doubled up.

I've seen some other posts recently about people having problems with some of their contacts showing duplicated, missing or incomplete information after enabling iCloud sync but I don't recall seeing any solutions.  You could try searching the forum to see if anyone has a fix, or it might be faster just to fix the ones that are wrong and hope the problem doesn't reoccur.  Good luck.

  • Outrageous messing with contacts by Lumia phones!

Im totally devastated and furious about how the Nokia Lumia handles contacts. When I got my phone I immediately as cautious person realised that something fishy is going on. Since  I want to keep my personal life and professional life separated. (Got my phone as work phone).
Hence I created secondary email at live.com to maintain my professional contacts. So that the phone doesnt do anything what I dont want it to do (These days all this facebook and whatnot sync stuff keens to be way too automated). But now, I went and checked my personal email with the phone, and BAM, all my contacts from personal email account was pulled to the phone. My whole address book was now bloated with old contacts that has been building up since late 90s.
And thats not all, the freaking phone draw ALL my phone contacts to the personal live account also! This is creating so much hate within me towards Nokia phones that they let Microsoft dominate and frankly speaking **bleep** the customers over. Now when I then proceeded to try restore the situation. Its not POSSIBLE! As I filter my main live account what was now cross populated my private account, ALL MY CONTACTS VANISHED FROM PHONE! Im furious. Im beyond description furious of this situation. I can not imagine wasting my day going through those hundreds and hundreds of contacts to try figure out what belongs where. This is serious breach againt my privacy. Now my 2 email accounts have been cross synced and my phone is without any contacts.
I fully acknowledge that it was my fault to make the mistake and use the inbuilt email app to chek my personal emails. It was sheer accident as I understood that this kind of situation can happen. But I would like to use my phone without fear of it  basicly totally screwing me over. I was cautious from the beginning and I slip once and the whole thing is big mess.
I have been loyal Nokia user since my 2110i phone but this ws last straw. This just made me genuinely want to throw this phone out of window and select some other brand.
For god sake let the users SELECT what to do, dont automate everything specially this kind of stuff that can not be recovered. Im very very disapointed about this situation

No idea what you are on about, contacts, while displaying in one combined view; the People Hub, are not mixed between accounts. When different accounts have contacts using the same name they will show as a linked contact, but all information in the contact data is still separated and one account does not have the info from another.
As soon as you remove an account all related contact information is removed. When adding information on the phone you are asked which account it needs to be added to. When creating a new contact you are likewise asked to which account you want the contact added.
Except for the primary account not having the contacts or calendars from that account on the phone is as simple as deselecting the option to include them in the email + account settings for that account.
Maybe you should take a breath, think about what it is you need or wish to know and then ask an actual question on it so we can help you with it. Going on a mindless rant is not going to get you anywhere here.

  • Messed up contacts

I have a problem with my contacts. My contacts are shared by my iPad, my wife's and my iPhone, my MacBook, and my iMac. I have imported the contacts from Palm Pilot forward  through newer Mac computers since Contacts first came out as an application. I presently have hundreds of contacts in Contacts which have been added over the years. The problem is that some of contacts have become interlinked, and generally messed up.
Is there any way of fixing my Contacts without just "biting the bullet" and erasing all the contacts from Contacts and entering them again manually
    Thanks...

I am trying to solve this problem myself. My contacts on my iPad keep getting mixed up, photos and names going crazy. I have had two iPads and I still use the iOS 5. I did not like the iOS 6. They both worked perfectly until a month ago. I do not have a cell phone. I do have a iBook G4 that I use sometimes. It does not matter how many times I re-enter my contacts and their photos. The next day they are all scrambled up again. It takes me an hour to re-enter all that info just to have them get messed up again! I went on Google and a lot of people are going thru the same thing.  Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you.

  • A TOTAL MESS: Duplicated contacts

Hi folks, I have iOS5 on my iPad and syncing on with my Snow Leopard Macs and Mobile Me.
THIS SYSTEM IS A TOTAL MESS. The first thing that happened with enabling mobile me/ cloud with my iPad is that it wiped out ALL My Contacts.  I recovered them from a back up but now I'm getting all sorts of duplicate Contacts and I cannot tell which is what culprit.  The whole poing of syncing is to keep everything the SAME.   This CLoud thing is NOT ready for prime time.  How do I prevent this mess from taking place???

I am simply trying to keep my contact lists synced between my desktop and laptop (Snow Leopard) and my iPad (iOS5).   About a 6 montsh ago, Apple asked me to activate or turn on  mobile me for sharing or something (and gave me the Cloud icon in Mobileme), and then when I installed iOS5 about a month ago, it wanted to make mobile me available, I think, on iCloud or something. Whatever the last step did, it first deleted all my contacts in Addressbook and then when I restored, it keeps duplicating them.
Snow Leopard and iCloud don't work together, your post is confusing enough that I really can't tell what you have done, but I know it is wrong.
Go to www.MobileMe.com and try to login, if you get told that you can't because your account moved to iCloud that is the first question answered, so if that is the case go on to www.iCloud.com and try to login there, if you can you should check that your contacts are there, post back.
PS iCloud came online on Jun 6 2011, so you could not have done this "6 months ago"

  • ICloud messing up contacts and calendar.

Ok, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to get back to only backing up through my macbook. My iPhone currently has 305 contacts (some of which are duplicate linked contact cards). Also, I have groups in my address book and on my iPhone I have two sections: "from my mac" and "from iCloud," and of course there's the "all contacts" section which I tend to use more because of the lack of consistency on the iPhone due to iCloud.
My issue is that I would like to completely go back to being without iCloud (because for now I'm unable to back up my macbook to iCloud -- need to upgrade the software in the future). So what I need help with is how to get some of the contacts out of iCloud and back to the address book on the computer. Because I turned off "iCloud backup" in iTunes but the iCloud issue is still happening on the iPhone. Now if I go into iCloud on the iPhone and turn of contacts it says "What would you like to do with the previously synced iCloud contacts on your iPhone?" The two options are keep on my iPhone and delete from my iPhone. Now I don't know what damage would be done with either option. If I delete I don't know what I might loose and if I keep it I'm guessing I'll keep all the duplicates. Same thing happens if I turn off the contacts. Now, I don't know what happens if you delete your iCloud account on the iPhone....
I just want to know which way is easier to get the contacts/calendar to sync without having to add everything again or without risking loosing everything. Please help!

I don't think you have any choice now.  You can always delete the iCloud account after doing so and not use it.
I'm afraid I'm not sure what else to suggest other than to enter your password.  If you don't know what it is, you'll have to contact Apple support for assistance by calling the Apple account security team for the country you're in: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699.

  • OVI Suite messes up contact when syncing my N8. Wh...

Tried this to confirm these problems:
    1) Deleted all contacts in OVI Suite and on the phone.
    2) Restored the contacts from OVI sync to be sure they are OK
    3) Checked that standard values are set for phone, sms and e-mail
    4) Synced with OVI suite, no contacts updated on phone, all updated in OVI Sync
    5) Did another sync with OVI Suite straight at once.
Now these annoying problems has occured on the phone (and in OVI suite):
    a) Standard settings have been lost for all other than phone. This is annoying becuase the phone will now ask when sending SMS if you want to use the phone number or the e-mail address :-(
    b) Most of the contact have a "Note" added with the text "<< unnamed >>". This is annoying because this not is displayed next to the contacts picture instead of the name or address :-(
So WHY is OVI Suite removing the standard settings for messages?
And WHY is OCI Suite adding the "<< unnamed >>" note for most (but not all) contacts?
(tried to find some logic, but can't find any thing common about the contacts changed)
    Lars-Erik Østerud - http://www.osterud.name/nokia.html

For me even the regular sync gives lot of problems. I can't find the simplest setting of "One way Sync, i.e. only from Mobile to Ovi Suite". And that's what has been creating a problem for me.
Whenever I sync my contacts with Ovi using Ovi Suite many of my updates (which I'd made on the phone since last Sync) are lost.
    This is quite irritating!
@Nokia: Please suggest any solution for this issue.

  • Gmail google cal Spanning Sync MobileMe Contact Address Book = What a mess

    Hi,
I used to have my life on an exchange server, I then switched to use gmail and google calendar but kept my contacts in Mac addressbook (which I imported from outlook).
Now the only clean way I found to sync Google calendar with my iphone is by installing Spanning Sync --> iCal --> MobileMe --> iphone.
I don't use iCal, I don't use mobile me. Just google calendar and iphone.
It all seemed to be peachy but I got greedy and wanted to consolidate my contacts across all of these.
    What a mess!
I now have over two thousand contacts, hundreds of duplicates, hundreds of empty cards, dozens of names without any information whatsoever.
The "find duplicates" and merge functions on address book are a joke and even so, spanning sync seems to keep adding them back on..
    What's going on!?
    Anyone else have this problem?
    How are you solving it?
Or do you have an altogether different system for consolidating google calendar , contacts and iphone!
    HEEELP
    Thanks

Do you mean each Contact has double-entries in the All group? Or do you mean the contacts appear in multiple Smart Groups as well as the All group?
You can restore a previously backed-up Address Book by using the built-in "*Revert to Address Book backup...*" function on the file menu.
Before you start doing anything though I would suggest backup your current messed-up Contacts using the same backup function.
You can also try exporting the All group as a vCard, deleting all your Contacts and smart groups, re-import the vCard and start over. It should notify you on import of duplicates.

  • Help in restoring the contacts which ovi sync mess...

I had meticulously organized all my contacts and synced them with OVI suite to my N8. Then when i trie to sync using OVI suite to OVI.com suite started crashing repeatedly. Then i tried to sync from my mobile and ended up messing up all my contacts with the old ones already on the server.
Ok, now what i want is to delete all these messed up contacts and put contacts from either outlook or ovi suite (yes, luckily the contacts in outlook and ovi suite are intact since i synced only with my handset). Can anybody help?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have a similar problem with messed up contacts by OVI Sync. Duplicates to all of my contacts where created in my OVI Sync database as well as in my N95 after I was trying to synchronise my N95 with my OVI Sync online database (I don't really understand how that happened, however, the problem is happened there are no settings what to do in case when duplicates are found). Right now, the only correct and actual data (contacts, calendar, notes,...) are in my N8, my N95 and OVI Sync online database are messed up (duplicates). And because there are no synchronisation settings (such us where to take the information from when different information are found) neither in my N8 nor in the OVI Sync online server, I am afraid to proceed with any synchronisation using my N8. Thanks for your help and suggestions in advance.

  • All my contacts names have disappeared after upgrading to the lastest IOS. How do I restore this? I can't find people names etc. I run a business and this is not what I expect every time a new ios or something from apple turns up.

I've had issues before with upgrades and now I was skeptical of doing the latest upgrade.
10.7.1..... **** I've got the  latest ios and it's messed my contacts up. Sticking all emails and removing some business contacts numbers so it's been a night mare to run for the last week or so. I don't even see which is important calls or not I just get "no number."
Anyone know a work around or must I wait for the next "upgrade/fix"?
    Andrew

    1.  Purchase your new hard drive and an external enclosure.
    2.  Put your new hard drive in the external enclosure.
    3.  Connect the external hard drive to your mac (FW or USB).
    4.  Use Carbon Copy Cloner (http://www.bombich.com/) to clone your internal drive to the external drive.
    5.  Take the new hard drive out of the external enclosure.
    5.  Open your computer, pull the hard drive out of your Mac.
    6.  Put the new hard drive into your mac.  Close it up.  Turn it on.  It should boot right up.
    7.  Put your smaller drive in the external enclosure and use it for backup, extra storage or whatever.

  • Contacts on iPad are not the same as iPhone after iPad restore

I had to restore my iPad as i had forgotten the password 10 times (dooh!)
i had to create a new itunes as effectively it was a new ipad.
    Everything is generally fine apart from;
    1) the contacts on the iPad are different from my iphone. I am scared to plug in my iPhone to iTunes incase I mess up my contacts on there.
    2) the mailbox set upon my iPad is way different too, for example I now only have an inbox, trash and sent, no junk or others that there were before.
As I said before I am scared to plug my phone in incase it messes my contacts up. e.g it takes the iPad info. and deletes the iphone data. But if that is the only way to do it so be it. And one other thing, I'm not a techno geek, plain words are good for me!
I hope someone can help me please.. Thank you.

The Mac uses Mac OS X and iDevices use iOS. These are two different operating systems and the apps must be written for each operating system specifically, even when the apps go by the same name, such as the iWork apps, they are two ifferent versions of the same app for the two different platforms.
So, as an example, Safari has been written for three different operating systems, Mac OS X, iOS and Windows. And the Safari apps, as similar as they are visually, are not interchangeable for the different platforms.

  • ICloud only sync selective contacts from iPhone

This problem has been driving me crazy for the past 2 weeks.
Allow me to give you the full story so that you can help me.
Since iCloud became online I had no issues syncing outlook on Windows XP , iPhone and iPad contacts , calendars and notes. However, for the past 2 months i noticed that outlook is not syncing properly as the new contacts created on the iPad and the iPhone were not being transferred but I didn't bother as the iCloud / iPhone and iPad always had all the updated contacts.
My problems started when I got a new windows 7 laptop, I exported the outlook contacts from the windows XP machine to the outlook in the windows 7 machine and installed iCloud control panel in the new laptop and had outlook sync with iCloud through the iCloud control panel hoping that I will end up with contacts in outlook matching those in iCloud.
HOWEVER , what happened is that my contacts on iCloud got messed up and ended up messing my contacts on the iPhone and iPad within few minutes. So I went to iCloud.com , deleted everything .... disabled iCloud on the iPhone, used the latest iPhone backup (which had good contacts) and then enabled syncing with iCloud hoping that the contact list will go from the iPhone to iCloud.................. what happened is that out of 1779 contacts only 210 got to iCloud while the rest remain in the iPhone only.
I tried several times to delete the contacts from iCloud, reset the iPhone and establish the iClound link again but to no avail the same number of contacts only goes to iCloud. I also got an app (contacts kit) and saved my iPhone contacts as vCard and went to iCloud.com to import the vCard file it but i got an error relating to exceeding some limit (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4489?viewlocale=en_US) so this is not going to work for me either.
This is really frustrating   as it used to be fine but now for some reason it's not working ................ any ideas or help on how to transfer the full contacts from the iPhone to iCloud will be much appreciated.
    Thank you all

Make sure you created a combo vCard backup of your master contact list in a compatible format (not all vCards are compatible).  If you're not sure, use the app My Contacts Backup to create one.
Then go to iCloud.com from your computer, open your contacts, click All Contacts, select any single contacts and press Control-A to select them all (they should all be highlighted), then press your Delete key to delete them.  Confirm that the contacts are all deleted.  On your phone, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and make sure you have selected iCloud as your default.  (If you don't have multiple accounts syncing contacts on your phone you won't see this setting and can skip this step.)  Then open the email and tap the vCard attachment to import your master contact list back to your phone, and to iCloud and your other devices.

  • Address Book Duplicates/ A Mess

Every contact in my address book that is in a smart group now has double entries for each contact. And the regular groups are doubled and a mess. Sync may have done this. I have a backup of my system, where would I find and what I should copy over?
I tried the look for duplicates function, but it did not fix it.

  • Nokia 7610, contact restore fails

Hi, I made a complete backup of my Nokia 7610 with Nokia PC suite 6.81.13. According to the log file (attached) the backup was done perfeclty. Then, my mobile was repaired (i.e exchanged with a "new" Nokia 7610) and I tried to restore my backup file. It seems to work perfectly well (see attached log) but I only obtained my msgs.. Neither Contacts, nor Agenda.. But if I open the .nbu file (Nokia 7610_17-8-2006.nbu) with notepad, I can see somewhere in the mess, my contacts.. Please, don't tell me that the only way to restore my contacts is manually.. What's wrong? Some other details : Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Build 2600 Service Pack 2 Nokia PC Suite: Version 6.81.13.0 Language: English (but I also tried the french version) Connectivity Cable Drivers: Version 6.81.1.2

Thanks for the help. Noki didn’t worked well for my nbu file, I think mainly because it had Hebrew characters in the contact names. I managed to solve this by eventually, I stripped out the vcard entries and cleaned it a bit with vim, then used perl to put into a format I could read into the PC suite contacts pane and sync’ed it back to the phone, so now I’ve got all my contacts back .
I have to charge Nokia for some 2 hours of my time though That PC suite software is NOT to be trusted, I would recommend all to not rely on the backup and just drag and drop all contacts from the contacts pane in PC suite to a windows folder (will create *.vcf files) and backup them manually. It is probably not a bad idea to backup the entire phone this way too.
Technically speaking, for the interested, the two main issues to solve were character encoding, so I had to use perl and convert any non a-z/A-Z char to “=char value”, which seems to be the format of the vcard PC suite likes. Also had to do some unix/dos line end trials before I got it right. I anyone needs help with this, I’ll be happy to help.
The perl I used is attached (remove the .txt extension), pretty simple. You’ll need a clean text file with the cleaned out vcard entries, the script will split it into vcard files at the format PC suite likes. No liability of course, so use at you own risk. If you have questions let me know.

  • CS5 Contact Sheet II now working erratically..!!

Hi, have been using CS5 with the Contact Sheet 2 thing for over a month now (used it hundreds of times a month with CS4, to do my ebay listings)
but just this days it has thrown up an error message, and also started duplicating some of the images. even though i am contacting only open documents..
what does "because a command was not available" mean.
also below, is an error, where it has duplicated the same page (no i did not have two of it open) but with the second copy very reduced in size, circled in red....
what the hell is going on with CS5..???????.
I think this is a VERY buggy photoshop, more so than any previous version.
any one else having the same problem, and is there an answer, or a work around.
    regards, Sandy

Im experiencing the same problem.  I've been able to make it stop, by executing the command and not touching the mouse.  Moving the mouse appears to mess up Contact Sheet with the latest CS5 update.
