Message id in auto-reply

Dear All,
Can we remove the message-id from the auto-reply?
in an auto-reply the message bounces back to the user including in the body part the following:
Message-id: <[email protected]>
Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2008 21:36:08 +0300
From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]

Can we eliminate the Message-id?

Can we eliminate the Message-id?As per the RFC 2822:
<snip>
3.6.4. Identification fields
Though optional, every message SHOULD have a "Message-ID:" field.
Furthermore, reply messages SHOULD have "In-Reply-To:" and
"References:" fields as appropriate, as described below.
</snip>
So coming back to my earlier question, why would you want to eliminate the message-id: field?

Shane.

  • Inbox rules (auto reply) and Outbox rules questions

    I'm checking incoming messages for a certain subject. If the subject contains the string I want to auto-reply with a certain message.
    The auto-reply works, but I notice the message doesn't show up in the Sent maibox. Is there a reason for that?
    Also, I have an Outbox rule set up to forward the auto-reply mail to another address. That doesn't seem to take place.
    What I really want to accomplish is just to auto-reply and bcc the auto-reply to a 3rd email address. Is that possible?
    Thanks!

    Apart from Lauras excellent answer, make your relay provider whitelist
    your hostname and put it back in place. The hostname *is* important,
    even when using a relay, and is used as sender for other mails, like
    error messages.

  • Is it possible to use a non-null sender in auto-reply / out of office messages?

    I am using a smarthost that blocks null senders by default.  They have indicated that they can provide an override for our server to allow null senders, but the e-mail from null senders will go out a "high risk" IP that is likely to get
    blacklisted because e-mail from null senders is triggering more blacklisting as of late.  I would prefer to make Exchange populate the sender field on the outbound auto-reply / out of office messages.  Is this possible?

    Hi PRDIT,
    Based on my knowledge, it is impossible to achieve this goal by normal method directly.
    Thanks

  • Cannot get new messages to download automatically and auto reply with out of office message have to manually check for new messages to get it to do this

    I am using Mozilla Thunderbird 31.3.0. I know how to create a message filter to set up an auto reply message, but cannot get Mozilla to automatically download new message and auto reply with the message in the filter unless I manually check for new messages, that is the only way to make it work. I have looked online and can't seem to find an answer to this particular issue. According to anything that I have found, I have the correct boxes checked in server settings: check for new messages at startup, automatically check for new messages, check for new messages every x amount of minutes. It's one thing to have to leave my computer on and Thunderbird open to make this work, but to have to manually check for new messages to get the auto response to work defeats the whole purpose of having an auto reply, as I use them for vacations, holidays, etc. I have wondered if there are any security settings that are causing this issue, but if so, I don't know what changes to make to them. Thanks in advance for any help. This is driving me crazy.

    I do find it a bit odd that Thunderbird is not getting mail on schedule, perhaps you have an add-on or anti virus program that prevents that.
    Holding shift while you start Thunderbird will start with add-ons disabled to check if mail come automatically.
    Airmail is right though, use Verizons auto responder. This link might help with that http://www.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/highspeed/account+tools/email+tools/questionsone/85621.htm#
    You say that not having such a setting in Thunderbird is something that needs fixing. This idea comes on the whole because Outlook has such an option. what most people are not aware of it only works with Exchange server. There is no "vacation response" in server mail specifications so every server implements it differently.
    Just as all cars have a radiator, you can not take any radiator and just put it in, they are subtly different even though they perform the same purpose. Same goes for the various vacation responders, They perform the same purpose but they differ between email server software brands.
    Thunderbird leaves it to the server end to expose the functionality, as they are really the only ones who understand what they did. Outlook exposes the option and mostly greys it out.

  • Auto-reply messages not working in pidgin [SOLVED]

    I am not sure if this a configuration issue, but my custom auto-reply messages in pidgin are not popping up when someone messages me. I added myself to my buddy list to trouble shoot and I noticed that the message doesn't appear at all next to my status like it should. I just see 'away'. Any help is appreciated.

    Hmm...I guess I'm stuck oh well. People that message me will have to deal with it when no auto-reply is sent back.

    Hi   SKPATEL
    Thank you for your question.
    By my knowledge, we cannot meet your requirement, you can followed Ed's idea.
    We just use out of office to reply all email without original email when the recipient is out of office.
    You can refer to the following link to configure out of office:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997463(v=exchg.80).aspx
    If there are any questions, please let me know.

  • Creating an auto-reply message by command line

    Hi,
    Is it possible to create a an auto-reply message by command line? Need to create one but I have the users password and don't want to reset his password.
    TIA,
    Henry

    Thanks Pterobyte.
    I guess I did not search far enough back to find this. I did have to google en example of script. I've posted it below for future reference.
    # This is a sample script for vacation rules.
    # Read the comments following the pound/hash to find out
    # what the script is doing.
    # Make sure the vacation extension is used.
    require "vacation";
    # Define the script as a vacation script
    vacation
    # Send the vacation response to any given sender only once
    # every seven days no matter how many messages are sent
    # from that sender.
    :days 7
    #For every message sent to these addresses
    :addresses ["[email protected]"]
    # Make a message with the following subject
    :subject "Out of Office Reply"
    # And make the body of the message the following
    "I'm out of the office for an extended period of time and will not have access to email. "
    # End of Script

  • Mail auto reply - vacation message

    Can anyone tell me where I need to go to do "out of the office message" or "auto reply". Im using mac.com on my email. Is it on mac.com or in the mail somewhere? Thanks

    Go to Mail>Help and type Reply in the query box. Then select "sending replies automatically" but read the entire explanation so you are aware of the hazards. By logging on my ISP website I can set up this function. The one from my ISP works well so you might want to look into that option if your ISP provides it.

  • Auto-reply Message Could Not Be Dequeued

    Hi,
    I am using iMS 5.2 HF 1.25. I found that the auto-reply function of my messaging server here is not working properly. User receives email indicating the auto-reply message had been enqueued and could not be dequeued after 9 hours instead of the auto-reply message itself. This only happens on several users.
    I tried to do the following:
    1. imsimta stop
    2. kill all the 'autoreply_master' process
    3. imsimta cleandb
    4. imsimta start
    After this, the auto-reply function works fine. However, it is working inconsistently. In other words, sometimes users do receive the auto-reply message successfully, but sometimes they don't.
    Any idea of what's wrong?
    Besides, after step 4 above, my job_controller and dispatcher were started again. However, I can't see any 'autoreply_master' process running when I execute "ps -ef". Would that cause any problem to my messaging server? How should I bring the process up again?

    from the 5.2p2 buglist:
    4976449 autoreply can omit To: header
         () [mta] {}
    5003390 autoreply channel generates incorrect envelope From: address
    () [mta] {}
    5004448 $SUBJECT autoreply substitution works once per message
         () [mta] {}
    I think the second one could be the cause of what you're seeing. . .
    I would download and apply the 5.2p2 patch, and see if that fixes it.

  • How can I change "do not disturb" 's auto reply message?

    When I turn on do not disturb in my iphone 5, then when someone
    call there is auto-reply that “the number you dial is busy now”. How can I
    change this auto- reply message? Could I change to “the number you dial is
    power off”  ?

    What do you want to do? If you turn on Do Not Disturb, this is the result - your phone is busy. Turn off Do Not Disturb or allow those callers you want to get through in  Settings > Do Not Disturb >  Allow Calls From.
