How one user can subscribe to one mailing list ? There is no native functionality to allow a user to "self-subscribe" to a mailing list. This functionality is planned for a future release of the product.

    Hi, Brian
    No easy answers. First what language do you intend to use?
    You could
    check out hotscripts.com for a message board, their are many
    free ones
    around such as Galleon
    http://galleon.riaforge.org/
    and
    http://forum.snitz.com/ and no
    doubt many others, but you will need to
    know what language you want to use.
    The list would generally be held in a database and the mail
    sent by
    looping through the database for mail addresses that meet a
    certain
    criteria.
    Again, the email form would depend on the language you are
    using, email
    forms are generally pretty straight forward.

  • OS X 10.5 Server - Mailing lists

    I'm trying to get mailing lists on OS X 10.5 server to work, but when I place the check mark in the "enable server group mailing lists" in server admin it does not allow me to select the server name from "Enable the following servers for this group on" xxx in the workgroup manager. What would be the best way to trouble shoot this issue?
    I've checked the console log and the mail logs and do not see any errors when enabling the server group mailing lists.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Dear BDAqua, YOU ARE A DUDE! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!  I was expecting this to take ages etc etc...
    It worked just like you said - took a reboot to put the HD image back on the Desktop, but what's a reboot or two between friends. I am soo releived. Thank you so much!
    I don't know if you'll remember, but you helped me previously with trying to install this .....thing of a server....
    Well now it's installed I now find out it can do more damage running than just being awkward and refusing.
    To be honest, I'm so fed up with it the only thing stopping me upgrading to a new set up is the cost of the extra 3rd party software/app upgrades to work on 10.8... (I run 10.8 on my wife's macmini and it appears quite good...)
    I also know that somehow I'm going to have to find info to set this up without any more scares like this. I haven't been able to connect the client (my other 2) macs yet - perhaps I don't know enough yet? The original manual while saying quite a lot, doesn't really explain much very well...
    Do you know anywhere I could learn to set this up? Maybe websites, youtube channels or the such like?
    Many, many thanks again. I owe you one. I'd like to buy you a drink, but I don't think it would last across the atlantic...(I'm in Wales, in the UK), and I think you're in the USA somewhere?
    Anyway, thanks for saving my bacon, and If you have any other info regarding setting up 10.5 server please drop us a line when you have a moment, otherwise, Thank you and Godbless.

  • Messaging Server: mail and mailalternativeaddress attributes must be unique

    Email addresses for a given User Directory must have unique mail
    and mailalternativeaddress
    attributes.
    <P>
    Messaging Server uses the following two attributes to search for email
    addresses in the User Directory:<BR>
    <P>
    <OL>
    <LI>mail
    <LI>mailalternativeaddress
    </OL>
    <P>
    Each email address in the User Directory must have unique entries for these
    two attributes. If a given email address appears twice in the User Directory,
    the Messaging Server will display an error message and will not deliver the
    email to either address. In the case where a user wants email that is
    addressed to one email address to go to other email addresses as well (e.g., if
    a user has multiple accounts), you would need to create a group for that user
    and add the other email addresses to the group.
    <P>
    <B>Additional Notes:</B>
    <P>
    <UL>
    <LI>Administration Server 3.x and 4.x have various mechanisms for
    reducing the likelihood of user error when creating email accounts.
    <P>
    <LI>Administrators of Directory Server 4.x servers should also be aware that
    the mail and
    mailalternativeaddress
    attributes must be unique to prevent collisions between those two attributes.
    <P>
    The uid uniqueness plugin maintains uniqueness within attributes, but not across attributes.
    Using this feature for both attributes cannot fully prevent address collisions.
    <BR><P>
    For example, a user could theoretically enter duplicate values for the
    mail and
    mailalternativeaddress attributes:
    <BR>
    <P>
    mail: [email protected]
    <BR>
    <P>
    mailalternativeaddress: [email protected]
    <P>
    Although the server would initially accept this value for both attributes, it
    will post an error message later when it processes an email addressed to this
    address.
    </UL>

    What does “I overwrote the information in Accounts” mean? What exactly did you do? More info, please.
    Deleting a mail account (which i not the same as overwritting the account information) causes all your mail stored in that account’s mailboxes to be removed from the computer as well, and you you were warned that this would happen by an alert similar to this for Mail 2.x (I don’t know what the exact wording is in Mac OS X 10.3):
    Remove Account
    Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
    This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected.For IMAP-type accounts, this is not a problem because mail is stored on the server. If you deleted a POP account, however, your mail has certainly been wiped out from the computer, not just moved somewhere.
    To prevent that from happening, you should have moved your mail to custom “On My Mac” mailboxes instead of leaving it in the account’s mailboxes. Actually, using the account’s Inbox and Sent mailboxes for archiving purposes is a bad idea regardless — see Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty.
    If the POP account was configured to leave the messages on the server for some time, setting up the account again would cause any messages still on the server to be downloaded again, just like for IMAP accounts, but this would only work for received mail that has not yet been removed from the server.
    If the messages are not on the server and you don’t have a backup (which you should have made before doing something like that), you may try to salvage as many deleted mbox files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 2.x). Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

    Hm. You're sure you're using that particular combination of products?
    iDA 4.5 was never supported for Messaging Server. We had 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 versions, provided with Messaging 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2.
    Messaging 6.0 does not come with iDA, nor is it supported, at present. . .
    Are you using Schema 1 or Schema 2 for your Messaging Server?
    Have you tried using the commcli provided with Messaging Server?

  • How do I set the mailhost attribute in Messaging Server 3.5?

    <B>Intent of the hostname aliases feature: </B><BR>
    In Messaging Server 3.5, the hostname aliases feature is designed to facilitate migrating and co-hosting. For
    instance, if you set up all of your sales and marketing users on one Messaging Server, but suspect that you'll
    want to split those groups in the future, you can give the sales users the mailhost value sales.company.com and
    the marketing users the mailhost value mktg.company.com. This feature can also be used for fast failover if
    you want to be able to move a group of users quickly from one Messaging Server to another.
    <P>
    <B>How to use hostname aliases and how to set mailhost and MessageHostName settings: </B><BR>
    Each user's mailhost attribute can have only one value. All users on a single Messaging Server do not need to
    have the same mailhost value in the LDAP directory. The user's mailhost value should match one of the
    MessageHostName attribute values in netscape.mail.conf. (On Unix, the path to this file is
    /etc/netscape.mail.conf. Windows NT users must use Notepad to create this file in
    server-root\bin\mail\Server\etc, where server-root is the base directory where your SuiteSpot servers are
    installed.)
    <P>
    With Messaging Server 3.5 and later, MessageHostName can have multiple values. Think of hostnames as
    colors. Each mail account in the LDAP server has a single color. Each Messaging Server has one or more
    colors. A Messaging Server will check an LDAP account's color (mailhost) against its own color(s)
    (MessageHostName), and if they match, the server considers the account to be local. <P>
    For example: <BR>
    MessageHostName=red.company.com,green.company.com,blue.company.com
    <BR>where original-host-name is the machine's real name. This entry must come first as the server uses the first
    entry to generate machine specific postmaster forms. The subsequent host names can be any values that you
    wish separated by commas that are inside the brackets. Do not place spaces anywhere on the line.
    <P>
    In this example, if the mailhost setting for the user is set for either red.company.com or green.company.com, or
    blue.company.com, the server will consider the user to be local. (Hostname aliases must also be configured in
    DNS. Please see the DNS section at the end of this technote.) No other Messaging Server should list either
    red.company.com or green.company.com or blue.company.com in the MessageHostName field. Mail could
    not be delivered properly if either red.company.com or green.company.com or blue.company.com were listed
    in any other server's MessageHostName field. A user with a mailhost setting of violet.company.com would not
    be considered local to this machine.
    <P>
    Although it is possible with Messaging Server 3.52 to list more than 16 different host names in the
    MessageHostName field, it is not recommended because increasing the number of hostnames in this field beyond
    16 will have a negative impact on performance. This feature is intended to provide fast failover and/or
    migration of users. If users need to be divided up into many smaller groups, the use of some other LDAP
    attribute is recommended.
    <P>
    In Messaging Server 3.0, you can associate a server with only one host name. Consequently, all mail accounts
    on a given server must have the same mailhost value in the LDAP directory. This should be the name of the
    server, i.e. host.company.com
    <P>
    </A>A note about DNS
    Hostname aliases must be configured in DNS. This is done with a CNAME record. For example:
    A 128.101.101.101
    CNAME
    <P>
    Additional MX records are not required to use hostname aliases.
    <P>
    If you aren't sure about how to configure your DNS records, consult the book <I>DNS and Bind </I> by Paul Albitz and
    Cricket Liu.

  • Messaging Server and Mailing Lists

    Hello,
    is Messaging Server capable for use as a mailing list server like mailman to which one can send subscribe, unsubscribe and help messages? If yes, can one point me to the right documentation about that?
    Thank you very much.
    Greetings,
    Willi

    Hello Ajith,
    Look at this and try downloading "mailmanwrapper.pl "
    http://ims.balius.com/downloads/
    I looked at the script but I do not understand the mapping to the LDAP database backend of the Messaging Server. In the script it is said "The ldap entries for the above aliases are below the script" but there are no such entries. In another wrapper script from Stephen Balukoff I found the following example LDAP entries:
    dn: uid=list,ou=Mailman,ou=People,o=${mail_domain},o=isp
    objectClass: mailRecipient
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: inetMailUser
    objectClass: inetLocalMailRecipient
    mailUserStatus: active
    mail: list@${mail_domain}
    mailHost: ${mail_host}
    uid: list
    mailDeliveryOption: program
    mailProgramDeliveryInfo: mailman-post
    dn: uid=list-request,ou=Mailman,ou=People,o=${mail_domain},o=isp
    objectClass: mailRecipient
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: inetMailUser
    objectClass: inetLocalMailRecipient
    mailUserStatus: active
    mail: list-request@${mail_domain}
    mailHost: ${mail_host}
    uid: list-request
    mailDeliveryOption: program
    mailProgramDeliveryInfo: mailman-mailcmd
    dn: uid=list-admin,ou=Mailman,ou=People,o=${mail_domain},o=isp
    objectClass: mailRecipient
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: inetMailUser
    objectClass: inetLocalMailRecipient
    mailUserStatus: active
    mail: list-admin@${mail_domain}
    mailHost: ${mail_host}
    uid: list-admin
    mailDeliveryOption: program
    mailProgramDeliveryInfo: mailman-mailowner
    mailAlternateAddress: list-owner@${mail_domain}
    Are this entries correct for the list aliases in mailmanwrapper.pl?
    Thank you.

    Accessing your emails from any computer connected to the Internet or from a Smart phone should be straightforward.

  • I dont receive e-mails with attachment sent to OS X Server 3.0.1 Group-mailing lists

    I have a small company using a mac mini with mavericks and server 3.0.1.
    We are using most of the services available in OS X server (except DHCP, Netinstall and Xsan). One of the services we use the most is Mail server, and the whole company uses that as our primary mail server.
    We have set up several different Groups and activated group-mailing lists on some of them. The setup has been working very good for over a year (started using it with Mountain Lion Server).
    Recently I was going to send a christmas card to all employees using the workgroup mailing list. I was using the stationaries in Mail, and it was sent as normal but never recieved by me or any of the other employees. Below is the SMTP Log

    I did some trial and error and it seems like it is linked to the fact that I have attachments to the email. Sending an email with only text is recieved like normal. Even attacment like PDF or jpg is "blocked" it seems. I have tried using email outside my domain but still the same result. Sending the same email (with attachment) to all reciepients (not using the mailiing list) works and is recieved by everyone. I have turned off all email filtering settings on the server but still the same result.
    Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? My guess is that this is a Server 3.0.1 hickup, so it would be nice to get confirmation from others experiencing the same.

  • Sending mail to all users in Messaging Server 5.2

    Hi,
    I'm trying to send mail to all the users in my mail server, but haven't been able to do it. I'm using a command called deliver which is found in /opt/iplanet/server5/bin/msg/store/bin . I've tried sending messages to all users but have been successful in sending only to one user. Got any ideas??

    To create a dynamic mailing list:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/816-6009-10/users.htm
    If you're familir with ldapmodify, you can locate the user's pab in the directory server, and remove what you find there, but, honestly, I'd talk to the user first.. . .. .
    A user can work around removal of such, very easily. Any mail client, and a copy/paste will do it.

    1. Right click on groups folder in Console
    2. Choose New->Group
    3. Entering all data and checking "Mail Account" under Account
    The documentation sais, that a Mail-tab should now appear. But this is not the case for me!?
    I can only create the group like this and have to add the attribute "mail" - to enter an email address - manually..
    Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong or missing something? Also disallowing posting on this group can only be set manually. Shouldnt all this be done using a nice GUI dialog?
    I'm using Directory Server 5.2 Patch 2. Also tried 5.2 Patch 4. Both same problem.

    Hello everyone,
    I have been trying to enable a new (?) feature of Server.app : "Enable group mailing list". Until now, it does not work for me. Does any has any good/bad experience with group mailing lists under Mountain Lion Server ? Any advice ?
    Thanks a lot !

    Hello Mark23 and thanks for your help !
    The log says nothing particular when I (un)set the "Enable Group Mailing List Option". The only difference I see is a line saying mail_groups[127]: sleeping for: 1 hour(s). I have no idea what this means exactly. Googling it did not help me much either.
    I post the /etc/aliases file below. Interesting : every time I (un)set the "Enable Group Mailing List" option, the /etc/aliases last access time changes. But the md5 hash of the file stays the same.
    I guess that the "sudo newaliases" uses /etc/aliases to construct the binary database file /etc/aliases.db ? It seems that this script is run every time I (un)check the option since the access time of *both* /etc/aliases and /etc/aliases.db are changed to the current time.
    Do you have any other option checked ?
    Here is my /etc/aliases (I removed the blocks of comments at the beginning and at the end):

    message to sender," "Notify the postmaster via email," and "Log the error in
    the log file." Yet, in this situation, an error message is being sent to
    postmaster, but not to the sender, and the error is not being recorded in the
    log file.

    Do the following steps:<BR>
    <P>
    <OL>
    <LI>From Console, open the appropriate Messaging Server.
    <LI>Click the Configuration tab.
    <LI>Open the Services folder.
    <LI>Select SMTP.
    <LI>Click the System tab.
    </OL>
    <P>
    Check the "Domain handled by this server exclusively" field to make sure that
    your mail domain is listed. If your mail domain is not listed, then Messaging
    Server will assume that there is another mail server that is handling the
    domain listed and will forward requests to this server.

    If this:

    is to be believed, it seems to indicate that your NAM configuration on
    this server is not valid. I'm not seeing this message here on the OES
    servers I looked at, and NAM is working correctly here.
