Metadata not writing to jpgs

We keep all of our photos on a Windows Home Server 2011 shared folder.
Previously, we kept all our photos in a WHS v1 shared folder and it did not exhibit these issues.
The issue:
Metadata not writing to jpgs
We manage all our photos with Adobe Lightroom 3 and it is set to write metadata to a file immediately, which it does intitally or after a new import (We
edit our photos with ratings first, which writes to the file).
Any change after the first metadata write the "!" or "Up Arrow" appears and indicates that metadata has been changed externally.  Even after you select
overwrite settings the "!" or "Up Arrow" stays.
If we select a batch set of photos and right click and navigate to Save Metadata...Lightroom will try to write and finish, but none of the changes get
applied to the photo.
Metadata will write if we manually save metadata to each individual file, but the "!" or "Up Arrow" still appears.
If the files are located on a local drive, Lightroom will continue to make metadata changes to the file.
I feel this is a permissions issue.  Has anything regarding file permissions changed from WHS v1 to WHS 2011?
Homegroup on WHS 2011 was turned on, but is now disabled.
Any thoughts on how Lightroom gain the proper permissions to keep writing to a file?
Also, since I turned off Homegroup there are permissions for a user Account Unknown.  Should this be there?

LR is accessing the file system with the credentials of your user account - so the first step is to verify that your user account has the proper permissions on your WHS (usually FullControl on the share and Read, Write, Modify on NTFS permissions).
I'm not familiar with WHS but I think Homegroup is the workgroup that hosts your user accounts - I would turn this back on then you should see the name of that Account Unknown user

  • Metadata not writing to file, metadata status "..."

    Until recently, I am sure that saving metadata to file worked fine.  Now, when I do it for a selection, it appears to write (with disk activity and dialogue of files being updated), but then afterwards I still have <mixed> status on the set.  Some within are updated, others show status <...>.
    Catalogue says there is no corruption - so what's going on?  How do I fix it?  And should I worry about teh state of my images?
    Thanks for any help

    Now see that when I save for some that show "Changed", it writes, then returns to
    say either "..." or back to "Changed".  It seem to think that the catalogue has some changes each time.

  • Photoshop file will not save as jpg

    I took a series of portraits from a session last week. We downloaded the images as jpgs and edited them in Photoshop. Then we converted the photoshop files into jpgs. All but two converted. Those two images had nothing different done with them. Same processes all the way through.  It is saying, "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
    Why would two select PS files not convert to jpg?
    We have had done this same process with hundreds of sessions, but this is now happening. Two images from the last session did the same thing as well. Other than that, we've never had this issue.

    "Program Error" means something unexpected happened.
    It could be a problem with the OS, the disk drive, or something really bizarre in the image metadata.

  • Exif metadata not displayed in Metadata panel & searching

    Is there a way to customize the exif and/or IPTC data shown in the Metadata panel in LR 5?
    And is there a way to search and/or filter on metadata not in that panel?
    I needed to find some photos that have the exif category "art filter" and I cannot search for the value in that field in LR, nor does that field show up in the metadata panel. I can see it with J. Friedl's metadata plugin, or in GraphicConverter, so I know it's there. I tried searching on the text, but LR doesn't find it. What I'd really love is the feature where you have the little arrow by the metadata value in the panel and click it to filter by that criteria.
    Is there a way to get LR to recognize and display other exif or IPTC data?

    I'm not sure which metadata field you want to search -- is it the IPTC field "Category"?  That field is displayed in Metadata > IPTC panel in the right column:
    Unfortunately, that field is not searchable using LR's text search filter or smart collections.
    In general, to view and search metadata fields not fully handled by LR, you've got to use a third-party plugin:
    - Metadata Extensions makes additional fields that LR knows about searchable using the filter bar and smart collections.
    - ExifMeta makes nearly all metadata fields viewable and searchable in LR.
    - Data Explorer lets you more quickly view, search, and browse more of the fields that LR knows about.
    - Any Filter lets you search any field LR knows about, writing boolean search queries similar to smart collections.
    These plugins have different capabilities and are optimized for different use cases.

  • Metadata not writeable via Bridge

    Annoying but not crucial problem -- I have recently migrated image management from iPhoto (save those brickbats, folks) to Bridge. In some folders containing psd or jpg images, there is sometimes an image file whose metadata cannot be appended, replaced, or edited. I checked file permissions using Terminal, and the file has the same permissions as all the other files in the folder. I opened one of these files in CS3 and edited the metadata, but after saving and closing, the metadata doesn't show in Bridge. Purging cache has no effect on this problem.
    iMac 2.16 core 2, Leopard 10.5.4, CS3 10.0.1, Bridge 2.1.1.9.

    I'm not sure but do believe it has something to do with OsX 10.5, there are some issues about metadata to psd and jpg files.
    Apart from that I personally would not go in to terminal for file permissions. In finder you could do with the get info command to check and have you already tried to select one of the files in Bridge and use the right mouse click (or ctrl click) to see if the file can be locked or unlocked?

  • Can not view downloaded jpg photos after ios 7 install

    I installed ios 7 on my ipad 3. Now I can not view my jpg picture. They show blank.

    Try a Restart.
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your settings
    You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
    Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
    Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • How do I create a photo in jpg or other photo format from a frame within iMovie11.  The suggestion I have found from earlier versions of iMovie does not create a jpg file that can be revealed in Finder. Help please.

    How do I create a photo in jpg or other photo format from a frame in iMovie. The previous suggestions on here do not create a jpg file when you chose reveal in finder when using iMovie11 and OS X

    First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
    In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
    Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
    In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
    In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
    Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
    You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.
    Here is a video I made that steps through this...
    I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Not writing to file

    Hi,
    I have made a program that reads a string, converts it to bytes, then writes to a file.
    Well i got the first two working, but its not writing to file. I know it should work cos i have written to file on my previous tests, but when i used a FOR loop it stoped working. Do ya know why. Below is the code...
    for (int a = 0;a = bytes.length - 1;a++){
    of.write(bytes[a]);
    System.out.print(" " + bytes[a] + " : " + bytes.length);
    My friend told me to use bytes.length - 1 as it is meant to stop the OUTOFBOUNDS error.
    OK,
    my regards
    Below is the whole program, its a bit messy cos i got lots of old code that i have blocked.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.lang.String;
    public class sender implements Runnable {
    int i= 0;
    String mes;
    int count =0;
    int b = 0;
    boolean yes = false;
    public static void main (String[] arguments) {
    Thread th = new Thread (new sender());
    th.start ();
    //sender();
    //while (true){}
    public void run() {
    try {
    Thread.sleep(100);
    } catch (InterruptedException e) {}
    String mesdialog = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null,
    "Enter your message");
    mes = mesdialog.toString();
    try {
    //FileOutputStream of = new
    //FileOutputStream ("send.txt");
    FileWriter of = new
    FileWriter("send.txt");
    //BufferedReader in = new
    // BufferedReader(fr);
    //while (true){}
    int i = 66;
    boolean eof = false;
    int inChar = 0;
    //String inChar;
    byte[] bytes = mes.getBytes();
    /* < disable / enable
    do {
    int n=Integer.MIN_VALUE;
    try{
    n = Integer.parseInt(mes);
    } catch (NumberFormatException nfe){
    //inChar = n;
    if (inChar != -1) {
    byte outChar = (byte)inChar* ;
    //char outChar = (char)inChar ;
    of.write(outChar);
    System.out.println("" + outChar);
    //of.write(mes,0,20);
    } else
    eof = true;
    } while (!eof);//*/
    for (int a = 0;a = bytes.length - 1;a++){
    of.write(bytes[a]);
    System.out.print(" " + bytes[a] + " : " + bytes.length);
    while (!yes) {
    if (bytes[b] == 32 )
    yes = true;
    else {
    of.write(bytes);
    System.out.print(" " + bytes[b]);
    b++;
    //System.exit(0);
    //outfile.write(input);
    } catch (IOException e) {
    System.out.print("AAA ERROR");}

    your friend was obviously wrong.
    for (int a = 0;a = bytes.length - 1;a++){ // that does nothing
    of.write(bytes[a]);
    System.out.print(" " + bytes[a] + " : " + bytes.length);
    }the above "for" loop says :
    1:initialize a with 0;
    2:do loop while a=bytes.length(<-that's completely wrong. it should be
    a boolean expression);
    3:for each loop increment "a" by one.
    try this:for (int a = 0;a < bytes.length;a++){
    of.write(bytes[a]);
    System.out.print(" " + bytes[a] + " : " + bytes.length);

  • "Could not save x.jpg because the file is already in use or was left open...

    Win 7 pro 64, CS5.0 using InDesign 7.0.4 and Photoshop 12.0.4 x64.
    Using InDesign to create a manuscript with images. Right click on image to "Edit Original"
    Opens image in Photoshop. Make changes, go to save.
    Error message "Could not save x.jpg because the file is already in use or was left open by another application"
    Using a free utility called Unlocker Assistant, it shows that the file has been locked by InDesign
    The workaround is to then use Unlocker Assistant to unlock the image in in the Links folder, but this is a pain and it is happening too frequently.
    Putting in that error message I get no google matches.
    Anyone know why Indesign is locking the image, when it is the InDesign program that is supposed to be sending it to Photoshop for editing so it can be changed and then overwrite the original image?
    Note that it is not consistent but I cannot find any pattern to determine why it sometimes fails and other times allows the altered image to be saved.

    You will get a quicker response to post this in the InDesign Fourm http://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign/indesign_general

  • Ultra 10 not writing to path_to_inst

    Hello I have a Ultra 10 system, Solaris 8, 64-bit. I installed an Antares gigabit quad card and for some reason its not writing to the /etc/path_to_inst file. I installed the package and the package is showed doing a pkginfo. Issueing the command prtconf | grep ANTR it shows the instance numbers. Doing a reboot, the drivers becomes de-attached. In order to get the card to work properly I have to manually add the driver using /usr/sbin/add_drv -i. Has anyone had this problem with not being able to configured quad gigabit ethernet devices before. I installed two standard hme sun pci nics into the machine and they configured properly and wrote to path_to_inst file automatically. Please help.

    The problem you are having is probably a third party issue that will take either Antares or Sun to fix for you. There seems to be quite a few posts concerning these cards and I still have no practical experience of them :-(
    However, if you have a command process that works, just put it into your startup scripts and `bob's your uncle`, no more having to do it manually every time. I would probably configure your gig at the same time!

  • IPhoto will not import certain JPG files

    I have just migrated to a 2012 Retina 15" MacBook Pro from a 13" MBP. I am using Mavericks 10.9.1 and iPhoto 9.5.1. The MBP is a 2.7gHz quad core with 16GB of memory and a 768GB SSD. I was trying to tidy up my hard disc and import some .jpg files from the output folder on my Capture One Session. iPhoto will not import certain jpg files but will import others. The message I get is as follows  The following file could not be imported.  The file is an unrecognised format. Then shows below for example /Users/xxxx/Pictures/Capture One Session/Output/L1000212.jpg.
    I first tried creating a new library and importing to that with no success. I then rebuilt the database. I repaired permissions. I deleted the iPhoto.plist and its caches and restarted - no success. I then deleted iPhoto and reinstalled from App Store after deleting the plist and caches again. Still no luck. The .jpg files in question open perfectly in Photoshop CC and Preview. I tried altering them slightly and resaving but still they would not import. I reinstalled Mavericks - no improvement. If I reconvert the files from the original DNG's into TIFF files, then they will import to iPhoto
    Any ideas anyone?
    Wilson

    I just recorded an action in Photoshop CC to assign ProPhoto colourspace save and close. Then copied all the problem jpegs into a temp file and ran the action. With this super fast machine, It only took a few minutes to convert 500+ files and they have now all imported perfectly. I have changed my JPEG recipe to convert DNG's from embedded to ProPhoto.
    Thanks again. Colourspace would never have occurred to me.

  • Programme written in 6.1 is not writing to file in 7.0

    The programme written in 6.1 was designed to write data into file but i have installed labview 7.0 now and the same programme is not writing to file.

    Hi,
    Here is the detailed information.
    I am running this Labview VI for collecting data through a network analyser and controlling motion of motors through DAQ card. I have already run the cd of drivers given with Labview 7.0
    The exact subvi used for writing file is the hp8720 collect data. This thing has been installed in the Laptop with version 6.1 of Labview. What I have done is that I have taken the same programme and changed its algorithm in Labview 7.0 on a different comp and copied the file back. Then I installed labview 7.0 on the Laptop and tried running the new programme. But everything is working except the writing to file. Error handling has been put up and the message I get is Error reading/writing from/to file. Check file name.
    Kindly h
    elp out.

  • Metadata not displaying properly in movie list view 12.1.0.50

    Has anyone had issues with metadata not displaying properly in iTunes iTunes 12.1.0.50?
    Seems since the last update or maybe even before that the metadata is not displaying properly in the movies/list view window. All seems fine in the movies window with the display, nice art work along with all the metadata which I've been adding with the Subler app. Been using this app a long time and it has always been fine.
    As can be seen in the attached screen shot, the titles of the lower entries are missing and the director information shows where the artists should be.
    When I got to get info everything is as it should be. Any solutions out there?

    I had been experiencing this very same problem, and it drove me crazy. Luckily, after searching for the answer on multiple forums, I found a solution. MetaX is a program designed specifically for tagging iTunes movies. Not only can you manually input all the required information, but you can also automatically input all the information from outside sources from within the program. It worked beautifully for me with my copy of Donnie Darko, which I ripped using HandBrake.

  • AICC Course Completions are not writing back to LSO

    We are on LSO 602 and we have both SCORM and AICC courses.  We have implemented the Single SCO Badi w/ the sample code that was provided.  This has helped solve the problem w/ the Single SCO completion progress, but we are having problems now w/ the AICC courses.
    AICC courses are not writing anything back to the LMS (we can see this through the API log while playing the courses in AE).  Now, when a student takes an AICC course in the portal, passes it, and confirms participation, they are followed up as Failed and Confirmed Participation.  The completion specification infotype specifies that 0% of the Learning Objects is required to pass the course.
    This has made it unclear as to whether we can use the standard implementation of teh Single SCO Badi in conjunction with AICC courses.
    Has anyone had success w/ AICC courses writing completion back to SAP LSO correctly?  And has anyone has success w/ AICC courses while the Single SCO Badi is implemented?
    Thanks!

    We do have the same problem. We implemented interface to a vendor for aicc courses and once course is completed they are sending as 100% completion to our CP but  SAP tables are not updated at all. Did you firgured it out what's the solution for your problem
