Metadata Panel missing in Bridge

I have the latest version of CS4 (11.0.2).
I was working in Adobe Bridge when an error msg. appeared saying that Bridge had a problem and would close. I rebooted, and when I accessed Bridge again, the Metadata Panel was missing. I have "Metadata Panel" checked under the Window menu item, but that doesn't help. I've unchecked and rechecked it, but to no avail.
Any thoughts?

I just fixed the problem by resetting the preferences. I found another problem in the forum that was solved in this manner, and I tried it. It worked, but I have no idea why.

  • Export Panel missing in Bridge CC

    I used to ahve an Export Panel in Bridge CC which I used to export several RAW or PSD photos to JEPG, with the upgrade to CC it's gone. How am I supposed to export several photos to JPEG? One by one in Photoshop? Really?

    It's garbage. It's too much work, it takes too long.
    I would suggest to stop this pissing-contest about Bridge vs Lightroom. So many users, so many workflows. There are a vast number of photographers very happy with LR and we should respect that. Personally my preferred workflow is Bridge and PS and I almost don't use LR as I also can't get very used to Apple's Aperture. But I have both also installed on my system and when needed I use it because each of them has also some strong points.
    Everyone is entitled to his/hers opinion in the same way as everyone is entitled to have a perfect workflow with the chosen application for his/hers own profession.
    As I stated before. I work in the software business and when we release a new version of our software we ADD finctionality, not take it away.
    I can only fully agree with that
    I am also not sure who was beta testing the software.
    As I always understood Adobe beta testers are under NDA so we probably never will know that...
    I cannot imagine that nobody has mentioned this during this beta phase.
    So can't I, but now you are stating that large companies (read: the bean counting department, not the developing department) start to listen to their clients and before you know we are living in Utopia
    Also, I don't know why Adobe took it away. Was it such a big piece of software that was impossible to upgrade?
    Let's face it, the export panel never has been what it could or should be. It was crippled and difficult to use, many problems with Facebook and Flickr uploads that was only possible in a few countries.
    But I agree, instead of take it away they should have developed it to perfection (now I'm also on route to Utopia)
    Meanwhile you can use the Image Processor and even batch processing via the tools menu that offers much and much more options to customize. This means PS to be active but that should not be a big problem I would think?

  • IPTC extended metadata panel in Bridge CS5

    Hi, hope someone can help me here.
    I am working in a museum digitizing paintings and using Bridge CS 5 to enter the metadata. IPTC extended is ideal for that, but I can not access the metadata panel to the side. I have found it in the preferences (and did all the clicking and customization) but it still does not display. I assumed that because there were preferences it must be accessible but I am not finding that to be the case. I have accessed it through the info panel in Photoshop but I don't want to have to open every image just to add this stuff, why can't I access it through Bridge?
    As a note, I have also downloaded the panel update from IPTC for earlier versions, but I don't have access to those versions at work, just CS 5, so that won't work as a workaround. The site says CS 5 is ready to go out of the box.
    Can I access the extended metadata panel in Lightroom? Am I just missing something? Please help.
    Thanks.
    Miles

    Miles:
    As Rich Wagner pointed out, the IPTC Extended is not accessible via the Metadata panel within Adobe Bridge for CS5. I would hope that this is only a temporary situation, but have no inside knowledge as to when this might occur.
    Use of the Metadata Templates is one way to add "batch" metadata that is only available in the IPTC Extended metadata schema.
    Another option you might want to check is the IPTC-PLUS toolkit.
    http://www.iptc.org/goto/?iptcplustoolkitadobecs
    This is a java driven separate dialogue that can be applied to one or more images from within Bridge and includes all of the fields within the IPTC Core, IPTC Extension and PLUS metadata schemas. You can download the IPTC-PLUS toolkit from the link above. A users guide with full instructions on how to use the various fields as well as how to install are included in the download package.
    BTW, John Nack blogged about this option back in July. http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2010/07/iptc-plus-toolkit-extends-bridge-guides-photographers .html
    Hope that helps.

  • Custom Info Panel as Bridge MetaData Panel

    Hello,
    I have built a Custom XMP InfoPanel that shows up in CS6 Bridge just fine! But for ease of data entry we want it to show up in the Bridge MetaData panel. How is this done with the latest best practices?
    I have looked everywhere found a number of ways, but ALL are out dated! The XMP FileInfo SDK doesnt cover this.
    Thank you
    Dean Krueger

    Hi Science_DC,
        You are missing the zstring in your label or description and the same issue is with properties too. For testing i changed only two properties but you need to do the smae for others too.  I tested after using the ZString and it's working fine in Bridge too. Please find the original and modfied code (only for two properties)
    1. Your original properties.xml is
    <xmp_schema prefix="custom" namespace="http://my.custom.namespace/" label="<Your label>" description="<Your Panel Description>">
            <!-- simple properties -->
            <xmp_property name="Text" category="external" label="<Property Name>" type="text"/>
            <xmp_property name="Text2" category="external" label="<Property Name>" type="text"/>
    </xmp_schema>
    Insert the ZString like below (inserted text are in bold)
    <xmp_schema prefix="custom" namespace="http://my.custom.namespace/" label="$$$/Custom/Panel/Label=<Your label>" description="$$$/Custom/Panel/Description=<Your Panel Description>">
            <!-- simple properties -->
            <xmp_property name="Text" category="external" label="$$$/Custom/Panel/Property1 Name=<Property1 Name>" type="text"/>
            <xmp_property name="Text2" category="external" label="$$$/Custom/Panel/Property2 Name=<Property2 Name>" type="text"/>
    </xmp_schema>
    2. Put that propery file in Custom File Info Panels/4.0/panels (at the same place where DCIM.xml and mobile.xml is)
    Following is the screen shot which I got after ZString insertion (CS6 Bridge)
    If it doesn't work, could we do remote desktop?

  • After importing images from my card using LR 5.4, the GPS data does not show in the metadata panel. However, when I look at the imported images using Bridge, the GPS data is visible. Anybody know why LR is not seeing the GPS data? Camera is Canon 6D.

    After importing images from my card using LR 5.4, the GPS data does not show in the metadata panel. However, when I look at the imported images using Bridge, the GPS data is visible. Anybody know why LR is not seeing the GPS data? Camera is Canon 6D.

    Ok, the issue seem to be solved. The problem was this:
    The many hundred files (raw and xmp per image) have been downloaded by ftp in no specific order. Means - a couple of files in the download queue - both raw and xmps. Most of the time, the small xmp files have been finished loading first and hence the "last change date" of these xmp files was OLDER than the "last change date" of the raw file - Lightroom then seem to ignore the existence of the xmp file and does not read it during import.(a minute is enough to run into the problem)
    By simply using the ftp client in a way that all large raw files get downloaded first followed by the xmp files, we achieved that all "last changed dates" of the xmp files are NEWER than the related raw files. (at least not older)
    And then LR is reading them and all metadata information has been set / read correctly.
    So this is solved.

  • Creating custom Metadata panels in Bridge CS3

    I want to create a custom panel that allows me to enter 14+ pieces of information about an image that are not contained within the existing metadata panels.
    I can create a custonm panel in photoshop that is seen under 'File info' but I cannot see this information against a file in the metadata in Bridge.
    In the Bridge metadata panels you have individual panels such as GPS, IPTC Core, History, etc. Can I create my own custom panel to add to this list?
    If so how is it done? Where are the custom panel files stored?
    Many thanks

    Hi Bob,
    It seems that almost every day there is a new secret to explore on this forum... :-)
    According to the description in the link you had only a small typo (XML instead of XMP)
    here is a copy of the file locations text from the PDF:
    Mac OS X
    {Root Volume}/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP

  • Why does Bridge Metadata Panel look like this...?

    I just updated to Photoshop CS6 from CS5.1 and trying to iron out a few issues. One is this...
    In Bridge CS 6 my Metadata Panel items are truncated for some reason. There is plenty of room in the panel width, so...? I have even pulled the width out further than shown below. There are no problems with the other panels.
    Below are pics of the same panel in my install of CS 6 and then the same panel in my installation of CS 5.1.  Thanks.
         CS 6                                                                                                CS 5.1

    You've made the headings column too narrow.
    Hover your cursor over the space between the 'e' in Fil...e and _IGP1220.DNG.  It will change to a resizing indicator, indicating there's a hidden division there.  Drag it to the right to make enough room for the headings.
    Here's what I see, by the way, when I reduce the UI color to the blackest I can get it in Bridge CS6...

  • Metadata Panel in Bridge - Greyed Out - what did I do?

    I am using CS2 and the metadata panel (view - Metadata panel) is greyed out. What can I do to make it active?
    Thanks very much.
    Joanne

    Does it gray out for files in other folders, have you tried to create a new window?
    Check if your files are not write protected or locked and try to reset the preferences. In Bridge 2 that means holding down the shift + option + command key while restarting bridge and check the rest options you will.
    Don't know if that is the same for Bridge 1 but you can try.

  • IPTC Extension fields do not appear in the Metadata panel (Bridge CS5)

    I can see and edit them from the file info (cmd-I) but I cannot get them to show up in Metadata panel. They are listed as a set and individually in the Metadata preferences but no amount of enabling/disabling with or without restarting Bridge will coax them to appear. This is a little disappointing as they are all available in the Lightroom 3 metadata panel.
    Is this a known problem/feature/bug????
    tks, louie

    I heard on another forum that it is just a mater of time before this is fixed.
    Times seems to fix everything. However the big question is: will you still
    be around when the result is there...

  • Missing Metadata panel in Lightroom 3.3

    I just upgraded to v3.3 but seem to have lost the Metadata panel.  It simply isn't there anymore (on the right in the Library module).  Does anybody else have this problem?  Can I just install 3.2 on top of 3.3 to get it back?

    Have you tried right-clicking or control clicking if on a Mac on one of the elements that is there (in the right hand panel)?
    This should bring up a list of all the available elements for this panel.  Select the Metadata option to get the panel back.

  • What happened to exposure-related EXIF values in the Metadata panel?

    In Bridge CS5, the EXIF section of the Metadata panel would have an "Exposure" entry with info like "1/50 s at f/2.8".  This appears to be missing in Bridge CS6.  The option is there and checked in Preferences, but it never shows up in the panel itself.  I've looked at raw files from the Nikon D700, Nikon D800, Canon 5D and Canon 7D... no exposure information shows up.
    I know Bridge/ACR can read the info because it appears in the Metadata Placard, but that is not useful to me.  I often need to select a range of images and quickly see if they all have the same exposure.  In Bridge CS5, the exposure settings are displayed if they are all the same, otherwise "(multiple values)" is shown.   The placard, on the other hand, simply goes blank once multiple images are selected, even though they all share identical exposure settings.
    Bug, or "feature"?  Bridge CS6 5.0.0.399 64-bit, ACR 7.1.

    Anyhow, I was just trying to explain why I use the Exposure entry in the EXIF panel.  Regardless of why I need it, it still appears to be a bug, since I can enable/disable it in Bridge preferences, yet it appears to have no effect in the panel itself.
    Brian,
    Sorry, I did get a little carried away and sometimes tend to forget that everyone has it own needs and workflow
    Regarding the other posts I can only confirm that as soon as I alter my DNG files the exposure line (that in default settings is not selected in Bridge Preferences BTW) disappears (I have set to not show empty fields) and after clearing settings the line fills back again with the info for exposure.
    Did not check other lines but maybe there are even more.
    This one seems to have slipped through during the 64 bit transition and you should file it as a bug indeed because CS5 has correct behavior for this.
    You might best do so your self (your discovery) on the Photoshop.com page
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/
    and inhere select 'a problem' and describe this behavior.
    About your workflow, I tried Peters script several years ago but could not get it to work to suit my workflow. I also have no need (nor wish) for such a large production number but having get used to a workflow and not being able to is quite frustrating.
    However I have changed my workflow multiple times due to changed options and often it appeared for the better
    I only use ACR mainly for color temperature and exposure to bring back highlights. Often with selecting multiple files  in Bridge and with right mouse click copy paste ACR data to have a good start but I do need to fine tune a bit afterwards in ACR. Maybe I give the script another go.
    My process is based on the excellent ideas from Guy Gowan, who has a remarkable fast and amazing workflow in PS itself using adjustment layers based on channel masks. And after running the process also easy to fine tune with percentages using button mode in action panel.
    As said, everyone has his own workflow

  • Metadata not showing in Bridge

    Until last week I was happily using Bridge with my picture captions and credits showing in the metadata window.
    Now all of a sudden they've gone. The metadata panel only shows the content of the Title field.
    The metadata is still there when I open 'file info' in PS but Bridge has decided it doesn't want to show it any more.
    I've rebooted, quit and re-launched etc to no avail.
    Any ideas?

    Doing so without pressing the option key while restarting Bridge and choosing reset preferences is unlikely to solve problems, try again with this method and choose reset preferences.
    See if they came back and then set preferences again to your wishes. There is a dedicated metadata preference tab where you can divine which fields should be shown or not in the metadata panel (mind you, this only affects the visibility of the fields, they are still there in the file info)

  • Help with XMP Panels in Adobe BRidge

    Hi All
    I'm trying to create a XMP Panel for Adobe Bridge, and I'm having a weird problem I'm hoping someone can answer.
    The Panel is created, and works, I can change a metadata field and the metadta field gets saved correctly.
    However, I need to change one of the metadata fields in code, and although it's changing thee text within the field, when I close the panel it doesn't update the metadata.
    Here's a code sippet:
    First the form Items:
    <fi:XMPFormItem
                                  id="ftitle"
                                  label="$$$/xmp/sdk/custompanels/Dave3/Title=Document Title:"
                                  labelTooltip="$$$/xmp/sdk/custompanels/Dave3/TitleToolTip=The title of the document, or the name given to the resource. Typically, it will be a name by which the resource is formally known.">
      <fi:XMPTextInput id="docTitle"
                                                                 xmpPath="dc:title"
                                                                 xmpType="Localized"
                                                                 change="changeMe(event)"/>
      </fi:XMPFormItem>
      <mx:FormItem label="Change Title">
                        <mx:Button label="Digital"
                                               click="updateTitle(url.text)"
                                               />
      </mx:FormItem>
    And here's the function that changes the text:
                                  private function updateTitle(url: String):void
                                            var st: String = "Hello Folks";
                                            docTitle.text = st;
                                            docTitle.enabled = true;
    As expected, the text in the docTitle field changes, but when I close the FIleInfo panel the changed text is not written to the file.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    David

    Hi Gary:
    Thanks for the reply. I tried your suggestion, but alas, things got wacky.
    When selected, the first panel text overflowed on top of the second accordian tab.
    When I select the second panel, the first stays open, as well as the 2nd.
    And the text for the next 4 accordian tabs gets out of wack -- they line up on the right hand of the accordian field, with multiple line breaks, rather than in a single line below each tab.
    I noticed that overflow:hidden; shows up in two places in the Accordian css file. Tried deleting one, deleting both. but still "no go".
    I feel I need to apologize to the forum. I wish I had a better handle on code. But I am actively trying to learn. Reading my book (and doing the exercises) for about an hour a day. And asking lots of questions. I hope it's OK to post these kinds of questions here, even though I'm not very advanced.
    I really do appreciate your patience! Jami

  • How to install custom XMP Get Info Panels in Adobe Bridge CC

    Adobe changed their way they store the custom XMP Get Info Panels in Adobe Bridge CC. Check out this blog to see how you can install the XMP Get Info Panels that you used in Adobe Bridge CS6 in Adobe Bridge CC:
    http://www.databasepublish.com/blog/installing-custom-metadata-panels-and-get-info-panels- adobe-bridge-cc

    Check your Bridge preferences.  It seems that you have the "Don't process images larger than…" option set to a lower amount than some of your files.
    So, don't blame it on Bridge, but on the user who neglects that setting.

  • Adding Metadata deletes keywords in Bridge 2.1.1.9

    I had keyworded a large number of images. I then noticed that I had not applied my usual Metadata info (IPTC Core) (copyright, name, address, etc). I went to the Metadata panel, selected and clicked to Append my 2008 Metadata to the large number of selected and previously keyworded images.
    The Metadata was written to the image, and all the keywords were removed. I do not believe that this problem has occurred with previous versions. I thought that Append Metadata would do just that, i.e. add the metadata to the keywords in the IPTC location. I would think that this keyword removal would occur if I had selected Replace Metadata.
    What am I doing wrong, other than not adhering religiously to my workflow and inserting Metadata before the Keywords as I usually do.

    I found the following info in Bridge Help:
    Apply metadata templates to files in Bridge
    Select one or more files.
    Choose either of the following commands from the Metadata panel menu or the Tools menu:
    Append Metadata, followed by the name of the template. This command applies the template metadata only where no metadata value or property currently exists in the file. (Append isnt available if youve selected multiple files.)
    Replace Metadata, followed by the name of the template. This command completely replaces any existing metadata in the file with the metadata in the template.
    Note, Append Metadata is available regardless of number of images selected, and deletes Keywords regardless of number of images selected.
