Microphone not working - Satellite C655-S5132 - Windows 7

I have a microphone plugged into my Satellite C655-S5132 which is running Windows 7.  I can't get it to record.
From Start I typed 'microphone' and selected 'Manage audio devices'.  Clicked the Recording tab.  Two microphones showed up which confuses me.  I didn't think there was an internal microphone.  I unplugged my microphone and one of the microphones on the tab became 'Not plugged in', so I plugged it in again and it became 'Default Device'.  From start I typed 'sound' and selected 'Sound Recorder'.  I clicked 'Start Recording' and spoke into the microphone.  I stopped the recording and saved into a .wma file.  When I play that file there is no sound.  The speakers are at 100%

    ValentinT, welcome to the forum.
There are no drivers available for Windows 8.  I suggest checking in the Control Panel/Sound/Recording to assure that your microphone is selected.  It seems that the Sound is one area that gets changed when updating to Win 8.1.  At least, this is what happened to me.

  • HP PAVILION DV6707us MICROPHONE NOT WORKING AFTER UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 7

When I updaded my laptop to Windows 7 Ultimate my internal mic disappeared. I installed the sound driver I found n website but still the mic does not appear. Please help me.

Hello mrsray89.  I understand you're unable to get your internal microphone to work.
Did the microphone work as expected when you had Windows Vista installed?
Have you tried installing the HP Software Framework and HP Support Assistant?  You can then run the HP Support Assistant application and it will scan your system and install any missing drivers.
Also, I believe the internal microphone is part of the webcam's hardware.  So, knowing whether the webcam is working will be helpful information. Try the following.
Click Start, type "Device Manager," and press Enter.
Expand the "Digital Imaging Devices" section.
    List what you see.
Have a great day!  I'll be watching for your reply.

  • Microphone not working after upgrading to windows 7 on Compaq Mini 730EA.

My Compaq Mini 730EA came with Wins XP and I have just upgraded to Wins 7 Ultimate 32 bit. My Mic is not working with Windows 7, but it can play sound. When I roll back to Windows XP the mic works, but does not with Wins 7.
Where can I get the appropriate driver for the mic, please. Not driver? Then What should I do?
    Thanks much in anticipation.

Since there isn't a driver to download the only thing you can possible do is delete the windows driver that the notebooks installs for the feature.
This is what it will look like.
Go under Human Interface Devices and delete every USB INPUT DEVICE.
Then restart the notebook and it should install the drivers back.

  • Internal microphone not working on my hp windows 8

Recently my internal microphone has stopped working when i use an external microphone i have no problem but since my computer is newer i have no idea how to resolve the issue im using Windows 8 on my Hp pavillion g7 notebook

Hello, I have an internal Microphone issue. I already sent it in to get it fixed and the issue is happening yet again. It just doesn't work. It used one..but there is no reason why it shouldn't I just got the PC less than 5 months ago.  Its  Windows8 HP Envy dv6 Notebook PC.  I ran a cleaner and tells me some files may be missing or something along those lines. I'm still learning the terms and understanding. I spoke to an HP online assistant. She was a bit rude after quite some time of trying to help me understand what it was I was doing. I hope I can get some help with it.

  • Microphone not working Windows 10

I have an Asus GL551 series laptop and I just upgraded to Windows 10. I have all updated drivers and I use Realtek HD Audio Manager. My microphone works except when on Skype, which before upgrading I had no issues. The microphone is working but the gain is very low, but my mic works fine on Google Hangouts, and other applications. I was able to fix it by going into control panel-communications-then set communication activity to "do nothing" when it was previously set to "reduce the volume of other sounds by 80%." It worked for a minute, but then the person on the other end couldn't hear me anymore. The settings were still the same from when I changed them. I've tried configuring my microphone, changing the boost, not having Skype automatically adjust microphone settings, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, and Skype. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • How to improve the screen and audio quality on my Satellite c655-s5132

I recently bought a used Satellite C655-S5132 laptop.  Although this machine is designed to run on Windows 7, it came equipped with Windows XP.  The machine runs OK except for the screen which shows a distorted image and the sound which is tinny and low volume.
I suspect this is due to a software shortcoming rather than a defect in any of the hardware.  The image distortion may be due to the fact that this laptop comes with a wide screen with an aspect ratio of 6:9, whereas the Windows XP operating system that is currently installed on this laptop is set at an aspect ratio of 4:3 and doesn't allow me to switch to the other aspect ratio.
As a result, the image fills the entire screen but appears to be stretched horizontally.  As for the audio, I checked the volume settings and they are all set at their upper limit.
    I have done the following:
    1.  I did a system check which shows that there are 2 drivers that need to be updated: video controller and video controller (VGA compatible).  But when I prompt the machine to install updated drivers it gives me a failure code 28 "device not installed properly".
    2. I ran 2 driver software programs: one shows that for both video controllers "the manufacturer is unknown" and "drivers are not installed", and the second shows that the driver is installed but needs to be updated.
    3. Searched the web for the right drivers and found that for this machine running on Windows XP (32 bit), Intel produces a graphic driver, GMA 4500.
    4. I tried to download this driver from the Intel website but the installation process failed. Perhaps it failed because Toshiba has specified a custom version of this graphic driver that can only be downloaded from its own website.
    5. I searched the Toshiba website but was unable to identify the drivers for sound and image for this machine.
Could anyone help me find the right drivers on the Toshiba website that would allow me to: (i) change the setting for the aspect ratio and in doing so get rid of the image distortion, as well as improve the overal picture quality, and (ii) increase the audio volume and improve the overall sound quality?
    Thank you.

My advice is to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly preinstalled. Windows is preactivated.
You can obtain recovery discs from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here .
For instructions, see the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 71 of the User's Guide.

  • Internal Microphone not working for L505D-S5983 (PLEASE HELP!)

    Hi,
I can't seem to get my internal microphone to work. I have enabled it under Sound->Manage Audio Devices
->Recording tab. However the green vertical bar does not detect any voice. After setting the Microphone boost to +40dB, it detected some noise (since it has some green light) but I realized it wasn't detecting my voice. Since this did not work, I re-set the Microphone boost to only +10dB.  I only have one internal microphone and no external microphone.
I have seen many postings on internal microphones not working on Toshiba laptops but couldn't find a solution to mine. Can someone please help? I think it's about time that Toshiba fix this issue after the countless complaints.
    FM.

No mentions of reinstalling the sound driver. That sometimes turns on the microphone.

  • Internal Webcam and Microphone not working after Screen Fix

I own a HP Envy Spectre XT Ultrabook, and last week I tried to use the webcam and the microphone for the first time in a few months.
However I was shocked to find that Skype kept saying that the webcam was not detected. The microphone also could not register any sound.
Device Manager did not show any imaging devices or the webcamera, even after setting it to view non-present devices.
A check using msinfo32 did not review the webcamera either, and there were no problem devices.
Control Panel >> Sound showed that the Internal Microphone using IDT High Definition Audio Codec was enabled and working, however it could not detect any sound. All drivers are checked to be up-to-date.
I suspect this has something to do with the screen repair last month which a HP on-site technician came down to replace my screen, although I cannot be 100% sure. Although the screen is now working, the technician did not do a good job reassembling the screen - the bottom left corner of the screen cover has not be able to attach properly to the screen.
I have gone through my BIOS setup to make sure that there is no webcam disabled.
I have tried rolling-back and reinstalling the drivers for the microphone but it did not work.
I have tried uninstalling CyberLink YouCam (laptop preinstalled webcam software).
Please help, these two components are very important to me as I am going overseas soon. The laptop is still under warranty.

    Hey ajun,
Thank you very much for the information!
For troubleshooting your Webcam, I would suggest taking a look at the document Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 7). I would suggest the two options Video does not appear in your webcam software (such as YouCam, Skype, Messenger, ect.), and Webcam is not listed in Device Manager.
For your internal microphone not working either, please take a look at the document Resolving Microphone and Line-in Problems (Windows 7). From this document, I would suggest following the top two symptoms.
Please let me know the outcome of these troubleshooting steps.
Good luck, and have a great day!

  • USB webcam microphone not working with Starcraft 2 voice chat

=USB webcam microphone not working with Starcraft 2 voice chat?Windows 7, X-fi Fatalty Pro
I have a webcam with ?a built in microphone (Ps3 eye). ?It is connected by USB. ?The drivers are the CL-Eye drivers; a third party driver set since Sony does not directly support the eye for PC.
in the windows audio device management, the microphone appears as normal and is set as the default device. ?I can use the windows sound recorder to record me speaking just fine. ?However if I use any other applications it doesn't seem to work at all. ?I can select the device as the default recording device in Starcraft 2 as well as Teamspeak 3 but no sound is detected. ?The USB microphone does not show up as a selectable device in recording options in my Creative Control Panel. ?Disabling the default creative microphone does nothing.
I think the problem is in that windows can directly detect the microphone and so software that uses the windows audio device manager works fine, but anything that talks directly with my sound card software does not properly detect the microphone. ?Basically, I can select the device as a default device but it does not work.
Any thoughts on this or am I SOL and have to find myself a shiny new headset?

I had the same problem. You need to check the device index of your USB mic.
In my case. I'm on a Mac OSX 10.6 system. I had four devices cataloged. With the last one being the USB mic.
    Then set like so in your AS code audioPub.microphoneManager.micIndex = 3;
Remember, that the indexing is 0 based.
The sound framework make the assumption that the index is 0.
    Hope that helps.

  • My Aspire 5750-6438 built in microphone not working.

My Aspire 5750-6438 built in microphone not working. My OS is windows 7 64-bit. I have updated all the driver. Built in microphone is not even recognized in the sound setting.

    welly267,
Go into the device manager and check to see if there is a yellow or red icon next to your built-in microphone. If there is a red one, it's probably disabled, see if you can enable it. If it is yellow, right click to uninstall it, then restart your notebook to see if it installs correct and starts working. Look through these steps if it does start showing up in the sound manager.
If it does not, you can try to remember when it worked last and try a system restore. If you cannot remember, you might have a hardware problem or can try to perform a recovery as a last resort to see if that solves it.
