Microsoft Outlook unable to open?

Hi Experts,
Unsure if I can post this question here.
When ever I try to open my Microsoft Outlook - I get the attached error. Other applications in Microsoft Office like Word, Powerpoint, Excel works with no shadow of doubt. Did any of you face this problem and later found a way to sort it out.
Thanks

Have a look here, might help:

Cannot Start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook Window. The set fo folders cannot be opened. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)
OK. This is a new outlook setup on a laptop. The mail account is on a MS Exchange Server 2010. The user can log on to their laptop no problem with their AD login and password. To setup the outlook profile we have checked the name OK. When we click finish
and try to start outlook we get the above error message. It is driving me pots as I have tried also of things. I have tried to connect without catching the files. The error message then says that the Exchange Server is down, yet we checked the name OK and
I can log on to the MS Exchange server and see the setup.
What else is it that I need to look at as I have tried everything. I will add that they one service I see not running is the Exchange RPC service. If I try to start it, it fails saying Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services
    or programs.
    What can I do?

The major cause of this problem is a corrupted Navigation Pane settings file – profilename.xml, where “profilename” is the name of your Outlook profile. A good sign that the
file is corrupted is when the size of the file is shown 0 KB. No one knows the precise reason why this takes place, but all versions of Outlook from 2003 to 2013 may get affected.
Other causes may be when you run Outlook in the compatibility mode, or if you are using a profile generated in an older Outlook version, or if the Outlook data file (.pst or .ost)
was removed or damaged as the result of faulty uninstallation or reinstallation of MS Outlook.
Follow the steps given below to resolve this problem
    1. Recover Navigation Pane configuration file
    2. Repair your Outlook PST file using Inbox Repair tool
    3. Create a new Outlook profil and import data from the old PST file
    4. Turn off Compatibility Mode
    5. Start Outlook in Safe Mode

    Hi,
Basically you have tried a lot but the issue still exists, now one more suggestion I can provide is to make sure Outlook is not configured to run in Compatibility Mode:
Take Windows 7 for example, in Start -> Type "Outlook" in the search box -> Right click on the "Outlook 2013" shortcut -> Click Properties -> Under Compatibility tab -> Make sure "Run this program in compatibility
    mode for" is clear.
This method has resolved the issue for some users in this thread below:

I hope the information is helpful.

  • Outlook 2010 : Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.

    Hi
Using Outlook 2010 with an Exchange 2003 back-end.
Already have an Outlook profile (created in Outlook 2003).
When launching Outlook 2010 I get:
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window"
I've read several posts with this error message and a common "workaround" / "solution" was to run:  “Outlook.exe /resetnavpane”
I tried that and it didnt resolve the issue.
The only way I found to resolve this was to create a new Outlook profile.
Launching with a new Outlook profile works fine.
    - Is this a "known issue" ?
    - Is there a way to diagnose / throubleshoot further without having to create a new profile?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Thank you for using Outlook IT Pro Discussions forum.
This problem can occur when file that maintains the Navigation Pane settings becomes corrupted. This file is called profilename.xml, where profilename is the name
of your Outlook profile. Normally, we can resolve this issue by starting Outlook with the command
    Outlook.exe /resetnavpane
    or
    creating a new Outlook profile.
Next time, you may also try to rename the profilename.xml from the folder first to see if the issue can be resolved:
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
    Windows Vista, Windows 7: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

  • App v Outlook unable to open .pdf in IE

    Greetings everyone!
So I have a user that is unable to open up any link to a Web site PDF from outlook.  She clicks on the link to the pdf, IE opens, and then she gets this error.
We also stream Adobe reader, which is what Outlook calls on in order to open the pdf.  I entered the Adobe reader bubble and went to the above path and launched the eula.exe.  I was able to accept it, but the issue still persists.
I went into the Outlook bubble to check and see if the same EULA was present and there was none.
We run App v version 4.6
There are a few users that experience this, but maybe 1% of the environment.  No other users can duplicate the issue.
We have tried clearing the cache.
Adobe Reader and Outlook 2010 are virtualized as well.
Any thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!
    NewGenPack

You have a PDF file that has been associated with a  virtual Adobe Reader. Is Outlook virtualized? If so, which version? You have three applications at play here. We need more information.

  • Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The file C:\Users\accountname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\emailaddress.ost cannot be opened.

I don't have Exchange or anything like that. I did delete the Windows 8 Mail tile, would that have done anything? I've tried deleting the .ost file and opening again, but it's still coming up. My email is also an old fairly irrelevant server (mweb.co.za).
I've looked on the Outlook 2013 pages here but nothing's working. I can't get outlook to open my gmail address either. Do I need to convert the .ost files or something?

    Hi,
First, we can try to open Outlook with /resetnavpane command to check if this problem is caused by corrupted Navigation Pane settings. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
    outlook.exe /resetnavpane and press Enter.
If the issue persists, we can try to create a new mail profile in Control Panel and set up your email account in the new profile to check the result. To create a new mail profile, please refer:

  • Microsoft outlook doesn't open after update--any suggestions?

Just performed a critical update for MS Office, and now Outlook will not open.  Have reinstalled a fresh version, so now have 2 sets of Office on the mac, and neither opens.  Any help?

I am having the same problem with Outlook 2003 on Windows XP PRO with all updates and patches installed. It seems the only solution is to disable the plugin and wait for a fix from apple.

  • Outlook 2007 not opening after Windows Vista Update 25-Aug-09 [Qosmio G50]

I thought that posting my experience just now might be helpful to others.
Yesterday (25-Aug-2009) my Outlook 2007 was working perfectly. I had downloaded & installed Outlook Connector 12.1 because I'd received an e-mail from Microsoft to say that the DAV protocol used for HTTP mail would be withdrawn on 1-Sep-09. I also noticed that MS had restored the POP3 service that they closed down a couple of years ago.
So I set up the POP3 account and started working with that. All OK.
Last night when I closed down, Windows Update came in and completed on reboot this morning. Outlook 2007 wouldn't start, coming up with the message: +Cannot Start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook Window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened.+.
Nothing I did in that environment would enable Outlook 2007 to load, I created a new profile and that did no good.
So I went back to the System Restore Point made at the time of installing the Outlook Connector and everything sprang to life.
I had also tried the restore point that undid the Windows Update, but that didn't cure the problem either.
So, I'll see what happens when I reboot next time in case it had nothing to do with Windows Update.
    Cheers

There are many tools at the Inet, but no one of them weren't interested me, when I seeking for the solution of my trouble. Only my friend by chance offered me an one long-standing application. It enjoyed me for seconds, I presented my friend a gift and to my mind it would help in such problem also - pst email recovery.

  • OutLook won't Open

My System Windows & Pro 64Bit Outlook 2010
I had a power failure while my computer was on and outlook was opened. When power came back the system ran Check disk Windows and all other programs except outlook seem to be running fine. Outlook will not start in safe mode, system restore from 2 different
dates also failed. I get he following error message from outlooks opening screen and loading profile crash.
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file C:\Users\Administrator.Arts-PC\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\artcobb_Hotmail.ost
How can I get this fixed?
    Thanks in advance
    Art

It seems that the data file(Ost) has not been closed properly while the power failure. System Restore would restore the configuration file to an ealier point but it doesn't work with data file.
Notice that you've got artcobb_hotmail.ost and I assum that you are using hotmail account, don't worry about it duo the data is stored in your mailbox online. We may first
run ScanPST.exe to check if we can fix the ost file at this time. If it doesn't work, we may delete the artcobb_Hotmail.ost and re-sync it when Outlook launchs again.
    In addition, we may totally
create a new email profile in your machine and re-setup your mail account in Outlook to solve these. Thanks.

  • Problem with loading the application.......Microsoft Outlook 2013

     Hello,
I tried to setup my account manually. I made a mistake with my email. I closed the application after some number of tries to log-on and failed.
    Now the application cannot even load any window again for me to input the correct email and other details........ This is how the pop-up that appears read reads;
""Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened.""
I am currently using the online account to assess my email as my outlook 2013 failed to work.
    Thank you!

    Hi
Why don't you remove the profile from the mail app in control panel and start again?

Many years ago synced iCal with Microsoft program. Since installing Lion whenever I try to create an event in iCal it flashes up message "Unable to open Microsoft sync services Power PC applications no longer supported." How do I get rid of message?

Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services.  (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.)  If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature.  Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm unable to open vCard exported from MS Outlook for Mac (2011) which adheres all requirements.

vCards exported from Outlook are not compatible with iCloud if that's what you're trying to import it to.  You'll have to do something like create a Gmail account, then export your Outlook contacts to Gmail (see http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/export-outlook-contacts-to-google -gmail-HA001148902.aspx), then export the contacts from Gmail as a vCard (see https://support.google.com/mail/answer/24911?hl=en) and import it to iCloud (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3605).
