Microsoft VM vs Sun VM

When i run an applet with the Microsoft VM it works perfect, but when i choose the Sun VM (in the Internet Explorer) the size of the font change (it's larger but getFont().toString() returns Dialog, plain, 12 for the two VM), and also when i scroll a list, it renders too slow in Sun VM.
This happen in a Pentium II 233Mhz 256MB RAM with Windows 98. I know the computer isnt the best but the Microsoft VM works perfect.

Maybe you should lookup more results from the database at once, let's say the first 20 rows, as this is usually an expensive process I/O. Then you can scroll up and down the list with ease as you won't be constantly looking up results everytime you scroll, then if you require more results you can submit another query for the next 20 rows.
Java is an excellent choice for developing a large system as it is highly portable, meaning you write the code once and it will run on any platform that has a JVM. It is also fast, as it has Hotspot and Just In Time compilation. This allows your Java code to get converted to native code on the fly, and so you get excellent performance.
I would suggest maybe a slightyy more powerful computer for running a large scale application.

We have an application that requires only Microsoft Java VM be running in our IE browsers, so we cannot run Sun Java VM at the same time. Is there a workaround that will allow users to view Discoverer output? I am still investigating utilizing Discoverer as we have an enterprise license, so my choice of client viewers is still undecided.

Because of Microsoft's strong commitment to the Java platform, we have had to discontinue support and certification for the Microsoft VM. The only two JVMs supported and tested for Discoverer Plus are JInitiator and the Sun JVM.

Microsoft VM vs Sun JRE

I am facing a big problem. My application is a web based application which runs on HTML javascript, Applet and servlets on windows platform.
A particular piece of code works well on Microsoft VM but does not on Sun JRE (1.5 and above).
Following error occurs while running on Sun JRE

I wounder if smbd could explain me. Is there any problems with communication between Microsoft VM and programs that were compiled with Sun JDK.
I develop a applet and compile it with Sun JDK. But I doesn't work on the Microsoft VM in my IE. Could it be really a problem? And how to avoid it?

What do I need to do in order my applet make workable?Two options:
1) Use Sun's VM.
2) Use only Java 1.1.4.

Switching from Microsoft JVM to sun JVM plugin. Problem w crystal reports

I am currently in the process of switching off of the microsoft jvm to the sun plugin. I am using the reportviewerbean to view the reports. This works fine in the microsoft JVM, but I am getting a server not found error in the java JVM plugin. Here is the codes that is currently used:

ESXi 4.0 with sun storagetek 2500 array server is getting crashed

I have configured ESXi 4.0 in an IBM server followed by creating virtual host in that server. The server was working fine until I connect the server with storage array.
My setup looks like this.
IBM Server installed with ESXi 4.0 (linux version) followed by virtual host creation. the virtual host is Windows 2008 - 64 bit. Once all this setup were made, I have installed a software called CAM module in this server. This module is to manage my Sun storagetek 2500 array family. Suddenly i see my ESXi server (licensed one) is getting crashed. Following is the error message displayed.

I got a work around from one of the forum for this similar problem as "increase the swap size may solve this". but i tried that also , but still the issue persists. Swap size is set as twice of the RAM (my ram is with 4 GB,2X dual core AMD processor and HDD capacity is 80GB)

Hangs and crashes when moving from M$ to Sun

I am currently moving a 50000 lines applet from Microsofts JVM to Sun's. However, on Windows 98 the applet hangs when using the Sun JVM 1.3.X. Of course I have used EventQueue.invokeLater and EventQueus.invokeAndWait to ensure that all updates are handled on the AWT event thread. Further, I have inserted in nearly every routine a test that checks that it is executed on the AWT thread. Thus I am close to certain that it is not due to AWT code being executed on other threads than the AWT event thread.
Further, when I execute the applet on Sun's JVMV1.4.X it crashes and takes down the browser (IE or Netscape 6.2) too. The crash dumps indicate that this happens in the AWT library, possibly during Event scheduling. However, the program counter of the Intel microprocessor is not valid and thus the JVM cannot make a stack dump.
What am I doing wrong?

I have never had a crash on 1.3. I have problems with the Sun JVM 1.3 hanging in Windows 98, but it works fine on Windows 2000. Our tooltips are created from the awt thread, and the tool tip thread calls EventQueue.invokeLater when it wants to remove the tool tip. Thus it the screen is always updated from the awt thread.

"Microsoft Office Document Image Writer" = java.io.FileNotFoundException

I have an application that prints documents. We have observed that file reading and writing fails after a user prints with the Microsoft virtual printer: "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer".
Any subsequent file operation generates exceptions: java.io.FileNotFoundException.

It's dated back to December 2005 without any resolution.

My questions are:
1- Is this bug related to printing or drawing?
2- Can this bug be fixed with client code, my application, or this needs to be fixed in the JVM?
3- Is this an Microsoft issue or Sun issue? Other application can print using this virtual driver.
To make matters worst, Eclipse can print using this driver and continue normal operation. Does Eclipse use a completely different code base?

Easy Keys and Fn+F8 (WLAN on/off) don't work

I have bought a new Toshiba Satellite A100-490 last week. I have tested all hot keys and function keys with the pre-installed Windows XP MCE. Everything worked.
But I needed a new customized installation of Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 on the notebook. So I installed the XP Pro from a original CD-ROM and all Toshiba drivers, except of some special Managers (Assist, Config Free, SD Memory Format, Wireless LAN Client Manager, ...).
From the Easy Keys (Browser, Media Player, Play/Pause, Stop, Backward, Forward) only the Browser and Media Player Easy Key work. Which driver is responsible for the other Easy Keys (Play/Pause, Stop, Backward, Forward)?
The next problem is, that the Fn+F8 (WLAN switch) hot key doesn't work. But when I disable the WLAN over the hardware switch, there comes a MessageBox that I have to enable the WLAN over the hardware switch first. Normally there has to come a On-Screen-Display. What is wrong?

I am having consistant problems w/ my mb pro freezing for 20-60 seconds while working in different programs and apps. i've upgraded my RAM to 8gigs and deleted over 60 gig of pics and videos to try to help, but nothing seems to work.

I've now been having this problem for months. It just freezes up and either shows me the dumb color wheel or doesn't show me anything sometimes and i just cant do anything for about 20-60 seconds. i can't exposae or anything. Also while working on a power point presentation it froze 4 different times for good and i had to do a hard restart just to get it working again. i lost my work and had to keep starting over. it was so annoying. it seems most of the time it does it, it is while i'm in Excel, Outlook, or Powerpoint. so perhaps it has something to do with my microsoft office. but i have the newest version and all the updates and everything. and i believe its happened when doing other tasks too. So i just can't figure it out.
A few Mac friends suggested i free up some space on my hard drive and upgrade my RAM. So i did. i put all my videos and photos on an external harddrive and deleted them all on my computer. i also upgraded to 8 gigs of RAM.
And honestly i can't even tell a difference after doing both of these.
HELP! PLEASE HELP! I'M ABOUT TO GO CRAZY. And having all the non Mac believers telling me it cause i have a Mac even drives me more nuts..

it froze a few times over the last hour and half while browsing the internet.
and also while working in excel it all of the sudden shut down excel and said. "Excel has encountered and problem and needs to shut down, you may lose the work you were on." or something like that. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME TOO. Excel, outlook and powerpoint frequently just shut down on me out of now where. I've bolded and underlined when this happened.

Cannot install JMF under Linux Mandrake 10

I simply cannot install JMF under the Mandrake 10 Official Linux distribution. I downloaded the jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin file and tried to execute it as root. It unzipped some files then showed me an error message about AWT and GTK+. I found a hack consisting of modifying the .bin file to have the PATH variable point to SUN JDK, the error does not show up, but the installation still does not work. In fact, the installation works, but the Diagnostics applet keeps telling me than class files are not present. My Mozilla 1.6 Java plugin is working and displaying the applet. My JMF lib directory does not contain sound.jar, such jmf.jar. I set the CLASSPATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH according to the readme.html file. I would like to know if it is a compatibility problem with Mandrake 10, the 2.6 kernel or if JMF just DO NO work under Linux. In the latter case, JMF is a violation to the Java portability philosophy and I would never use it on my own initiative, just if I were asked to.
After the files are unzipped, I have the following warning and error messages.

Even if I do not have a working video capture card (I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 128 but it is not working under 2.6 kernel), JMF should work because some people do not have a video capture card. I also tried with the cross-platform ZIP file, but this one does not contain sound.jar either and the Diagnostics applet keeps complaining about missing class files. I tried to search on the Web for solutions to this problem or for a way to change the CLASSPATH used by the Mozilla Java plug-in (if it uses a different CLASSPATH than the one from the environment variable), but nothing, nothing. Is there a distribution from which JMF would work better than Mandrake 10? Or can JMF work only under Microsoft Windows or Sun Solaris? I also tried Blackdown, but a README file directed me to the Sun's page, nothing to download here about JMF.

well, your not the only one.
I have it working in Debian, and JDS.(JMF is setup automatically in JDS).(2.6.6 kernel)
I looked at the installation structure of JDS, and was able to duplicate what they did for Debian.
Maybe it will work for Mandrake two??
ok, all you have to do is copy or create soft links from your Mozilla directory, just like you did with the java plugin, and link to all the *.so files in JMF-2.1.1e/lib directory.
Should work.
I also read that not haveing the native files only matters if you are doing Capture. not play.
to get your ATI All-in-Wonder 128 to work, make sure you install the correct driver, and have it working under linux, then try it in JMSTUDIO

How to disable java vm

there is a website need to run applet, but must disble sun java vm. when i disble java, i was told "enable java first". when i enable java i was told "disable sun java vm first". what should do. i am using windows xp

MS Internet Explorer has two options to start an applet:
- with Microsoft Java
- with SUN java.
If you disable sun java vm MS IE tries to start an applet with MS JVM. It looks like you have not installed MS JVM on your computer.
Another question: What stands for "disable sun java"? In MS IE you can enable/disable SUN Java Plug-In only. If you disable it in MS IE properties then MS IE looks for MS JVM to start the applet. This applet should be compiled with proper Java Compiler. For example, having compiled the applet with JMS you cannot run it with SUN Java Plug-In.

I am testing a web application which is completely Java applet base.
Envirnment used jdk1.1.8 and Jre1.4.
I have been trying to identify applet object used in our application.
problem i faced:
when i set java option in option seting for both Microsoft applet and sun system applet. where my system having jdk1.1.8 and jre1.4.
Recording on above envirnment I am able to record my application but i can not play that. On this case I marked Abbot script generated.
when uninstall jdk and jre.
I am able to record and play my application still some step. But I am not able to customize it.
this application also uses StarTree a hyporbolic tree API from
"Business Object" now bought by SAP (this api used inside applet
frame).
Is any one work on e-tester to automate in and out of an application which is built in java applet.
Can some one help me to figure out where I am doing wrong.
Before this I worked on e-tester year back to automate one of our application and still we are doing our regression on that.

When you say customize, are you referring to parameters? They is handled differently with applets. I believe there is documentation on this.

Backup/restore a system that has 2 OS installed

I have 2 OS –both are windows XP- installed on a machine on 2 different partitions
Using Rescue and Recovery, I created a backup inside OS number 1,
I tried to restore the backup, but unfortunately, Rescue and Recovery restored only one OS(and didn’t restore the second OS)
So my question is: how can I backup/restore a system that has 2 OS installed

p.s. to other guy that posted that IBM wrote MsDOS (aka DOS, the most widely spread version, which I'm assuming we're talking about), no they didn't, microsoft did, that's where Bill Gates got his money with.
IBM had it's own variant and was pushing the PC hardware market (the ancestors of our pc's were either IBM or IBM compatible).
