Microsoft Word doesn't respond too frequently

Everytime I try to compose something on Word it freezes within 30 minutes (I suddenly notice sluggishness and then I have to force quit Word).
solution?

Bummer! The only way I have ever been able to get rid of the dreaded twirling ball was to reboot....with the exception of one time only, when it actually was some super techie issue that was only resolved when they looked at it and did their magic.

Office 2008 and 2011 work with Yosemite. If you had Office 2004 installed, then it will not work. If you had Office 2008 I would upgrade to Office 2011. In any event you should try completely uninstalling Office and then reinstalling it.

I notice that you have cross posted in Answers forum and Oracle forum. Have you tried Mr. Peter's suggestion?
Then, I recommend we check the Word settings:
1. Go to: Options > Advanced > Cut, Copy and Paste
2. Make sure that Use smart cut and paste is ticked.
3. Click the Settings button next to this option
4. Make sure that Smart Style
Behavior is checked.
If the issue still exists, please upload a sample through One Drive, I want to test.

Macbook Pro, Microsoft Word doesn't get rid of old files? (pictures included)

I'm not quite sure how to explain it but my MacBook doesn't get rid of files from the Microsoft Word list. I've deleted all of those files but they still seem to appear in my list of files (this is on the Word thing)

In Word > File > Open Recent > Clear Recent

If you have Word/Office 2004, that won't run on Lion. You have three options:
1. Upgrade to Office 2008 or 2012
2. Download the free Office suite Libreoffice
3. Buy Apple's 'Pages' from the App store.
A fourth option would be to revert to Snow Leopard.

I agree with the restart but let me come at this a couple of ways.
document in use - did u have multiple copies open / was the document residing in another location/do you have                                rights to the document
name of docu    -   what is the actual name of the document --- change it to test.docx see if that allows it to open
how was the document created
at times people rename documents, from one format to another and then change the second part of the name
EG,
test.wpf   gets renamed to test.docx    and the application cant open it

this problem happened to me using the public beta, in the official release it did not appear any more.
However, I found it still remains in the following situation:
When using spaces with Safari fixed to some particular space. Then when closing all windows of Safari, changing to a different working space and activating Safari from spotlight (probably also when clicking on the Safari icon in the dock), a new Safari window is opened and one is changed back to the space associated to Safari. Now (when new windows start with top sites), the top sites window is opened, but the cursor is not in the address line as it should be. (I'm not sure about the following: but I think even clicking with the mouse into the address line does not activate a cursor, you have to press cmd-l to activate it)
Anyone has the same problem?

Microsoft word documents suddenly can't be saved any longer

On my MacBook Pro, suddenly Microsoft Word doesn't save documents any longer. It goes into "searching for printer" mode and freezes up entire laptop.Any suggestions?

Microsoft word stops responding when i open a document

This has been happening on and off for ages, from half a year to a year. I have been trying to open a document for 4 hours now, it opens it and then freezes, i then have to force quit it and start over again. Some times i have left it for a while others i quit it after it stops responding. It is getting ridiculous now, i have also searched for ages on the internet, some problems are unrelated some seem related but the fixes don't work, I need help to get word to stop doing this.
I thought maybe it was because it keeps opening all my previous documents that I had open, i unchecked the box so it doesn't reopen windows and it still freezes but on this document instead. I do not have a clue what to do and I urgently need access to these documents, the documents aren't damaged, i was working on them before, and had this problem with many other documents that also weren't damaged. What should I do? I do not have a clue and it's been a truly annoying problem for a long time now.

Hello, I did as you asked, I hope this isn't too many lines i put. I don't understand any of it and so I don't know what is needed, but this doesn't have over 50 lines so i thought it may be okay. I can't see my name in my log so it seems okay from that point of view. Thanks for your help, this problem has been driving me nuts, i don't know if i've done anything or this is just because of gradual ware and tear as my macbook is the last one they produced. But i wouldn't think its software would have suffered much ware and tear to become that outdated already.

HP Laserjet PRO MFP125nw doesn't print Microsoft Word documents from PC

Hello.
I've recently bought a brand new HP Laserjet PRO MFP125nw printer. The functions seemed really nice and the price was acceptable. I've brought it to my home, installed it following the manual, connected it to Wi-Fi etc. It generally works fairly well. PDF files are printed perfectly well, the scaning function works and it's generally a nice piece of technology.
The only problem is that it just doesn't want to pring Microsoft Word documents from my PC. It prints it perfectly when I try to print .docx from my smartphone using the app, but it doesn't respond when I try doing it from the PC.
My Office version is 2007 Enterprise. Do you have any idea what I should do?

I'll try plugging it into the wall and directly to the PC with a USB, we'll see if it works out.
About Word, i've already tried reinstalling Word, even installed a 2003 version to check if it works with that. Well it doesn't. And as i've written before, I tried turning some .docx files to .pdf using a converter, but it still doesn't print them.

I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:

So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
#2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk of your internal drive (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway) or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
#3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

Microsoft Word Freezing Repeatedly, Application Not Responding

Just wondering if anyone else was having issues with Microsoft Word from MS Office 2008, where you open the application, you type a few sentences, and the application freezes with the spinning circle of death that won't go away until you click the dock where it says "application not responding" and do a force-quit? You can leave the circle spinning for 10-20-30 minutes, and it never goes away.
Now for the weird part--this error only happens for me when I'm using a specific document on my computer. I can open Word, start a new document, type several paragraphs of text, and it works fine. But I've been working on an existing paper for about two months that all of a sudden started causing these freezes/crashes when editing it. It's about 30 pages roughly, no images, no big inserts that would take up a lot of memory (116 kb in size). And up until today, there were no problems. So why all of a sudden can't I edit anything on this paper without freezing the program?! I downloaded the Microsoft Office 2008 Service Pack 1 that was just released after this problem started, and ran all the recent Java and program updates through Software Update with computer restarts. I even copied the text from the Word document I was working on, pasted it into a new document, tried saving it as both .doc and .docx, and again the program still freezes when working with that text in a new file. This one baffles me. It's like the text within a document is somehow freezing the application. One thing I did notice is that the freezes seem to happen when I'm scrolling using a mouse wheel. Not always, but quite a bit. I suppose this is some memory issue related to several pages of text that the program can't render or process when you add new lines of text or scroll, but again, I can't figure why this paper I've been working on for months all of a sudden decided to start freezing Word today. Can you really only have 30 double-spaced pages of text in Word before it crashes?
Looks like I've found my reason to switch to Open Office, since I'm 3-4 days out from a deadline. Any other solution strategies would be welcome. Thanks.

Same problem here - Microsoft Word 2008 (update 12.1.7) will open fine, and then start the spinning pizza of death. Only way out is to force-quit the app. I've tried:
1) deleting plist and font cache files
2) uninstalling MS Office 2008, reinstalling and then re-applying updates 12.1.0 and 12.1.7
3) confirming that Apple's Font Card.app can verify all fonts
No luck. Currently I can't open any MS word doc without the spinning pizza of death.
If you are lucky enough that these symptoms only happen with a specific Word .doc file, I would see if the PC-originator could re-save the file as .RTF and resend. If you can then open it OK, you could revert back to .doc (or .docx) format. RTF format is Microsoft's interchange format. If there are anomalies in the .doc file, saving as .RTF can sometimes clean them up. Once done, you can revert back to native MS Word format.
