Microsoft Word: Mac

Spell checker in word does not work. In the compatibility report in says that "Word cannot identify the text language". I have set my default language to English (UK).
Why is this not working?

Under Tools->Languages you have English (UK) selected? Is the box checked below that says "Do not check spelling and grammar"?
I must admit to knowing just enough about Office to be dangerous

  • OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and Microsoft Word: Mac 2008

I installed OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and am currently having troubles with Microsoft Word: Mac 2008.  I cannot type into documents that I open.  Strangely enough, I can copy into documents, but unfortunately, I can do nothing to edit open documents since I still cannot type.  I view my documents in Print Layout format.  Is there something I can do to get my Word software working again?

Try un-installing Office and then re-installing.

  • HT1338 Whenever I try to install an update for Microsoft Word:Mac (2011),

    Problem
Whenever I try to update ANY version of Microsoft Office:Mac (I have 4.2.3) I get the followng message:
Office 2011 14.2.3 Update (for Microsoft Office: Mac) can’t be installed on this disk. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume.

Since this question is about a Microsoft product, you might have more luck getting suggestions if you ask in Microsoft's own forums.

  • Problem opening Microsoft Word:mac

I have Mac OSX 10.6.8 and after stupidly trashing my Word application, I reinstalled Office: Mac 2011 but the program still doesn't work.( I did check for updates but didn't get any which seems strange.) The error msg is the usual Microsoft "encountered a problem and must close." . Also, Excel and PowerPoint are working just fine. Any ideas? Thanks

i would post this question here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac?auth=1

  • Microsoft Word:mac - Batch Import Photos from file

    Hi,
I have recently upgraded to montain lion and the latest update to the office:mac 2011. I have noticed that my automator workflow is now no longer working. I created a workflow that allowed the batch importing of photos into a document. The workflow works if you run it from within automator but does not work from within word.
I have also noticed that the sample workflows now no longer work. Very strange. I did some searching on the internet and other people have posted these issues on forums but no one suggested a solution.
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks
    Adrian

You're very close to what needs to be done. Make sure that your new presentation is in a view that shows slide thumbnails (either Navigator or Light Table view). Then, when you select the photos, drag to the thumbnail area. This action will create a separate slide for each photo that was dragged and dropped in the thumbnail area.

  • Macs version of Microsoft word?

what is macs version of microsoft word?

This is what I had to do in order to read a Word .doc created in VISTA with a .docx label.
I opened the .docx file with Stuffit Expander. I then went to the Word folder and opened the resulting document.xml file with Dreamweaver, copied the code, created a new html page, pasted the code and was able to read the text in the resulting "Design" view.
Hopefully there will be an update for Microsoft Word:mac to open this in an easier way.

I installed snow leopard and since then every time i open a word document on my Microsoft word (mac 2008), it crashes and does not open. i can open word and start typing a new doc, save it and then open that one and it works. but if i try to open a document that i created before snow leopard (regular leopard), it crashes right away. please help because i am a college student and i need to access my docs!!!

    Hi all--this worked for me:
    1. Uninstall Office using the Remove Office program.
    2. Remove (trash) the microsoft folder from the fonts folder. Then delete the word plist from your user library preferences folder.
    3. Run disk utility to repair permissions and restart.
    4. Run Snow Leopard cache cleaner and do a deep clean on the cache of your system.
    5. Run Easy Find to find "fontcachetool" (it's an invisiable file, so make sure you enable easyfind to locate invisible files. Trash the fontcachetool file once it's located. Note: I actually had two of these files, and I trashed them both.
    6. Restart.
    7. Run disk utility to repair permissions again, and restart.
    8. Install Office 2008.
    9. Do NOT open any Office programs, and restart.
    10. Install SP 1 (note: I installed this from a disk image. My previous attempts to use the automatic check for updates "feature" in Office to download and install the program did not work--believe me, I uninstalled and reinstalled Office three times before performing the tasks I am listing here. You can download the disk images of the SP here:

    11. Restart
    12. Install 12.2.0. Restart.
    13. Install 12.2.1. Restart
    14. Repair permissions.
    15. Restart.
So far so good. I hope this helps.

  • I have had a new mac pro. and i installed office mac 2011. however, whenever i try to start word, excel or powerpoint, it always appears 'what's new in Word: Mac 2011. what should i do?

i am using the Microsoft Word:Mac 2011. however, whenever i open the folder, it appeared "what's new in Microsoft Word: Mac 2011 and stay there forever. i can not do anything else. what should I do to create a new document or open an old ones?
    thank you

Do you not have a Continue button at the lower right of that screen? Click it and the box will flip over. Click Cancel and shut down Word. Launch it again to get the same screen of document choices. You now have an check box at the bottom for "Don't show this when opening Word". Check the box if you prefer not to see this project manager, then click Cancel. The document manager will go away and you'll be presented with a blank document. This is way it will now always start.

  • Stop Microsoft Word from re-opening files

As the subjects says, I need to stop Microsoft Word, Mac office Package, from reopening files. each time it opens, it opens the files from the last 2 weeks and it's driving me crazy.
I tried to unselect the option "Close Windows When quitting an app" from General, System Preference.
    Thanks in advance.

Just to reiterate. Choose Shut Down or Restart from the Apple menu and make sure this check box is off.
Open the System Preferences. Under the General icon, make sure the check box for "Close windows when quitting an application" is on.

  • Issues with Microsoft Word for mac closing when I try to open old or newly downloaded documents

When I download a document from my professor, or try to open an older document, my word automatically quits. If it's already closed and I try to open a document, it will show the dot at the bottom of the icon that it's loading to open but it quickly disappears and quits itself. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or know what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

You need to install Office on the computer from the installer DVD or disc image you purchased.

  • HT1338 I have Microsoft for Mac 2011 on my OSX Lion. I want to take advantage of Word Art and be able to flip text to print on fabric. Can't seem to find how to do this... Help, please!

I need to make t shirts for a family reunion.  I cannot reverse the text (so the letter will print on a T shirt correctly). I have tried everything including u-tube videos. I could swear I have seen graphics (such as various banners on Word Art as shown on u tube videos) on one of my toolbars but cannot locate them now (would like to use them also).
Is anyone familiar with Microsoft for Mac 2011?  I also have an HP Photosmart printer that should be able to reverse print but that too is defeating me but I don't give up...
    Thanks for any suggestions!

For any object (photo, WordArt, etc.), right click on the object and choose Format Shape. Choose 3-D Rotation in the left column. In the X field, type 180 and press tab. Click OK to accept the change. Here, I reversed some WordArt text.

  • Can you open with Pages documents that were created in a 2004 version of Microsoft word for Mac?

Can you open in Pages documents that were created in a 2004 version of Microsoft Word for Mac?

Pages '09 will open .doc files from Word 2004. The Mac OS is not what is in question. Pages '09 opens Word 2004 documents and if the same version of Pages will run in Lion and in Mountain Lion ..... Thats all that matters.
I trust you were using MS Office 2004 and would now like to buy Pages?
