MIDI after XP upgr

I've been reading through the forum for the past hour and it seems to be a common problem - after upgrading to XP, people start having problems with their soundcard...
Well fortunately my soundcard still works, but something's not quite the same - MIDI playback.
When I was running Win98, midi files sounded a certain way (I guess due to whatever wavetable my computer was using), but after installing XP, midi songs just don't sound the same. In fact, they sound like crap compared to what I was used to. I'm just wondering if there's a way to get MIDI sounding the way it used to.
I'm not *that* knowledgeable about computers so maybe I've just over looked something...but here's what I've tried so far:
- Updating the driver (my card is a "Creative Audio PCI {ES37,ES373 (WDM)}" <- whatever that means?!), but XP says there are no updates available. (current driver is 5.2.3633.0)
- Changing the default midi device. The current default is "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth" and when I try changing to "Creative Sound Blaster MPU-40" I cannot hear anything. Futhermore I cannot access the "Volume..." and "About..." options with the latter selected.
Is there anything I can do or am I just stuck with these crappy sounds? Do I need to get a new soundcard or something?
I hope someone can help me! Thanks~

You need a new soundcard which allows you to install your own midi soundfont banks. Any reatil Soundblaster or Audigy card will permit this.

When I'm listening some mp3's, wma's, or anything with that kind of extension, and after I double-click on a midi to play it, my boxes produca a loud sound, like a crash, not long (about /4 of a second), but it's extremely unpleasant.
It seems that my soundcard first has to change something before it can play midi after been playing mp3/wma/... I got SB Li've 5..

  • [SOLVED] config in /etc/systemd (ssh, getty) resets after system upgr.

I've made changes in /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/[email protected] (don't clear console at boot as per https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … r_boot.3F) and /etc/systemd/system/sockets.target.wants/sshd.socket (changed ssh port) but they keep getting reset after a system upgrade (not sure by what package, pacman -Qo file says that no package owns them)
I'm starting to wonder if above places are the correct place and even way to do mentioned changes.
    What I want to achieve;
    1) simple way to not clear console after boot
    2) change what port ssh (systemd ssh socket) listens at
    3) make them changes permanent and durable even after a system upgrade
    My setup is pure systemd.

  • 0 Midi after installing Driver?

I've used Edirol PCR-30 for years and now have GB3. I can only find driver 1.2.0 if there's a more recent one that that.
In Audio Midi Utility I do have an icon that says IAC driver, but when I say test it turns into a musical note and I assume I can play it.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing. I do note that the data out light never lights up and i think it used to.
Any ideas of what to do or what might have happened?
I am using my older computer for this (G4 9333MHZ with 1.5 GHZ RAM.
    thanks

Solved. Turned out to be my USB extension chord.

Holding play while powering up has no effect. Trying to power up or connecting to the computer illuninates the play/pause and options buttons solid blue. Battery status is 80-90% charged. In Device Manager it is displayed as Player Recovery Device Class. Player is approx. six weeks old. Does anyone have any suggestions that would help revi've this player ?

  • Zen micro doesn' work after firmware upgr

after having upgraded from version .02.03 to version 2.00.2 , the player in not detected by the pc anymore.
the player itself works properly ( the radio , the menu etc) but is completely empty. No way to sync it with the pc , when you connect it to the usb port ,the computer gives an error message : impossible to connect the peripherical

    zenskull,
Are you sure the player firmware is registered as 2.00.2? Go into the player setting and check the firmware information. From the info I have, you should not be able to flash to 2.00.2 from .02.05. Hmm....

  • Exception Aggregation (Average) displaying incorrect values after EHP1 Upgr

    Hi All,
Exception Aggregation (Average) displaying incorrect values after EHP1 Upgrade in our BW system
We have recently upgraded the system to EHP1. After the upgrade some of the queries where we are using Exception Aggregation (Average) started giving the incorrect values.
Eg. We are displaying three Key Figures KF1, KF2 and KF3 (=KF1 %A KF2) against Store Hierarchy. In KF3 we are using Exception Aggregation (Average) on a characteristic 0PLANT.
There are 14 rows against 0PLANT and out of those 2 rows are blank for KF1, so for KF3. When it is calculating the average of these key figures its dividing the total value by 12 instead of 14 which is not correct in our case. Earlier it was dividing the total by 14.
So in this case 'Average' and "Average of all values <>0" are behaving the same way.
Kindly provide some inputs on this.
    Best Regards,

    Hi,
Thanks for viewing the thread. And happy to let you know that the issue was resolved.
    The solution was:
Two formulas (local) were created, one including the formula variable with replacement path for ZD1, with exception aggregation on ZD1, and the other with formula variable with replacement path for ZD2, with exception aggregation on ZD2. Both these formulas are hidden.
Another formula (local) was created for u2018time takenu2019 = formula with ZD1 u2013 formula with ZD2, with exception aggregation total on u2018ZDOCNOu2019.
For the second instance, when one requires exception aggregation on records that has multiple values for keys, a nesting of formulas can be done displaying only the ones required.
For e.g. a formula with exception aggregation on say characteristic u2018item no.u2019 can be hidden, and included in another formula for exception aggregation on characteristic u2018document no.u2019. This is a typical case where one can achieve calculation before aggregation for a calculated key figure, formula or a counter.
Hope it might help someone, and saves time and effort for a similar issue posted.
Also would like to keep this thread open for exploring better solutions.
    Regards,
    Vijay

  • Non-battery problem after firmware upgr

OK this is really weird. The first time I boot up the Zen in the morning, after the little swirly screen, the word "zen" comes up in big letters. Just since the upgrade (not before), half the "Z" is missing!!
However, once I have had it on a while, if i turn it off and then on again, it's back and ok. What gives? Is this a sign of future problems with the zen? I guess I will go back to old firmware and see if it does it.
OH, and the battery issue, it showed I had 3 bars left after all night being off, but it's on the usb right now and it's definitely charging (light pulsing).

i know about this problem cuz im having this.
it's not because of new firmware
i have this problem since last firmware.
it occurs when you turn off player while playing music.
and then after 4 hrs(or duing deep sleep), you get this when you turn on.
try turn off player after you stop the music.
pull out the battery and put in, and turn on.
then you will not get this problem.
'so it occurs when you turn off while playing. and turn on during deep sleep'
i wish im right. but there are other possible answer beside this one.

  • Zen Micro not recognized by Creative software after firmware upgr

I had really old firmware, so I upgraded it to the latest version (2.2.02). Immediately after doing so, I noticed my Micro appears in Windows and is recognized by Windows Media Player (I'm using v0, not the new beta).
But it's not recognized by the Zen Micro Media Explorer or by the Creative MediaSource Organizer, which I was hoping to use to reconstruct my playlists easily. Explorer claims the player is not connected.
Upgrading my drivers (to .30.03) and Creative software (to 3.30.2) did not fix the problem.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    rs93,
You need to install the MTP plugin for MediaSource and also update your copy of the Zen Micro Media Explorer to a version that support the new firmware. All the above can be downloaded from the website.

  • Nomad Explorer not detecting Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra after firmware upgr

<blockquote dir="ltr">From the firmware thread: "The Creative drivers shouldn't make any difference. An MTP device is looking for the Windows Media Player 0 MTP driver (which is installed with WMP0)."[/quote]Is that why my updated Zen Xtras (40G and 60G) are no longer recognized by Nomad Explorer on Windows XP? XP sees them. MediaMonkey sees them (and can synch). (WMP0 is installed, but I haven't tried it.) Nomad Explorer (3.0.0, 22 Sep 2004) says nothing's detected. Is this because I'm still using the latest driver (2.0.00), which the Creative download site says only supports firmware below 2.00.00. (If so, interesting choice by Creative, making us downgrade the driver.)?I wouldn't care, but Nomad Explorer is the only way (I know of) to edit the devices' names and startup bitmaps. And I wouldn't even care so much about the bitmaps, but I really really want to edit the names so that I can tell them apart in MediaMonkey's list of devices. Can we still use Nomad Explorer? Which driver should I be using? Creative's download section is anything but clear:?2.0.00 (8 Oct 2006): Supports XP but the firmware must be below 2.00.00.
.30.03 (3 Sep 2005): Supports XP but was released before firmware 2.0.03, so does it support it's?There's also a legacy OS Driver for Windows 2000 (.0.00, 27 Feb 2006) which specifically says it supports PFS players. Is this what I need? Can we no longer use Nomad Explorer on XP (even though it's listed as a download)?

Thanks, but if the Nomad Explorer requires the suite to work, I'll just have to do without it. The Creative Suite is better than it used to be, but IMO it's still not as good as MediaMonkey. Still, Creative doesn't list the Suite as being required for Explorer to work, so I don't think that's it. From the Download page:?Requirements
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition or Windows 98 Second Edition<
Creative NOMAD Jukebox 2, 3, Zen, Zen USB2.0, Zen NX, Zen Xtra or Zen Touch<
I'll try the other driver tonight and see if that's it.

  • X-fi extrememusic keeps resetting to 2/2.1 speakers on a restart after vista upgr

I checked the knowledgebase and it said to make sure x-fi is default device and disable other devices, which I have done, but everytime I reboot the settings in audio console keep resetting to 2/2. speaker configuration when I used 5.. If I manually set it, it works until a restart. Using driver package Any ideas?

If you actually performed an upgrade installation of vista from xp i can almost guarantee you nothing will work perfectly as it should. Upgrade installations never work perfectly and tend to lag quickly , i recommend that you perform clean install of vista if you plan on using it for a while. You probably didn't want to hear that but unfortunately thats the way windows has always been.

  • Re-occuring shut off when scrolling even after firmware upgr

    Hello all,
I have a Muvo Tx FM and have had it since May. In June, it started shutting off when I used to scroll bar. I came to the forum and the suggestion was to reinstall the firmware. So I dl'ed it from this site and reinstalled it. The player worked fine and I was estatic.
Fast-forward to August and its doing it again.
Does anyone know why this happens?
Is there a more permanent solution to the issue?
How long is the warranty on these players (typically)?
I will try to upgrade the Firmware, but somehow I doubt this is going to help.
    -Thanks,
    TG.

Some people have linked it with happening when removing the player from the PC, without ensuring it's "safely removed".
Failing that, can you pinpoint any event that causes it to happen?
Warranty varies depending where you bought it. It's 3 months in the USA (I'm not sure if the MuVo is covered with a further 9 months parts only warranty, I know some of the Zen players are). In Europe the warranty is at least year.

  • Graphic equalizer crashing after driver upgr

    Hi.
Upgraded the drivers today using software autoupdate, for some reason the graphic equalizer stopped working.
Booted into safemode removed all drivers and reinstalled them from the cd and the equalizer was working.
Used software autoupdate and updated to the latest driver and the equalizer stopped working AGAIN.
Took a look in windows logbook and found this.
Felaktigt program cteq.exe, version .5..0, felaktig modul equda.eqc, version ..3.0, felaktig adress 0x0000ee9.
Not sure what the correct words are but translated into english its something like.
    wrong program cteq.exe, version .5..0, wrong module equda.eqc,versin ..3.0, wrong adress 0.0000ee9
Windows xp with all recent upgrades.
    Audigy2?
?So what is the problem and can it be solved?
    Regards.

If you need the graphic equalizer you need to roll back to the latest working driver for the Audigy 2: http://danielkawakami.blogspot.com/
For installing the unofficial driver pack you don't need the official Audigy2 install cd, since the unofficial pack already includes the applications such as the graphic equalizer, EAX console, surround mixer etc.; if you need all the applications that are only available with the official Audigy 2 install disc you should install the drivers and applications from the disc and update the driver to the mentioned version of 2.09.006 (9 oct 2006); my experience is that this older driver for the Audigy series causes less problems than the official newer beta drivers.
    Good luck!

  • N73 loses settings on turn off after firmware upgr...

I just upgraded my N73's firmware to version 4.0726.2.0.1, which went fine. I then restored the backup from the SIM card. Everything works fine now unless I turn the phone off. When I turn it back on it has forgotten the time and date, which then need resetting. This isn't such an issue, except if i want to use the alarm function i cannot turn the phone off. Any thoughts anyone?

There have been a lot complain on this. To my knowledge, this is concerning on back up battery in your phone (as bios battery in your PC) which may be flat. Or anyone already found it is concerning with FW. Please confirm.
