Midi controlled sounds

My midi controlled sounds cut off when controller keyboard note is lifted creating a click as the "sample is stopped" any Ideas ?
this is domianent on piano patches

Thanks for your reply Blueberry. The fact that I have overlapping objects is not in dispute here. What effect does it have? I don't understand what difference it makes in terms of the operations within MainStage2. That's what the question is.
As it turns out, there are several objects highlighted in blue (in layout view), but that doesn't tell me what it means. In the layout view, I had put pedals and switch controllers together based on the keyboards they are connected to, and they match the physical layout I have on the floor. I also put pitch and mod wheels next to each of the keyboards. I don't know whether I need to do this, but I thought it would help to see what's going on, and to map functions with controls.
Is it an innocuous message telling me that the graphic might not be clear, or is it saying that there is an underlying configuration issue which will prevent operation ? If it's graphical, then it still looks like I want it to look, but if it's something programmatic which will disable functionality, then that's a different story. In that case, I want to know how to resolve the issue, otherwise there is no issue from my perspective. Things look like I want them to look.
Still looking for something more conclusive.

Hey Bill,
Check to see if the option for "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys." is turned off. When it is turned on, you would need to hold the Fn key while hitting one of those keys will make it work they way icons are displayed. To find out where this option is, go to System Preferences > Keyboard and in the Keyboard tab is where you want to be. Take a look at the article below for more information.

In Logic Pro 9, how many midi controlled software instruments do you get...?

In Logic Pro 9, how many midi controlled software instruments do you get and is there possibility to download more as it says 40 on the programs info on the Mac Store, as i intend to compose on it but with only 40 instruments it's not really worth it.
So i was just wondering whether it let you download more for free.

Yes: I too am interested in the software instruments available in Logic Pro: one has to be a bit wary of the jam packs because there don't seem to be many solo instruments included. But I looked at the Logic screen in an Apple store the other day, and it worked like GarageBand in
this respect: you created a new track choosing the software instrument option and a whole lot of instruments came
up in a column on the right: lots of solo wind instruments, plenty of keyboards and guitars of course and not very many solo strings, only one violin, in the world music subsection under Irish fiddle. Yehudi Menuhin

Controll sound

Hello! I'm running Arch Linux with i3 and gnome. But I can't controll the sound in i3. Via gnome I can just controll the sound via the gnome ..urr..sound controlling app. I installed alsa-utils and alsa-oss and tried using alsamixer (via terminal) to controll sound in i3, alsamixer finds the USB sound output device (dac); but I can't controll the sound on it, it has no "sound bar". It is not muted, I can listen to music via spotify/cmus and when running speaker tests (speaker-test -c 2) I get the aproriate sound output, there is how ever no sound in VLC/Gnome Media Player.
So, any one know how to get controll over my USB sound device? I'll post some (hopefully) helpfull results from commands belllow:

Let it be noted that before I re-installed arch (minor screw ups : ) ) alsamixer worked flawlessly, I can't remember having done anything different during install

You should be able to control the sound dynamically via simple scripts, e.g.:
amixer -q sset Master 1+
and
amixer -q sset Master 1-
For muting the sound, use
amixer -q sset Master toggle
You can use xbindkeys to assign them to keyboard shortcuts of your choice. Of course, you can use the native i3 config file / scripting capabilities as well; I don't know this WM's config rules well enough, though.

Control sound in timeline

I've some mc called, one a time, with attachMovie named
mcTarget, each of
this has one speaker track sincronized with the animation on
the stage. For
this reason sound is put directly in timeline in stream mode
(proprieties>>Sincr: stream). But now I cant control
the volume of these
sounds. I'll tryed to do this:

Is it possible to assign MIDI control to change tempo?

I would like to be able to change tempo (say, from 120 to 180 bpm) by using a fader from a MIDI keyboard (Edirol PCR-30). I can assign MIDI commands to Logic's buttons, volume, pan... but I can't figure how to do it with tempo. Any help would be appreciated.

Environment-->New-->Fader-->Specials-->Tempo Control
You get a fader which you can then assign a MIDI control command to.
I've heard somewhere that this is really buggy in recent years so use at your own risk, but at least in theory that's how you do it.

Controlling sound on user computers

Hi
I was wondering if their is a way to control sound when the users log on so they cannot hear on their machines. Is their any setting in Mac Server 10.4.9.
This would help stop them from going to music sites on line instead of working.

This is not a managed preference available on OSX Server. You can mute the sound on each client mac whilst logged in as the administrator. When students log in with their network accounts they won’t hear anything.

Midi instrument sound

hows everybody doing?
My midi is a yahama keyboard and I am able to create beats and make songs through the sounds of the logic instruments. I'm having trouble since I don't know how to get the midi instrument sounds recorded onto logic pro. I can record the notes from the keyboard but I just can't get the instrumental sound from it. Also I was wondering how you are able to rip a song apart. I know how to put the song file into logic, but I dont know how to take for an example: the lyrics, away from the beat, or the drums, etc. Somebody please help, this would be very much appreciated. Thank You.

If you want the actual sounds of your yamaha to be recorded into logic, you need to connect its audio output to your audio interface so that the sound from the keyboard can come into logic and be monitored and/or recorded. do a search on external instruments in your pdf manual for more info.
as for 'ripping a song apart', you can't do that with any software, hardware or magic wand. the only way to get the individual tracks of a song as separate tracks is to get them from the original multitrack recording. if you are a remixer and a record label asks you to do a remix and gives you the parts, then you're in luck. or you might find something on the internet (probably not legal so beware)..
there is one karaoke-style phase trick you can do to reduce the volume or sometimes eliminate the vocal (and anything else that is precisely in the centre of the stereo image) but this is a gimmicky thing, it won't achieve what you are after.

Midi controlled filters, aka use mod wheel to change cut off frequency

Does garageband have any filters that you can control in real time via midi? Such as dynamically changing the cut off frequency of a low pass filter.
I'd love to do a classic filter sweep using the mod wheel.
Are there any midi controlled AU plugins that can do this?

Any automation in GB is done via the automation curves.

Firstly, thanks for your message.
What I meant by "hi pass mid pass shrinking in" is EXACTLY what you menat, I got a heavy bass and muffed high and mid content. Apologised for my poor English.
I haven't checked the setting of the playback device yet but instead I tested it with some professional produced tracks. I know the sound tends to vary a little bit when playing from computer and CD player such as the CDJ 900 that I am using. The differences were not as significant as my own track. They tend to get a rather good balance. My track is well balanced and mixed (I guess) in Logic but it turns out completely different when using the CD player.
I bounced my work to MP3 with highest BIte Rate.

Random 3 note tone, low high mid tone sound in succession.

Occasionally I get a three tone sound from my MBP. It sounds like something you would hear on a station with a low high mid tone sound in succession. As it is too random it is hard to capture using opensnoop and filemon.

If you are running Skype, it could be alerts that contacts are available. You can turn the off in Skype/Preferences.

MIDI control besides the basics

Hi,
I'm rocking iPad Garageband from an M-Audio Oxygen49 MIDI controller keyboard.
I'd like to use the sliders on my keybaord to control different parameters in the instruments, like the filters on synths, or the drawbars in the organ.
Does anyone know if these instruments can be controlled in this way by MIDI?

Anyone got song position midi control to work with the duet or any other control surface?
The Key Command dialog handles much better with any midi controllers. It supports multiple midi events, sysex messages etc... For example I can use same CC# number with different ranges to control Rewind, Forward i.e CC12 ( 0-0 ), CC12 ( 1-1 ) assigned for different buttons of my external controller.

Midi control assignments on KCom Window are removed

I cannot exactly understand in which precise circumstances it happens, but every time I switch on my Mac, launch Logic8 and open the song I was worked on, Midi control assignments on KCom Window are disappeared. I reput them 5 or 6 times but they aren't saved.
Any comments?

Preferences are saved to pref files when Logic quits.
Create an assignment, quit Logic, restart Logic. If that assignment is not there, that indicates possibly a permissions problem, where the preferences can't be written.
