Migrated the database to ASM storage .

Hi friends,
I have migrated the database from 10g(non-asm) to 11g ASM storage on solaris machine. I am facing database slowness after the database upgrade.I don't find any problem in the ADDM/AWR report.
Could you please suggest me whether anything needs to check?
Regards
Rocky

Can you run ADDM from the dbconsole?
Also you can run sql tuning advisor.
However, its worth checking your diskgroups.
Can you post Mountpoints defined in /etc/vfstab ?

  • Migrating a database to ASM.

    Hi all,
I have an environment for test purposes running 10.2.0.1.0 database on a Linux CentOS 4 box.
Now what I´m trying to accomplish is migrate this database to ASM.
    Some adittional info:
$ ps -ef | grep pmon
    oracle 4063 1 0 07:27 ? 00:00:00 ora_pmon_APPS102
    502 6659 1 0 07:34 ? 00:00:00 asm_pmon_+ASM
    $ lsnrctl status
    Services Summary...
    Service "+ASM" has 1 instance(s).
Instance "+ASM", status BLOCKED, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
    Service "APPS102" has 1 instance(s).
Instance "APPS102", status READY, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
What I´m doing is to log into database through EM 10g console as sys user, then I go to the Administration page from where I can run the ASM migration wizard.
Then, after inform my SYS password and my Host account/Password, I´m facing below error:
Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12528, TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections The Connection descriptor used by the client was: (description=(address=(host=VM_PEGASUS.localdomain)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(sid=+ASM)(server=dedicated)))
I´ve already stopped and started the listener and restarted both instances. Did not work, same situation.
Well, any help will be very appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Marcello M.

    Hi,
Please see (How To Use Automatic Shared Memory Management (ASMM) In Oracle10g) Doc ID: Note:295626.1 on Oracle Metalink.
The main goal of this document is to show you how to put in place the ASMM facility introduced with Oracle10g, how to configure it, and also some examples on how to monitor its activity.

  • Migrating the database

Hello, I am migrating from the PC to the Macintosh and I would like to move my music collection.
Copy the music files themselves is fairly easy, and I also know how to authorize my computer to play the DRM protected files i have.
    I have two questions though.
    1. Where are my playlists located?
    2. I would also like to migrate the database that shows my play history, etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Migrate entire database to ASM on another server via RMAN minimal downtime

    Hi
I was looking for a procedure to migrate non ASM production databases to ASM via RMAN on a separate server with minimal downtime (backup as copy/switch database to copy technique). We have TDPO for tape backup and I normally rman clone test databases between servers but this involves too much downtime for production. The procedure in the ASM Admin Guide (Chapter 8) assumes the databases are on the same server.
    Thanks

Tom CullenDear Tom. Why you think you'll have downtime in the production database? The database will be running while the clone will be processing. Check the following link:

  • How to Migrate the database from AIX 4.3 oracle 7  to another Aix 5.3

    Hi,
    This is the scenario.
Oracle 7 runs in AIX 4.3 now the client wants to upgrade to a new machine with
    oracle 10gr2 in AIX 5.3 .
    AIX 4.3 in production now.
AIX 5.3 and oracle 10gr2 installed now.
is there any other possibility other than export to migrate to new server.
    Regards
    Elamaran

Sorry to disappoint you :( It's the same thing as with my car - If it's not without fuel I turn the key and drive ;)
Confined to the development database instance, writing packages is the only thing I'm allowed to do (even forbidden to use some of the Oracle supplied ones).
There are other guys having to do the rest.

  • Migrate VLDB(30TB) NonRAC database to ASM

My customer is running 10.2.0.5 database which is 30TB in size. Its HACMP/PowerHA with active/passive configuration.
Customer would like to migrate this database to ASM. They dont take rman backups because of the size of the database and rely on bcv backup technology. Customer would like to know what is the best possible way of doing this migration with minimal downtime and risk.

BCV uses copy on write technology and advanced mirroring techniques. A BCVs can be used to resync data or it can be detached from the active data storage and mounted separately for offline processing.
If a complete restore of an object or previous device clone is sufficient then it can be a quick disaster recovery. However, certain implementations, like EMC Timefinder/Snapshot are not suitable for disaster recovery since they rely on the existence of the original data source.
Anyway, I think BCV technology provides only a very limited way for Oracle database backup since it duplicates data errors and is not suitable for advanced rman database or tablespace restore and recovery. A 30 TB database can be time consuming for RMAN, which also depends on what kind of database it is and, for instance, how frequent a full backup is required, but it can be done.
Regarding NAS, it is just an example to show that affordable storage solutions exist and that it does not have to be expensive EMC storage. I do not see why such a solution cannot meet very strict data center controls in terms of technical aspects.

  • Which is the best way to migrate the SQL SERVER 2000 Database to SQL SERVER 2003 Database?

    Hi,
I  need to migrate the Production database sql server 2000 to Sql server 2003, Please give me the best idea to migrate the database without any loss data, credentials and  Objects.
    Nandha Kumar

SQL server does not have any version named SQL server 2003 please check the version correctly it should be either SQL 2005,2008,2008 R2,2012
You can use the backup/restore to upgrade the SQL 2000 database to till SQL 2005,2008,2008R2
For SQL Server 2000 to 2012
First upgrade from SQL 2000 database to either SQL 2005, 2008 or 2008R2 and than upgrade it to SQL 2012.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/eaa1eb44-729f-466b-8233-cb768fbb4208/upgrading-to-sql-server-2008-from-sql-server-2000?forum=sqlsetupandupgrade

And after migration to SQL 2005 or 2008, if you want to script the database than can generate scripts pick DB and check off "script all objects in the selected database".
    http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2011/05/07/sql-server-2008-2008-r2-create-script-to-copy-database-schema-and-all-the-objects-data-schema-stored-procedure-functions-triggers-tables-views-constraints-and-all-other-database-objects/
You can upgrade from SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, and SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012.

  • Migrating the Avi Code Databases

    Hi,
I have a setup where there is SCOM 200 r2 and AviCode 5.6 installed.
We need to migrate the databases for AviCode. Please let me know the high level steps to complete this.
This is what I have come up with,
    - Migrate the SQL databases.
    - In the AviCode setup utility, change the database server name and point it to the new sql server.
Please let me know if this is enough or do we need to make any changes at the SCOM end ?
    Thanks,
    Dhanraj
    Regards, Dhanraj

    Hi Dhanraj,
Before migrating SEViewer DB stop Intercept Services on all the Intercept Agents targeted to that SEViewer instance. Start those services when the migration is done.
If you don't change SEViewer app location, - so you are only going to migrate DB, - your steps will be enough.
If you change SEViewer location, there are two steps more:
    1. Target all the Intercept Agents to new SELog address (this is done within Intercept Management Console).
    2. Update SEViewer location in SCOM. Please, read below how to do that.
To change the automatically assigned SEViewer address for a host you’ll need to:-
    "Change scope…" to the
    "Windows Computer" on the
    "Rules" tab
Override "Enable enterprise mode" rule – then you can choose appropriate group in
"For a group" menu or you can choose separate computer in
"For a specific object of class: Windows Computer" menu.
      3. Choose appropriate group or a computer to apply new settings (groups menu or a computers menu will appear depending on the previous selection).
    4. Set up appropriate "Override Value" in SEViewer Location (Domain/NetBIOS name depending on your
    network settings):
    5. Do not use "Default management pack" as destination management pack to avoid possible inconsistencies
    – choose/create another one (e.g. "AVIcode… Overrides");
    6. Apply the changes.
    7.  Run task
"Upgrade Enterprise Agent" on the corresponding
    "Enterprise .NET Monitoring Agent" object.
These steps will apply new SEViewer location for the chosen host(s).

  • How can i Migrate a database from DB2 to SQL Server 2008r2.

    Hi Gurus,
Kindly help me letting me know the process for migrating the database from DB2 to SQL Server.
    1) Is there any way to migrate a database from DB2 to SqlServer. (My assumption is we can not migrate database, if wrong correct me gurus).
    2) Or we can only transfer data from that DB2 database to SQL Server (Using SSIS packages).
Please help me knowing the process to migrate the data from DB2 server to MSSQL server. Even am reading the documents available in the web.
    Thanks in advance.. :)

Microsoft provide a migration assistant for DB2 to SQL Server:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45296
SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) is a free supported tool from Microsoft that simplifies database migration process from DB2 to SQL Server and Azure SQL DB. SSMA automates all aspects of migration including migration assessment analysis, schema and
SQL statement conversion and data migration.
    Hope that helps

  • Datapump skipping partitioned tables in the database

I have run expdp on Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 on AIX 5.6 Platform, the export runs well exporting rows in the database but when it comes to partitioned tables in the database it export no rows for all the partitioned tables. When I run a normal exp/imp the partitioned tables are exported with all their rows.
    I used the following commands:
    expdp system/****** dumpfile=export_data.dmp directory=DATA_PUMP_DIR full=y logfile=export_dump.log
Output for expdp on partitioned table:
    . . exported "SCOTT"."DEPT":"DEPT_2003_P1" 0 KB 0 rows
    . . exported "SCOTT"."DEPT":"DEPT_2003_P10" 0 KB 0 rows

    And for exp:
    exp system/****** file=export_dump.dmp full=y log=export_log1.log
Result from the export log for partitioned tables:

Sorry I just copied and pasted some extracts from my exp and expdp logs:
For testing purposes I tried to run a datapump export of only 1 partitioned table in the database and its going through, but when I do the same on a full datapump export these partitioned tables are being exported with no rows.

If I specify the parameter imp system/password file=dept_export.dmp full=y log=dept_imp.log with the same dumpfile and it imports data from the dumpfile into my database.
I am not sure what could be wrong with my dumpfile or my imp command and its parameters.

  • Migrating image database in Informix 9.21 to Oracle 9i

I am going to be migrating an image database from Informix 9.21 to Oracle 9i and am needing to know
what Oracle9i has to offer as far as options in storing large media types - image, video, audio, etc...
Specifically, does Oracle have anything comparable to Informix' smart blobspace? Is it possible to migrate
image data from Informix to Oracle? I know the migration kits only are available up to Informix version 7.
    What does interMedia offer?

    Hi,
I was unable to reproduce your problem. I carried out the following steps in attempt to replicate the issue:
    1. I launched the workbench, version 10.1.0.2, selecting the Oracle Lite "Default Repository".
    2. Using the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console, I created a user "rtdb" with the password "rtdb" on my target Oracle 9i database.
    3. I captured a test Informix database, generating its source and oracle models.
    4. I then proceeded to migrate the database to Oracle and supplied my target Oracle9i database information in the "Migration Wizard, Step 1 of 4: Destination Database Details", supplying rtdb/rtdb as the username/password.
    5. My test database migrated with no such error messages reported.
If you carried out the migration steps as I have outlined above, and are still experiencing issues with a "Failed to connect" error, I would contact support.

  • Response time much more in migrated AIX database than in Windows database

We migrated a 9.2.0.6 database from windows to AIX (on same oracle version). Initially we were getting really slow response on direct sqls and batch sqls fom application server. Then we tuned aix database a bit and got a better response time for direct sqls on aix database.
Now queries run faster on aix database than the db on windows.
However, the queries from applciation (ACCURATE application) are still twice slower on aix database compared to windows database.
Can anyone suggest a possible cause or tuning area?
We have checked on network level and found no bottlenecks.

    Garima

if you have particular queries that you know of that are behaving differently, you could start right away by comparing the execution plans and tracing the execution using the SQL trace facility and the "tkprof" trace file analyzer.
If you want to get an overview of the database performance, you should consider installing STATSPACK on both systems if you haven't done so yet and create snapshots to compare statspack reports from both systems for a representative time period. This way you can gather information about the top wait events and top SQLs of the periods analyzed.
By the way, how did you "migrate" the database? Did you use export/import to migrate? What about the statistics for the cost based optimizer, could these be different between the two systems or are you still using the rule based optimizer?
