Migration from Photoshop Elements Windows to MAC

Hi,
I don't know if this question is answered already somewhere in this forum. I started a search without results.
Maybe I'm wrong. If so, please apologize.
I used Elements for years on my Windows box. Recently I bought an iMac and would like to know if it's possible
to migrate my albums and all the stuff from Windows to Mac using the Mac version of Elements.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
ssv

The mac version of PSE has no organizer, so no, not directly. What you can do is to create tags for all your albums and categories, and then use File>Write Tags and Properties to File(s) or John Ellis's psedbtool to write the tags as metadata keywords that many mac programs, including Bridge (which you get with PSE/mac) and iphoto can recognize, but you will need to reestablish any hierarchies.

  • Migration from Photoshop Elements 8 (Windows 7 64 bit) to PE 12 (MAC)

I am planning to move from a PC Windows 7-based system to a MAC.  As part of this move I will need to migrate Photoshop Elements from PE 8 in Windows to PE 12 on MAC.  Back in July, I previously asked what steps would be necessary to migrate to PE 11 on MAC, but I delayed making the move (waiting for the new MacBook Pro) and will now be migrating to PE 12.
Do I still follow the same steps for a (hopefully!) smooth transition of my tagged photos and catalog?  i.e., migrate from PE 8 (Windows) to PE 12 (Windows).  Then from PE 12 (Windows) to PE 12 (MAC).  Are there any gotchas or caveats that I should be aware of?  I've read a few horror stories in various places and am nervous.
    Thanks, Amy

I'm a bit slow on implementation.  So far I have good news and bad news.  But bottom line, I need some additional help.
First the good news: The upgrade in Windows from PE 8 to PE 12 went smoothly, with all tags and their hierarchical structure maintained.  Ditto for Albums which showed up under "Local Albums."
I am now stymied with the bad news and hoping for more guidance:  I just got my new MacBook last week, with my data files transfered over from my Windows PC.  Unfortunately, the migration to PE 12 MAC (installed for me with the disc from the boxed version) did not make the transition smoothly.  All of my tags came in under "Imported Keyword Tags," with the hierarchical structure totally flattened, and they cannot be dragged-and-dropped into a renewed structure into People, Places, and Events tags, as appropriate.  Also, all of my Albums have disappeared.
I'm thinking that maybe I should restore the catalog.  But when I started to do so, I was asked to choose between New or Original Location.  Then, when I chose "original location" (not wanting to clutter my new hard drive with duplicates), PE 12 gave me a warning about the potential for changes to the existing file structure.  So I stopped and decided to come back to the Adobe Forum for more help.
    Thanks in advance!  Again!  Amy

  • (Input and) output formats from Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac

I noticed that (until midnight PT, anyway) Amazon has Photoshop Elements for the Mac at a lower price than usual.  This brings up a question for me: What output formats can Photoshop Elements 6 produce?  In particular, can it produce PNG?  Also, can it accept PNG as input?

I think that all the formats like .bmp, camera RAW, EPS,PICT, TIFF, Filmstripn, IFF, JPEG, Photoshop pdf, Photoshop RAW,PNG etc are supported for both input and output.

  • Migration from Photoshop Elements 4.0 to Aperture

I would like to move from a PC to Apple platform and my one concern is that I have thousands of photos catalogued in Photoshop Elements 4.0. Can I migrate all of that information over to Aperture?

I'm not perfectly sure about how aperture stores/reads metadata, but if you use the Write Tags to Files command in PE 4 before bringing the photos to your mac, the tags will show up as metadata keywords. That may be enough (don't use aperture, myself so no way to try it out) but if not, if aperture can read iphoto keywords, you can use this script to make iphoto keywords from the metadata:

  • Printing from photoshop elements 6 for mac

I have an i-mac and use photoshop elements 6.  I have created hundreds of images but when i have contacted printers to print cards i created from these images using indesign i have been told by many printers that there is an issue regarding RGB vs CMYK .  Where and how can i get my RGB images printed for a reasonable price.  billrene

The main question I have is whether or not there is an efficient way to get a rgb images printed.  I have an Imac whose screen is a rgb pattern so even if i convert the images to cmyk (which i can do in a couple different ways -- through indesign or putting the images in photoshop).  however since my sreen is a rgb format i can not acurately see the changes I have made through converting to cmyk.  also i have several hundred images i have created and would rather not have to convert them all before printing.  I have had problems finding a printer that will even attempt to print rgb images.  I have checked at kinkos as well as several print shops in montana where i live.  each time i am told they can  not print rgb. the images I sent to those printers were unusable because of the color distortions.   When I talked with some one in the Apple store they suggested I get a different computer.  It has also been suggested i get a printer that could be calibrated to the rgb format and i could print the images myself.  another suggestion i received was that there may be a calibration program/software that i could use to make the converesion.    Help.  billrene

  • Migration from Photoshop Elements 5.0

Can anyone give me some advice as far as importing an Elements 5 catalog?
I've been using Elements (and Album before that) for quite a while and have extensively used collections and tags. Collections, in particular, and the order of photos and scans within - is there ANY way to get that over into Lightroom... some work-around?
Any help in doing this as best as possbile, short of re-creating everything, would be greatly appreciated.

  • Printing from Photoshop Elements 9 with MAC

There is no drop down menu showing paper sizes 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 when printing photos.  It is a pain to move everything to iPhoto to print these sizes. How do you do it?

You can review here as well. It`s for PSE11 but most of it is applicable for PSE9 as well.  http://blogs.adobe.com/pselements/color-management-settings-for-the-best-print-output/

Lightroom detects if your computer has a Photoshop Elements catalog and can import photos and data from the PSE catalog into a new Lightroom catalog. Lightroom imports photos and data from Photoshop Elements 6 and later on Windows. Lightroom imports photos and data from Photoshop Elements 9 on Mac OS.
Note: For help troubleshooting errors or problems when importing PSE catalogs into Lightroom, see the Adobe Support article Lightroom 3 cannot upgrade Photoshop Elements catalogs (cpsid_85517).
In the Library module, choose File > Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog. The Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog dialog box displays the most recently opened Photoshop Elements 6 (PSE6), Photoshop Elements 7 (PSE7), or Photoshop Elements 8 (PSE8), or Photoshop Elements 9 (PSE9) catalog.
To choose a different PSE catalog, click the Photoshop Elements drop-down menu.
To change the destination of the new Lightroom catalog, click Change and navigate to a different folder.
Click Upgrade to import the PSE catalog into a new Lightroom catalog.

  • Migration from Adobe Elements (Win XP) to Aperture 2

I am moving from a Windows XP machine with Adobe Elements 4 to an iMac and Aperture 2.1. I need to move thousands (6000 ??) of images to Aperture 2.1 and hopefully keep my metadata (keywords, tags and ratings) in the process. Both machines are connected to a LAN and I also have a network drive which I use as a backup device and shared storage. The majority of the files are JPEG (95%) with a few Canon RAW images in the mix.
Is there a recommended method of migrating Adobe Elements 4.0 files to Aperture 2.1?

I, too, would like to migrate from Photoshop Elements 4.0 on Windoze XP to Aperture 2.0 on OS X. And I'm hoping there's a way to migrate all 601,012 of my tags to Aperture instead of having to redo them all as Aperture keywords manually.
Does anyone know if this is possible? Or perhaps there's a utility to write Elements' tags as EXIF/IPTC prior to moving the files over and importing them into Aperture?

  • How do I import from Photoshop elements 12 to Lightroom for Mac OS?

How do I import from Photoshop elements 12 to Lightroom for Mac OS?

I never did it from Windows to Mac.
I assume you need to move everything to Mac PSE12 (or PSE 13) by downloading the 30 day free trial of PSE 12 or 13, and then once everything is working, use File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog in Lightroom. Your tags and albums will remain intact. I believe the face recognition transfers as well to keywords, but the location in the photo of the face will be gone as Lightroom has no such feature.

    Hi
I have a problem with color prints from photoshop elements 12. The pictures are too light and with strange colors. I have a Canon pixma mg615I0 printer and use mac os X yosemite. The pictures are taken with a coanon eos 550d in the color space sRGB. I have followed adobes recommendations and have tried both letting the printer respektive photoshop manage the colors. But nothing works. I see that there are different opinions about which is best to do so I tried both. I have the latest printer driver installed. Can anyone help me with this?

    Do the following:
Print a test page from the printer. Perhaps the print head needs cleaning via its maintenance facility.
Let the printer manage colors, not PSE
    Calibrate the monitor

Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 for Mac does not show up in Applications. Tutorial for editing from iPhoto shows selecting the Adobe software in Applications. Am I missing a step in registering product?

I answered my own question: There's a difference between "download' and "install." Hunt for "install" (1.5 hrs in my case) and line up your passwords, Adobe ID, etc, then install. Took 15 min. The right choice shows up in Applications. Now it's on to figuring out why photo selected for edit in iPhoto does not show up on screen in Elements.

  • Migration from PE 8 (Windows) to PE 11 - What steps?? (MAC)

I am planning to migrate from PE 8 (Windows) to PE 11 (Mac). I will continue to use the PE catalog in PE 11 to organize my library of 16,000+ photos.  Although I had considered moving to Aperture for my Digital Asset Manager (in order to more seamlessly work in an Apple environment), I have instead decided to stay with PE since I am familiar with it and happy with its functionality.
I am hoping that this forum can help me: I need to know what steps to follow to perform this migration.  (I am a non-technical user.  All I know thus far is  that I need buy a boxed version or PE11 -  NOT download it from the Apple app site - in order to get the cataloging function.)  I would like the process to enable me to port both my photos AND my hierarchical keyword tagging structure.
(Some background on why I am asking this question proactively: I was severely burned in a previous upgrade from PE 5 to PE 8 (Windows XP to  Windows 7) where ALL of my tagging got lost in the move. This, despite hours of work with the Adobe support team who had me write the keywords into metadata and re-backup, re-port, etc, etc.  It was a nightmare of many hours spent.  All unsuccessful.  I ended up manually re-tagging each of my photos.  Needless to say, I do not want to go through that again,)
Thanks in advance for your help.  Amy

Elements Downloader doesn't auto run on a mac. It's set up so that you always have to launch it from organizer.
If you know you won't use iphoto, then it's a good idea to go to the iphoto preferences>General>When a camera is connected, and choose No Application, in which case the card will mount like a drive on your desktop and you can drag the photos from it or launch PSE Downloader, or choose Image Capture, in which case apple's own OS X downloader/scanner utility launches and you can use that, then File>Get Photos>From Files and Folders to bring them into Organizer.
For moving the catalog, the most important thing is to be sure the catalog is okay in windows first, so do go to manage catalogs>repair, and then optimize before backing up. The transfer is very easy when it works.
