Migration Strategies

HI Gurus,
You might help us,weI need your strategical inputs.
We have our 2nd company code SAP Roll-out,  however the project stop. Migration was done way back July 2011.. and now 2012 they wanted to continue.
What would be the best strategy to do in here? As users wanted to trash back all the data that has been uploaded last july 2011.. and upload a fresh start/new data as of 31 dec 2011 since its 2012.
Can be the data uploaded last july 2011 be reverse totally? GL AR AP (balance and Open Items)..  We suggest to just upload the missing months and reconcile to be balance, but user donu2019t want
Any inputs? Appreciate you help
Thank so much

Hi Friend,
cannot, as we have another company code that is existing and running..
any inputs?

  • Migration from Oracle 7.2 to Oracle 8i, 8.1.6

    Hi,
Am migrating an existing Oracle 7.2 database to Oracle 8i, 8.1.6. The database size is 250 GB. Am summarizing the migration strategies available:
    1.Oracle Migration tool (command line)
    2.Oracle Data Migration Assistant.
    3.Export / Import
4.Data Copy by using database links and using "create table as" statement.
Due to the restriction of export file size and practicalities, am ruing out the last two options. The problem that I am facing is as follows:
As I am migrating to the new OS HP UX 11.x, which supports Oracle 7.3.4and higher releases, I will have to do an intermidiate migration. A direct migration can be ruled out.
Any other options / strategies available for the same?
Kindly get back ASAP on [email protected] / [email protected]

    I can't think of any.
We did the 7.2 to 7.3.4 migration when we moved to HP-UX 11.0. Later on we did 7.3.4 to 8.1.7. I don't see why you can't do those two migrations i one step. although I may verify you HP-UX 11.0 is stable and working correctly with 7.3.4

  • Advise on Migration project

    Hi,
I have recently completed BI 7.0 training and have the opportunity to move into a upgrade project (don't know whether it is R/3 or BW upgrade yet) to get my first BI project exposure. I am not sure what all should I check before joining the project so that I can better utlise my time in some other implementation project in case this is not an ideal choice.
Please can you advise in which case it is better - R/3 upgrade or BI upgrade in terms of getting more hands-on experience in BI and also whether a upgrade project is at all advisable as the first project. I checked some other posts and it appears that in case of R/3 upgrade there is not much work required at the BI end. Is it true ? I have lots of experience in ABAP and so want to get exposure in this new technology.
    Tx,
    R

Why not...this is going to be a great experience ( and since this is your first project, everything is an experience for you). Also, whether it R3 or BI, learning is going to be there for sure...

  • How do I copy files from my old pc to my new imac?

how do I copy files from my old pc to my new imac?

There are many methods, however you are specific about the type of files you want to move. The first time your Mac turns on it begins with Setup Assistant and asks if you want to migrate from another Mac or PC, you must have missed that. I'd recommend looking over Pondini's Guide and following the directions for using Migration Assistant. You can find them by clicking How to Use Migration Assistant From PC to Mac 10.7 Lion.
If you have specific files you are attempting to migrate then moving them to an external HD and then just dragging and dropping them from the EHD to the Mac would be very simple. Apple explains migration strategies in Switch 101

  • Informatica and DAC questions

I understand that ODI is the tool of choice for the Analytics apps, but Informatica was still supported. Informatica is our standard integration tool, so we would like to upgrade ahead of Informatica version retirement.
    1) Is Informatica 8.x supported for the Analytics apps? If so, which sub version?
There is a Enhancement request in Metalink that says support will appear in the Tenerife release, but I have been unable to find confirmation.
    2) Does anyone have good migration strategies/methodologies for break-fix that invovle DAC changes. Wholesale DAC repository migration is ham-handed at best and recoding DAC elements after a move to a QA or Production is simply wrong.

ODI is not yet supported for any of the BI Applications.
The target is CY 2008 for one of the Analytic Apps to be able to use ODI.
We will continue to support Informatica going forward and recently renewed an agreement with them.
    To your other questions:
    1. No, INFA 8 is not yet supported but probably this CY.
    2. There are some documents that cover migrating and DAC Repository, etc. Yes this process needs to be improved but it is almost impossible to capture mechanisms that could compensate for every possible choice a customer could make.

  • Advantage of using SAP XI over webservices to interact with Biztalk

    HI everyone,
We have biztalk as integration tool. I would like to know is it feasible to implement Biztalk with SAP XI to communicate with our SAP ECC server. I heard it will be over weight to use both Biztalk and SAP XI coz each will have its own message box and leads to more process time. So we are planning to use Biztalk with SAP webservices. So please let me know which is better as cost wise and work wise biztalk with SAP XI or Biztalk with SAP Web services.
SAP Guys please take some time to provide some useful information. it will be much appreciated.
    cheers

    Ram,
    This is a contentious issue.
In principle a middleware to middleware integration is against the basic ideas of EAI. We need to integrate applications and not middlewares, but in reality this is in most cases an inevitable situation.
This blog discusses a similar middleware- middleware integartion ( XI and WebMethods) . Use the tips and tricks in this blogs to understand the issue you need to address , etc,

  • CR Developer 11.5 - no Oracle connection listed

    Hello,
I have the Oracle client on my PC, and have selected Oracle Data Access as an installed option in setup.
    I have crdb_oracle.dll under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc.
But, when I create a new report, "Oracle" is not an option under Create New Connection.  How do I make it available for reporting?
    thx

    It states that
For CR XI to work with Oracle, you will need to install the Oracle 9.2 client or higher.
    Here I'm pasting the article
    KBase Article ID:c2018235
    Article refers to:Crystal Reports XI
    Symptom
In Crystal Reports, there have been changes made to the availability of native database drivers.
What are those changes, and how will they affect the migration of your reports to Crystal Reports XI?
    Resolution
Below are the native database driver changes that have occurred between Crystal Reports 8.5 and XI. Migration strategies are offered for each change.
    SQL Server Native Driver:
The SQL Server Native driver is deprecated. Crystal Reports 8.5 was the last version to have this driver. When migrating a Crystal Reports 8.5 report to Crystal Reports XI, it is recommended that the report be converted to an ODBC connection in Crystal Reports 8.5, and then migrated to Crystal Reports XI.
    PC Type Databases:
In Crystal Reports 8.5, connections to PC type databases are created by clicking the 'Database Files' file folder in the 'Database Explorer'. In Crystal Reports XI, the following options are now used depending on the database to which you are connecting.
u2022 'Access/Excel (DAO)' - Native DAO Connectivity (Access, Excel)
u2022 'Btrieve' (Pervasive native connection to Pervasive files)
    u2022 'IDAPI Database DLL' (Paradox)
u2022 'xBase' (any xBase type database such as FoxPro 2.6 or lower, Dbase)
    u2022 'ACT! 3.0'
    Lotus Notes Native Driver:
The Lotus Notes Native driver is provided in Crystal Reports XI on an 'as-is' basis. This driver is deprecated so if issues occur with the driver, or if new versions of Lotus Notes are released, the driver will not be updated. Therefore, ODBC is the recommended method to connect to Lotus Notes to ensure full availability of functionality with Lotus Notes. It is also highly recommended that the report be converted to an ODBC connection in Crystal Reports 8.5 before migrating to Crystal Reports XI.
    Dictionaries and SQL Queries:
When migrating to Crystal Reports XI, reports that are based off Dictionaries or SQL Queries (.qry files) will need to update their datasource to use Business Views or Command objects, respectively. Dictionaries and the Query Designer have been deprecated and are no longer supported in Crystal Reports XI.
To migrate a report to use a Business View or a Command object, BusinessObjects Enterprise is required. Business Views are created in BusinessObjects Enterprise XI, and you will need the Data Source Migration Wizard to update your report's datasource to a Business View. Reports based on SQL queries will need to migrate to a Command object to run in Crystal Reports XI. In order to set the location of your report to the Command object, the Command must be stored in the Repository.
The Data Source Migration Wizard is included with Crystal Enterprise 9 and 10, and Business Objects Enterprise XI.
    Oracle Native Driver:
The Oracle native driver for CR XI requires the Oracle 9.2 or higher client, and the Oracle 8.17 or higher server. Before migrating reports based on the Oracle Native driver, make sure you have Oracle 9.2 or higher installed to continue using the native connection. If you do not have Oracle 9.2 or higher you can try switching to an ODBC connection to continue using an older version of the Oracle client.

  • HP Universal Print Driver

We have a print server with various models of HP printers. I have noticed that some newer models of HP printers come with the Universal Print driver rather than an individual print driver for that model. My question is does installing the Universal Print Driver on the server interfere in any way with the HP printers we have already installed. We have mainly laserjet 4000, 4050, 4250 and have them using there own driver. I understand that installing the UPD won't automatically make all printers suddenly start using that driver, but just want to make sure it doesn't affect them in any way like updating the odd dll. Is anybody running a mix of invidual drivers and the UPD? Did installing the UPD cause any issues?

The UPD should not impact the discrete (product specific) print drivers, unless there are shared component (dll) files. One thing to consider, is the PCL drivers do share the same unidrv "core" with other drivers (not exclusive to HP), which is provided by Microsoft. [The same holds true for the PS driver, and the pscript.dll core]. This core can be updated by a MS hotfix/patch/Windows Update, or by another company updating their software (ie. print driver update). MS acknowledges the update of this core may cause delays to a printing environment, while the update is occuring.
Additional info can be found at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967499. Although the document is written for clustering, it applies to other Windows technologies as well.
There is some pretty good documentation for the UPD, found on the "documentation" tab of www.hp.com/go/upd. The System Admin Guide discusses the ins-and-outs of the driver, migration strategies, and things to consider before implementing UPD in a print environment.

  • Personalization strategies for migrating values from stage to production

    Hello:
Much of our JSP code will execute differently based on profile/property values stored in the personalization server. Keeping changes to code and personalization settings in sync is proving to be very difficult among our test, staging and production systems. What are some of the strategies used to solve property value migration from test to stage to production?
Our code is stored in a source code control system, but the property values are stored in a database (i.e., via the personalization server) and are changed via a GUI. The database changes are not stored in the source code control system, so the difficulty lies in keeping code and personalization settings in sync.
A typical scenario is that a developer will write some code and test it against the test environment. Any new property settings are added to the test server and set with appropriate values. Once the changes are tested and working, the code is checked into the codeline. However, the properties are not, so potential problems exist when the code is promoted to stage, and the QA group attempts to confirm the new functionality. The new properties, can/will then be added to the staging environment, but since this is done via a GUI, the values are cannot be guaranteed to be exactly the same in test and stag

    Joe,
The PropertySet definitions are in XML. The definintions are under your

You omitted to say which version of the product you are using. In WLP 4.0
PropertySet definitions are stored as XML files and can be versioned
alongside your code and synchronized with a running server (to move from
    a
developer's machine to staging or production). We moved to this approach
    for
nearly all the business policy/configuration data -- for exactly the

    you mentioned.
With versions of the product prior to 3.5 you will need to use 3rd-party
