Migration Thunderbird (PC) to Mac Mail (OS X) : merged folders

Hi there,
I'm trying to migrate my emails from Thunderbird (PC) to Mac Mail. I have multiple accounts in Thunderbird in separate forlders.
I copied the thunderbird profile folder from my old PC  and imported the emails to Mac Mail, unfortunately the different folders and email adresses have merged. How can I import my emails with the same organisation?
Thanx

Apple support.

I have Yahoo mail provider but just lost my folders in Mac Mail program. The folders were not "On my Mac" but on "Yahoo". How do I get them back again? I have reinstalled MacMail as everything had disappeared. The new install has given me everything except the Yahoo folders. When I looked one of the folders had reappeared, but now it has gone again. I am using Yosemite.
Desperate to find those folders with so much data involved.

Thanks for that babowa. If I add my Yahoo account it just goes straight to MacMail and says I already have an account. There seems to be no basic problem with mails going between Macmail and Yahoo. It is just the folders that have disappeared, while MacMail was out of action. I don't think those particular folders were ever on the Yahoo mail that I access through BT, they were just on the MacMail under "Yahoo" as opposed to "On my Mac". I am worried in case I lose what I already have if I press "Restore" from my back up. As you can see, I am not exactly good at this!

Did you accidentally click  "Hide" ?

  • Mac Mail removed content from folders, brought back Archive folder

For the last two weeks, I've had no issues with Mac Mail on my new Macbook Pro running Mavericks.
My Mac Mail folders (not folders on the gmail side) were using my rules and filters accordingly. All of a sudden, without warning, my folders went completely blank.
I was using Mail's rules to send messages from Google Alerts to a folder, then things from Twitter and Facebook to another folder and I moved some messages into a third folder for future work.
The "Archive" box was not visible ... now, the Archive box has returned and there are no messages in my folders. I had about 45 unread google alert emails that are no longer showing.
I thought this was fixed because I went back to Mac Mail from Thunderbird to give it a shot. Worked fine with my gmail account. Now, it's back to being buggy again.
I've tried many other mail programs, but Mac Mail was by far the most productive for me. I've shut down and restarted and had the same thing.
The ONLY thing I've done to Mac Mail in the last 2 hours before it started was change a link in my signature and saved it. That was it. Unless that's the bug, I am pulling the rest of my hair out having these issues with Mac Mail. I do not use the web version of gmail very much because it just doesn't suit my workflow. Mac Mail was working great until Mavericks, then I got a new machine and after about two weeks, I tried it and it worked exactly like pre-Mavericks releases.
Now I've lost a bunch of folders and have no idea where those messages are. They were moved and are gone. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is going on here.

Seems like  it  storing the same emails in different folders .  As i see now :
    All Mail  5.11 GB
    Inbox     2.82 GB
    Important  2.56 GB
    Sent Mail  1.8 GB
    Sent          767.4 MB
    Starred     482.4 MB
    Drafts      57.4 MB
    Trash       9.7 MB
    Junk e-mail  671 kb
    Bin              414 kb
    Spam      0
    Deleted Items   0
    Apple Mail To Do  0
    Priority 0
    Follow up  0
    Misc  0
from this above , i can understand that  Inbox ( 2.82 Gb )  and Sent ( 767.4 Mb ) and Drafts are  real folders that contains actual files according to the current status on server .
what the **** the other folders contains , i can not get.  I though those folders should have just show the same files available in the main folders , in different way, according to Folder focus.  Am i right ??
apparently i suspect they just copied original files for some purpuses, insead of working as simple filter folders.
can anybody explain me , how to work this out and make my Mail app do not dublicate emails , but store them in appropriate way and show it to me .

  • Mac Mail not showing all folders

I am using my @icloud email account and I only see the Inbox and Sent mail folders in Mac Mail. I am not seeing Junk, Trash, Notes, etc.. If I look in Library/Mail/V2/<account> I can see all these folders listed. If I delete an email via Mac Mail I can see it appear on iCloud.com in the "Trash" folder so the mappings are all correct. How can I display them in the Mac mail application?

It could be that the sidebar that shows the additional folders isn't showing at all, so you're only seeing the top bar with a few shortcuts. Does it look like this:
    If it does, do this:
By clicking 'Mailboxes' you'll get the sidebar back. This can also be done by clicking View > Show Sidebar
Let us know how that goes!

  • Mac Mail Inbox and Sent folders empty after recreating my identity

Recently my ISP mail server may have been hacked, as I found that I was spamming my contact list with links to ads. In the course of troubleshooting this and the aftermath, I found myself following a tech support person's advice and deleting my wife's profile, then recreating it from scratch.
When my wife next logged in to her account, she found that "All the mail is gone!
Needless to say, this is my fault. Apparently, deleting the profile made this happen. I looked at the account on the server using the online (web) app that she refuses to look at, and it appears that all her mail is there.
I marked it all as Unread, and tried to re-DL it from the server, but no dice.
I have restarted the app and tried again, restarted the machine and tried again, put it down and walked away, running errands and looked online for answers and still nothing.
Anyone know how to do this? It can't be impossible. It just can't be.

In the Finder, open Home/Library/Mail and locate this POP account folder -- open the account folder, and then open the INBOX.mbox folder. In the Messages folder found within (is there only one) are there numerous xxxxx.emlx files?

  • Importing Windows Outlook 2007 email to Mac Mail using Thunderbird Workaround Looses Some Messages

After being away from using a Mac for 5 years I'm back with an iMac.
I found this workaround to import Outook 2007 emails to Mac Mail using Thunderbird on the PC http://www.trickyways.com/2010/08/how-to-transfer-emails-from-outlook-to-apple-m ail/
On the PC Thunderbird imports all my Outlook messages correctly and all are there.
Then when I import the resulting Thunderbird mailboxes to Mac Mail some messages are being lost. The directory structure for my mail folders imports correctly, just that some messages are missing.
There are earlier posts here saying Eudora Mailbox Cleaner worked for people but this wont run on Mountain Lion.
So has anybody got any ideas on how the get  all my Outlook e-mails to the Mac without losing anything?
What about software like Outlook2Mac, does it work fully or will I still have the same issue of some lost mail?
Can't believe I am having this problem migrating Window to Mac, you'd think it would work perfectly and not put people off from switching.
    Cheers.

Okay I slept on it and had a brain wave.
I set up iCloud Mail on Outlook 2007. Then copy messages from my Outlook Inbox to iCloud Inbox.
On the Mac copy the messages from iCloud Inbox to a folder On My Mac so they never get lost if I delete the iCloud account.
Playing about with it and it seems to work fine. Any reason why it could cause issues?
I love it when a workaround comes together!

  • Can Mac Mail nicknames be migrated with Migration assistant?

I have a user that moved from a computer running 10.8 to another running 10.8 using Migration Assistant.  The only issue she had was with her Mac Mail.  Her local folders and contacts transferred, but nicknames associated with those contacts did not.  So, when she types in, for example, her daughter's name, it no longer populates the address field with her email address.  Is there a way to recreate those nicknames?  Thanks!

I think this is because of Mail menu > Window > Previous Recipients. The next time, it probably will save it and populate the address filed in next email she sends. You could try a copy paste from her old system but I'm not sure and can't test that right now.

  • Mac Mail disabled

I just got a new MacBook Pro (my first Mac) for my work computer. Our IS has decided to force us to use Thunderbird and disabled Mac Mail. Does anyone know a way to enable or reinstall it? I don't have access to the OS disc. I think the application is still there, but just disabled somehow. The icon is still in the Applications folder, but if you try to launch it, nothing happens. The mail icon shows up on the dock momentarily, but then goes away. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Hi Robertshill,
If you are having an issue with sending email I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • Empty import folder when importing Mac Mail 6.5 folders to Mac Mail 4.5

When importing Mac Mail version 6.5 folders into Mac Mail version 4.5 the resulting import folder is completely empty.  The import process happens instantaneously and no error occurs.  Does anyone know if 6.5 is not backwards compatible with 4.5?

That's almost as ludicrous as the reason I'm trying to import new mail into an older version.  At least I know now to quit trying.  Thanks for the answer.

  • How to reset mac mail & retain folders - Please Help!

Long story short - I need to save a backup copy of my mail folders which I think I've done, then reset mac mail & load the saved folders back into mac mail.
I need to reset mac mail so it gets out of the stuck loop it's been in for 3 days as it uploads 25,000 (literally...here's where the long story could come in...) emails off my server for the second time.... quitting, force quitting & turning the computer off & on have already been done...anyway...hoping someone out there can give me either a place to find easy to understand step by step instructions on how to reset mac mail, or give me the steps themselves here.
thank you so much - you all are my last resort!

again - you guys are my last hope - any thoughts????

  • AOL & MAC Mail

I currently have a number of email accounts, but the 2 AOL accounts have their folders situated in a confusing way.
Both AOL accounts have IN/Sent/Trash/Junk folders in mac mail and all these folders have their names as account john-aol mail and tom-aol mail for both aol accounts. Seems to be no problem here (all of the contents are on server)
In addition, each account has another folder with a globe next to its name with subfolders.
    John-aol has apple mail to do/saved (saved IMS)/sent items/sent messages/voicemail
    Tom-aol has deleted messages (tom)/saved(saved ims)/sent items/sent messagestodos.mbox/voicemail
Whenever I send an email from either AOL account, the sent message gets put in the sent mail of the appropriate aol acct in macmail as well as in the sent mail of the folder with the globe next to it. The sent mail in the globe folder also will put a number next to the sent mail folder 1, 2 or whatever to show the number of unread sent messages
Is there a way to get rid of the globe AOL folders and be sure that all mail goes to the appropriate aol boxes in mac mail?
I think this all relates back to importing 2 AOL email accounts
    Sorry for the confusion

I think this is a problem with AOL that has started recently when they restructured their email when they left Times Warner. In addition to the same caution sign that you get, I sometimes get "port 993 timed out" when I click on the sign. More depressing, is that sometimes even though the sent mail does the "woosh" sound when it is sent there is no evidence that it has gone out, either on my computer or on the AOL server. Later, I find that it has actually been received by the recipient.

  • Moving mac mail messages to gmail through imap

    Newbie question so be gentle
Looking to move my Mac Mail to Gmail through IMAP - this is to ensure I can access my mail from any machine whilst I'm on the road working plus if my hard drive dies (which it did a year ago) I won't loose any messages/folders.
Currently have a couple of email addresses coming straight into Mac Mail and have numerous folders set up. Want to know if I link the Mac Mail to my Gmail account using IMAP will all my messages plus folders simply sync online with no issues? Will the folders remain intact (I understand Gmail uses 'labels' as folders)?
Looking forward to hearing from you and thanks in advance for your time.
    Peace
    DK

you can configure your gmail account as an imap account in mac mail. Then you can drag and drop either way between the 2 accounts. Once you have done that when you login to gmail webmail the mail will have been added there.
If you want to configure gmail webmail to recieve mail from a different mail account other than your gmail then you need to goto the gmail website for answers as this is not related to apple.
