MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”

One URL I visit pops up a warning that I don't have a "MIME type 'application/x-mplayer2' plug-in installed, so I can't use certain portions of the site. Where can I find such a plug-in? Is it a popular plug-in that is used by other sites?

I've never come across this plugin before - doubt it's widely used - but it might refer to MPlayer OS X, MPlayer Plug-in or Windows Media, I'm not sure. Try out MPlayer Plug-in first.

  • Inbound Email Attachments with MIME type of application/octet-stream

    I'm hoping someone can help me here. I'm trying to start a BPEL process via email. The email can consist of no attachments or multiple attachments. All the attachments should be text, e.g. XML, CSV, etc.
    Where I have got to is receiving the email and writing the attachments to variables. All is fine until I get an attachment that has a MIME type of application/octet-stream. I would only expect to see this for files that are not text based.
    Does anyon know how I can inturpret this type so I can extract the text? In this example both files are text based although only the first file is displayed.

  • How to change default application associated with some mime types?

    When we install some new program, for example GIMP, I assume the newly installed program is added to some mime type database, and the /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache file is automatically generated.
    Using my example, GIMP will be the default application for all its registered mime types, even application/pdf. I surely don't want this to happen, and I surely don't want to create all kinds of files that GIMP registered and right click on them and choose Properties and then change it in the Open with... tab. I want to systematically de-prioritize GIMP so that it will not override my previously assigned default applications.
    I wrote a script to modify the mimeinfo.cache file, and it seems to work great. However, after a reboot or upgrade or something I didn't notice, the default application of application/pdf is reconfigured to GIMP. I think the cache suffix of the file indicates that it is just a cache and may be changed by system unnoticed. So I am looking for a new way to change the default applications.
    As far as I know or guess from the phenomena, there should be some system utility that generates the mimeinfo.cache file, it seems to parse all the *.desktop files under /usr/share/applications and register them to certain mime types accordingly. The sequence of the *.desktop files get parsed seems to be related to the time the application is installed, and the newly installed applications seems to be parsed later and inserted in the front of the application list or be parsed earlier and appended to the application list. Is there some place I can change the sequence of the parsing? Or is there some place I can change the behavior of the system utility?
    I know that I can populate my ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list to override the system wide defaults, however, I want a more elegant way to this.
    Any opinion on this is welcomed.

    Ah, right. Don't know what DE you are on, but in Gnome:  right-click a (e.g. pdf) file -> Preferences -> Open with.
    All Applications listed there will be available from the right click menu, the marked one will be used on double-click.
    errgrh...

    I guess what I am trying to propose is this: "de-prioritize" GIMP in its .dekstop file for the types you dont want it to be associated with, and manually add it back in through "Open With" for the file types you want it to be an option. Not sure if this is solving anything for you though

  • XDG standards updated re MIME-type associations + default applications

    In April the XDG standards regarding Association between MIME types and applications was updated, and the changes are quite significant. For example, to specify default applications you should now list them in the [Default Applications] section of a mimeapps.list; placing them in the [Added Associations] section is no longer sufficient. Also, mimeapps.list files may now also be located in the $HOME/config ($XDG_CONFIG_HOME) and /etc/xdg ($XDG_CONFIG_DIRS) directories. The file defaults.list is confirmed as deprecated, as well as a mimeapps.list file in $HOME/.local/share/applications ($XDG_DATA_HOME/applications).
    Just to muddy the waters further, there are $desktop-mimeapps.list ($desktop is the desktop environment: kde, gnome, etc) which may accompany mimeapps.list files on all the paths!
    I'm implementing these new standards in my ayr launcher, but no doubt there will be many applications which will lag behind these new standards. The biggest immediate problem will probably be with file managers which often write the default associations they create to the [Added Associations] section in $HOME/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list.
    This will not be much fun, but if it's standardising better, then so be it!
    Edit: There is a worked example, but there seems to be a mistake in this - $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS  should come before $XDG_DATA_HOME according to the standard.
    Also, the Default applications page on the Wiki is going to need a substantial revamp.
    Edit2: Overview of main changes

    Have now updated the Wiki section on:

  • How to set Mime Type for Static Files

    Hi All,
    I am working on Apex 3.2.1.00.10.
    When I am trying to upload (create) a ".js" file into Static Files under Shared Components of an application; it is saving as "*text/plain*" for Mime Type. But I need Mime type to be set as "*application/x-javascript*".
    Please help me to change the Mime type of .js file.
    Or is there any way to upload the file directly as "*application/x-javascript*" as its Mime Type.
    Thanks in advance.
    Umesh

    In IIS v4 which comes with the Windows NT4 option pack, you right click the web page you are working with, select properties, then go to the HTTP Headers tab. At the bottom there's a button labelled File Types in the MIME Map section.
    After you've clicked that, you can add the two mime types you need;
    Associated Extension MIME Type
    .jar application/x-java-jar-file
    .jnlp application/x-java-jnlp-file
    I'm assuming that it is the same in W2k/IIS5.

  • Mime type for xml

    i am writing a code in jsp which should download a xml file in client machine. now the problem is while loading it is showing to store the .jsp file to be stored which is storing it in xml format , but the alert message shown is showning to save as storexml.jsp which is a jsp extension. i want it to show as a xml extension
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.xml");
    filename="xyz.xml";
    try{
    int i;
    FileInputStream f=new FileInputStream(filename);
    while((i = f.read()) != -1){
         out.write((char)i);
    }catch(Exception e){
         Log.debug("can not write file in viewxml.jsp,exception :"+e);
         System.out.println("can not write");
    i think the mime type should be something to deal with. could anyone tell me the correct one which will store it showing a .xml format by default.

    but usually in some sites i have seen to upload files which gives a setting , if i dont have a text editor tehn i get the file window to save as document type but i if i have a editor then it should give to save as xml by default.
    even that itried with storing as xls file which works fine there mime type is 'application/vnd-excel'
    but it should work same as well in xml instead of it showing jsp document

  • How to get the mime type of the workflow attachment attached to workitem id

    Hi Experts,
    I can attach different types of attachment to the workitem id, lets suppost the attachment type attached is pdf, for this attachment I have an requirement to send the mime type as well. In this case the mime type is 'application/pdf' for pdf files.(for text file it is 'text/plain' and for zip file it is 'application/zip' and so on)
    Do I have any place in ABAP world where I can get the mime type for different types of attachments.
    I dont want to hard code the mime types, and I have checked the transaction 'SMW0', but not sure if this is the correct place to get the mime type.
    Do you see any other way or tables which stores all these mime types.
    Any help/suggestion would be appreciated.

  • Identifying the correct MIME type for file uploads

    How does Apex identify the MIME type of an uploaded file? I have a page that uploads a file and accesses it via APEX_APPLICATION_FILES. That works fine. The problem is that, for certain file types, the mime_types column is "application/octet-stream" instead of the correct file type. I think it's using the Content-Type from the client browser, though I'm not quite sure. Is there any way to override this server-side in Apex?
    I'm running Apex with mod_plsql. Adding an AddType directive to Apache and adding the correct association to the mime.types file did not work.

    Hi,
    I also noticed this - it seems that Microsoft's 4 char extensions like .docx are not being recognized by application type so that either the web server or mod-plsql is defaulting to the "application/octet-stream" mime type which refers to a file with binary content - instead of the traditional "application/msword" mime type you would expect.
    If you know, at the point of insert into your database table, both the mime type and file name, one workaround would be to check if the mime type is 'application/octet-stream' and the file's extension is ".docx" or other likely extensions and then treat it as mime type 'application/msword", etc.
    Not really a solution but might be sufficient workaround depending on your situation.

  • Convergence Firefox Mime types

    I'm trying to download an email attachment from Convergence using FF 3.0.5 on Solaris 10 U4.
    I'm getting the following error:
    /tmp/<File Name> could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.
    I have to save the attachment and open it using nautilus.
    In my testing this applies to doc and odt attachments. I have also noticed the same behavior using FF 3.1b1 and OpenSolaris build 101 and the release of FF in Solaris 10U4.
    I have another webmail application (http://www.horde.org) connecting to the same messaging server. I'm able to open the same email attachment without having to save it before hand. Horde lists the mime type as application/msword although I don't know how to verify that.
    Is there a way of verifying the mime type that convergence is presenting?

    Horde may be getting the MIME type from the MIME part header. For example when I upload an OpenOffice document using Convergence -04 and Firefox 2.0 on Windows XP I get the following attachment MIME header in the email body:
    Content-Type: application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text; charset=UTF-8
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=test.odt
    Is there a way of verifying the mime type that convergence is presenting?Looking at the HTTP headers of the response to the attachment GET from the client (using wireshark), I see that Convergence is specifying the Content-Type: as "application/octet-stream" and in the body of the request response I see the MIME Type application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text information.

  • What is the correct MIME type for an AD RMS protected PFILE?

    Hi,
     The context of why this question is asked is as follows: In an SAP Webdynpro application (the UI is displayed in a web browser). We intercept the file with SAP data that is being downloaded, encrypt it using AD RMS and then send the modified (encrypted)
    file back to be downloaded by the browser into the user's downloads folder.
     Because of this interception and modification of the text file being downloaded (.txt), which is now a .PTXT file (PFILE) there is a conflict in the MIME TYPE.
    So could you let me know what the MIME type for a PFILE would be? Is there a standard MIME Type for all these PFILES? (.ptxt, .pfile etc..)? And is it by any chance "application/octet-stream"?

    Hi,
    I also noticed this - it seems that Microsoft's 4 char extensions like .docx are not being recognized by application type so that either the web server or mod-plsql is defaulting to the "application/octet-stream" mime type which refers to a file with binary content - instead of the traditional "application/msword" mime type you would expect.

  • Safari and MIME type "application/x-mplayer2"

    When trying to listen to web pages conatining mp3 audio files (prior to purchasing them) , Safari comes up with a message saying that MIME type “application/x-mplayer2” is not installed and only downloads the html file and not the mp3 file. When we check on our installed plug-ins in Safari, MIME type “application/x-mplayer2” has been installed.
    How do we fix this? We are using Safari Version 2.0.2 (416.12) OSX 10.4.3. It works on one of our older machines running Safari Version 1.3.1 (v312.3.3) OSX 10.3.9

    Nevermind. I answered my own question. Seek and you shall find. http://www.apple.com/safari/download/plugins.html I just had to DL the WMV plug in. All better.

  • Keep getting error, Plugin not installed MIME PlugIn application/x-mplayer2

    many wb pages are not accessable, i keep getting this error messge?
    The page “Coastalwatch :: surfcams :: surf reports :: swell forecasts :: news” has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.
    Wher do i get this plug-in from? Or is it as simple as changing a setting on the system?

    Hi Percy and welcome to the forums!
    Wher do i get this plug-in from? Or is it as simple as changing a setting on the system?
    Probably a bit of both. Try this:
    These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
    Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
    Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
    In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
    In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    Now repair permissions and restart.
    The world should now be your oyster!
    You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
